Yeah, you actually COULD say that he was a commander, the actual explanation was that he only wasn't given the official promotion because it was going to be given to him, but as a commander he would have to be in the back lines to oversee the battles, but he wanted to be in the front with his men so he stayed a captain
Cidball Cidball I think it was due to Ashoka being commander so he couldn’t rank up but there’s no excuse to why he hadn’t ranked up because when she left who was commander?

+Korps_of_Krieg 40K Ahsoka was the Commander, but Obi Wan said she’s no longer affiliated with the GAR since she left the Order. Therefore, the Commander position was open for Rex’s promotion with Ahsoka as his Adviser.

No no no! That makes no sense at all! Every legion (legion! Not battalion, regiment or corps) Has a senior commander. Their were regimental commanders who led them, and under those were battalion commanders. Rex was only a captain and Jedi Liason. He only became a Battalion Commander. He was just Jedi Liason. Most Liasons are commanders, but if a Jedi wanted too, they could pick a Trooper as a liason and make them out rank everyone. Rex only became a battalion commander when he led the 322nd Battalion.

Nick Wilson We most likely won't, we're in Revenge of the Sith now, it's really unlikely they'll have wanted to touch scenes straight from or during the movie and will just stick to Mandalore.
Big Mike The only way I see it happening is either during the opening intro for the next few episodes it gives us glimpses at the battle and Grievous with some cool shots of him slaying Jedi left and right or we see him in the continuation of the Clone Wars as confirmed by Clone Wars producers. Apparently they are getting very good repetition on the new season so they are deciding on added more episodes kind of the like the lost missions.
The Maykr If they finished the Utapau arc we'd see a lot of New Grievous, and that's the most finished 4 episode arc besides the Bad Batch arc which obviously was already released, so if they add more it would most likely be Utapau
Big Mike Yeah that’s probably the whole reason why I wanted to watch Season 7 which was because of Grievous. He’s just such an interesting and cool character. Sad to see Disney threw him aside as some cartoon villain and now don’t even mention him in media anymore. Easily one of the most iconic characters. So when people met him, they knew he was a Senior Commander, but they still called him Captain cause that's how they found out about them
I always thought Ahsoka was the technical commander. With Anakin being the general, and then Rex as the highest ranking clone leader, Ahsoka filled that gap.
No kidding. I actually choked up a bit when that door opened and they had all painted their helmets. Nice touch. Not sure why when they get to Mandalor Rex is wearing his usual blue and white again though, when the rest went with the painted Ahsoka helmets. My only guess is that they did it purely so you can identify him in the action sequences.
Honestly I don’t really think it’s 4 days judging by Padme’s pregnancy and childbirth ... unless childbirth is accelerated in Star Wars universe or something
Darth Malgus: "You were trusted to lead the Republic. But you were deceived, as our powers of the darkside have blinded you. You assumed no force could challenge you. And now... finally... we have returned."
The timeline of events in ROTS is roughly 9 months. Check the progression of Padme's pregnancy. She shows no signs after the battle of Coruscant but she tells Anakin that she is pregnant. By the end of the film on with her meeting with Vader on Mustafar she is clearly several months into the pregnancy. With that in mind, the seige of Mandalore lasted somewhere within the last 9 months of the clone wars along with the rest of the outer rim seiges in places like Felucia and Mygeeto.
Though Vaughn didn't get get much screentime, I'm so thankful for the massive gap in the lore his existence finally fills in the Clone organizational structure. It always irked me more than it should've that as far as we knew there was there was no subdivisions of the clone unit, so it's dope that we now have captains to command smaller elements of a legion.
9:23 only 4 days really? After the battle of Coruscant anakin didnt know padme was pregnant but at the end of the film she gives birth. I think it's much more than 4 days
It sucks how Vaughn died as soon as he introduced. He could of been another loyal soldier to Ashoka if he survived but he most likely would’ve obeyed order 66.
He probably always sees himself as a Captain and doesn't seem to care about rank ("Experience outranks everything"), hes also an ARC trooper but basically never mentions that, AND he didnt meet up with Wolfe and Gregor until long after Order 66 so they would either never know or be too old to remember a new title for Rex.
Captain Rex- promoted at long long last to the rank of commander Ahsoka- more or less earned the rank of knight Anakin-still hasnt earned the rank of master. RIP
I haven’t paid attention to Star Wars in so long now every time I hear 501st or 332nd I’m thinking of the “501st Heavy Panzer Battalion” and “332nd (Static) Infantry Division” because of all the World War II Videos I’ve been watching.
This defective clone's voice sounds *_familiar_* I remember hearing this voice some years ago, when there only a mere 10,000 clones serving this channel.
Jessi is in the background of one of the gunships and I’m scared Rex is going to have to kill him during order 66. Either that or Maul is going to kill him. He’s the only other background clone we know and see now.
Kross right when Almac calls them and he jumps out before Rex. He’s not seen for the rest of the episode but he’s not dead. They won’t just casually kill him. Arc troopers in this show seem to always have special deaths.
Ryan Chan I’m completely forgot about that scene and it does make sense. If he does read his mind then Jessi too would know of order 66 and Maul wouldn’t want others knowing about that regardless.
Makes perfect sense. Since Rex was formally promoted they needed a captain for torrent company or the "332nd" Vaughn apeared to be the one promoted to captain.
am i the only one that is sad that Jessie didnt get any lines in ep9 i am very interested in what might happen to him because he is still next to rex my fav clone
The commander of the 501st was Asohka, Jedi padawans we’re given commander status and knights/masters are given general. Also I feel like they only called him captain Rex instead of commander is because it sounds better
I hadn't thought about this before now, but maybe the 4 episodes of this final Clone Wars arc mirrors the 4 days over which Revenge of the Sith takes place.
I think it took so long for Rex to get promoted to commander because he was a CT (as mentioned by Krell in Season 4, and confirmed by Jesse in Season 7), unlike Cody, Bly, and Wolffe, who were CCs. There was likely an institutional glass ceiling on the rank attainment of CTs. Only allowing clones specifically bred to be officers to make commander sounds like something those Kaminoans would do, and like something that Palpatine would implicitly endorse.
I loved everything about episode 9! It had everything I would want: Lots of action, new (named) clone troopers, and Asoka back leading the 501st! It was everything I want all those years ago!
It was either mentioned or read somewhere in clone wars. The reason why captain rex was never a commander (technically he was a commander throughout the series), because anakin was general and ahsoka was commander, in their ranking a captain is next in command. This was clear in the clone wars series, captain rex always refered to his leaders as general skywalker or commander tano.
Lol this episode showed the parallels of Obi Wan and Cody with Anakin and Rex. With Obi Wan and Cody being serious and following protocol while Anakin and Rex are all about showing off and being spontaneous.
I’ve always wondered how they replenish troops despite the casualties they have during battles. I think the 501st legion is more of a division instead of a brigade since a division can have like 6,000 to 20,000 men
332nd is likely the brigade/regiment in the 332nd division of the 501st. Company levels are generally named, not numbered, well at least here ;) In SW, they can organize however they like and just jumble it all together ;)
When you said we aren't told if there was a brigade commander, It's CC-1119, aka Appo, he's also the one who confronts Bail Organa in Revenge of the Sith before the padawan is killed.
Now I’m not saying I think this will happen but since everything from the trailer was in this first episode (except Maul vs Ahsoka) I think it would be pretty cool if they fought in the second, which they likely will, and then left the third and fourth episodes for Revenge of the Sith tie ins. I mean Grievous got a whole redesign I can’t see that being used for that single 2 second shot only. We’ll see but all I know is I’m hype af.
They are classified as a LEGION. In canon and legends. A legion contanta around 9k ish clones including support personnel. They are not handpicked, they are just any other clone unit who happens to have some of the highest casualties of the war. A clone unit doesn't, "hand pick" every single clone. It would be a waste of time and effort. Clones would get automatically assigned after their birth or after completeing their training. Sure we saw Echo and Fives, but that was bcause they lost their entire squad and that squad may have probably already been in the 501st, and Rex's, "Welcome to the 501st" speech wpuld probably mean. "You are now like one of us" kinda metaphor
The original lore for the 501st Legion was that they were comprised of some of the best troopers who fought during the First Battle of Geonosis, and that Supreme Chancellor Palpatine had them sent to Coruscant for specialised training. That is partially what makes the 501st legion stand out considerably from other Grand Army units.

Rex deserved to be commander WAY WAY before this but I’m glad they still made it official.
I love how everyone's using the red text in their videos now. Haha!

1:00 😂 that's cold
The intro of Rex shooting the clone-eating worm in the eye is absolute classic gold. The recruits are just like “woah”. That scene always make me lol.
I hade more simpathy to Vaughn than anyone in the sequel trilogy
Deadass.
"What do you think will happen over what's left of the arc?"
Why, heartbreak, of course.
_Hopefully the Mandalorian and Order 66 shit is hype enough to make me forget how Anakin lost all his personality in the span of a few hours..._
I read that in Malgus's voice lol
Starwars: commanders are higher than captains
Cody: *still calls Rex "sir"*
Experience out ranks everything -Rex
It took 13 years but rex is now cammmader rex
StarsaberPrime K well yes but no
In real time, yes. But the show I think takes place 4-5 years between Episode II and III.
Shaddox Chaos Gaming I know
Dave Filoni: Oh cool Rex is know Commander Rex
Me: His Name is Rex! But you call him Captain or Sir!
Vaughn's death was so touching, even tho he was a quick character his death was as emotional as fives and every other clone death. I love him. R.I.P
It still bothers me that AT-TEs are referred to as "Tanks"
Why
There referred to walkers and tanks
Walkers are often referred to as tanks even the AT-AT
But, they are tanks, even though walker is the designation, a walker is just a type of tank
Rex-“What’s our plan of attack sir”
Anakin- “Follow me!!”
That scene never gets old
Though Vaughn didn't get get much screentime, I'm so thankful for the massive gap in the lore his existence finally fills in the Clone organizational structure.
Damn... (7:35) this scene made me cry my eyes out... My favorite clone that died too early, and deserved more time on episodes..
Hasn't Rex been called "captain" in rebels?
234zu Scoutjango Star Wars is a continuity mess...
It sucks how Vaughn died as soon as he introduced. He could of been another loyal soldier to Ashoka if he survived but he most likely would’ve obeyed order 66.
Can someone explain how RoTS can take place over 4 days if padme’s pregnancy looks to progress more than 4 days time
You have no idea how much I want to see the battle of Courascant in clone wars animation.
Doesn’t this screw up Rebels? Think they still called him Captain there? Not that I care much for that anyways
Spencerrr Rex might look a little like one but he’s definitely not an ARC trooper.
@@jacobmckay9111 It's canonical now that he is according to Wookiedpedia. Also what do you expect from Disney.
@@sethnanney448 Would there be a point? Rex being a commisioned officer probobly makes arc trooper obsolete.
Seth Nanney yep just checked ur right.
It was so awesome to just see that little snippet of Depa and Caleb
Captain Rex- promoted at long long last to the rank of commander
Ahsoka- more or less earned the rank of knight
Anakin-still hasnt earned the rank of master.
RIP
We need more videos like this to clear up the military structure in the Republic and Empire
I haven’t paid attention to Star Wars in so long now every time I hear 501st or 332nd I’m thinking of the “501st Heavy Panzer Battalion” and “332nd (Static) Infantry Division” because of all the World War II Videos I’ve been watching.
Wow awesome story
This defective clone's voice sounds *_familiar_*
I remember hearing this voice some years ago, when there only a mere 10,000 clones serving this channel.
Jessi is in the background of one of the gunships and I’m scared Rex is going to have to kill him during order 66. Either that or Maul is going to kill him. He’s the only other background clone we know and see now.
Kross he is behind Rex when they are in the gunship
Kross right when Almac calls them and he jumps out before Rex. He’s not seen for the rest of the episode but he’s not dead. They won’t just casually kill him. Arc troopers in this show seem to always have special deaths.
@@ryanchan2711 nooooooOOOOO
Ryan Chan I’m completely forgot about that scene and it does make sense. If he does read his mind then Jessi too would know of order 66 and Maul wouldn’t want others knowing about that regardless.
Makes perfect sense. Since Rex was formally promoted they needed a captain for torrent company or the "332nd" Vaughn apeared to be the one promoted to captain.
am i the only one that is sad that Jessie didnt get any lines in ep9
i am very interested in what might happen to him because he is still next to rex my fav clone
I think maul will kill him. In the trailer you see maul not force choke but technically read someones mind. That person looked like jesse

Vaughn was so cool, he was like Cody but cooler looking. I thought it was sick how he almost killed Saxon before he ran away.
First?
2:30 its a small cool detail but it's rare to see clones using their stocks on the DC-15
"THis is outrageous. It's unfair" - Anakin when hearing that Ahsoka and Rex got promoted but he didn't.
The commander of the 501st was Asohka, Jedi padawans we’re given commander status and knights/masters are given general.
Also I feel like they only called him captain Rex instead of commander is because it sounds better
Can I just say the animation in this last arc is amazing. So fluid, so smooth, and somehow better than the last 8 episodes.
Congratulations *Commander* Rex.
I loved everything about episode 9! It had everything I would want: Lots of action, new (named) clone troopers, and Asoka back leading the 501st! It was everything I want all those years ago!
I hope we get more seasons the show has and still is my favorite star wars series
I love how they said the general grievous had a large attack on the core, it makes the war seem less one sided
R.I.P Ridge.... From being a clone on a gunship to teth to being a clone getting impaled by maul.
Impaled by maul with a wall.
My god that shot of general grevious, so beautiful
The beginning of this video: "This video may contain spoilers"
The title: ya don't say
I think the 501st legion is more of a division instead of a brigade since a division can have like 6,000 to 20,000 men
*me realizing the last arc is during revenge of the sith* "oh yeah, it's all coming together."
Congratulations to you Rex on your promotion. You are now a commander just like me. 🎉🎉🎉
The name is Rex, but you can call me Commander or Sir 🤭 congrats to our boy ❤️
332nd is likely the brigade/regiment in the 332nd division of the 501st. Company levels are generally named, not numbered, well at least here ;) In SW, they can organize however they like and just jumble it all together ;)
"that's an order trooper" that sounded so genuine 🙈
I'll be so sad when it ends but it'll be awesome for it to finally have a ending where it was on a cliff hanger for so many years
When you said we aren't told if there was a brigade commander, It's CC-1119, aka Appo, he's also the one who confronts Bail Organa in Revenge of the Sith before the padawan is killed.
@@godsdj7316 I'm stating how Geetly got his lore wrong about the 501st and how it's the "best of the best" when they are not. I know they're "elite" but they didn't go through special training on Coruscant.
damn...that episode is so great..I wonder what remaining 3 episodes will be ...so Hyped
The 501st reminds me of the US Army's 160th SOAR/Night Stalkers.
