Glen Helen Raceway and Dubya are very excited to announce the 2022 recipient of the 26th Annual Edison Dye Motocross Lifetime Achievement Award will be Jeremy McGrath, the most popular motorcycle racer of the 1990s. This seven-time AMA Supercross and AMA 250 National Motocross champion transcends motocross.
Born in San Fransisco on November 19, 1971 and later moved to Southern California. After just three years of riding as an amateur, McGrath made his AMA debut in 1989. He finished his first Supercross season ranked eighth in the 125 West Region Series. In 1990, he rode for the Kawasaki’s support squad and began to make his an impact on the sport. That year, he won his first 125 West Region Supercross race in Las Vegas and finished the season ranked second overall in the series.
While McGrath was becoming known as primarily a Supercross specialist even at this early point of his career, he proved he had skills on the outdoor circuits as well. In total McGrath won 17 AMA Motocross Nationals. In 1991, he was ranked fifth in AMA 125 motocross and eighth in the class in 1992. McGrath also won the Tokyo Supercross in 1992. After winning his first AMA Supercross race, McGrath went on to dominate the 1993 AMA Supercross Series, winning 10 races and earning the championship.During his career, McGrath rode for Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha. He was the first rider to own and ride for his own factory-backed team. He announced his retirement before the opening round of the 2003 AMA Supercross Series in Anaheim. Though retired from full-time Supercross and motocross competition, McGrath continued his racing career after being inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. McGrath’s legacy in the sport of motorcycle racing will be felt for generations to come.

Don’t care what anyone says about his ego or “arrogance “… dude is down to earth and for real. Thanks Jeremy for showtime and bringing the sport to the next generation
I didn't know he had an EGO . NOW MY BOSS HAS AN EGO AND HE PLAYED HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL THAT GAVE HIM AN EGO AND ITS SICKNING
I got a few pics and autographs from Jeremy at High Point back in the day!!! Very appreciative of his fans and very respectful!!! Took the time to actually talk to u and listen !!!
That's a 78 sorry for the correction but I grewup in that Era I ended up with a 79 kx80 but that rm my home track when I was growing up busting my ass to catch that bike lol yeah not a 79 rode the 79rm but cool man.
Motocross in the old days was only down to earth guys it seemed
Growing up in the 80’/90’s not knowing much about motorcycles and racing, anybody that rode dirt bikes KNEW EXACTLY who Jermey McGrath was! Thank you #2.
Nothing is greater then hearing Art Eckman announce McGrath. MC was my idol growing up. Had all the replica gear, replica helmet, bike parts everything. Wanted to be like him just like every other kid. He’s what motivated me to start racing and want to ride a lot. Met him several times. I had a friend from church who was friends with Jeremy (Eric “big e” bartoldus) and him working for GT he was able to get me a GT showtime bmx bike which i still have. He also let me meet him in the Yamaha trailer at the 99’ glen Helen national and get the number plate to the bmx bike signed. Such a memorable thing.
I still have a signed jersey of his from 2000
I was thinking his middle name was Eric meet him on the 6th and partied with him and Kim two of the coolest people I've ever meet.
I'm still a little messed up from meeting my all time favorite racer.
A true legend of the sport. Everyone will always remember watching his Supercross races as a kid and wanting to grow up to be like MC
Thank you Jody. It was awesome to hear your voice. You have been the most influential person in my 45 years of weekend warrior doings.
jody is a mx legend....
The documentary we all needed, thank you mxa!
The industry would not be the same with out you sir! Congratulations and Thank you! "THE LEGEND"
Jeremy will always be one of the most RAD dudes to exist in my eyes. As a teenager, I met him at autograph booth and saw him win Minneapolis SX twice, then at Millville he stepped away from his pre-race pit routine to sign my cast. Brought him joy to know I broke my wrist racing BMX haha. Legend ❤
I had the privilege of racing with Jeremy as an amateur and raced against him in his first Supercross at Anaheim. I crashed out and I think he ended up 3rd that night. The guy had amazing confidence and focus which I believe enabled him to nail holeshot after holeshot. Unreal. Anyway, congratulations Jeremy you deserve it!
I talked to his dad, Jack for a long time at Las Vegas 2000. I asked him how his son is so cool and humble with his fans. His answer: “He better better be humble! All can do is ride a motorcycle. Can’t even mow a lawn worth a shit!”
I’ve never laughed so hard.
When I met Jeremy, he asked if I raced, what class etc. He encouraged me to have fun. One of the best days of my life. Great guy.
You need to learn how to spell because none of that makes sense
I would love to ride and kick it with Jeremy ....that would be killer
The best of the best. Nothing but respect. Thank you sir.
Beautifully done retrospective on Jeremy by Jody. Thank you!
Truly a Legend in our Sport! The coolness of Brad Lackey, the showman of O’Show, the well spoken and humble spokesman for the fans of Rick Johnson; always a fan favorite, and my personal favorite. Congratulations Jeremy 🎉
Jeremy Mcgrath one of the many great riders of that era ,well done Jeremy👍🇦🇺🇺🇸🇺🇸
I met him at Dallas supercross one year at autograph signing. He really is a nice guy. I have always thought he was a good person and an excellent racer. Best wishes Jeremy
Brings back a lot of memories for this 51yr old watching Jeremy win weekend after weekend back in the day. thanks for this video.
"Plus... He was an MXA test rider"... God Bless you Jody!
Jeremy was so meaningful to all of us in the sport. Ask me what my son's name is... Why Jeremy of course! That's how far reaching Mr. McGrath was, is and always will be.
On a side note, if my Mother only knew how much school lunch money went to MXA mags when I was a kid... I'd be in deep doo-doo.
God Bless the Jody's, the Wolfman's, the Super Hunkys and all the rest. You guys changed young guys lives...
i saw the sport grow in my country since the 70's, and it all grew in 83 when i started avidly reading motorcycle magazines, then in 1989 everything changed, i saw my first copy of Motocross Action Magazine in my hands, and that boosted my taste for motocross and supercross tremendously, and later on the pages of the magazine i followed the emergence of this talented young Man, i think from 1993 onwards, which only increased my passion and enthusiasm even more, becoming since 1996 a Heart fan of this Guy who is eternal inspiration for Motocross fans and riders around the world, in addition to being an example of humility and character off the tracks, the Sport owes a lot to the person of Mr. Jeremy McGrath, who contributes to my own motivation never running out...
Thank you Jeremy, totally deserved! Congratulations. Watching you race was so much fun. Still today you inspire. 7x Champ 72 Wins. You truly are the King of Supercross!
so refreshing to hear about a racer & he is the best ever
There is and never ever will be another like Jeremy McGrath, the goat 72 super Ross wins, never to be broken
Great video MXA! Thanks Jeremy!
He signed my plate when I was there. Awesome moment, awesome guy, down to earth, humble.
Congratulations Jeremy. You deserve the lifetime achievement award! Supercross and motocross changed for the better because of you. A truly class act. Long live the King!!!
I was the last guy in line to get an autograph at his first outdoor win at Gatorback. He stayed till everyone got an autograph(me). I wish I would have talked to him more then, but it was my first time meeting a real big time racer so I didn't think he wanted to talk and was too busy. I was wrong. Thanks Jeremy.
WHAT A TREAT TO WATCH THIS VIDEO! Would love to meet McGrath one day! What an athlete and apparently genuine person! Miss the years of him winning yet still contributing to people lives. Thank you Jeremy for the never forgotten memories!
Combine Supercross and motocross Jeremy is the GOAT ! In my opinion hail king Jeremy!
All Time King of the sport for sure! Best Rider and so good with the fans. Thanks Jeremy!
Met him at Tampa BMX after the Tampa supercross back in the late 90’s when he was sponsored by GT Bikes. Nicest dude ever, talked to him about everything but moto even though I raced bmx and moto too but he loved to talk about riding stand up skis and blasters in the surf, never will forget meeting him that day
An all time great and by far my favorite rider. Jeremy has talent that most only dream of. Very humble and down to earth, especially for a person that has been so successful.
Well deserved! Thanks for all the fantastic memories J! You were great to watch!
Jeremy is the man. He has always been my favorite rider for sure.
He gave my brother his jersey in 98 signed in and everything my brother he had cancer but he still rode Jeremy was awesome spent time w my brother...he is the king of supercross and the best ever Showtime
I am 45 years old and I grew up watching Jeremy McGrath dominate the world of supercross. Though there have been many others through the years, but at the time of my generation McGrath was the man to beat and nobody could beat him. And I believe he is still the winningest supercross Rider ever...and I love seeing videos like this. I have much love and respect for Jeremy McGrath. He's a California boy heck I am still in lake Elsinore California, McGrath used to live in canyon lake or Menifee? Not sure where he resides nowadays, but yeah good dude 👍👍👍
This guy has always been my hero in moto. I emulated him on my dirt bike especially is Rudy style
Thank you Jeremy McGrath "showtime" you will never know how much you played a part in carving out how I grew up in the '90s from watching the crusty videos. the wild lifestyle of fast boats, cars hot women and having fun and of course the nac nac to watching you win!! you're the King of Supercross and the Greatest
Everyone that loves riding motorcycles should see this.
There are few people that I respect more than Jeremy McGrath.
I was born in 1999 and at age 6 I was obsessed with supercross and dritbikes and Jeremy McGrath was the guy I watched and always wanted him to win...I'll never forget I got to see him win in my home town Detroit it was in 1997 at the Pontiac Silverdome
To be humble in the face of greatness is more inspiring then being the greatest. TY JM!!!!!
The greatest icon in dirtbike history. If you look at moto gp, F1, basketball, football (soccer for usa) for example, you don't necessarily need to have the most titles, most world championships, most records or most accolades to be considered the greatest ever or greatest icon. MC did what Jordan did, put the sport to a whole new level of popularity and greatness, made the sport even more interesting and classy, been the most copied and followed especially after being retired. People wanted to ride and dress like the MC, same happened with Jordan. An icon's style is timeless. MJ had (and still has) the best looking and most iconic sneakers, MC had (and still has) the best looking and most iconic helmets, same with their videos. MC the King of SX, simply the King of Dirtbike.
Congratulations on everything you’ve accomplished and your The True KING AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE MEMORIES AND AUTOGRAPHS I STILL HAVE PICTURES FROM 92 -2018 And You’ve Always Been A King On And Off The Bike I’ll never forget seeing you and getting to meet you at ATLANTA SUPERCROSS #JeremyMcgrath
I got his autograph 3 times as a kid my favorite to this day
Totally baddass! The first one I saw I still remember. It was 1974-75. Unreal in it’s day. That’s some amazing riding skill right there!
Watched him his whole career he was the Goat
I was fortunate enough to get into racing at the end of 1993 when I was 23. I started watching the SX races in '94 (back when we'd have to wait over 2 months for them to be televised, lol) and was just amazed at how effortlessly MC seemed to float around those difficult tracks. I went to my first SX in '95 at the Seattle Kingdome, and seeing a SX track in real life mesmerized me. I probably stood staring for a good 10 minutes without moving. Seeing Jeremy in person (and the other racers) was pretty exciting. I went again in '96, and then moved to SoCal to start my civilian firefighting career, AND I had chosen SoCal because, if you rode and raced, that was the place to be! I just did local races, but I got to hit all of the SX and MX races down there, so I was following MC's career very closely. In '98 I finally had a chance to meet him at the Chaparral Open House before the opener at the LA Coliseum. Totally humble and a nice guy. I even said something like "you really need to get your championship back this year" and he replied with "I've been training my butt off to do just that. Are you going to the race?" to which I said, yeah, I'll absolutely be there. I was stoked to be at those races until the end, when he retired after getting hurt on the KTM. Living in SoCal and riding at Perris, or Glen Helen, or Elsinore, you get used to seeing the top pros at them during the week, but I still always got excited when I knew Jeremy was at the track that I showed up to on a particular day. I couldn't wait to get out on the track and try to race with him, which usually lasted for maybe two corners, lol. I came into the sport as a spectator at exactly the right time, and feel very fortunate that I saw the best Supercross racer of all time. Thanks for the memories, MC
Mc will forever be an icon in the sport.
Dang the more and more I hear about him litterally helping people out always
Really nice documentary on MC. I watched his success from a distance, usually recorded races that showed in the middle of the night on cable. Never had any idea what a down to earth guy he is. Thanks.
Tom White, like you Jody was a legend for the sport. Thank you for the 38th!
Tremendous video about a tremendous individual who changed our sport. Bravo to both
He needs a full documentary... But thanks for this one
Jeremy is truly as down to earth as described in this video! What an awesome champion!
Congratulations, Mr. McGrath!!
Minneapolis 98', got a photo of him and myself after the race. Drunks all around, screamin and yellin, a lot of chaos, and he and Button were so cool. Took the time to make it to every fan there. Can't touch 72 ever! But his fan interaction is unmatched..
Jeremy put Supercross on the map. Legend!
Absolutely an amazing rider just a excellent era of motocross and Supercross definitely the king !! so many fond memories of watching racing with my cousins and uncles. We all gather around the TV rooting for Jeremy McGrath to win just watching the style the smoothness the pin point landings and just the way the bike was put on point lap after lap after lap was amazing definitely inspired all of us to get on our dirt bikes and ride and improve and just try to get better and do things right so much fun. I’m not a big autograph guy, but I met him at Redbud at 97 and he signed my fox hat. I still have it to this day. It’s about the only autograph I have, but I’ll never get rid of it. Showtime!!!!!
Thanks Jeremy for all you've done for the sport! It was such a pleasure to watch you ride you are the fastest thing on two wheels.
Awesome, he is a great guy and so relatable, his style helped me improve my riding, 2 wheels always!
The king and goat of supercross love from the uk
Very proud of Jeremy. It’s crazy how Art Eckman’s voice still gives me goosebumps. Those were the days.
Him & RC in my era defined motocross & coolness.
GOATS FOREVER 🦾✨🤘🏻
Class act through and through , well deserved !
Jeremy is a legend thanks 🙏🏻 great video
Great Documentary on one of the best motocross riders ever
I'll never forget Anaheim in 95, that stadium was rocking.
The King 👑
I have a cool pic i blew up and had him sign it,and its one of my most cherished possesions simply bc his influence on me as a racer and a person. Love ya M.C your still the best in my book
Absolutely Great video👍👍👍
Awesome video,
Thanks Jeremy, you definitely inspired me watching you back in my younger years, still have my 1998 YZ 250 made chaparral replica.
We ran into MC at Cahuilla Creek about a year ago. My son and I were on a trip down to California from Alberta with our dirt bikes and we rode a bunch of tracks. MC was there spinning some laps. Had a chance to meet him and talk a bit, super chill, down to earth regular guy. And he can still shred lol. There is not a more fan-friendly sport than MX and I love it for that.
25 min is not enough man but thanks for this amazing video.
Un grandissimo pilota saluti dalla Sardegna
SHOWTIME FOR EVER THE GOAT
what I win
@Billypery hello what did I win
Matthes said it best... Jeremy was always the coolest guy and nobody has beef with him .
Well done y'all!
Jeremj numero one
I have fond memories of watching him and that dang blue Chapparel Yamaha just annihilating everyone weekend and week out. I bought his PlayStation game and played that thing for hours and hours. He definitely deserves all the accolades. Kudos, Jeremy.
I really like it when the nice guys do well.
Big dreams, big goals, big races, big wins, big achievements and big contribution to the sport. Yes, you crash and burn but that's what's it all about to reach the apex of anyones career and show anyone and everyone that you can do it. And so to Jeremy "Showtime" Mc Grath, a BIG congratulations........
Love Jeremy I was 98 all my years racing (badly but racing😂) from 16 to my 30s
And the way you treated people will keep you forever..
Carry on legend
This guy was a bad man!!!
Jeremy sounds like a great guy , I've never met him but he sounds like the Marty Smith of the 90's era of motocross.
Nice job kidowhat fun we had
Happy Memorial Day to you and your family King Jeremy McGrath! You've upheld the American Dream and your Supercross record is unbreakable. I had this feeling if Eli would have carried his momentum and wrapped up the SX title a few weeks ago... that he could have taken that outdoors... and perhaps 2 more seasons he could have come up with 21 more wins. But 2 of those were supposed to have been this season... even then... it was a longshot. If Chase gets it together, he should stop Jett from realizing 72 wins. Only other guy alive racing expert or pro that might stand the chance to pull it off... Danger... Thanks for the great racing and good vibes King Jeremy!✌😎🏁
Wow what a great video sure bummed I missed the Glen Helen race but believe it or not while you were racing Glen Helen I was across the mountain top riding my 125 built pit bike through the mountains up through lytle Creek area and then I made it all the way up to highway 138 lots of riding there... LoL
Seen him ride at the last race in the Seattle King Dome, it was awesome!
The man!
Jeremy McGrath, Ayrton Senna, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, Bruce Lee, Michael Phelps and Lio Messi. All GOATs🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They should make a movie of his life that would be cool
He is a solid dude!
Great job on this video. So badass
I love comparing the sponsorships on the memorabilia of McGrath or a more recent champion
Thank you. Showtime
This dude got me into racing, even though I never reached the pinnacle like Mc ? I have years and years of amazing memories that cant ever be removed from my hardrive... You tend to forget about the injuries that pile up and Dr. bills , lost sleep by your loved ones worrying about ya . I dont ever think of the bad times , I only think of the amazing times . In retrospect ? his mindset rubbed off on a South Carolina kid that became the baddest dude in his town on a dirtbike . won some Amateur nationals at Muddy Creek , went to tha Lorretta's 3 times and finished in the top 10 once , His persona had to rub off.... Small town kid that actually thought he could become the King ?? Yea, Mc definitely left an impression... Nothing but love and respect here , You were and STILL are my biggest role model..
Absolute Legend.
I remember watching McGrath growing up & i had poster's of McGrath, fast Eddie warren. How consistent was McGrath hit everything perfect!
I watched a McGrath when I was growing up at around 10. Never had money for dirtbike‘s or anything like that and didn’t realize who it was going up and down the road behind his shop at my grandma‘s house when I was growing up.. but I used to watch him do wheelies up and down the road on his 93 CR 250 with number 15 on it! So cool .. The memory is still vivid to this day.
I met Jeremy at the Pontiac Silverdome
Saw him at the old Tampa stadium one time new he was going to make the big time
