CAN I GET AN AUTOGRAPHED SHIRT TO HANG ON MY WALL
I understand that this build will probably be wrapped but I’d like to see you paint again. I always thought those were cool videos. Hope you’re not done painting.
Did I miss the link to your other channel it was supposed to be down below
since sears went the way of the dodo HARBOR FREIGHT has been my GO TO and i have had no complaints.(except not using paper coupons anymore. I'm old and don't like change)
Line-X the camper
I would strongly recommend considering bigger brake lights and turn signals in the rear. Potentially on the big rear panel, look at the rear of a cutaway bus for inspiration if needed.
Can’t hurt to let people know you’re braking more brightly
Yeah might want to add some reflective tape around the perimeter too consider how big it is.
I was going to suggest the same. Specially If the back looks that agreassive, people could get distracted looking at the tires or the construction.....or something. Plus the Bumper doesn't stick out far enough and it is to low, I could se a situation were a truck or bus could not see the breaking ligths. I am pretty sure there are some regulations that tells you how big your break ligths should be for the certain size of the truck.
yeah i worked on trucks and trailers for a long time, and rear lighting and reflectors is a HUGE deal. make yourself visible! i think with a vehicle of that height, DOT might mandate upper corner lights and tri-lights in the upper middle, as well as front upper amber marker lights. easy tho, since the whole thing is steel.
I agree, just get whatever school buses are using, it's clear and it's compliant
@Carlos Celurian Torreblanca they get distracted that's there problem
You should probably add a wind deflector to the roof so those solar panels aren't assaulted by bugs
Not to mention weather elements and aerodynamics. Could save on gas, and also long term durability.
Not to mention rocks from highway. He should have installed them on the flat part of the roof.
the light bar already is a wind deflector- anything that doesn't smack into the lightbar will glide over/under it by air
there is some surface area for impact, but it's already pretty minimal considering it's basically a box truck now. My concern would just be hail- but I don't know if Oregon sees hail like colorado does
@@austinh1028 trees are going to love those solar panels regardless
Update to led bulbs on your headlights!!!
Couple things, Love the build so far! I'm really curious about the added weight of everything at the end. For the solar panels, you'll likely want standoffs to allow them to stay cool so that airflow can go under the panels. Cooling them properly will increase the performance. You can get an mppt solar charge controller that can charge that battery bank too from the solar too. So far it's looking great!!! Camera quality looks good too!
100% agree on the air gap under the panels. Definitely needed for max efficiency 😊
Chris, just from knowing about solar, I sincerely think you'll be wanting as many panels as you can find a way to fit. The thing is, panels almost never get their full output, because sunlight angle and intensity have to be perfect for that to occur. You should instead bet on about half the output most of the time, and that's assuming you've got the panels facing into the sun (so facing South in the northern hemisphere).
For your project, if possible, I'd be shooting for 1000W worth of panels if you can, because you'll probably only see 500W usable most of the time, which is enough to drive a few things (fridge, lighting, battery charger, maybe 1 computer). Or, to charge your battery units.
For example, I have 325W panels on the roof of my house, and could theoretically produce 15.8kW but I almost never see about 13kW even under ideal weather conditions. And that's only for maybe 90 minutes out of the whole day. And that means I produce an average of 36kWh per day, or 3kWh per daylight hour. And that's with 15 times the amount of generation that I'm suggesting you aim for.
I think less than 1000W of panels will functionally do so little that you'll really not be using them, and will rely on the generators exclusively.
Cool build. With the solar panels on the front face of the camper, they might be hit by any trees your off roader might bashed through. Consider installing rub rails on the sides of the panels to protect them..
Hey Chris, I am glad you are taking the time to improve your equipment and to ask feedback about your new camera, the quality is good, I see blocking with quick movements which might come from the video encoding parameters in your editing software (bitrate perhaps), I hear audio clipping (saturating, too loud) from your microphone, and at this point it would be worth transitioning to 4k as most new TV can take advantage of it and you see a lot more details of the pieces you are fabricating. You are going in the right direction, keep tuning Chris!
Hmm I would say many people are using new Iphone as their camera setup and it's giving much better quality and stabilization don't you think? and it also produces 4K videos.
@Mian G keep in mind that he already said he purchased a new camera and it's supposed to be one of the best on the market, so he possibly is one setting away from 4k.
Ready to see the boat build come back..👍👍
Commenting to feed the algorithm, Ill be back once this build is over! Cheers!
Lol
Good idea
@7.19 I really enjoyed the way you could see time passing with the shadows moving in the top left of the frame. Great video guys
Hey Chris, your pod lights are floods, they’ll give you lots of light a short distance in front of the truck, you’ll want to change them to spot or driving lights for something that’s actually useful
...not to mention issues with blinding oncoming traffic as well :)
Exactly and then put the floods on the back for reverse lighting.
@@noobFab Came here to say this
@@noobFabyep, no cutoff line whatsoever
I was thinking just some Amazon projectors and you could run them all the time.. flood lights there was definitely a rookie move.
mount your enerators in pull out trays install some long lockale storage raws and also put your batteries on a pull out tray to be easyer to check and swap out if needed. you also need 360 arwnings one at the rear to cover your generators and one on each side
I came here to comment that I am imagining some sort of pull out tray for the generators too - great minds think alike.
i'd be trying to find a way to build a battery box under the floor, between the frame rails.
@@myopinion69420 and maybe a fuel cell to hold extra for the gennys, gravity feed into a gas can for easy refueling
@@ghomerhust I was even going to suggest one of the Tesla batteries, but an extra ~500+kg (1100lbs) is probably to much. maybe a battery from a Nissan Leaf or something.
@@myopinion69420
2003, for our ExpeditionVehicle, we mounted our bank between the frame-rails over the rear axle.
.
We prefer our mass between the axles, instead of hanging out to be banged... and increasing centrifugal forces during turns and rough roads.
Good to see this build back again, it's getting more interesting as it progresses.
My critique: I love your content bro. Been following for many years. Keep doing it and most importantly stay healthy and positive. You are a great person.
I find your narration great to listen to. It's both informative but also entertaining.
Camera is better than before. Dont know if you purposely have the background out of focus but other than that, quality is WAY better!! Thx for the content!!
You should dynamat the entire interior while you have the access
especially the front panels that take most of the wind. but dynamat would be really pricey to do much of this thing though. basically need to spray foam it lol
@Curley,
2003, for our ExpeditionVehicle, we insulated with:
* adhesive-back acoustic against the outside wall, a gap, then
* one-inch pink-board, another air-gap, then
* two-inch foil-side poly.
Very quiet inside for afternoon naps, nobody outside can eavesdrop on our afternoon activities.
Hello Chris ! For the video quality, you should invest in a stabilizer like a entry Ronin for your dslr, it just make filming yourself and moving shots very smooth ! Hope it helps
I was gonna say the same. Needs a stabilizer for when he's walking around.
Vid quality looks good till you move then it's very jerky.
Those bumper lights will do a great job blinding other drivers on the road, good work!
That little mig welder kicks ass! It spits a bit, but I used it on my EG Hatch build on my channel. Works well! Pro Tip: Use Lincoln Flux Core Wire.
Hey, not sure what you guys were planning there but I heard you talk about gaming rigs, just consider using gaming laptops, if you hadn't! Sure you won't have as much power but you're way more flexible, less power draw, weight and more efficiency and as the rig is probably not in use all the time, you can take the laptops out and use them in other locations way more easily! You could even go with e-GPUs for extra power, if you need it! Thanks for the great content, can't wait for the next videos ❤
We need more of the truck build! Been a while since the last video. Missing it. Want some more!
You guys should definitely do a Big 5 Upgrade on that truck with all of the accessories you are adding. I love this build! I'd love to do something similar myself.
Make sure to run a transfer switch for the generator and inverter/shore power. Never want them on all at the time. Maybe have an electrician help with the on board AC distribution setup.
Great build. Please put the batteries under the car in the middle to balance all the load. It will increase the stability. Keep on trucking 🚚 us 🇺🇲 🇩🇰
That little welder is a beast, I have one in my service truck for farm repairs when stuff breaks out in a field
i haven't watched every episode of this build, but if you guys didn't do it already i would recommend upgrading the breaks to handle the additional weight that you added.
a lot of people overlook breaks when it comes to adding weight/power i just want you guys to be safe
@elc,
EarthRoamer frames break near the rear axle.
EarthRoamer engineered a weld-on reinforcement work-around for the breaks.
One Idea For the truck! Would you all make the storage as pull out drawers? Then you can just pull the generators out in their own little compartments. Easy access to everything for the future?
If not mentioned already those inverters have a propane kit you can buy! It's pretty cool to be able to switch between gas and propane.
Black will look cool, but it could be pretty hot during the summer. Like a giant oven.
Never forget, the reason we watch is for the actual authenticity of real life builds. Camera quality doesn’t matter. You guys are great.👍
Camera quality was great! And it does matter. Especially when you add RUclipsr as your profession. Every pixel counts and adds to the enjoyment.
New character unlocked.... I'm glad to see you getting more help in the shop
I hope you have considered ventilation for your battery banks and generators, I love this series
Might wanna add a retractable awning on both sides just so you can work on things in the shade when your out in the wild
You should collab with Will Prowse on the battery bank, inverter, charge controller, solar panel system
I noticed the old camera looking terrible on my TV when I watched the videos. This new setup looks incredible though!!
The new camera is crushing it I agree it was time for an upgrade super excited about this build as well
The camera quality is good, great build. Been watching you for years.
It seems there is a spot on the lens or sensor starting around 3:50 towards the middle and bottom
Yay, good content here for the B is for Boat!
re -- frame flex
Some off-road rigs use a three-point spring mount for the quarters.
This allows the vehicle to twist under the box, without breaking seams... leading to leaks.
Drink every time Chris says
“We build this out of steel”
This is a good game
Hmmm yess a big black steel box painted black to chill in the sun. Maybe sum vents?
Never had an issue with video quality. Love the content quality! How about a streamlined Tesla dish for internet?
Id add toolboxes under the camper behind and in front of the rear tires. And add a shore power plug so if your parked somewhere with power you can use it.
15:19
I would like to see expanded steel (similar to stout window-screen) welded on the outside of your swing-outs.
This protects your rear wall from perforating branches while backing.
.
And that yuge rear window seems vulnerable to branches, as well.
i think the camera looks great. its very steady shot when moving around and lighting seems good too me
I didn't realize Harbor freight had that kind of cool stuff. I'll go there soon!
Great build! It's a project many people would have access/means to build themselves. Also, We've been using the HF generator for the past 4-5 years camping, and to run the furnace/fridge/internet in the event of a power outage. No complaints. Quiet, easy to start and pretty easy on fuel, even running the AC in our camper.
HI, Chris! Nice buildings as always. One sugestion: Do you thinking about installing a solar roof in the truck? Why don´t you cut the structure of the Tesla Model 3 around the roof and weld to the roof of the camper? That way you´re going to have a nice kind of bubble solar roof and much more light to the interior of the camper. Anyway, keep the good work! Peace!
Probably the glass roof is too round to fit that flat roof
The camera quality is honestly so good
I have that welder and have to say that I love it! It’s done everything I want it to do. I’m not a welder by any means, but it seems to do good for me. Also if you’re asking for critiques, the video looks great, the audio seems off to me. I don’t know if it’s too much compression or what, it just always sounds echoey. I know you’re in a big garage, but this just seems a little too much. I love what y’all are doing! Can’t wait to see the Tesla and this truck at the end.
My brother has that small flux welder. I liked it so much i decided to buy a tig, mig, stick, flux welder from harbor freight after my buddies Lincoln welder died at the shop. Iv had it for a few months now and love using it 10 times more than the old Lincoln welders we have here at the shop.
I recommend a white roof, it will reflect more sun so that it doesn't heat soak and get overly hot, the solar panels will benefit as well because as they get hotter they can lose efficiency, so the white roof will keep some of that heat down.
seems like Whitesnake's "Slide It In" would be an appropriate soundtrack ;)
The camera is so much better its just needs some settings done and it'll be amazing, definitely a step in the right direction!
Yes finally some camper videos 😊
Im stoked for some custom gaming pc action. Maybe some hot air venting to outside or even exterior radiators??
I hope you'll make a separate box for the generators and sound proof it very good!!
I have found that adding yellow lights to the front help me see better close in with factory led lights. Also, I have the 125 flux welder. Use the Lincoln MP flux wire from Home Depot. A LOT less splatter than the HF wire.
You guys should build a skirt piece that makes the rear bumper tie into the side of the camper body more. If you weren’t planning on doing that already
Run an exhaust pipe to the generators towards the outside of the rig
What an absolute unit. With the current state of the world and the economy he is going full prepper mode lol it's awesome
Go Harbor freight!!
Excited since they opened store near me!
I never noticed the camera quality before but I can say now that it looks crisp 👌
Quality noticeably better! 1440 or 4k would be sweet though. Anyone watching on a TV would appreciate it.
3:35 some parts of this video look a bit dark but the one big thing for quality you can do is film and upload in 4k. RUclips has a strong compression algo and 1080p video looks a lot worse than it should, so much so that using 4k on a 1080p display is noticeably better. Slowmo guys talk about this problem all the time feel free to test it out yourself. Especially for bits like this where you're talking to the camera, the image pretty fuzzy and soft when in reality.
Can't wait to see the rest of the build, looking good so far,NEVER seen one build like that.👍👍👍😃😃😎
Man first uneven off road bump is gonna destroy all that frame work when the frame twists
Don’t say “ you suck”. Lmfao. Ok. You don’t suck. Lol. Love you guys. Thanks for the awesome content
Flood the set with "Fill light", shoot @ 24fps, and you'll get the docu-follow look you're chasing. (Source: I'm a producer in the reality / docu-reality vein)
I was wondering about the boat...
Thanks for the update.
One of my top ranking favorite builds
Depending on the amount of off roading and locations that you are looking to get to, you may want to look into lockers for the axles.
You need to start uploading in 4K. Almost all the other big channels are in 4K and it’s a game changer 🎥
I think a brush guard would help a lot with the “underbite” plus it would make it look way better imho.
I think the only problem with the videography is lighting. I’m not a professional though.
It might be worth it to add two high output alternators to help with the electrical load. Charging the system while driving meaning you'll always be near 100% whenever you stop
On our Cummins 8.3, I swapped the small-house 160a intermittent-duty for a big-house 220a continuous duty.
A brush guard would have been a good solution to the under bite and would have matched the look of an overlander. Just a thought, looks good this way too. Great job!
You should probably rethink the rear hatch so that it opens upwards (with support from gas struts) instead. This way it would give good protection from rain if you need to get to the electrics when it’s pouring down.
You can probably still fit a workbench that can slide out from underneath the stack.
Love the project, just wanted to say that 😊 The finish camper is gonna be amazing i bet!!
Glad you are back, working on the camper truck! I tuned out during the Tesla videos.
Tesla videos too slow, need faster progress lol
Don't forget the ID lights on the back end (group of 3 red lights). Some State Patrol or DOT agent having a bad day would love to give you a ticket for that.
It's a good thing you're building a camper. At least when you go to Sema you don't have to worry about staying at a cheap hotel now.
My first thought was that the metal camper exterior needs to be coated with 'ceramic' paint to protect from the suns heat, if not, you are building the worlds largest Easy Bake Oven. Plus, I hope I misheard you say that everything was going to be black when it is finished. If that is true, no reasonable amount of AC or insulation is going to make it comfortable for use between March 15th and October 31st each year. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
Here for all the content; that being said, I am eagerly awaiting more floating content!
Maybe upgrade the truck batterys and the alternator the winches use a lot of energy great build
Fun thing with solar panels for me lately, we found a 300 watt panel and bought it for precisely 3 dollars. It only needs some clear epoxy repair to the shattered glass top but otherwise it still puts out its full 48 volts under direct sunlight. Basically, including the 10 bucks of epoxy and 10 more bucks in hardware to facilitate the repair, we saved like 90% or more on the price! It pays to be able to check if the solar cells are intact on a damaged panel, that way you get buy one for super cheap, cheaply repair it and have a panel only slightly less efficient for far less money despite the time investment and use of floor space to fix it.
I think you Can save some space, by using the Space besides the wheel wells (like semi truck gas reservoir) to store something (equipments , power box, water reservoir...)
You have the best channel on the tube!
Paint it orange for high visibility in the woods. Maybe some reflector tape. You never know it might come in handy.
a good prank would be to point the lightbar into chis's window when he is sleeping.
I love the badlands winch. I've used mine alot on my jeep and it's awesome. I am not easy on it either and it has not ever shut off for a cool down. It's pretty badass.
This build is dope! Can’t wait to see the finished product. Also, I like how right after you gave the spiel on being self conscious about your new camera, there was a smudge in the bottom middle for about 2 minutes 🤣.
Fantastic truck build!! Would you ever build a trailer? Every truck needs one. Even a over landing truck need an adventure one for all the toys!
Just got a bush bar That would work for that Underbite
You should get a camera/rear view mirror ! Would be great for towing and safety obviously.
Upload in 4K - makes a HUGE difference even for people watching on non 4k devices
ThE Beast Cummins is coming along 👍👍💪🏻💪🏻
2 suggestions: 1. build dedicated First Aid storage compartments into both the Tool Area, cab of the truck & the living area. Quicker to get to the better in all areas. 2. Get a portable defibrillator. I dare say you guys are going to be asked to do some off-road rescues & recoveries like Mike Patey does with a rig like that. Best to be fully prepared.
I don't know much about us street regulations but some parts of the world require to put indicator lights on the back of the trucks. Especially when it's above 3 feet in heights. To put an example like the boats. You have port and starboard indicator lights. I'm sure in certain part of the world requires is just to indicate the car behind that the trucks is big and tall. Especially at night time on freeway.
