My first years of watching football were the early 2010s when Peterson would put the team on our back. And of course being a young Vikings fan who only watched Vikings games, I thought that every team ran the ball all the time. Then I'd boot up Madden 11, play as the Vikings with 98 ovr Adrian Peterson, run HB dive the entire game and blow the Packers out by 60, rinse and repeat. Looking back at these years really shows how impressive the guy was. Peterson is the only guy in the modern era who could put the whole team on his back and lead them to success. and yes, other running backs have been superstars on their team but without Peterson, most of these Vikings teams were gonna be going 3-13 without him. Yet managed to sneak us into the wildcard. There won't be a story like this ever again

This is perhaps one of my favorite youtube videos of all time. To see a man run with such determination, purpose and violence at the highest level is the antithesis of how football was supposed to be played. People will forget that he was the benchmark for ACL&MCL recoveries; before AP no one came back that quickly and was that effective EVER. Todays surgery, technology and roadmap to recovery has cleared the path for current players. Football has morphed into an arena-like game due to the suppression of physicality from excessive penalties. My hope is that someone else like All Day comes along and wrecks the nickel package and cover 2.

@Alexander Jones a lot of people were shocked when he hit 2k off a torn ACL and MCL in week 16 the year prior, and the running game in the NFL isn't what it used to be.
I don't think he will, he has slowed down a good bit, but he still has the vision and elusiveness to be top 10.

I remember watching the Packers game at the end of the year and being in complete awe. They had ZERO offense outside of AD. 8-9 guys in the box. The Packers knew the offense was that bad. And AD just ripped them apart. He's the only guy I can remember watching who was a one-man offense. Barry Sanders was incredible, probably the best, but I never remember watching a guy in the modern age who was literally a one man offense at RB. Defenses could have put the entire team in the box and AD would have found a way. He ran a completely different style from Barry. Violent, ferocious, fearless. Those two guys are the best I've ever seen. But what AD did this season was something otherworldly.

Barry Sanders had amazing speed, agility and vision and was one of the greatest running backs of all time. But I’m sorry, AP had a raw power and second gear that will never be replicated. You can see it in his stride when he does this. He was like a Barry Sanders - Bo Jackson hybrid. I’ve never seen anyone run with that much power. He ran like a locomotive. This video shows the caliber of athlete he was coming back from injury like that and that quickly.

I love Emmit Smith, Eddie Gorge, L.T., etc... but NO ONE has performed as well as AP... based on super bowls, records, whatever.. it doesn't matter... based on skill NO ONE is as great as AP

Touted as the Most elusive back to play the sport and has two 2000 yard seasons, an MVP and all ten years he played he was a pro bowler. Never once dipped under 1000 yards a season. He's the greatest player in the league who never earned a ring, and he deserved one.

Correction, he could have been the best of all time. Missing a year for child abuse and another year for a knee injury pretty much killed his GOAT candidacy. He is still a future HOF'er, but somewhere in the top 20 or so, not best ever like he could have been.

I put Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton ahead of him. Peterson is in the next group including Smith, Dickerson, Faulk, Tomlinson, etc., but at that point it comes down to who your personal favorite is. My one caveat is Peterson isn't quite done yet. He could boost his standing with a 1,000 yard season over age 30.

    • @cbfa1

He played when he played. He had 1950's training methods available, he did what he did. Nobody can touch his career average of over 105 rushing yards per game. It is not like a bunch of other running backs did that at that time. He was 30 years ahead of everyone else.
