Robin Trower is legendary guitarist and a master of his craft, he's way up there with those, let's just say, who are spoken about more often in the music press; get well soon Robin. James Dewar was a wonderful vocalist, he had a voice that was not only powerful but one which also had a wonderful smooth soulful timbre to it, he sadly passed away in Scotland in 2002. Greetings ladies from the Scottish Highlands.🏴
Hey Ladies! Robin is a fantastic guitarist. Unfortunately he just canceled his tour due to health concerns. He needs surgery and hopes to be back on the road soon.🎸👍😎
This is literally blues with a historical bent. The Bridge of Sighs was from a prison (in Venice) in in olden times where the condemned crossed to be executed. Which explains many lyrics like "cold wind blows and gods looks down in anger on this poor child..." and "why so unforgiven, and why so cold? 'been a long time crossing Bridge of Sighs" Wonderful track. He has so many other great songs. Among the suggested would be, "Little Bit of Sympathy", "My Love", "Day of the Eagle". Have fun with this ride!
Robin Trower was the lead guitar for the band Procol Harem (A Whiter Shade Of Pale) In the 60's and early 70's. His style back then was called Psychedelic Blues
My favorite Robin Trower song has always been LONG MISTY DAYS followed closely by DAYDREAM. I was so happy when my Trower 8-Track came in the mail when I was kid. I remember it was a bright lime green cartridge 😂
I saw Robin Trower 3 times in the eighties. All the songs were great but Daydream was special….it took me to another place. And I glanced across the audience and looking at the faces it seemed I was not alone.
My older cooler sister & her friends would listen to this album when I was a younger teenager. I thought it sounded super cool and I figured I could probably play the drums to it , and i still have the record all these years later. And yes I still jam this when I’m feeling bluesy. Thanks for the memories ladies. 😁
Robin Trower.. 1st concert i went to . It was 1974. Because my cousin would stack records on the turn table we were not sure which one it was so we got really confused at the concert. There was supposed to be only one other band. The 1st one that played was really good. Then 2nd one and it was OK but then before the lights came back on all of a sound there was intense GUITAR!!! Robin Trower starting with In the "Day of the Eagle" It made the place come alive. . The other bands ... Ruby Starr opening and a band we never heard of called Fleetwood Mac. I would recommend ..."Little Bit Of Sympathy"
That entire album was a raging fire! 🔥 Do hear the original when you can, also the same album, Too Rolling Stoned, too! One of the great 70s groups and guitar players. James Dewar on vocal and bass shines as well. Great stuff, enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎶
Fun reaction. Robin Trower is a great guitarist, still playing and releasing albums today. James Dewar was the singer for Robin's band in this clip & through the 70's when they were big. I would recommend hearing some studio songs, since Trower's guitar sound is huge and rich, and Dewar's voice is very rich too. This clip is a bit thin and muddy. This album (Bridge of Signs) was popular, so try Day of Eagle, Too Rolling Stoned, and Bridge of Sighs (studio) from it. In This Place is a beautiful ballad from the same album.
I met Robin trower at the hotel where I was working he was doing his own laundry some 35+ years ago. The late great James dewar was the lead vocalist bass guitarist r.i.p.🙏 I sure miss his singing take y'all
I saw this tour in Toronto in 1976, James Dewar, the bassist here, is a great singer. Robin is a stellar guitarist very much inspired by Jimi Hendrix. I saw them the next year in Pontiac Michigan, James singing and playing percussion, a new bassist ex of Sly and the Family Stone, as was the drummer. This was their 2nd album. I love 'Day of the Eagle' from 'Bridge of Sighs', my first band also played 'Too Rolling Stoned.' From their first album I love 'Daydream', 'Hannah' and 'I Can't Stand It'. He also has one called 'Alethea', I named my daughter Alathea. From his Procol Harum days, I'd recommend 'Whiskey Train', not so typical of the band, but a cool, rockin', bluesy workout for Robin. Happy Birthday again to the young bug-eater. 😊❤😂🦐🍤
HAAAA!! Y'ALL Had Crawfish!! They get harvest from a Alpine Lake here. TOO ROLLING STONED the only other song I know from Robin. Great Job Ladies!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎

Yeah, Robin is the guitarist (so the band is named after him), James Dewar is the singer and bass player and in this version of the group, Reg Isidore is the drummer. As far as recommendations go, anything off this album (Bridge of Sighs) is awesome, including of course, this song, Day Of The Eagle, Too Rolling Stoned and Lady Love. The others are good too, as are song from other albums like Daydream.
Robin Trower was called the ''White Hendrix'' (which he hated; only one Jimi, as only one Robin). The bass player with one of the greatest voices EVER in rock music is the late James Dewar. Reg Isadore is the fantastic drummer.
I bought several of Robin's ( the lead guitarist) earlier albums as he sounded a bit like Hendrix. You might remember him from his days in Procul Harum with Whiter Shade of Pale.

Donna, I bet you were a blast in your stompin' days. Oh man, you ladies have fallen onto one of the most under rated and under appreciated guitarists ever. Robin Trower is an absolute master. His songs took you on journeys and always had soul. James Dewar played the bass and sang the vocals. James had one of the best voices rock n roll has ever heard. James vocals brought the same soul and Robin's guitar, together they were a perfect match. Robin did an album with the legendary bass player Jack Bruce of Cream fame. The album is called "Seven Moons" - there are several really good songs on it. Jack Bruce was one of the best bass players ever and he had a voice you knew by the first note he sang. He was simply on another level. He did some solo work that is some of the best in my library - damn he was good. Jack, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton made up Cream. Cream changed the rock n roll world and advanced guitar playing 10 years at least.
It would be awesome if the three of you watched some drumline battles, specifically the US armed forces. The Army v. Navy or the Army v. Air Force are two of my favorites. College battle of the bands are good as well.
Kathy, it's been a long time since I had a head of hair (Lulu would have loved me when I was around 17 or 18. Straight and parted down the middle. I had 18" cut off. You could polish a shoe off my head now.) BTW, Kathy, you are a lovely person. Let me know if you get a hankerin' for an older guy 😊.
The inspiration for this song is an actual bridge in Venice, Italy. There is quite a story to it that I encourage you to research. The lyrics will take on a more complete meaning in light of the bridge's story. Ponte dei Sospiri....The gods look down in anger on this poor child. Great choice for this guitar legend. You will hear people recommend the entire Bridge of Sighs album and I heartily agree! Limiting myself to one song- Too Rolling Stoned is probably my pick.
Actually, the inspiration you mention had nothing directly to do with the name of the tune. Robin has somewhere out there stated that he had the tune and words but NOT the title for the song. He said he got that from the name of a horse he saw featured on the front of a daily horseracing paper here in the UK called The Racing Post which some random guy was reading!!! I actually think the tune is the finest ever written in rock 'anthem' history: it can be played short/medium/long, slow or more upper tempo, loud , louder or subtle, aggressively or gently, allowing each note and the spaces to complete their cycle in the job of transporting the listener to some magical place. AWESOME.
@@forearthbelow Well, Robin would know obviously. Still, I certainly benefitted by learning a little Venetian history that I never would have been inspired to learn without listening to the album. I agree that the song is brilliant work from a brilliant talent.
