Hats off to Hannah for being so cordial acknowledging the faster Champ. He was cocky in his prime because he knew he ruled, but it's nice to see him like this. He did to DeCoster and others what these younger guys then did to him. Can't be 21 yrs old forever.....sigh
I was a kid when I went to this race. Johnson and Lechien were the only 2 riders to do the triple. Ron did it in the heat race. This was my very first supercross race. Then we managed to get our hands on a pass to get us on the floor after the race. Went in the tunnel and stood a few feet away from Rocky Johnson and his team. Pretty fricken awesome for first time experience of a 7th grader at the time.
Beer And Cigarettes for sponsors!! Love it!!.....Thank Jesus I lived through those days...We gave our sport away, just like we're giving our country away. (We'll not quite that bad)
The best thing about supercross racing from 85 to 87,was the battles for the top position, was something that doesn't always happen I mean from lap two ish, right to the end, hard clean racing,17 laps of that these guys earned their pay...when they had to battle each other corner to corner, thinking you got somebody,I like what David Bailey said racing Ricky was like racing Rocky Balboa..
Great to see races from way back when. Thanks for posting! That announcer is the WORST. He sounded terrible back then, and terrible now. Seeing supercross on tv was not as easy to come by back then as it is today, and it just ruined those few races we did see when this guy did his endless screaming and made all those inane comments. Why does he say it is "unbelievable!" when a rider keeps going forward to catch and pass the guy in front of him? It's a RACE! That's what the RACERS do; they pass and get passed. BELIEVE it, Mr. screaming worst announcer of the 80s guy!
Old school supercross races here. Love watching these. Went to some of these races back in the day. Some of my favorite riders i enjoyed watching Rick Johnson Jeff ward David bailey Johnny O mara Micky diamond Larry brooks ERIC kehoe Tyson vohland Jeff Stanton Ron the pot head lachine Bob the hurricane Good times good memories From 1986. To. 1989. Good stuff. Thank you for sharing this. Hope you post more videos
the announcers were idiots back then. Especially when they would attempt to describe the sport of "motoRcross" to the fans. Most of the fans knew way more than the lame announcers.
The huge leap forward in motorcycle performance and supercross difficultly in really a small period of time. It was like stepping out of the stone age into truly high performance motorcycles in a few year period
Yeah....87 & 89 Cr's were the the Legit Shit.....Owned 'em both brand new, 125 & 250 87, 88 and 89. 88's were crap...don't remember why...They just didn't have it. Honda skipped a beat in 88 I think. Sold my 88's within a few months...hung onto my 87's till the 89's came out, thank God.
With ya'll bringing back the triple crowns the last few years, which I know was done at least once in 2000. Why not bring back some of the two day event races.
Rick Johnson was a great face for the sport! classy and great personality. sucks that he broke his wrist and ended his run. he definitely would have won many more supercross races before McGrath arrived. I love that they didn't spew out their 500 sponsors and family every flipping podium interview back then.
I wish we could all get together and take back some of our riding areas, not everybody wants to push a baby in a stroller, or walk their dog, or hug a tree… Some of us still want to ride! I need somebody with a brain to start a petition on change.org or some thing, these were the best years of my life 1985 to 1990! Let’s take it back, let’s show the young generation how much fun there is to have.Riding shouldn’t make us outlaws! God dammit
Lmao hahaha lol funny That announcer Larry Huffman always made me laugh. That guy cracks me up. The shit he would say and how loud and how excited he got. So funny ha ha ha ha
So much respect for each other, that's what you call true racing. Having fun at what you love doing. I respect them Rideras....
RJ and Bob all class, respect to RJ for telling it like it was and showing respect for what Hannah did and had done.

Its nice hearing guys talk about the race and not list all their sponsors like robots after the race!

Nice to hear the announcer advertise the make of the bikes. Days of racing for the love of the sport!
So cool

This is so hard to watch compared to today
13 years on YT and I can't find Ricky Ryan win the only SX race won by a true privateer
Back in the day when you had a choice of wearing a full-face helmet or open-face helmet.

Strange how you guys think you own this footage. Thanks for getting it removed from other accounts.
