    I have this and am an alcoholic... I have had panic attack after panic attack all day today from being hungover and I chugged a half pint of vodka to make it just go away and I still have anxiety. I need to just stop this completely. I keep thinking I'm dying. I'm in a constant state of complete dread. I just want to feel normal again. Ty for this video.

    Just stopped drinking 3 days ago. I realized a few years ago that it caused major anxiety and panic attacks. Im done for good now. Got back in the gym the last two days and will continue. My anxiety has subsided drastically and have no issue socializing sober now. Im sure ill feel even better as the time passes. I was a 12-15 beers a night a couple times a week. Hang in there and keep yourself busy with other things. I would drink when i was bored and played video games. I focus on exercising, reading and working on my blog to keep my mind occupied.

  • @VelcroKittie

    Alcohol can be such a curse. I started getting anxiety hangovers around about 27 years of age. I will normally get them after the second day if I've been drinking on say....a Friday and Saturday. I get what I call air hunger where it feels like I can't get enough air into my lungs but it's totally linked to anxiety. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I would take being nauseous and having a head ache any day of the week over the anxiety hangover. I call it "The Fear". It's horrendous.
    I just start feeling such an unbelievable failure, everything is magnified and seems worse than it is. Physically I get short of breath, my motor skills are all over the place and the craziest of thoughts float around my mind. Alcohol has also affected my employment over the years. I tend to start doing really well but then I suddenly out of nowhere hit self destruct and end up going on it for 4 - 5 days in a row. Then I will be good again for a month (only drinking on weekends) but then it will happen again.
    I'm getting quite sick and tired of this cycle. I quit last year for about 5 months but I got so unbelievably bored I ended up going back on it again. My issue is that I don't drink during the week and I am feeling amazing come Friday night. I end up finding it near impossible not to go out or do something involving alcohol. Then it all starts over again. I will drink Saturday and feel the anxiety on the Sunday. Sometimes because I am feeling like crap Sunday I will give in and drink but that just gets my working week off to a terrible start because I am hanging on Monday! Ugggghhh so frustrating

    • @TreyJones
      @TreyJones  6 лет назад +2

    Btw for anyone wondering why this is the case, panic attacks and anxiety are tied to GABA receptors
    Alcohol and Xanax and other similar drugs (even the good sleeping pills like lunesta) all affect GABA receptors in your brain which is why you feel chill and relaxed
    Alcohol in particular causes an ‘acute withdrawal’ the next day - so you get the opposite of the calm and relaxed fun feeling while you’re drinking - in most people it’s not a huge deal because they don’t have major issues with this , but if you’re already dealing with panic attacks and anxiety it will flare those problems up

    I couldn´t agree with this video more!!! It is 100% spot on and has been the story of my life for the last two years. My panic attacks are often what I would call borderline panic attacks (sweats and shortness of breath and a feeling of pressure in my head). I have really only had two full on panic attacks, and both times I almost called the ambulance. My panic disorder has ALWAYS coincided with alcohol consumption. I would add one thing though. You had mentioned dehydration and just generally feeling like crap both physically and spiritually (lowered self-esteem and guilt) as being the reasons for the panic attacks that happen after a night of drinking. I personally believe it also has to do with blood sugar levels. When you drink a lot of alcohol, you seriously mess with your blood sugar, and the next day have lower blood sugar than normal as your body tries to rebalance from too much sugar consumption in the form of alcohol the night before. I am not sure this is true, and I am no doctor, but I do listen to my body. The best option is, as you said, to plain flat out quit drinking. However, if you fail at this and are in the morning after situation you described, lots of water and lots of fruit help to restabilize blood sugar and body hydration in a natural way, and this always helps me feel better. I am not talking about cane sugar, but rather fruit sugar. Cane sugar will make you worse. Also, it is now happening that I am not only prone to panic attacks the day after I drink but also even while I am drinking. Last night, I had two glasses of wine before an exam and when I walked into the classroom, I almost fell into a panic attack during the exam. I have to stop drinking - I am getting too old for this shit. I was sober for five years and, even though I no longer drink like I did before, which was suicidal, I have come to realize that any alcohol at my age and with my panic attacks is too much. Oh well, today is a new day. Time to start over again.

    • @michaelseidenzahl1136
      @michaelseidenzahl1136 6 лет назад +1

      Ted Kirk how old are you? I'm 29 n I'll admit I drink more then I need too but I can agree that fruit sugar does help but I'm not saying that's a reason to keep drinking it really does shit too ur body n is a cause for these attacks. I just had my first attack last night at work n had to go to the ER cause I couldn't stop shaking...n I couldn't stand...shit really messed me up is I lost out on a 12 hour shift not to mention mostly all my co workers seen me stagger kick my I had a co-worker who helped me get to the medical room where I finally lost all body function n started shaking badly, couldn't stand, sweating, breathing heavy, vision was blurry, Body was clincing. Shit was last night so sorry it's still a fresh experience scary as hell too.

    Ended up in the er Christmas Day. Realized while laying in the bed thinking I was dying that I need to stop dipping and drinking. I went all week with nothing. Watching football today I grabbed a tin and started laying back beers. Went to be 2.5 hours ago and here I am again. Heart racing and thinking this is the end AGAIN. Did all my tricks took a shower. Counted things. Had my wife scratch my back for a while and I’ve only calmed down slightly. I can’t do this anymore. I hate this feeling. Heart racing. Stomach flipping. This is nuts that we do this to ourselves.

    • @BradleyCoopertest

      Couldn't agree with you more. So crazy that we know we are going to have a racing heart and a full blown panic attack. Yet, when you go out, it doesn't stop you from drinking. But during the panic, you say to yourself you never drink again if you make it through. Alcohol is so addictive and if the people around you drink, it's very hard to stop.

    • @zapsurf1343
      @zapsurf1343 Год назад

      @@BradleyCoopertest it absolutely can be done. I’m over 15 months now sober and tobacco free. My entire life has changed. I sleep like a normal person. I’m tired when I should be. I’m awake when I should be. I will never have a drink or chew tobacco again. So many people say that they envy my self control when it was my total lack of self control that got me here in the first place. I have no self control. Self control is enjoying one drink a day. I’m not that guy and I know that now. I’m one beer away from 3 30 packs a week. I’m one dip away from two cans a day. You can do it you just have to find the switch and flip it.

    • @BradleyCoopertest
      @BradleyCoopertest Год назад

      @@zapsurf1343 Thanks for your reply, very happy to read you turned your life around. Congrats on the 15 month sobriety. I am the same as you. I see certain people enjoying one drink, then just skip to water or ice tea. I am not that guy. I can go days without a drink, but when I have one beer, I won't have any non alcoholic beverages for the rest of the day. I just go in full binge mode. With horrible anxiety afterwards. I was the same with gambling. My friends would lose 50 euro's and have a wonderful day at the casino. I had swings were I was up 16k and left the casino like a zombie, with 25k in the hole. So crazy. I put myself on a black list, so I can't enter casino's anymore. One problem solved. But the drinking is the hard part. I had a horrible depression after losing my house and my mom breaking all ties with me. During that depression, my ex took my kids away from me when I was in recovery in a psychiatric clinic. And that pain and me missing my kids so much it physically hurts, had me start drinking again after 8 years or so. I know that it's not the solution to get them back, but numbing the pain sometimes seems the only thing I can do to not completely lose my mind. Wish you all the best for the future. Grtz from Belgium.

    • @zapsurf1343
      @zapsurf1343 Год назад

      @@BradleyCoopertest I still have anxiety and panic issues. They're much more controllable now without the alcohol and nicotine roller coaster but they're still there. Not too long ago one of my favorite songs by the Idles came on and my son skipped it and said I don't like that song it reminds me of you being passed out on the dining room table. That cut real deep. I know I'm an addict and that its a part of me. Just as much as anything else about me. You can stop drinking but you cant stop the addiction. Still when I see a bottle of my favorite whiskey my mouth waters. When I see a can of my preferred dip (Kodiak Wintergreen) I get this strange warm feeling. One thing that I still battle is that some people treat this like its a temporary change. Even my wife trivializes it sometimes because she just doesn't understand addiction. I don't think people truly understand how driven I am to prove them wrong.

    I occasionally drink, like once in a year! Recently I had 4 pegs and when I felt like to pee, I was scared to go to the toilet, I felt as it will trap me inside and I'ma be this drowsy forever; also the toilet rooms seemed getting deeper and darker! I freaked out, breathlessness, confusion, scared, I was repeating my sentence, heart racing, all of it altogether! I'm already dealing with depression and anxiety!
    I'm little insomniac who sometimes gets series of sleep paralysis!

    True shit ! Here is my story. I'm 32 male. I've always drank in moderation but never had a huge problem. Covid hits, and it freaked me out so I found alcohol to help and I would drink and currently still drink every single day. Whiskey shots, beer, white claw whatever you name it. Therefore once I started having panic attacks I thought it was covid but no its how I was coping from covid. Yesterday I had a panic attack while driving mid day not a single thing as a trigger it just came from nowhere so what do I do I buy a bottle of whiskey and drink a whole fifth and felt good obviously I was drunk no more panic attack. Today I woke up with horrible hang over and boom even stuck and a 10x worse panic attack. So bad that they feel like you need to run for the ER or you're going to die. It's the alcohol doing this and now I'm trying to figure out how to stop this shit and quit drinking because now when I stop drinking in the evening I'm all jittery. This shit is horrible. Just a long story short don't pick up alcohol to cope with anything its so hard to break this cycle. Love yall stay strong

    I suddenly started having panic attacks after a line of cocaine. Had a full blown panic attack right then and there. Thought I had got a bad batch or something or was overdosing so i went to the hospital with a heart rate of 160bpm. They said i was fine and it was just a panic attack and that stimulants mixed with anxiety is not a good combo. I had never really done coke before either so. Now I get panic attacks regularly sometimes daily. Sometimes ill think about the time i did coke and itll send me into a full blown panic attack out of nowhere. Dont know what to do about it, i hate feeling like this

    I've been drinking a 12 pack of beer everyday for about 7 years straight have not missed a day about 2 years ago I started having really bad anxiety and anxiety attacks and now I'm having full-blown panic attacks almost every day and I'm on Klonopin which does help I keep thinking I'm about to have a stroke or I'm about to die it's always think about when's the next time it's going to happen I'm convinced it's got to be the alcohol and it's so goddamn hard to stop drinking when you've been doing it everyday for 7 years straight if not longer! I'm sick of this I can't deal with it anymore I just want to be normal I don't have hangovers I just have very little energy and then as soon as I start drinking I get a little bit of energy but by the third or fourth beer I'm even more tired then when I started it's bullshit I'm sick of this I can't do it anymore I don't know what the fuck to do every time I tell myself I'm going to taper off I just can't do it I need that next drink or else I don't feel fulfilled! Alcohol, anxiety, panic attacks it's all the fuckin curse it's all bad!

      Same, instead of focusing on things that are going on around me, I start to focus on my heartrate, which is elevated after drinking. Then the overthinking and scanning my body starts. I get horrible palpitations and sweats, and feel like I am leaving my body or feel that I can't breathe. I am so anxious that I get twitches in my entire body. I don't know why I keep doing this to myself. Wish you all the best.

    I had the biggest breakdown after 4 days of drinking due to the corona situation. I was paralized in fear for 5 days after, couldn't eat, Just taking sedatives to sleep. As soon as I'd wake up I'd get a panic attack. Alcohol is evil and will make panic unbearable. Thank god a friend came over, took me to the shower huged me and gave me some soup and helped me clear my flat as I couldn't even get out of bed to clear all the beer cans. I'm gonna give up, it's either that or I'll probably kill myself after a binge. My heart goes out to you all.

    I got panic disorder after having so much financial issues and getting back into weed at the start of 2020 but after getting on a new med they've been well controlled and stopped for months, but then started drinking a bit at night to get drunk and I'm a lightweight so yeah, you feel great and energized at first but then over time the more of an alcoholic you become like you said you're dehydrated and your nervous system is getting changed from the dopamine and GABA changes, also double so if ur throwing up ur digestive system is inflamed. Anyways, the next day the hangover would just be anxiety and stomach pain. I need to stop. Am I an alcoholic? If I can go these next three days with not a drop I'll prove to myself I can do this shit.

    Hey man I do not know if you’re still active on this channel, but I recently have had a few panic attacks in the past few months based on heavy drinking, when I go a few days drinking all day every day I’m definitely going to have one but it seems when I drink only at night and hydrate and eat before I go to bed I’m not gonna have them, do you think that if I stop now it won’t be too late or do you think if I continue to drink my moderate ways I will not continue to have them, thank you for the video it made me feel like I was not alone.
