Bridge of Sighs is one of the 10 greatest rock albums of all time. There's not a single bad or throw away song on the entire thing. Largely overlooked and definitely underrated.
Robin Trower is a genius, but vocalist James Dewar is on an equal footing with his own genius. In my opinion (and many, many others') Jimmy Dewar was the finest blue-eyed soul/white blues singer in British history. Rest In Power Jimmy!
YES ! ! ! That's James Dewar (RIP) On bass & vocals. "Bridge of Sighs" is one of my desert island albums. Start to Finish - one of the best! Classic - Iconic - Unique ENJOY ! ! !
Thank you for pointing that out. Beat me to it. Dewar is the most overlooked and unknown rock vocalist out there. It's freakin' criminal. He sounds a lot like Paul Rogers but next level soulful. And Rogers himself was super soulful.
Trower's is a genius. Side note: You guys did a reaction to Whiter Shade of Pale a while back. Trower was a member of Procol Harum before he formed this power trio.
Trower was gone by the time of Whiter Shade of Pale (as you probably knoww), but I'll bring up another more distant connection... when Jordan recently asked for songs with more cowbell (!) I suggested Procol Harum's "Whiskey Train". Which has so much cowbelll it's overwhelming. BUT also is some of the most burning Trower of anything he did with Procol Harum. So I'm using your comment as an excuse to bring it up again!
@@wagstaff6135 Trower joined immediately after the original version of Whiter Shade of Pale was recorded and released, but had been gone for decades before the live version everyone reacts to. So you were either right or wrong, I just don't know which version you were referring to. Also, good suggestion.
When this came out in '74 Jimi had already been gone for a few years, and SRV was still several years away, but here was Robin Trower filling that Guitar God gap. You guys get it, when the guitar sings, close your eyes and let the music take you away! Peace!
That’s exactly the song I came down into the comments to request.. also, “Little Bit Of Sympathy” would be a good follow up to “Too Rolling Stoned”. Rob is gonna be BLOWN AWAY once he gets around to hearing that!
This entire album is a MUST have for any serious fan of bluesy rock. Another guitar God I think y'all would enjoy is Jeff Beck. "Freeway Jam" and "She's A Woman" are good places to start with Beck.
Kudos to you guys for selecting Robin Trower for a reaction. He’s a superb guitarist, and Bridge Of Sighs is his best known song. Absolutely love it. ❤️✌🏼😎
Robin Trower - Guitar, James Dewar (RiP) - Bass and Vocals, Reg Isidore - Drums. A classic, the whole album, pick a song, any song! Every song is a killer! Cheers!
To us old folks, it's weird you happened to hear SRV first.... Trower was well established before SRV came on the scene. You should do "For Earth Below" -- it's instrumental, but another absolutely exquisite, slow griding magic spell of guitar. Others have suggested "Too Rolling Stoned" and "Day of The Eagle" -- show you a more lit side, if you'd rather. Can't go wrong with any of the suggestions in these comments.
@@VinE83656 Well done. I knew as soon as you said, LOL. But I was thinking of the slow-grind instrumental sections (Like with Bridge of Sighs, also not instrumental, LOL) and just typing semi-consciously I guess!
Was never really a commercial success but those who were really into music knew all about Robin Trower. Amazing that such music came from a trio. Put me down for Day of the Eagle for another side of experiencing Robin Trower.
Robin "Trower Power" is so underrated even though he's still cranking hard today in his 70s. He doesn't sing on this album except for some backing vocals; the heavy lifting was his bassist, James Dewar (RIP). His catalog is large and excellent, so be sure to go back to it often.
OMG! great reaction! so that means you must do one on "Too Rollin stoned" or "Day of the eagle" Robin Trower is one of my favorite guitarist and a little under rated, I think you'll enjoy his music. Peace!
Trower is so soulful! Have seen him live, twice: mesmerizing. Master of the note: can bend/milk a single note for all it's worth :) Definitely in the SRV/Hendrix/etc. blues rock vein. Lots more great songs by Trower. "Trower Live" is a must. Enjoy...
Glad you finally got to Robin Trower. You picked one of the best songs in his considerable catalog. And the awesome vocals of James Dewar (Bass player) complimented Robins guitar beyond compare. You really liked the vibe of this tune. Now dig up Stevie Ray Vaughan's 'Riviera Paradise'. It's this vibe plus ten.

True, they would never see the sky again, would die in a cell. Half way across they would stop to look out the small opening which why the wind sound is in the recording. Saw this performed in concert in NYC, Robin & his band were outrageous.
The carvings on the bridge depicts death. Was there on leave in 1983. The tribunal area has multiple instruments of torture. It’s damp to your core. Truly has the aura of despair.
I saw Robin Trower at the same place I saw Joe Walsh, Mountain, and Fog Hat. I would be leaning on the stage or in the second row of every concert. No body guards or barriers in front of the stage back in the day.

I've made it a habit now taking a little time after work and watching your videos. Being born in 1960 I've had the opportunity to enjoy all these songs over the decades. Keep doing what your doing so ppl.my age can reminisce as you discover.
Robin came after Jimi but established himself before SRV. Robin is also a blues based player, but way more psychedelic. Voted guitarist of the year 1974. "Day of the Eagle" and "Too Rolling Stoned"... ya gotta do it.
I am a huge Trower fan. Was lucky enough to see them live. That whole album is really good. If you want to try some other Trower, For Earth Below, Somebody's Calling, Road to Freedom, Long Misty Days. He has a lot of really cool songs. If you want more up tempo, try Messin the Blues or Too Rolling Stoned.
Have seen them live many times as well. Long Misty Days and Daydream are 2 of my favs. Playing in smaller venues--much more visceral experience as well. Jimmy Dewar's voice--oh, my.
The Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino was not a big place. That's were I went to most of the concerts for 4 years. Robin Trower was there all 4 years. Trower was the 1st concert I ever went to. The opening act was a band we didn't know and only a few others did. That band was Fleetwood Mac. Little did we know that they were about to become huge.
It’s completely badass y’all saw em live. I was just a small hippy Hendrix fan kid in the 70’s and I didn’t know his name, but was one of my favorites when all the older heads would play his jams. Everyone had badass muscle cars and Harleys, and everywhere I went it smelled like weed. All the girls who babysat me had feathered hair and blue eyeshadow and were really into Heart and Fleetwood Mac. I was the kid who was watching Kung Fu, The HULK, and The Six Million Dollar Man and I loved KISS and all the heavy jams I knew.. raised on Beatles and Stones. I had to be quiet.. cause all the older heads would clown me if I talked too much. But I was takin’ notes.. and shit was intense, but our parents didn’t have a clue. I was cool though, I never told em nothing, cause I was running my own game and sneaking weed from my big brothers stash.. but not enough he could notice. I saw a cool ass biker couple come into the little burger place at the lake on a summer day in about ‘78. They drank a bunch of beer and jammed the jukebox.. they even drunk-danced together to Rossington-Collins “Don’t Misunderstand Me”.. and I had a feeling she was gonna get pregnant tonight for sure. I just knew it.. I could tell.
I’m listening to all these songs now that Denwood listed.. I gotta get some more Trower on vinyl, cause my daughter really digs em. All these songs are badass! He gets a really mello groove going, it’s hypnotic. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that even though I never got to see Robin Trower live, I was lucky enough to see SRV at a Blues Fest in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I was pretty drunk and we had some really good hash before the show, then we got up front row cause we were there really early and I think SRV only had his first single getting airplay at the time, so nobody really knew who he was yet, except my buddy who had caught him in Texas the year before. It an amazing show, and I feel totally lucky for having been there.
Robin Trower - an underrated but great guitarist! A good choice! Robin, like Jeff Beck, would play in with various artists to provide his guitar sound.
I looked up what Robin said about this song and love it even more now.... This was inspired by the famous Ponte de Sospiri bridge in Venice, also known as the "Bridge of Sighs." The bridge got its name in the 17th century, when prisoners who passed through it on their way to the prison cells on the other side would most likely see the beautiful sight of the lagoon and the island of San Giorgio and freedom for the last time. Trower explained: "The funny thing about the title song is that I had the opening guitar riff for about six months before I could come up with the turnaround section. I loved that opening lick so much. I was determined to make the second half just as perfect. So I waited and waited... and then it came to me. The band played it for the first time at Winterland in San Francisco and we received something like a 10 minute standing ovation. It obviously had magic."
The entire Bridge of Sighs album was fantastic. We used to call this narcotic music because it made us feel like our head rolled off our shoulders and across the floor.
I was lucky enough to see him live at the House of Blues in San Diego. He was well into his 70's if not older and he could still bring it HARD! Guy is amazing!
One of my favorite albums. I picture drooping guitar strings when I hear this song. Little Bit of Sympathy is my favorite track from this album. More of a straightforward rock track.
Killer jam! Amber said, "I could get lost in that guitar." Exactly! I was privileged to see this line-up perform this in '74. An all time favorite, great job, Rob & Amber.
LOVE Robin Trower. The whole album is great. When I was young I would turn off the lights, burn some candles, have a drink, and just chill out listening to him.
And now you have to react to Robin Trower Too Rlling Stoned. Completely different beat with brilliant guitar playing and drums and then it segues into an impromtu jam. Legendary.
LOVING THIS SINCE HIGH SCHOOL! I'm 62 now and this is one of my favorite songs, Albums ever! Love To Rolling Stoned too! Been a long time crossing bridge of sighs; brings back some awesome memories! 👌💜
If you two could of only been around in the seventies and experienced trowers guitaring in context with what else was out there im sure you both would been fans for life like me at the age of 65, love your reactions👍.
There's another good song by Trower called "Day Of The Eagle", also, I don"t know if you've done this one or not, it's called "Too Rolling Stoned". Robin Trower is the name of the guitarist, I'm sorry, but I don't know the name of the singer.
One hundred years from now people will be listening to this song. The horse album is fantastic, but this song is utterly timeless. It is the perfect groove.
Hey y’all, it’s been a year time for another reaction to Robin Trower (yes - rhymes with Power)… you’ve got to do Too Rolling Stoned. It’s on the Bridge of Sighs album… Guaranteed y’all won’t be disappointed!!!!
This one my favorite songs and artist. This song and maybe Allman Bros "Whipping Post" let me feel past pain with the hope of better times! Thanks for sharing you two and stay happy!!
Actually Robin predates SRV by over a decade and Gilmour has cited Trower as an influence. Robin’s work with Procol Harem is much more than Whiter Shade of Pale. Whiskey Train and Broken Barricades for example. Hendrix was a fan of Trower’s playing.
One of my all time favorite albums. There is a Bridge of Sighs in Venice that connects the palace where trials took place to the prison. It was supposedly given that name because the condemned (you left that prison in a box) were said to sigh at their last view of the world.
The Bridge of Sighs is in Venice, Italy, and it is the small enclosed bridge that condemned prisoners walked over, to their execution. Look it up to see the picture, and think about “been a long time crossing the bridge of sighs”. I love to see you two discover the music that has meant so much to me.
Back in the 70s Robin was packing stadiums! He is often unfairly compared with Hendrix, and whilst he sure owes a debt to the great man, Robin was significantly different in many respects and certainly had his own style. Finally, Robin is considered to have one of the all time great sounds, just like butter!
Robin Trower (rimes with tower) definitely has a SRV sound, like Amber said, it’s the bluesy/rock sound, aka Jimi Hendrix. Robin Trower was before SRV, but it’s that soulful blues/rock sound that gets to me also. There’s another artist to check out if your liking the Trower/SRV/Hendrix sound, Kenny Wayne Sheppard is a phenomenal guitarist and his blues/rock will blow you away. Kenny Wayne Sheppard’s father was involved with SRV and KWS used to hang around backstage with his dad and SRV so he got introduced to SRV’s genius at an early age. Some great Kenny Wayne Sheppard songs to check out are: Deja Voodoo Blue On Black Slow Ride Alive Tru Lies These are a few of KWS’s great songs to check out, there are many more. By the way, if you couldn’t tell I’m a huge KWS fan. Stay cool 😎 and… \m/ Stay Metal \m/
This song is a trip if you're not high it will make you feel like you are amazing piece of music you got three guitarist with the same stylings Jimi Hendrix Robin Trower & S RV
I remember the very first time we ever heard Robin Trower. We were driving down the street, & this song came on the radio. We were in SHOCK! lol Having missed his name, we truly thought this was a long lost Jimi Hendrex song perhaps, being released after he had passed just 4 years earlier! This is the BEST ALBUM! Truly, you HAVE to listen to really upbeat rock songs on this album. "The Fool & Me" "Day Of The Eagle" "Little Bit of Sympathy" you will LOVE them :)
He started with Procol Harem, then went on the form the Robin Trower Band. Thought it got blocked at first, glad to see it was just taken down for editing.
Haha, you guys were power grooving! Hahaha, your girl looks stoned on marshmallow angel wings! This is great. I need to do a bong hit and blast this song, parked at a beach, the gliding in to the music, the moon melted on one side being sexed clawed by clouds of cotton candy. (How was my Tom Waits imitation?)
If you love this you will love Jeff Healey "As the years go passing by".. Stuttgart Jazz Festival 3-28-1995. He passed way to soon... He was a blind Artist...
Yes Trower!!! You MUST listen to the entire Bridge of Sighs album you won't be disappointed. For Amber to get lost & sway listen to In This Place from the same album. Thanks for making my day!
The first few notes brought back a flood of memories of the first time my friends and I listened to this album side to side, front to back. Thanks to whoever requested this.
I've seen Robin Trower 3 times. Once in the 70's in San Diego with this line-up before James Dewar passed. Then in the mid-90's at a small club in Seattle called Parker's. Actually met him and spoke for a few minutes with him during a break between sets. Known for his face-bending expressions when playing. A White-Hendrix. Other great songs are " Day of The Eagle" and "Lady Love" as well as "Too Rolling Stoned".
Not as commonly mentioned, but one of my favorites is Bluebird off of "In City Dreams". Other favorites of mine are Caledonia, Too Rolling Stoned, and Day of the Eagle to just name a few.
Robin Trower has been a fave since the mid 70's.I first saw him at the S.M. Civic and to this day is still playing shows he's near 80yrs old and plays just as clean and truthfully better than ever....next song In this Place is as beautiful...get on RUclips and see his live shows....good to see people love the blues!!!!
One of rock's all time classic albums. Robin Trower is a master of tone and vibrato, one of the all time great guitarists. James Dewar (bass and vocals) was highly underrated, he was (R.I.P.) one of the best blues/rock lead singers. Highly suggest you do "Too Rolling Stoned" off this same album.
I saw Robin Trower In Chicago at Park West back in 1982. I sat 2 tables away from the stage. I was so amazed . So smooth on the guitar A concert I will always remember
One of my all time favorite albums! Certainly one of the most popular blues rock albums ever. I recommend you listen to "Too Rolling Stoned" from this same album. BTW The vocals are by the late great bassist James Dewar.
Yeah, there's a Bridge of Sighs (Ponte de i sospiri) in Venice, Italy. There's also a Bridge of Sighs in Oxford University, Oxford, England. Both have appeared in a lot of movies and TV shows.
Been to the one in Venice. I crossed it. Back in the old days, if you crossed it, it was for the last time. Because you were being executed! That is why it was called the Bridge of Sighs. That is what we were told anyway.
LOVE Robin Trower--get to see him live with nearly every tour since the 70s. Check out Long Misty days--song and album. Daydream is another beauty. Jimmy Dewar's voice--so soulful.

There's tons of great guitar work by Trower, and he always had his great bass player James DeWar's singing his ass off. A killer rabbit hole of soul and blues!!!
Saw his first gig with this band in the U.S. at Winterland in 74(?) In San Francisco. They were the opening act! We literally walked right up to the stage & leaned on it about 15 minutes before showtime. I was definitely blown away at what I saw. Jimi was back in a white man's body. Not one bad song on that whole first album.🤠

It did!
Stoner tunes, righr up there with Floyd.
This whole album is a guitar lover's wet dream. Plus, the vocals of Jimmy Dewar (R. I. P.), the best vocalist ever!
I was lucky enough to see him live at the House of Blues in San Diego. He was well into his 70's if not older and he could still bring it HARD! Guy is amazing!
Saw in San Francisco at Winterland? I was 15; in my 40s saw at Konocti Harbor; blew us away! I still.play this album and I'm 62 now! 😛👍
Saw Robin Trower live at the Glasgow Apollo in February 1980, which was a homecoming for bassist and vocalist Jimmy Dewar.
My first ever concert back in 1976!
And now you have to react to Robin Trower Too Rlling Stoned. Completely different beat with brilliant guitar playing and drums and then it segues into an impromtu jam. Legendary.
Always great to hear this, this time of year in Autumn, great Halloween song too
LOVING THIS SINCE HIGH SCHOOL!
Robin Trower is now 78 and still playing. I saw him in 1975 in Boston. Very under rated guitarist.
One hundred years from now people will be listening to this song. The horse album is fantastic, but this song is utterly timeless. It is the perfect groove.
Robin was the guitarist in Procol Harum
Hey y’all, it’s been a year time for another reaction to Robin Trower (yes - rhymes with Power)… you’ve got to do Too Rolling Stoned. It’s on the Bridge of Sighs album… Guaranteed y’all won’t be disappointed!!!!
He's not about riffs, he's about tone and atmosphere. And pretty good at both!
Trower,rhymes with hour.
Check out Too Rolling Stoned by Robin.
Soulful,funky,then pure British blues,superb.
This one my favorite songs and artist. This song and maybe Allman Bros "Whipping Post" let me feel past pain with the hope of better times! Thanks for sharing you two and stay happy!!
Have to listen to ...Too Rolling Stoned Robin will show you why him and Jimi Hendrix was jamming buddies...🤯🎸💪🔥 Epic
Yes, Robin’s got that mix of SRV and David Gilmore (of Pink Floyd) running through his veins. So bluesy. So dreamy. So good!
That's the sounds I was picking up on. If Stevie fronted Pink Floyd.
Actually Robin predates SRV by over a decade and Gilmour has cited Trower as an influence. Robin’s work with Procol Harem is much more than Whiter Shade of Pale. Whiskey Train and Broken Barricades for example. Hendrix was a fan of Trower’s playing.
@Lady Liberty 4 as I said too.
However all of these guys...
SRV, Jimi, Robin and Gilmore channeled and stood on the shoulders of Albert King.
We used to call him the White Jimi Hendrix. Listen to the entire album!
Some great Kenny Wayne Sheppard songs to check out are:
Deja Voodoo
Blue On Black
Slow Ride
Alive
Tru Lies
These are a few of KWS’s great songs to check out, there are many more. By the way, if you couldn’t tell I’m a huge KWS fan.
Stay cool 😎 and…
\m/ Stay Metal \m/
This song is a trip if you're not high it will make you feel like you are amazing piece of music you got three guitarist with the same stylings Jimi Hendrix Robin Trower & S RV
Can't believe no one mentioned Caledonia. That one is driven; a must listen!
I thought the exact same thing the first I heard him too.
@@arizrich I know, it was wild! He sounded so much like Hendrix! lol :)
“Little Bit Of Sympathy” is one of my favorite jams by Robin Trower.. along with “Too Rolling Stoned” and “Caledonia”.
That's what you call really rich soul! Tranced a whole generation and we loved it
He started with Procol Harem, then went on the form the Robin Trower Band.
Thought it got blocked at first, glad to see it was just taken down for editing.
Take a trip back to "Day of the Eagle" and let it play 'til I get "A Little bit of Sympathy".
NEVER EVER, IN MY WILDEST DREAMS, WOULD I HAVE GUESSED THAT ANY REACTOR WOULD DO ROBIN TROWER, BRIDGE OF SIGHS...Excellent followers you have...🤘
Great reaction, if you continue on with Robin Trower then "Day of the Eagle" is a must
This is the first time hearing for me but its going on my playlist.
THE FOOL AND ME or TOO ROLLING STONED are to perfect guitar bangers from Robin.
If you love this you will love Jeff Healey "As the years go passing by".. Stuttgart Jazz Festival 3-28-1995. He passed way to soon... He was a blind Artist...
The whole album is killer. A must listen to...
Love him. Fabulous voice and guitar player.
Yes Trower!!! You MUST listen to the entire Bridge of Sighs album you won't be disappointed. For Amber to get lost & sway listen to In This Place from the same album. Thanks for making my day!
Saw Trower in the 70's at that time in my
Life he took you to where you wanted to go🥴😮😉
The first few notes brought back a flood of memories of the first time my friends and I listened to this album side to side, front to back.
I grew up listening to Robin Trower, Sweet, Nazerith, and so many other GREAT 70'S BANDS. Music was GREAT in the 70's!!!
This song is heavy. Light as a feather, heavy as lead.
The whole album is off the charts!! Saw the band back in the day! BEYOND AWESOME!! You guys have graduated to real blues!! YAY!!!😉👍
Check out Trower's "Too Rolling Stoned" for a rock/blues sound and "In This Place" for a more mello/trippy vibe.
Omg you guys, NOW you're talking!!! I love me some Robin Trower Bridge of Sighs!!! Now try some Deep Purple - Lazy or maybe Change the World.
Robin Trowers album, Twice Removed From Yesterday is my all time favorite! Spellbound is an awesome song!
LOVE Robin Trower--get to see him live with nearly every tour since the 70s. Check out Long Misty days--song and album. Daydream is another beauty. Jimmy Dewar's voice--so soulful.
I am so glad you discovered longtime underrated guitar icon Robin Trower . His collaboration with the lat great James Dewar on vocals/bass soulful singing and deep lyrics on the first Trower albums are a treasure . Your reactions are genuine and entertaining and suprisingly eclectic keep up the diversity and open mindedness
All reps are spot on, if you grew up in the 70, s no album collection was complete without this. The kind of album you could just put on lay back, and light up,every song is good,
You need to hear the almost 10 minute version of this song at Rockpalast . It’s Robin Trower’s best live performance and one of the greatest live performances ever.
Hey J/A!!🖐🏾 You all were pronouncing his name right the first time, ☝🏾by the way, the lead singer is Jack Bruce Robin Trower is on guitar!!😏👌🏾
Saw him headlining a gig in with Montrose and Head East in '76 or thereabouts.
Omg. So jealous. What an amazing lineup.
Such a great pick!
There's tons of great guitar work by Trower, and he always had his great bass player James DeWar's singing his ass off. A killer rabbit hole of soul and blues!!!
Thanks for doing a video of my favorite artist of all time. I never have found any guitarist as soulful as Robin. So many great great songs.
I get so happy when I see you guys listening to things that I have loved for almost 50 years now. :)
The whole album is great.
