  • I recently bought a new fun-gun, the GSG, German sport guns, Stg44. This is a replica of the origian Mp-44, or Stürmgewehr designed by Hugo Schmeisser.
    GSG guns are very fun to shoot, and they have several .22lr replicas of other military guns.
    In this video I will take an overall look of the rifle, how to disassemble and assemble the gun, and just do some plinking on steel
    I'll do a more thorough test on precision in a later video.
    Be sure to watch my other videos on precision and accuracytests.
    In the list below you can see all the .22lr rimfire ammo I'll be testing(plus a few more...).

    I bought one the second I saw it at Big 5, and for $350 it's basically a steal. I love it, because it is surely the nearest I'll ever get to owning a Sturmgewehr, the same rifle I've been admiring (i.e. drooling over) in the history books for the last 50 years. The company, GSG (German sport guns) no longer makes them, but they are still available for now.

      That was a bargain. They cost three times that in Norway. Rumors are that they are being manufactured again. Yesterday a scopemount landed in my mailbox. It will be fun to see if it can make some good groups

      I'm confused here as I recall when they first came out in the early 2000's they first sold for 399.00-499.00. When they last manufactured them they were selling for around 700.00. I was a huge Big 5 buyer for years when they had Century Arms surplus rifles.

    Very good video, Its a great rifle and very close in looks to the original. i have had mine since 2013 it runs well on cci stingers and remington 22s but i have not used any other ammo with it. A very accurate rifle. I have shot the real stg44 as a fellow range guy has one and that was a lot of fun but this 22 is of course cheaper to shoot and available.

      It's a great gun, and I do recommend it for fun and sport. For hunting I'm not so sure. It's not the best gun for mounting scopes, and there are no easy way to fasten a bipod. And you do need an adaptor for a suppressor. Other than that it's great fun! Good luck on your future gunownership! Best regards Gunviking

    Hello Gun Viking I have found the "Gold Standard" for " Reliable" .22 LR Ammo is the CCI "Mini Mag" round nose ammo. If your weapon doesn't function with this "Houston we have a problem"! P.S. did you get the cool retro wood crate some of these came with? Cheers !

      @thegunviking  Год назад +1

      Hi! Thank you for your input. I totally agree that the Mini mag is a very good cartridge. I have used it as my competition ammo. The only problem is the price here in Norway. It is very expensive compared to other ammo. And it`s also hard to find at times. I`m sorry to say that the rifle arrived in a cardboard box😒. The good news is that I will be making a video with the real thing as soon as the rifle range opens after winter. I`m really looking forward to that. I have shot the real thing before, and it` FUN! Nice looking version of the STG-44. I wish the buttstock was not so flat - it looks like it came from a child's Red Ryder BB gun. I wonder if there are better aftermarket stocks.

    Cool looking rifle. I would love to shoot an original but here in the UK it's impossible. I have a Smith & Wesson 15-22 and it loves CCI AR tactical but, as with most .22LR semi autos, does not like waxy standard velocity ammo.

      No, it has worked perfectly. A friend of mine also have a Stg44, and it also works fine. The only thing is the magazine don`t like lubed bullets, especially in the winther. But that is a problem with most hi cap .22 mags. Glad to heat that GSG did fix it in the end.

    Not trying to toss shade as I finally got one myself, I love the .22's in all configurations but even more so when they are historic. That being said the way you hold the rifle is incorrect, a real Stg44 shot a 7.92x35 that was capable of being full automatic, you don't hold it by the barrel or shroud but at the base where the mag well is. Why the soviets redesigned it adding a wooden forearm to the front so it could be handled like a normal rifle, touching anything beyond the receiver would burn your hands if it was in anyway sustained fire.
    I do love the breakdown though, thank you.

    • @thegunviking
      @thegunviking  Год назад +2

      Yes, you are correct. If it was «the real deal» I wouldn`t hold it by the forend, at least not ifI shot it full auto. When I shot the original there was a limited supply of ammo, so we didn`t shoot it enough that it became a problem. But as this is a .22, the danger of burns are a risk I`m willing to take😉
