What a flash back! I bought a brick of these when I was 15 for $27 AUD in 1981. They were the hot item on the market at the time. Compared to the “Stingers” they had a better kill performance when hunting due to a softer lead and bigger deeper hollow point. I later tried them out, many years later, in my Brno Model 2 , on the range, and got very similar results to you. You’re correct in your statement with longer ranges, their killing performance dropped on long shots. I have a good friend in Bergen and love visiting your country, good people, good gun laws. Keep up the good work 😊
Hello! I have a bit left of an older lot, maybe 20-25 years old, that I am going to test out. For fun, I'll do a test at longer range, maybe 100 yards or so. Yes, Bergen is a beautiful city. It's just a shame it rains so much there :-). If I understand correctly, you're from Australia? That's a long journey from there to Bergen. Thanks for the kind words!

Barrel fouling! UGHLY. I remember once having to stop in the middle of a match and clean the barrel. IIRC, I got a Zero for the stage. Have since gone on to better ammo brands that, strangely enough, also lead to better accuracy. Having fun watching you shoot. Thanks from Minnesota.
An impressive performance, the Yellow Jackets didn't catch on in my area because most folks favored stingers, maybe they made a mistake. Thanks for this video.
They were definitely ugly once you opened the box. I do remember shooting these when I was growing up, and yes I do miss the good ole days. If we could only recall those days now. I very much enjoy the channel. Be blessed my friend.
Liking the videos, subbed! I was in Oslo and Tresil last winter and I hope I get a chance to visit Norway again before long. What are the gun laws like up there? In the UK shotguns and rifles require separate licenses and the latter is quite a lot stricter. Say for instance you want to sell your .22 and buy a new one; the procedure here is that you would sell the gun, go home, send your license (actual paper license, no online system) off to the police, they then “remove” your old gun, print a new license, send it to you, you then take your new license to the shop and only then can you buy your new gun! The process takes about a month (at best) to complete. Madness. Anyway, cheers from England.
Hi! Thanks for subscribing! The gun laws aren`t to bad. Licenses are split between hunting and sport. We can buy 8 hunting guns on the hunting license, and every one must be applied for. The time this takes are horrible, as of today it`s about 40 weeks. But you can apply for all 8 at once, and you get a year to buy them before you have to re apply. If you already are a registered gunowner you can borrow the gun from the store until the license is ok. Sporting guns don`t have a set quota. You can aquire one gun per program you shoot, and a spare if you have enough activity. Hunting guns you can buy from 18(16 if it can be stored by an adult) and handguns from 21. Hope this answer some of your questions.
@@thegunviking Not without its eccentricities but it sounds a lot straighter than our laws here! Anyway, great shooting, looking forward to more videos! Cheers.
The Remington Yellow Jackets were my go-to rabbit ammo back in the 70s & 80s. Dad would have me go buy a box or two before going hunting. I remember they were very expensive. Round nose lead ammo was 50 cents for 50 rounds. The Yellow Jackets were $1.75 box 50. Not very accurate in any of our rifles, but they worked so well on rabbits.
Yes, that is a big price difference. I actually wasn't aware that this was such an old cartridge. I remember it from the 90s, and it was known as the king of killers for small game.
Years ago whenI owned a shoot a LOT of 22's ( guns and ammo) i remember these didn't feed in several of my semi autos (bullet jammed on feed ramp) and so I used them up in a bolt action and never bought them again 😢CCI Stingers feed in all my semi autos, so..
I've not seen these with any regularity since the 80s. Around the same time I used to see the Remington cyclone. I never saw yellowjackets with the same frequency. Speaking of hyper velocity shooting poorly, Federal Punch is some of the most inaccurate 22lr I've ever shot.
This was the stuff when I was a kid. I am sure the quality had fallen tremendously since! Nice video showing the quality and how fast it falls off and 💩 's in your barrel 😅😊
I can assure you that the barrel needed cleaning! But that applies to a lot of Remington's ammunition. So whenever I use their ammo, I always do it as the last test.
Got a box of these about a year ago in Ireland for fun, when I opened the box they were coated in a powdery substance. They were crazy inaccurate in my Ruger 10/22 and really fouled up the action and barrell. They were quite loud also.
Never could get good accuracy from any of my rifles with it. Was ok for close up rabbits but distance is out of the equation. Used to depend on old Winchester super X ammo or the old dyna point.

Hmm... not that bad, much better then I thought. Its not expensive matchammo. Will be interesting to se what it really does in a modern matchpistol. I got some ammo for ou to check my AW92 pistol when you run out of brands for rifletesting ;)

Yes, hyper velocity cartridges often have poor accuracy, you are right about that. I will see if I can get the Winchester, but very little from Winchester is imported into Norway. But I will do my best. PS: The BRNO mod 2 was for a long time Norway's best-selling rimfire rifle, and I have a weakness for them.

I hear that from so many shooters. It makes me wonder if they have been out of production for a while before they were reintroduced. They are listed in their catalog.
I don't think the bullet shape has much impact on the consistency of the velocity. What is more important is that the projectile itself has a consistent weight and, of course, the amount of powder. What is often not considered much is that a small difference in the primer compound can greatly affect the consistency of the velocity. When we are talking about such small amounts as in a .22lr, it doesn't take much variation to create significant differences.
