- We'll be taking a look at the German Sport Guns .22LR clone of the StG-44, the world's first assault rifle. Brought into the U.S. commercial market by American Tactical Imports, these Sturmgewehr 44 look alikes mimic the iconic feel and weight of the originals with this well built rifle. hese GSG made rifles were maintained from roughly 2012 to 2019 and are one of the few successful attempts at recreating this rifle for history buffs to enjoy.

I bought one a couple of years ago, tons of fun! Heads turn when I bring to the range, most people say “what the hell is that?”
Yeah, you do get that reaction for sure. I’ve had the same experience with the MP40 too.
Own one and agree with your comments concerning build quality and detail. Would love to see a version in the original caliber made in Germany by this firm.
Just about every companies that have tried to replicate the Stg 44 in the original caliber has failed.
@@GarandGuy2553 Back when I was 15 I was able to use a authentic one during a WW2 reenactment. That was over 30 years ago and I can still remember everything about that firearm, it was just amazing. Full auto with blanks was hella fun for a teenager HAHAH. I wish I still knew the owner, he also owned a FG42 ( which he used during reenactments ). I would love to own a real MP44. I think when I was 15 you could pick one up for $ 5k? If I only knew the future lol
@@JimmyPtheman I’m surprised you could get them cheap in the early 1990’s? They’re probably close to 100k clams nowadays.
Palmetto State Armory announced during Shot Show 2023 that they are coming out with a recreation of the STG-44 in original 8 mm Kurz, 556, and a couple other calibers this year. Hope that happens.
I saw that! Hopefully it’s a good product.
Best overview on youtube.
Haha I appreciate it!
This is the best video I've seen covering this gun, great job! Just ordered one yesterday, super excited to get it
Thank you! I appreciate the views.
Good review.
Thank you!
Blueline solutions is now importing the STG 44 .22lr. I just purchased one. Blueline is also importing other GSG firearms such as the MP 40 in .22,& the MP 40 9mm pistol. Also the AK 47 .22. GSG used to make the ISSC MK22 for ISSC. Now they are making it with a different stock that Blueline imports. It's called the Mauser 15. In short all GSG firearms have a new importer, and new names starting with Mauser.
Yeah, I read up on the some of the changes. From what I understand now, if it’s in the US and GSG branded then it’s imported through ATI. If its in Canada and branded GSG, then Blue Line is the importer. If its in the US and branded Mauser, then Blue Line is the importer.
So I wasn’t actually aware that the newly imported STG44’s were Mauser branded. Just going online and looking at picture of them, you can see “Mauser” written right above the magazine insert which is interesting.
I do need to order some spare parts so I’m wondering if I should contact ATI or Blueline now.
@@GarandGuy2553 best bet for new parts would probably be Blueline. ATI hasn't had spare parts for a long time. Blueline also brought in the 110 Rd. Drum for the ISSC MK22, " Mauser 15". Never thought it would happen. Remember seeing one at shot show year's ago,but they never ended up in the States.
@@GarandGuy2553 i just received my STG 44 today. On the left side it is marked. Mauser STG44. On the right it reads GSG made in Germany,& it has Blueline Solutions also.
Just bought one. Finding a second Mag is proving tough/ impossible
Yeah, not sure where you’d find one!
Yep, a year later i still cant find one unfortunately
I was lucky to find a bunch at an affordable price back in 2020, I resold most and kept a few extras 😁
Another thing, both my GSG STG 44 .22LR rifles are uncanny accurate.
Great review, and I like the history! Seems like a good clone. Where did you get your sling from?
It just came with the rifle but it’s a standard K98k sling so repros are a dime a dozen
The reason why they misfire or jam, DO NOT use ammo with a wax coating. USE good ammo types and you will be fine.
Sounds good!
@@GarandGuy2553 No problem I covered this gun back about 5 months ago
@@outbackinthewoods4184 added to my watch later and will give it a view tomorrow evening.
I got mine back in 2013 very nice rifle the barrel end piece on mine is threaded so can be removed, i guess in the uk where i am they were different to in the u.s. A great rifle and cheap to shoot and purchase.
They’re certainly a lot of fun! That’s about when I got mine too. Is there anything else different on the UK version? Are you all allowed to have the same sized magazine?
@@GarandGuy2553 Very good informative video by the way. I am actually in Alderney just off Guernsey in the Channel Islands but as for this rifle the rules of ownership are the same as the u.k i believe. I have the 25 and 10 round magazines other than the barrel end treaded cap there are no differences. Its a great rifle looking the same as the original and like i said its so cheap to use. i use the Remington 40 grain ammo and its fine with those in Guernsey was using cci stingers which i prefer but no problems.
@@GarandGuy2553 Unlike parts of the USA, here in the UK there is no limit on magazine capacity. If you can pick it up, you can have it...
@@tacfoley4443 I understand that semi-automatic rimfire is okay in the UK?
@@John-hf1ig in the US here. The muzzle cap is threaded on mine. I'm wondering if the non-removable muzzle cap is something new on more recent manufactured rifles? Mine came in the pine repo box, but I believe they now ship in a cardboard box.
You might want to check as my GSG STG 44 the muzzle nut is removable and Tacticool 22 makes a threaded 1/2X28 adapter that I am running a Silencerco Sparrow on mine. Suppressed it is amazing!
Mine muzzle nut is not removable. Part of the cast part.
My GSG STG 44 muzzle nut is also removable. I wonder if the never guns are modified?
M1 carbine beat everyone to it. M1 carbine just worked and when later it was made full auto the M2 carbine will rock and roll! The M1 carbine put many an enemy in the ground, many an enemy!
The answer to your question is both in my opinion, much like the second Sino Japanese war it blended into WWII as the Space Nazis (empire) while a long time ago in a galaxy far far away were truly the beginnings of WWII with Hoth aggression.
Haha right! I think they did use a lot of German WWII barrels and parts to make prop guns for the early movies. You see a lot of MG42s and of course, Han Solo’s C96.
@@GarandGuy2553 The A280 Blaster Rifle that the rebels used on Hoth is actually an StG44 with a scope, modified stock, and the magazine removed.
@@TexasHellcat1836 That’s cool and also sad at the same time. I think the A280’s in Jedi had AR lowers but it’s hard to tell since they don’t zoom in that much.
@@GarandGuy2553 The ones in Jedi are A280C's, and those were modified AR's. Both lowers and uppers. I'm kind of a Star Wars nerd 😅
@@TexasHellcat1836 awww haha I just looked at Wookiepedia
I wish they’d bring back their MP-40s with some improvements, like maybe make the charging handle and everything more accurate to the real thing and fix some of the workmanship issues they had with the plastic housing. I also wish someone somewhere made a .22lr P38 just as a cheaper alternative to a real one. I gotta say tho this STG looks better than the MP-40s ive seen from them
Oh definitely! Did they stop selling their MP40’s?
@@GarandGuy2553 actually they might, their website looks kinda old so I’m not sure how trustworthy the info on it is but I do still see their stuff at gunshops every now and again so I mightve been wrong.
Apparently, there is a 9 mm version manufactured in Europe, but not for sale to North America
GSG has one for 9mm PAK which are just blanks. I’m fairly certain they’re made as reenactor guns because of Europe’s strong regulations on semi-automatic rifles. Rifles chambered in 9mm PAK can’t chamber rounds with actual projectiles.
PSA coming out with one in 2024 in 7.62x39 5.56 and the 7.92 Kurz
We’ll see when it actually comes out haha
They better hurry, the year is half over. lol
Mine jams continually. Seems to extract poorly.
Yeah, mine has problems extracting certain ammunition.
if i made that gun i would make it in 5.7x28mm or 10mm
Haha go for it!
Mauser offers this now, probably the same gun
Lol I wish Mauser still made these
@@GarandGuy2553 new in box with a mauser name tag on it at a lgs near me
@@HircineDaWolf Yeah, the only STG44’s on the market today are these GSG made .22 copies and very expensive original ones. The Mauser corporation today only makes hunting rifles really. Mauser hasn’t made an Stg44 since 1945 when the allies busted through the factory doors.
@@GarandGuy2553 I didn't think so either they have that and their .22 wannabe scar looking AR as well
@@GarandGuy2553 Mauser made these in their factories under license from GSG which is funny considering they designed the original one. That’s why they come in the box with official Mauser branding all over them. Newer ones even come with a Mauser bumper sticker, as mine did
