@DeanCadillac14 Nihilist was the name Entombed used before Left Hand Path. Listening to that brings back so many memories, i saw loads of these bands back in the day. Nice compilation chief!
Great bands. Got me that Benediction one with Dark Is The Season tacked on it. I still scream MASTER!! to the top of my lungs some days heheh. Barney and Dave Ingram rock. That Cadaver is the same that became Cadaver Inc.? If so, it is really good shit. Thx for posting this, man.
Funny that you put Darkthrone's Soul Side Journey in there. Great album. But I do like the BM stuff a lot more. Though it would be cool to see them do more death metal.
I will start to be playing into an old school death metal band in a while. I wanted to play brutal death metal at first, but this is just really amazing. Starting with this. could always make it more brutal/technical.
@charlesdryden16 What the fuck are you talking about? Of course they're OSDM. Haven't you heard Dawn of Possession, To the Gory End or Considered Dead?
With old school death metal I also mention Nile and Cannibal corpse. Which are both one of my favorite bands. Although I listen to this alot too. I really enjoy the more brutal (still old school) style of music. Other bands which I like are skinless, Cryptopsy and vader. just to name a few. Misery index en vital remains are also very well, Behemoth (although not complete death). But indeed I really enjoy that kind of old school.
Recommendations to the user who created this video: Purtenance, Terminal Death, Sorcery, Soricide, Merciless, Possessed, Hellwitch, Genocide, Slaughter, Thanatos, Poision, Armoured Angel, Arsenic, Death Stricke, Funeral Bitch etc. Many are from 1985-1990. :)
Yes old scool is the best, but I also like some of the newer stuff like: Hate Eternal, Nile, some of Behemoth stuff, Bloodbath, Vital Remains "Dechristinize", but their older stuff is pretty good as well. I think most Death Metal bands today just focus on being too technical or too brutal and they forget about being musical
This is just a personal opinion about what you just wrote. I personatly like old school Death Metal way more than the new stuff. I just like the atmosphare those bands use to have back in the day, today everybody is just going very technical and I do apreciate technicality, but I think some bands today are forgetting about writting good songs. From today I like Nile, Bloodbath, some Behemoth, and hate Eternal. Back in the day you used to see bands writting great songs still with technicallity
Haha one of my favorite bands. They influenced me lyrical als musical. Only I tried to create some more technical based style of death metal. Still old school based. Because I like that style of music. However the newer solo's are also lovely to listen to (god dethroned).
yeah I didn't say DF create their music from metalcore . And I didn't know that deathcore bands were inspired by Cryptopsy O.o . Suffocation , yes , most of later bands of any kind were inspired by them . And the only thing I wonder is how internal bleeding created slam death ? let's share some knowledge , bro !
CROMLECH Into the abyss i fall And Dark is the reich of the dead A portal to reach to the side Where bodies fall from the sky Solitude And Peace Of Mind Entombed In Cromlech Yes, flee over the River Styx and join the dead with joy An ocean of Blasphemy Heathenish realm and "Do What Thou Wilt" as decoy My Prophecy is true... We'll All Make It Through
you can´t make a dm tribute without the two greatest. I still miss Death and Morbid angel. Forget about your little Update-Excuse in the discription...
no problem man , everyones entitled to their own musical opinion , listen to death - the philosopher , voice of the soul , and opeth - bleak , harvest , and the drapery falls, cynic - how could i , and textures
actually , some of DF's music was impact from Hardcore , and yes , if you want to ask , they didn't deny that fact . And Hardcore was somewhere related to Metalcore :) But I won't say that DF sounds like metalcore because DF is clearly Deathgrind , although they are the inspiration for metalcore , deathcore and slamming death bands create the thing that you call "breakdown" and "slam riff" :) Btw , Old School Metal fuckin' rules !!!
That first song really sounds like Reval in Flesh by Entombed... Great list though. I see DEATH and Morbid Angel not being including equivalent to Metallica or Slayer not being in a Thrash list, any Thrash fan should already know 'em.
@VonHendrixTV Wrong, Death Metal is not like core music. Its been split into other kinds of genres. Core music is good music, you just don't listen to the good bands. Take some time and actually listen to some bands that are decent or amazing. If you don't like modern day Death Metal like The Black Dahlia Murder, Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Cattle Decapitation. I mean these bands are really good. They're not inspired by metalcore cause then they;d have that As I lay Dying sound
look man i know,That was a reply to a guy who called darkthrone "death metal band".Soulside journey is death metal by Darkthrone is a BM band generally.
i agree for the most part , but there are some GREAT death metal bands , u just have to find some without to bad of growls i suggest death or cynic if ur jsut starting to listen , maybe opeth too
@Smkiller I like how the people who read this silly argument completely turned on you the minute you said Napalm Death was better than all those bands.
"Death Metal band out there today wants to just play blast beats and be technical" That is called Brutal death metal, completely different to death metal. Death Metal bands from the new old school scene like DeathevokatioN are making the scene to go back to the old style.
Death does NOT fit into this list. AS someone else said they may have been one of the first, but not THE first. Someone just goes aroudn saying that "Death started death metal, they are Gods, R.I.P. blablahblah"
90% of raxorback is crap but a few are good. So many old fools that buy from there say it is just like earache/metal blade/thrash records, but to be frank it isn't. Totally different from the real thing. Most of my preferred are not on here, but i have been studying this sort of music for awhile now. So i guess i got more into it.
Deeds of Flesh, Pungent Stench, Fleshgrind, Massacre, Mortician, Carcass, General Surgery... great old skool death metal, raw and filthy with blastbeats and those charactheristic drums sounds ! Those were the great days not like nowadays that it seems death metal has turned into emo and posers fav music n with shitty and gay clean production and tech crap
Instead of hating on bands that are what you described, why don't you find some bands like that that are actually good like - Dying Fetus, Cattle Decapitation, Guttural Secrete, Pathology, Suffocation, Laceration, Cannibal Corpse, and I could go on.
Morbid angel, Hypocrisy, Disgrace, purtenance, Seance, Sinister
@DeanCadillac14 Nihilist was the name Entombed used before Left Hand Path. Listening to that brings back so many memories, i saw loads of these bands back in the day.
Nice compilation chief!
Nihilist!! Thank you man! Looking everhwere for something by them, they sound amazing
@GeneralDonut123 Ridden with disease, from the album "Severed Survival"
\m/
Funny that you put Darkthrone's Soul Side Journey in there. Great album. But I do like the BM stuff a lot more. Though it would be cool to see them do more death metal.
By the way Awesome choice putting the first Darkthrone album that album is fucking sick
I will start to be playing into an old school death metal band in a while. I wanted to play brutal death metal at first, but this is just really amazing. Starting with this. could always make it more brutal/technical.
@fornidocucumber the song at around 1 minute isn't Ridden with Disease, it's Disembowel.
@charlesdryden16 What the fuck are you talking about? Of course they're OSDM. Haven't you heard Dawn of Possession, To the Gory End or Considered Dead?
With old school death metal I also mention Nile and Cannibal corpse. Which are both one of my favorite bands.

forgive me for my stupidity,
whether all the songs from the bolt thrower has a sound as heavy as this?
I fucking love it !!!
cadaver from norway, the song is from their first album "hallucinating anxiety" (1990, Necrosis Records)
If you like the old school shiiiit, then check out the band POLTRIP \m/
Nice video mate !
What is the name of the very first song, it sounds really good, but I'm having trouble finding it, since I can't understand the lyrics :D
love the old death metal sound it sounds so dirty and grim. death metal production now is too clean
Darkthrones first album is death metal.
Great video, Nihilist \,,/
I used to have that Entombed cassette, they were pretty bad ass. Where's Dark Angel, Morbid Angel and Kreator? They should be here too.
They did. They where actually on GW's label for a while, but I don't think they ever released anything on it.
Benediction!!! I dont know why but i love them...till know they r one of my favorite old school bands :)
Hey good vid man. I hate it when people go categorize music too seriously though...
@247metalfreak

By the way, no Deicide here!?!!!!
Really..i love These old songs!!
This is just a personal opinion about what you just wrote. I personatly like old school Death Metal way more than the new stuff. ...when did I say anything about Nihilist or Entombed. Obviously they are the same band and yes Autopsy is awesome
Great Autopsy song!
Severed survival is one of the best death metal albums of all time (in my opinion).
wow you have the exact opposite opinion from mine yet you actually stated it ina calm manner. fuck thats refreshing. good for you lol. :)
Which was the band that started with the C? It was around the fifth or sixth I think. I couldn't read the name.
...when did I say anything about Nihilist or entombed, obviously they are the same band and yes Autopsy is awesome
Haha one of my favorite bands. They influenced me lyrical als musical. Only I tried to create some more technical based style of death metal.

you can´t make a dm tribute without the two greatest. I still miss Death and Morbid angel. Forget about your little Update-Excuse in the discription...
Isn't the Nihilist song a cover of Entombed's "Drowned"?
did nihilist make a cover on entombed's revel in flesh or is it the other way around?
The old Nile is also awesome. Also, why the hell isn't Deicide on this list? Check out the video response, theres 5 good old school bands.
drinking beer at 1am and listening to old school death metal!!!!
no problem man , everyones entitled to their own musical opinion , listen to death - the philosopher , voice of the soul , and opeth - bleak , harvest , and the drapery falls, cynic - how could i , and textures

the way I see it, Death started the technical death metal, Carcass started the brutal death metal, and Napalm Death started grindcore.
this list had be almost perfect but you needed Grave they make awsome oold school metal. other wise awsome list

Morgoth, Massacra, Pungent Stench, Deicide, Asphyx, Benediction (Barnie on mic).

3:40 What's the name of the band? can't read it.
Magnific sounds dude ..fuckin classic
I think it was Possesed, but of course I may be wrong so don't take my word on it.
@247metalfreak Soulside Journey was from before they changed to black metal
Ah...that also explains the similar logo.
i agree for the most part , but there are some GREAT death metal bands , u just have to find some without to bad of growls i suggest death or cynic if ur jsut starting to listen , maybe opeth too
Back then? It was too around. The Scum album was pure grindcore. And so were Carcass' albums.
@infection82 they were death metal on harmony corruption
@Smkiller I like how the people who read this silly argument completely turned on you the minute you said Napalm Death was better than all those bands.
"Death Metal band out there today wants to just play blast beats and be technical" That is called Brutal death metal, completely different to death metal.

What you call "old school death metal" is for me death metal. This regular death metal! very nice songs btw
Wats the name of the cadaver song?
no theyre not. all they did was put some new songs out with the Severed Survival reissue. they said, no tours, no new cds.
Hell yeah! some REAL Death Metal :D
Sorry, meant Revel in Flesh
Deeds of Flesh, Pungent Stench, Fleshgrind, Massacre, Mortician, Carcass, General Surgery... great old skool death metal, raw and filthy with blastbeats and those charactheristic drums sounds ! Those were the great days not like nowadays that it seems death metal has turned into emo and posers fav music n with shitty and gay clean production and tech crap
That autopsy song is like listening to slaughter :)
whats the name of the autopsy song
He did, in Subconscious Terror
Instead of hating on bands that are what you described, why don't you find some bands like that that are actually good like - Dying Fetus, Cattle Decapitation, Guttural Secrete, Pathology, Suffocation, Laceration, Cannibal Corpse, and I could go on.
@ChannelxxAUSTRIAxx01 Don't forget Taking Back Sunday
BENEDICTION - Subconscious Terror. Buy it (or download it)!!!
Best Bolt Thrower song is When Glory Beckons
@IAmTheWarbringer Did I am the Cocklicker not know that Black Dahlia is Melodic DEATH METAL?!? ROFL.
It depends on what kind of metal your prefer.
I prefer primitive death metal.
I find it hard to get into tech or prog...
agree, but Obituary is , i would say, very good
what's the diference between death and black metal?
for a future list, Dark Angel is great
