José Luis he was in one scene, maybe a few more, in the Umbara Arc. Krell orders him to go save Rex and his men in episode 1 or 2 I believe.
@@ttv_mrjack6749 They probably wouldn't have killed _every_ Jedi though without the chips. Under Anakin's leadership, the 501st have seen both good & bad Jedi leaders so I think they would've killed Jedi that seemed like traiters and ignored one that weren't...if any dialogue took place that is. Both the Clones & Jedi would defend themselves from being attacked so maybe all of the Jedi would still end up dead.
The inhibitor chips made sure the Clones thought all Jedi were traitors except when told otherwise like Anakin/Vader.
I doubt they would've still killed the Younglings besides in self-defense. The Clones aren't _that_ heartless.

I think that most of the 501st clones (including Jesse) were partially resisting order 66. The members of the 501st was shown very often to be creative and smart, yet in this episode they were outsmarted by a few droids. I think that they weren't trying their hardest and only doing the minimum of what the chip made them do.
Yes, but you should also note they hunted Ahsoka down like a pack of rabid dogs and they ultimately did corner her. Blowing up all the escape pods at an early time is a perfect example of this(even though rex was commanding at that point) rex even makes a comment on if they weren’t trying to kill them, he’d be proud of the way they operated in shutting down the venator. I believe if Ahsoka was replaced with about any other Jedi even those on the council they would not have survived (plot armor of course)
@@Kazaam818 Yeah especially considering Ahsoka got shot like 4 times, albeit all in non fatal places. Arms twice I think and the I forget the other 2. Thats what makes the Clones so scary, is they still are elite warriors and the best in the galaxy. They can hit their targets
@@jonathanmarcus1096 So were Stormtroopers, unfortunately as the villains they don't have the benefit of being shown to be as intimidating as they should be due to going up against the main characters, I'm sure much of the same training clones did was transferred onto Stormtrooper training.
@@Kazaam818 Right, but I think that they were (maybe subconsciously) not doing their best. These were the same clone troopers who captured and killed Pong Krell, yet even when they had Ashoka pinned down and incredibly out numbered they were beaten by a group of droids.

Rewatching this, I have a theory: Jesse did struggle when he got the order. His struggle happened out in the hallway before he burst in and shot at Ahsoka. Why didn’t he hesitate when Rex offered him those outs? Well, he did. He listened to Rex when Rex was talking. He hesitated when Rex was talking about disobeying. He even went so far as to grandstand about their execution, declaring loud and clear and slowly that he’d be demoting Rex and then executing him next to Ahsoka Tano, who he specifically took the extra few seconds to label as a traitor before finally telling the company to ready their weapons, aim, and then was interrupted by the droids. He hesitated. If he hadn’t, he’d have just shot Rex and Ahsoka, and the other clones would have followed suit. Now, here’s why he didn’t actually TAKE the outs offered: because of the chip. It’s that simple. Rex struggled the most of any clone we’ve seen, and even then, he nearly shot Ahsoka and threatened a droid with destruction because it displayed a message from her. No hesitation from him there. If the droid hadn’t shocked him unconscious, he’d have shot Ahsoka in the head. If Rex, the clone who’d resisted the most, couldn’t disobey the chip after it had activated fully, how could Jesse? He couldn’t fully resist it, so the ARC delayed. He delayed, inwardly hoping that Rex and Ahsoka had a plan to get out. I’m sure the other clones there did too, or they’d have just shot Rex as well for committing treason along with Ahsoka for being a traitor. Even the 332nd clones on the bridge of the Venator hesitated when Rex snapped at them not to shoot her and that he’d do it, only opening fire when Rex finally did. If the chip had fully overridden their minds into thinking what they were doing was entirely right, they’d have shot Ahsoka anyway despite the order from Rex not to since Order 66 would have trumped his order not to. Essentially, most of the clones on the Venator Ahsoka was on did resist Order 66, but their resistance wasn’t noticeable enough to be a full outright refusal to carry the Order out. The chips ensured that they couldn’t resist it entirely, so they did what they could: delaying when possible and stretching everything out so Ahsoka could have the best possible chance of survival.
Except no they wouldn’t. The chip does not override military protocol. If Rex ordered them to hold their fire under the belief that it was still on service of Order 66, they would listen. The chip doesn’t make them blind drowns, it just warps their minds. That’s why the chip can be overrides through either enough willpower or a loop hole.
Don’t believe me? Look up the Kanan comics where the only reason he survived was because a clone disobeyed the order
yeah a lot of these vids highlight just how fast the clone troopers, let alone ARCs, are. Getting them to delay that microsecond might be the difference between life and death.

I don’t think there’s any doubt or morals within Jesse at that moment. All the other clone protagonists raised their weapons and fired, even ARC independents, even longtime friends. Bly and Bacara laid Mundi and Secura out. A hype-surrounded 501st shouldn’t be any different.
I think Jesse had the same inner fight when order 66 came out, like Rex. He just was backstage and we couldnt see it. Rex only hesitated at the beginning, but after the Chip took Conrol, he was ready to hunt Ahsoka without any doubts. I think the same happened to Jesse. Once the Chip took control of the clones, there was no way back
Because the order actually works on former jedi as well. The Darth Vader comics shows this fact on Mon Calamari. The inquisitors were attacked after a jede mindtricked the clones
Seems like Jesse was briefly able too consider it but his mind shifts because of the control Chip, and as a result accuses Rex of treason against the republic.
It’s not like he didn’t consider it, it’s just that the Control Chip overrode any thought that would be considered treason. Even if their was some success, it would not have lasted long due to the programming of the Control Chip that not even Rex could resist for long.

What's sad is if Rex hadn't said that Ahsoka has been "Marked for termination by Order 66", Jesse might have been able to cling to that logic long enough to break free from the spell, as this line is what the chip clings to in order to snap him back into Order 66.
@@Zeknif1 But again, this shows just how far Palpatine had things planned-he needed Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, and Padme dead to Anakin. He needed him isolated. Hell, let's just throw Rex onto that list because it seems that Sidious personally calls him to make sure he does the deed. Had Rex made it back to Couresant, Vader would have killed him for killing Ahsoka
@@carlycrays2831 I'm not entirely sure about that but I do agree Rex and pretty much all the surviving clone troopers would have been marked men since they were now aware Sidioius's plan
I think it's also possible that he didn't know about the control chips so he didn't realize that those thoughts were not is own but were being forced into his brain. Hed didn't have a big enough reason to question them like Rex had.

He's was never a bad guy. Without the chip, he wouldn't have ever carried out the order. He loved Rex, who was one of his best friends, and Ahsoka a ton. One of my favorite Clones and characters in all of Star Wars. He was such a very nice and extremely kind person too. Palpatine took all that from him. Jesse will always be a hero in truth!!!! I'm not gonna blame him or any Clone for their actions. They don't have free-will in truth. Jesse may be associating Ahsoka with Krell, and therefore be extra motivated to kill her. But in truth it's not really him, it's still the chips. I can't believe he, or any single Clone, would have ever considered killing Ahsoka or Rex, without the Inhibitor Chips

@@kingorange7739 Yeah-that's why I never liked the explanation in Legends. I felt it didn't make any sense psychologically. You don't fight alongside people you grow to love for years and become best friends with, and then murder them without a seconds thought. The legends one only makes sense with Clones who were brutalized and abused by the Jedi they served with, but for the other half that loved the Jedi, it doesn't work. You would have like 5,000-6,000 Jedi still alive, which is why I hate the legends explanation. I like lots of Legends, but not the order 66 piece

I think that one of the reasons Jesse didn't go with Rex was because order 66 wasn't just against Jedi, but pretty much all force users, which is why Rex ordered the execution of Maul just after Ahsoka escaped. still great video though and a good explanation
Yeah, doesn't really make much sense not to include all Force users. There are plenty of former Jedi who would be a problem

One of the droids in the episode was actually R7 which was Ahsoka’s personal droid when she was a Jedi. This makes his death even sadder because he sacrificed himself to save Ahsoka.

My personal pet theory for why Jesse still decided to kill Ahsoka was because, regardless of her official status, Jesse still considered her to be a Jedi. So in the end, the thing that prevented him from resisting was his own loyalty to her before 66 was declared
Edit: nope, Jesse had no choice, we don’t see his reaction when initially given the order. And using Legends examples from before the control chip was even a thing isn’t valid in this case

Jesse already believed that Rex could be a traitor, since earlier in this episode he asked if Rex is helping Ahsoka, to which the other clones responded that this is currently unclear. Just imagine you are a mind controlled soldier and your suspicious Commander, who mysteriously disappeared for a time, reveals that he's done the unthinkable and captured Ahsoka all by himself and tells you about a large conspiracy. He wouldn't believe him and for good reason. After all, most of us only know about the inhibitor chips, because we saw them and know that the conspiracy is real. For everyone else, including most clones, it is just a weird conspiracy theory. How do you react to real life conspiracy theories? Do you think about them and come to the conclusion that some theories might be true, or do you believe that most if not all conspiracy theorists are just insane madmen that ignore reality? Combine this with the effects of the chip and Jesse's suspicion and you'll see why this wouldn't have worked. Rex' approach was in fact the most promising of all possibilities.

I feel like Jesse was trying to accept Rex's logic. You can tell when you see Jesse sort of lowering his weapon as Rex was pleading to him, but the chip wouldn't allow it sadly.
Regardless whitout the chip I still think Jesse would have at least questioned the order, if not disobeyed it, same goes for the rest clones on that cruiser. Rex with all his will tried to disobey the order but couldn't so there's no universe where anybody can make me belive Rex would have tried to kill Ahsoka if not for the chip.
He was also super, super close to her. Yet could only resist for like 4 seconds and say a "fives...find fives" and started shooting at the last word. Those chips did not fuck around.
Given Jesse's brief hesitation, I feel like even with the chip, if Sidious hadn't specifically mentioned Ahsoka in order 66, he would've taken the offer.
Also, how is Jesse and the rest of the Clones supposed to resist something they don't know is there. We have zero confirmation and evidence that Kix told anyone, what Fives discovered. Rex suspected and knew the chips existed which is why he briefly managed to resist for a couple seconds. Cody, Jesse, Boil, Crys, Sergeant Fox of the 501st (not Coruscant Guard), and Appo, didn't know it existed, until they were under its control

I thought he said they had specific orders from Palpatine to kill Ashoka. I took that as Palpatine anticipated this loop hole happening and made sure the clones still killed Ashoka as she was a big threat to bring Anakin back to the light side
What’s ironic is Rex could of pulled a second loop hole. He could of said that “If Ahsoka isn’t a Jedi then we would be executing an innocent citizen of the republic, the very people we are suppose to protect? If that is a legitimate order from Sidious then Sidious is in fact committing treason, so let me ask u Jesse, r u loyal to Sidious or the Republic? Because if we kill a Republic citizen who has committed no crime and has no affiliation with the Jedi traitors, we are going against our duty as soldiers for the republic. So tell me Jesse? Do u want to promote treason? If so then take ur shot.”

It wasnt specific from palpatine per say. Palpatine just gave the generic order 66 message now to the clones with ashoka that meant it was specific to them to kill her. They werent directly told to kill her

Ashoka have a lightsaber and that’s the only proof the chip needed.
Plus, they know Ahsoka as a Jedi. She was still their Jedi commander to them. That was cute during the Siege because it shows how loyal the clones are to her. But not so cute later...

@@JoshSacapano nah Jesse could have gone on his own you don't need to stay close to your brother's forever you can keep a distance to each other while still being able to contact each other like how ashoka tried contacting rex
We needed someone to be the main antagonist, Jesse was the obvious choice as we have grown to love him, having a recognizable character be the bad guy makes it more tragic. Plus, look at Jesse, he has the republic emblem tattooed on him and painted on his helmet. This symbolizes his loyalty to the republic and how he was technically following orders being given by the Commander-in-chief of the GAR, Chancellor Palpatine, who declared himself Emperor as of yet.

I love that the clone wars part of the clone wars ends with jesse helmet battered and broken. The fact that his helmet is the one with the republic logo on it symbolically shows how the republic was dead. It’s also sad that the leader of the republic betrayed the clone who had the republic logo on his helmet. I wonder if they planned any of this from the start

I never thought about seeing Ahsoka as Krell. It makes sense because Krell traumatized him. Rex resisted because he had a deep connection with Ahsoka, a connection that was absent with the other clones.
But Rex had time to hesitate, Jessie was off screen when the ordered was initially issued, and once Rex fully succumbed to the chip, he was all in for killing ahsoka.
And Rex actually knew about the chips and sort of understood what was happening to him. No other clone had a chance
Y’all ever imagine if Denal made it to the end? You think it would’ve been him and Rex helping Ashoka? Or him and Jesse in that standoff, having that brief thought but ultimately sticking to Order 66 because... “Good soldiers follow orders.”
Ehh, Denal seems to always have Rex's back but it all depends if he has the chip. If he does have the chip, he would be by Jesse's side no doubt because the chip would have overrode his other ideas and fixate him on killing jedi and the enemies of Palpatine.
I feel like that line was explicitly added in so Star Wars fans can't go "WELL TECHNICALLY AHSOKA ISN'T A JEDI ANYMORE" and make a ton of RUclips videos criticizing it. Dave Filoni beat you all to the punch.

I think when Rex had his chip removed he should’ve had a bit of mistrust to ahsoka. Because the chip made him think it was right so I think he should’ve had a small bit of his subconscious mind still thought she was a traitor
Which we do sort of see that with Wolffe in Rebels. He doesn't trust the Jedi, he hides Ahsoka's messages from Rex and tries to turn the Ghost crew in. But Rex knew what the chips were doing to him and knew where the thoughts were coming from
Yeah but Rex had foreknowledge of the plot via Fives. When Order 66 was executed, and Rex’s chip was removed, this confirmed Fives was right

What's really scary is that while the other clones didn't know what hit them with the Order, Rex did. He knew about the chips, he had some suspicion of their true purpose, and he knew about Darth Sidious.
When the order was given, he knew exactly what was happening and who was doing it to him. It must have felt like the Devil himself was telling him to murder Ahsoka

I think that Rex was a defective clone and that is why he had that reaction being able to fight the chip for even the smallest amount of time, to let Ahsoka know about Fives. Even the clones with the strongest loyalty to their Jedi generals like Commander Bly or Commander Cody did not hesitate for a second who held their Jedi generals in the same or higher regard then Rex.
There has been some theories that Rex was as defective as a clone could be before they were seen as unfit for normal service.
He already had prior knowledge of rhe chips and believed something was wrong with them he also had a strong bond with asohka and was probably one of the most individualistic clones.

Jesse was a hell of a clone along with Rex and Fives for showing independence and ingenuity. If it wasn't for Order 66, maybe he would still be alive and maybe would've helped Rex and the Rebels. RIP man you didn't deserve what happened to you!

I love Loacher Films' take on Order 66, wherein the chips re-wrote how the clones saw the Jedi, seeing them as opportunistic monsters. Great video.
The Bad Batch made it even more clear that the chips ended up obliterating the clones' personalities and literally turned them into cruel Stormtroopers. :-( Also, I think the thing with Rex is that Rex had forewarning that there might be something evil inside his head. He might have even prepared mentally against a scenario he hoped would never happen. Prior planning prevents piss poor performance apparently, *even* in this case.
Now I want to see a “What If?” video surrounding if Jesse DID take the ‘out’ Rex offered!
I think it's an interesting look at how the inhibitors worked. They plant one idea and enhance the clones' willingness to follow orders, and then the troopers' personalities dictate how they react.
Our brain is actually pretty good at coming up with justifications and rationales. This is how IRL biology works as well IIRC. Often times the impulsive bits of our brain makes an emotional decision first and the rational part kicks in later trying to explain why we thought that's the right thing to do.
Damn the clone wars was so good. Those last four episodes really brought the tragedy of the whole story to another level. Filoni really nailed this. I've watched the last four episodes like six times and the last episode itself even more. Just amazing.

Rex also resisted it more immediately as the order was given, it could be that the longer the chip had time to work the more the clone would start to believe they were doing the right thing.
QUESTION: Was Syfo dias (sp) aware of the chips that were installed in the clones to carry out Order 66 via Palatine when he commissioned for them to be created? He originally wanted them to save the Empire via force visions not contribute to its destruction.....
Except we don’t see him right when he’s given the order. He might have briefly hesitated and then stormed the bridge. Rex was pretty much compliant after the first few seconds.
I had a problem with the execution of order 66 on ahsoka. Rex said it himself "Any and all JEDI LEADERSHIP must be executed for treason" even if we classify her as a jedi she wasn't a military officer.
Edit: I know it's just to continue the story, but it still just doesn't 100% sit well with me..
That's a good point I hadn't thought of that. My guess would be because she helped with the siege of Mandalore maybe the clones felt she was making a return to the war effort or something like that, just my opinion.
I think Palpatine knew that Ahsoka was a key part of keeping Anakin grounded, and sent the order to Rex to further isolate his new apprentice.
The clones were still referring to her as "commander" during the Siege of Mandalore. That's what they knew her as. She was their leader.
If Ahsoka had been assigned to any other Clone Battalion, then maybe that logic would hold up, with with the 501st, she'd fought with them since near the beginning of the Clone Wars and had come to earn their respect as their "Jedi Commanding Officer" besides Anakin regardless of recognized status in the Grand Army of the Republic. Therefore because of the 501st's recognition of Ahsoka as their Jedi Commanding Officer when Order 66 was given, it actually makes a lot of sense that she would fall under the parameters of the order specifically in their minds more so than it would have in any other random clone battalion's despite no longer being an official member of the GAotR anymore.
Officially she was an advisor unofficially she was still their leader. The clones conflate anyone with a lightsaber and force powers as a jedi even if they dont associate as one
We all know how the inhibitor chips really work. They simply tell the clones to "dew it" !
For the 501st and 212nd, I think it was reasonable for them to actually believe that the jedi did betrayed the republic thanks to krell
How I see it the reason Rex could resist is because Ahsoka, one of his best friends, was just standing there. They had fought together for so long and he had been forced to chase her down. Even in his own words he said “I know Commander Tano. She would never do something like this.” So when Ahsoka was standing there he had a reason to fight it off. He didn’t want to kill her. While in the case of Cody and Jessi their Jedi that they had fought with weren’t there when order 66 had happened. So there was nothing for them to fight for.
Honestly Jesse was one of my favorite clones and it makes me sad he is dead now 😭.

Geetsly's I love Jesse even after what happened to him in the last episode and I totally agree with you and antill star wars announce the clone wars return Jesse is the only clone whith is own personality from the 501st (not including echo becose he whith the bad batch) that we didn't know what happened to him and why he didn't show in rebels.

That's a good question but the bigger question is... why isn't his Season 7 armour available as an ARC Trooper skin in Battlefront 2!
Also why did Rex give an Order 66 exposition dump when the Clones know what it is and just about everyone who watches TCW Season 7 has seen or are at least aware of the Order 66 sequence of Revenge of the Sith?
I assumed that the clones have the order but they don’t know all of the details, hence the Rex-position dump.

This! It is fun to speculate and all but Rex said that anyone helping Jedi including clones, will be executed for treason. Since the chips make them follow orders to a tee (because of alterations to their genetic code) it is very clear why Jesse did what he did.
In the Loacher Films short film “Betrayal” the chips altered the clones’ memory to make them hate the jedi

The lost episodes where the chip concept was introduced were already completed just not released and the siege of mandalore was already a thing in a couple ways.

7:20 after hearing what u have to say abt this, I think Jesse actually wanted to reject it just like Rex, but he also knew that had he joined Rex and Ahsoka, it will still be 3 of them vs thousands of clones. So, in a way, maybe he sacrificed himself so that Rex and Ahsoka have a fighting chance to survive instead guaranteed that 3 of them will be overwhelmed.
I was confused when Jesse said they were under orders from Darth Sidious when order 66 was an order made Palaptine while he was still known as the Chancellor of the Republic, to whom the GAR was loyal to. Why they would bring up the name Sidious when he had not yet been revealed to be Palpatine? Would it not be dangerous to have all of the GAR know the identity of Palpatine? More than that, having the GAR know that the title Darth is used only for the Sith Order and given to the Sith lords, wouldn't they know somewhere inside that this was all a Sith plot? Just a small hiccup from the writers I guess.

As we know, Jesse was extremely independent and was able to choose the best alternative for a certain situation. Disobeying order 66 at the time Rex offered him the way out would have made the other clones gun him down. All the other members of the 332nd were right next to him at the time and they would have gunned Jesse down instantly. Even if Jesse had given the order to not shoot Ahsoka and Rex, the other clones would have had the inhibitor chip to do the thinking for them and they wouldn't have hesitated to shoot Jesse alongside Ahsoka and Rex. Jesse was smart enough to understand this and didn't take the out he was offered.

I saw that too. For years the notion had always been that Bacara had no respect for Jedi. He would’ve executed the Jedi without the chip. But now people are saying he attempted to resist the chip
@@ih6601 it could be a behavioral switch. During his normal operations without being inhibited he hates the jedi, yet when he is forced by the chip he slinks into a sedate friendly trooper that admires the jedi. Think of him as 2 face. Normal= hates jedi, forced by order 66= friendly to the jedi.

So the thing about "safety" is that when you have an agent you want to boss around, you want to design it so that it does what you MEAN and not what you said. If you're gonna design a bunch of agents to be your god damn fucking GALACTIC army, you better make them safe or you're gonna regret it horribly. When Sidious says "kill the Jedi" he sure as hell meant "kill the jedi including those light saber wielding, light side force user who are technically not a jedi but kinda similar."
It's clear that the chip is very good at turning the clones into the agents that Sidious wants. That's all there is to it. Neither Jesse nor Rex could disobey the order. They are modified into agents that will interpret what Sidious meant, and carry out that order to the best of their ability. There was no "out" because the chip isn't a stupid ass trash tech made by an incompetent idiot.
Maybe the chip made their memory change or made them focus on bad memories of Jedi and Rex was able to struggle because he had none

There was an animation that showed another side of order 66. The clones were entranced, but then it got to more in depth of the idea the chip could alter their memories. Making the Jedi they fought beside exactly like Krell.
Jesse is such a chad, that he demoted Rex even tho he’s a ranks below him.
This scene reminds me of the commander droid having to think about letting Qui Gon leave before deciding to arrest him in episode one.
