BEST hunting subsonic ammo? Eley Subsonic 38grs HP, Tikka T1X
Discover the Best Subsonic Ammunition on the Market Today
I firmly believe that this is the best subsonic ammunition available today. During today's test, despite the challenging wind conditions, Eley Subsonic delivered impressive groupings. I used it with my Tikka T1X, paired with a Meopta Optika 6 scope in 5-30x56. The setup also featured a Spuhr mount and a Norwegian-made GRS Berserk stock, perfect for a true Gunviking!
If you’re in search of reliable, high-performance subsonic ammo, I highly recommend grabbing a pack or two and testing this out yourself. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Vintage Remington Target .22lr, does it deserve its name? Bergara B14R
Просмотров 496День назад
In this video, I take a closer look at an older batch of Remington Target .22LR ammunition. Originally rated at around 1150 feet per second, I was surprised to find that it actually clocked in at over 1200 feet per second during my testing. This ammo features a 40-grain round nose bullet with a thin wax coating for lubrication and comes in packs of 100 rounds. I believe this ammo is 30-40 years...
Impossible shots? Super windy 262 yards shooting .22lr
Просмотров 59214 дней назад
In this video, I tested the accuracy of a .22LR at 262 yards in extremely challenging wind conditions. The wind was not only shifting directions but also came in strong gusts, reaching speeds of 34-40 miles per hour. This made it incredibly difficult to predict where the bullet would land. I started by shooting at an 8x8 inch Caldwell steel plate, which turned out to be relatively easy to hit d...
Remington Cyclone .22lr ammo; Wet'n'wild or a dry'n'lame? Tikka T1X at 50 yards

Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel! Today, we're diving into an in-depth review of the Remington Cyclone .22LR ammunition. Remington claims this ammo is both fast and accurate, but is it really as good as they say, or just a load of hype? We're about to find out! I'll be testing the Remington Cyclone in my Tikka T1X, equipped with the Meopta Optika6 riflescope, featuring a powerful 5-30x...
RWS Subsonic HP, the last sound they never heard, Tikka T1X .22lr

In this video, I test the RWS Subsonic HP at 50 yards with my Tikka T1X. The RWS Subsonic HP bullet weighs 40 grains, is a Lead Hollow Point (LHP), and has a muzzle velocity of 1033 fps. For this test, I am using my A-Tec Wave suppressor. The scope is a Meopta Optika 6 with 5-30x56 magnification, providing a clear and precise view of the target. I rely on a Caldwell shooting rest for stability....
Remington Yellow Jacket, does it got the sting? Tikka T1X .22lr

n this video, I'm testing the Remington Yellow Jacket in .22LR caliber. For this test, I'm using my Tikka T1X equipped with a Meopta 5-30x56mm scope. I'll be shooting at a distance of 50 yards. During the test, I observed that the precision degraded the more I shot, and the barrel became very dirty. Although Remington states a velocity of 1500fps, the actual speed I recorded was just over 1400f...

Hey everyone! Today was quite the challenge at the range with those strong winds blowing! It made getting tight groups pretty tricky. For this session, I used my trusty Tikka T1X paired with a Meopta 5-30x56 s...
Remington Thunderbolt, ELR capable? 220 yards shooting

Now it's time to shoot at 220 yards with the Remington Thunderbolt. It has already been tested at 50 yards with surprisingly good results, and at 160 yards on steel with decent results, but now comes the long range test. Will it be able to perform at 220 yards with its poor SD and large velocity variation? Well, there's only one way to find out, and that's to test it. And that's what we're goin...

I just shot Remington Thunderbolt at steel targets from 160 yards, and I was surprised by how well it performed. So, I decided to try another bulk ammo, and this time it was Federal Automatch .22lr. Today, I brought the Remington Thunderbolt .22lr to the range. You know, that round everyone loves to trash and claims is pure garbage. Sure, the velocities were, to put it kindly, all over the place, and the standard deviation was high. But guess what? The groupings were...
Long range shooting Remington Thunderbolt .22lr Tikka T1X LRS

Today, I'm going to take a crack at some steel targets with the Remington Thunderbolt. You’re probably already familiar with this round, and it certainly has a reputation that precedes it. Can it hit s...

Today, I’m excited to test what might be the fastest and most hard-hitting .22lr on the market: the CCI Stinger. Boasting a muzzle velocity of 1640 fps-at least, that's what CCI claims-this round has piqued my curiosity. Unfortunately, my chronograph has retired to the great hunting ground in the sky, so I can't verify the speed myself. We'll have to take CCI's word for it. The word on the stre...

Neat, looks like all last ones are flyiers. What kinda robot chronograph is that? Should do a review on it. Also since you ordering ammo get the Norma Hunter 22 Power lr.
It`s prochrono. It`s the app that has voice calling the velocities. I have never seen the Norma Hunter in Norway, unfortunately.
Have you tried the Norma biathlon match-22??
Hi! No, not yet. I`ll try it when the weather gets colder(unfortunately not long before that happens…).
@@thegunvikingYeah, it will get colder soon. I got 2 boxes for free at the gun store where I live because of a mistake they made. Looking forward to see you test them out. I'm also saving them for colder weather.
It's by far my favorite squirrel hunting ammo. It's very accurate and consistent but I find it much hotter than they advertise. I'm getting 1109 fps in my 16 inch barrel. Might just be my lot.
It might be that lot. Eley does not give a set velocity for their ammo, but rather an interval.

Hi Mr Viking..Did you run into any firing pin issues with the tikka t1x yet?
Hi! No, it has worked like a charm. I have had a few ftf, but that is to be expected. Do you own a T1, and have you had any issues?
I enjoy theese tests, very informative. Good job! 👍
Thank you so much!
Great work Viking 9mm cases at 50 meters excellent accuracy.
I`ll try them at 100 next time.
Excellent work my friend 👏. That was exceptionally consistent, apart from a few. That last card certainly put up a fight. Only the 3rd round missed, every other round hit or touched. A little wind to test things. Yes, Eley need to send you a case of 5000 for thorough external evaluation and promotion. 🤣. I wish you the best with that request.
Yes, I touched the card with almost every round. A very resiliant card😊. I think my channel has to be 10x as big to get a single box, but it`s worth a try, right?
With the Tikka, I've had better results with Tac 22 than with the Eley. Just doesn't seem to like the Eley that much...
I have some Tac-22 that I plan to test in it. I have some footage with the Bergara and the Tac, and that was lets say variable. But since the Tac is RWS made, and the Tikka likes RWS it might be a good match.
Personally I find this ammunition to group the best out of most of my collection! They are deadly for hunting too! Thanks for the video:)
I`m very happy with the Subsonic. I have had bad lots with them too, but usually they work great.
That was fun. It seemed like that ammo liked fun targets more so than paper bullseye targets. How big is that white square you did the foulers with? Is that a 1/2" white square and the black is 1"? Do the paint balls make a permanent mess or does it dry and then wash away with the rain? It was a pretty good day sir. JimE
Hi! The target it 45mm from side to side, and if I remember correct the square is 0,7 inch. Take tht with a grain of salt, since i'm not home and can measure right now. The paintballs wash of in rain, and boy rain is in good supply in Norway these days.
@@thegunviking Thank you. I'm going to give the paint ball thing a try. Please send some rain to East Tennessee, USA. Thanks for the response. Keep shootin'. JimE
@@JimE6243 You can get all the rain you want, my friend👍
Pretty windy to be able to pull off shots like that. Good job!❤❤❤
Not bad at all! I do have a little trouble believing that a subsonic hollow point would get any expansion.
I have seen videos with hp testing, and most of them expand very well. I have bought gel, but have not have time to do any expansion tests my self
@thegunviking I shot some water jugs at 20- 100 with Stingers and was pretty surprised. Caught a few, or at least the jackets 😅 At closer ranges they came apart pretty good!
@@chrislang5659 I tried the same thing, but was surprised with the penetration. I was not able to find neither copper nor lead…
@@thegunviking that's surprising 🤔 I was using the one gallon juice bottles. Harder plastic than milk jugs and water bottles.

Looks like you got a good lot. I have had hit and miss with subsonic ammo no matter who made it. Good shooting by the way.
Thanks! I have tested the two Aguilas, Winchester and Eley subsonic this year. The Eley is by far the best of them(at least this lot).
Cci 970 and 1050 segmented hp

@thegunviking Viking, you can never have too much ammo, especially these days of prices going up and up.
My savage model 24 shoots these well
Its to bad they are a bit pricey. They are roughly 2-3 times more expensive than the CCI Standard(which I always use as a benchmark when it comes to price) where I live.

Umm ... Best?? 😮 I have seen you shoot better with SK and other ammunition??? Is this click bait? 😢 You should have a question mark after "BEST" ! Nothing I own shoots Eley very well. I will never buy Eley ammunition again unless it is the last available ammo on the planet 😂😅
Eley is a bit hit and miss in my rifles. Some perform really well, some not. Questionmark is added;-)
@thegunviking I think that is better and not misleading 😉 I tend to wonder why almost everytime your flier was on your last round 🤔 I would actually like to know if you stopped at 4, loaded one more round so the mag had 2 in it, then see if that round went in the same holes?? If it did, then the mag has a last round feeding issue, I would think? 🤔 Be fun to test anyways. Thanks for sharing!! 👍
@@CountryRimfire It wasn't my interntion to mislead anyone. But in my opinion the Eley is the best sub hp round on the market right now. When it comes to the fliers I think musch of it is me getting excited😄. But it's worth a test. I also have other mags I can use.

I bought it from a british company callee MM sports. They do international shipping. I bought one for both my Tikkas. Than you for the kind words!
Excellent testing procedure! Thanks.
Thank you!
They make em in lead? Ones I been getting are copper ones. Don't forget about your Mark IV too.
I haven`t seen the Target copperplated, at least not here in Norway. Manufacturers brand their ammo different for different markets, something that can be a bit confusing.
Interesting video, thanks.
Thank you!
Just found this channel excellent content just the shots and results not a load of nonsense to listen to Using a 17hmr at the min for small game gonna add a 22lr for closer distances Keep up the good work
Thank you! I`ll do my best!
They are listed as plated, not copper plated. From your picture they look like they have the brass colored plating used on Remington's Golden Bullets. Not sure it is even plating as I've seen some indicate it is a brass colored powder mixed into the regular wax lubricant to give otherwise lead bullets the appearance of being plated. Looking on the Remington website the photo on the box similarly looks like a brass and not copper bullet. Nice reference to Falling Down.
Thanks. There are some manufacturers that copper plate their bullets right, but Remington isn`t one of them.
It works really good in my guns. Can't find it consistently nowadays. I like the ammo MUCH better than price!
RWS is NOT cheap, but it`s well made. I find it hard to find full stock of any manufacturer these days. Usually theres only a few variants at any given time.
It has been terrible for me. I haven't shot any in over 10 years because of my poor experience with it. Now that Remington is not building and selling firearms, maybe they are improving their ammo lines. If ammo is all you make it certainly needs to be good.
Good, or cheap. I think poeople will buy anything if its cheap enough.
I know this was a year ago, but how well did the optic you mounted work out for this?
It worked fine. But I think I`ll just use it with it`s iron sights. I bought it for the looks and style, and optics ruin that. I have other guns for that.
Great video, but the ladies voice on the chronograph has me wanting some fish & chips.
I`d love some fish and chips too😆
I have some of this that is a couple years old. I was doing a Remington comparison video with their new Golden Hunter Improved Performance ammo 😂😅 with their new rimfire technology 😂😅🤣 I shot some of the target, and the rim exploded in the chamber of one of the rounds!! 😮😳☠️ it was insane! That happened to me once. It blew the magazine into several pieces. It was a little scary. No physical inury, thank god. Thanks for sharing
@thegunviking wow! That is crazy. I had no damage to anything, it just smoked like crazy and turned everything black. The smell was horribly foul also. I am very glad it did not blow my magazine into pieces!
I like your testing of the remington target ammo I do not recall ever trying it only gold hollow points and yellow jackets they worked well on small game for me
It was ok for plinking, but they should not be called Target
@@thegunviking thank you for your reply
When I was a kid, that ammo was too expensive. Used winchester hvhp. I really like what you are doing nowadays! Keep up the great work 👍
Thank you! winchester is a little hard to find in scandinavia. The little we get is usually made in Australia.
Remington Target ammo is some of the worst ammo I have tried. Even Winchester Wildcat shot better. I had 3 rifles (Vudoo, Lithgow, Kidd 10/22) and the Remington shot badly in all the them.
I will be testing the Wildcat later. My hopes are not high. You have some great rifles👍
@@thegunviking Thank you
In the 50’s and 60’s Remington and Winchester were making good ammo with Winchester extending that to the 1980’s. Then Federal started making better 22lr ammo. Today no US manufacturer is making anything I would consider much above plinking ammo.
It`s a shame that no US manufacturers can make a decent match cartridge. But you are correct, there is nothing made in the US that will win a major match. I hope this will change, but I`m not optimistic.
Don't know much about Rem. ammo other than the fact that my results aren't quite as good as yours!😅 I have some Win. Super X that's about 20 years old, and it does seem to shoot better!
My experience is the same.Sadly . Still have a Brick of that stuff too
Lucky you, I have two bricks...
Really cool to see how old ammunition is performing
I have some old polish ammo that are really good. SD of 8! I tested them in my old Tikka, maybe I sholud do a retest?
Typical Remington, never really found a truly accurate round from them. They make plinking ammo. It seems their intention was to make lots of ammo as cheaply as possible and let the people deal with it.
Yes, I agree with you. They are plinkingammo, nothing more.
In my experience that Remington target stuff was always pretty poor. But I didn't know it was running those kinds of velocities.
They were in a hurry, thats for sure. Target ammo is usuall much slower than that.
When you test ammo, that's poor for accuracy in the Bergara it would be interesting to see if your Tika is any better with that ammo. Great unique channel, i look forward to each session. 😊
Hi! I might do another test with the Tikka. Maybe it will perform better(albeit I doubt it).
@thegunviking Yes Viking, it's always been ordinary ammo. It would be interesting to see if different ammos are any different in either rifle. 😊😊
Glad to see Remington rimfire has always been bad.
I wish they could make a good target cartridge, but maybe the competition is to hard from the european competitors? Or it isn`t possible on their existing machinery?
@@thegunviking I wish that there was a better explanation, but the truth is that Remington, Winchester and Federal can't be bothered with quality control. Like a lot of US companies in recent years, all they care about is absolute maximum profit. Which is why so much of it is sold in bulk boxes and buckets. They have the machinery and ability to make something better, they just don't want to. More profit to be had in selling buckets of point and blast ammo. Remington and Winchester both went bankrupt as firearm manufacturers as well. They exist in largely a ghost or shell form today, but the ammo portions are still up and running. Both of them used to produce quality firearms. Many well renowned arms, but like so many other US manufacturers the call of maximum profits meant increasingly bad quality and low cost materials. It has also happened to our cars and other industries. They played that game and lost. I totally understand businesses have to make a profit, and want them to be able to make a profit to stay in business, but when you sacrifice quality to maximize profits you run this risk. Winchester and Remington both become purveyors of garbage firearms. The ammo portions of the companies largely followed suit. Especially the rimfire lines. A lot of Winchester centerfire ammo has been recalled in recent years. A lot of the European target and match ammo sells out pretty quickly here, even at a higher price. There is a market here for quality 22lr. They aren't interested in making it. The profit/work ratio is too low to interest them. So bucket o' bullets is what we get.
Never did like Remington´s products. The only exception being their FMJ rifle ammo, which works well in some rifles. Their 22lr has always been crap, like their rifles 😄
The centerfire is certainly better.
Ser ut som at Remington har holdt samme dårlige kvalitet i lr amo siden starten....
Ja, de var nok aldri bra. Det var vel heller det at når jeg var guttunge så var alt som smalt toppers😀
Interesting. I remember when Stingers came out and I thought they were definitely not as accurate as the common Winchester, Remington etc. and I never went back. I do want to try them again now, and with a different rifle.
It`s worth a try. They might perform better for you now.
