Thank you again Zack for coming out and giving 302 all the love. Hopefully this video helps push the idea that we really should be saving all of these Finals as humanly possible because they’re dying off faster and faster by the day. Soon, we wont have any left.
You guys should look for an automotive upholstery shop. Most cities have places that can repair tears in leather seats and replace damaged sections. They'd probably be able to save the embroidered section and replace the rest.
@@bwofficial1776 the hard part about doing that in the Final Aleros, is the leather is perforated in the middle sections. So in the correct shade of tan, its really hard to come by. Ive got friends with other Final Aleros that are battling the same fight. Its unfortunate.
Was this the one for sale in Gary Indiana
@@Moparornocar1989 no this one was in Sioux City Nebraska
save them like you saved the usean continent, mobius 1
Dylan and I rescued 302 back in July, we bought it for only $1,000. Multiple people in the group we posted it in initially said it was a parts car at best, that it wouldn't be worth the money invested. But what those people fail to realize is that we weren't in it to make a profit, we did it to give 302 a second chance. I'll never forget the hour and a half drive home with no front windows and no rear window, it was relief, and anticipation of what to come, I knew we had a winner. And wouldn't you know it, those same people are now complimenting 302 and telling us how great of a save it was. I bought my Final 500 Alero (pictured at 12:56 next to 302, number 447/500) almost a year ago and it's been one of the best experiences I've had with a car.
Together Dylan and I are trying are best to educate the world about these cars and why they're worth saving, we estimate that out of the 500 Aleros made, less then half still exist, here's hoping this video shows people how special they truly are.
@@VacuumsAndShampooerGuy Yep. Don't comment on YT too often.
I still think it is a shame Oldsmobile went under. Great review
I work at Toyota dealership in the Bay Area we have one here that looks in mint I know nothing about Oldsmobile but when I saw it I knew it had to one few because I’ve never seen one with such nicely taken care of paint.
My sisters first car was a red 2001 Alero. Was in immaculate shape and only had 30k miles, with the car being 20 years old at the time it was a real work of art. I mean this car didn’t have a single scratch, dent, scuff, anything. Looked like it got right off the dealer lot. I loved getting to drive it every now and then when I borrowed it when my 06 Tiburon GT gave out. Loved that Alero, sad Oldsmobile got the fate it had. Something about that car was just great. Comfortable and just a charming vehicle. Unfortunately the Alero’s steering went out due to a horribly rusted out undercarriage (common here in the Midwest). We sold it to a family friend recently but it’s back on the road and driving, they did some major repair work and got it driving. I frequently see it driving on my way to work. Love the Alero
Cool, RIP Oldsmobile 🥰🥰I always liked this brand of car.
Beautiful tribute to the brand. We had Oldsmobiles throughout my childhood. ❤
My 96-year-old neighbor has one too! It's a '99 coupe in black with 20,000 miles and she still loves to drive around in it!
For a 90s car the back is kinda attractive, I like how it all flows and the huge taillights.
Towards the end of high school and all throughout college, I drove a 2001 Alero that previously belonged to my grandmother. Overall not bad, but it had several quirks. The best part was low mileage, it had only 51,000 miles on it when my grandparents turned it over to us in 2013.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that likes the fail sound
I remember I used to love them. I loved the look of them and they looked so sporty and luxurious at the same time.
Nice 90s car, around 10 years ago these were common but I can’t remember the last time I saw one since 2017ish.
There was a special feel, in an Oldsmobile
One of the best cars for me to drive dude!
My grandpa's got one of these. Don't remember which number he has but I always thought it was cool.
I own a 2003 Alero coupe about to hit 200000 miles on the odometer soon
Great work bringing this car back! They are absolutely worth saving.
A guy in my town used to drive around in a Final 500 Aurora. Haven’t seen it for a while, though. It’s the only Final 500 car I’ve seen in person.
Hope to get the opportunity to pick one of these cars up, some day.
These are good cars, wishing I’d kept my 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora, there is an Aurora 500
I saw a Final 500 Bravada at Albertsons the other day and was overjoyed! It looked to be in pretty nice shape and the paint was OK. Very cool and we need more people to keep them on the road! If I could get my hands on the whole Final 500 Series, it would be the coolest thing ever! Also: CURSE WHOEVER STOLE THAT ALERO!!!
I have an 00 alero and I love it, 121k miles, and even got the 3.4 too!! Super comfy car as well
I’ve waited for this Video love the final Alero & intrigue my mom had a ‘03 Alero it was nice before it was totaled
I wish I had the failed bottle sound for my ring tone or message alert! I love that sound. 😁👍🏽
I’m Tom from New Jersey OCA member 4936, when you met mentioned Mr. Olds, his name is Ransom Eli not Eli Ransom.. on vacation a few years ago in North Carolina. I got to see one of the final 500 silhouette vans yeah I know they didn’t make 500 and the lady had no idea why I was making such a big deal about her van so I gave her my name and address and asked her anytime you want to sell it. I’ll be more than welcome to buy it, but I haven’t heard from her and I think it’s been three years now. I really thought that was great of you to go through all the trouble to save this car and bring it back. I’m sure some upholstery guy could do the seats the way you want and still retain the embroidery on the back of the seat love your video thank you.
I have a Alero 2.4 since 2000, and running every day, I am very happy with my nice car.
I know that Olds was around longer but I'm surprised GM gave Olds a going away party but they did nothing for Pontiac.
I had 2 Olds aleros through high school and college. They were fantastic cars and very easy to work on.
Those headlights are literally the model they use on newer UPS trucks now... Crazy
“There is a special feel in an Oldsmobile!”
Nice car and it's nice that someone's saving it. While GM didn't use the best materials, this era was probably one of their high points. Engines were pretty reliable and everything was durable if not the most premium feeling. It's got plenty of room and it looks very comfortable. It also has UPS truck headlights.
While it was sad to see GM's oldest brand die, GM had too many brands selling essentially the same car. They needed to slim down and the brand bought by old men would be the least missed.
One of the 2 Oldsmobiles that my dad owned was a 1987 Cutlass 2-door in gray that he bought in 1999 from an older friend of his, and it only had 33,000 miles on it (his old friend barely drove it). He drove it for 8 years until it broke down in 2007. True story.
Just bought my 2nd ever Olds, a minty 89 Delta, literally one owner grandpa kept
My family had a Oldsmobile toronado trofeo. It was fully loaded with the VIC Center. 80s gps was weird but cool. The car was all black. Reminded me of knight rider with the dash lit up
I wish Pontiac did a final sendoff like this when they left. The seats may have been slashed by the cops when it got searched and recovered.
This is one of very few GM cars I really liked. Very good looking design. I didn't know they had manual transmission option.
I love this video Zach, i wish you can make a video on the Chrysler New Yorker 1989, i really love you style of review and the 89 New Yorker is my dream car i would love to see it here.
Learned today, a buddy jas an Oldsmobile LSS. What I actually learned was the LSS was it's own model. I had no idea on that part
I was one of the many who, upon first seeing 302, thought it wasn't worth saving. As the progress was made, I started seeing the results and got excited about it. Seeing where it is now, I think 302 landed in the best hands possible!
Thank you!! 😊
Hey..iv driven that exact car before lol. Dylans a cool guy very informative on final 500 Oldsmobiles and Aleros
Such an underrated collectors edition car. Really heartbreaking it was vandalized.
I have my third Alero since 2002. This one is a 2003 GLS coupe with 23,455 miles.
This video was deep. Appreciate you
I wish at the time I had the money to keep my Alero running. I still miss it at times. It was beater, sure but I really enjoyed the car
I love your videos and I love the fail sound.😀
Costelllo
I love this video Zach, i wish you can make a video on the Chrysler New Yorker 1989, i really love you style of review and the 89 New Yorker is my dream car i would love to see it here.
Always liked the Alero. I just hated the cheap plastic they used for the dash. They seem to shrink and wrinkle over the years
In Europe they sold it as the Chevrolet Alero.
What you said at the end about loosing friends and family I can totally relate. My best friend passed away on this past Memorial Day he got hit by a car on his bike and then my older brother in September he was 37 so I def know what you mean
This video was really cool and im lucky i found an oldsmobile it's not the final 500 but it's a normal one but i found mine with 38k miles on and i have only put on 9k so far and it's a very great car i have plans for this car.
Now this is a car that I liked alot when I was learning to drive. We used to get these at the avis rent a car and I thought it was a cool car.
I paid $ 500 dollars for my 99 Alero GL. It only has today a 112, 150 miles. Owned by two elderly people. I absolutely love my car so spacious. Drives very well ..My baby is almost 25 years old in February.
I don't think Oldsmobile really failed, the Intrigue in particular was well received. The Bravada paved the way for later GM premium SUVs like the Denali, Escalade, and Enclave. GM just had too many brands to feed. Pontiac, Saturn, and Olds were all middle children that lacked a price premium (like GMC Denali and Cadillac) or a global audience (like Buick China). It kinda irks me that it gets lumped in with the likes of Eagle, Plymouth, or Mercury etc -- Oldsmobile had better products and a better reputation than either at the time of its passing.
I'm pretty sure the manual was 4-cyl only (and quite rare). V-6 was automatic only.
You are correct. :)
This may be morbid there is a special place in hell for whoever stole this and did that to the seats. My car was broken into a few months ago and although there was no permanent interior damage I really hate people who do this shit.
Loved my 2004 Alero, which I bought in 2006. It was a tank over the years. Minimal repairs in the power train. The only major repair was a blown gasket. I finally had to trade it in under the warning of my mechanic.
The shot of the crumbled leaf 😂
I hope gm watch this video and bring Oldsmobile back on the road I wish
Ha, what a memory. My gf during my senior year of high school (2012) had a final 500 Alero in silver, that thing was beat and that was 11 years ago. Leaked coolant, had dents all over, dash was peeling up, stereo gone, sunroof stuck open. I believe she finished it off a few years later
Final 500s only came in Dark Cherry lol
@@dylantran8492 Yes she had it repainted silver because they sanded down the dark cherry for whatever reason, when you opened the doors you could still see the original color (and under the hood). That poor car suffered immensely
Hey Zack thanks which model was the same as toyota corolla ? And which years do u know ?
The alero and the grand am is basically the same thing
We had both within our family. Styling-wise, they're extremely different. (We personally liked the looks & personality of the Alero far more.)
Please make a video on the 1989 Chrysler New yorker, I love the content.
Great video. Thanks much.
GM let Oldsmobile die with dignity, but not Pontiac.
Imagine a 5 speed with the 3400 or a 3800 SC with an automatic.
Loved the sporty one
You can take any Olds or Pontiac to any GM dealer today. They'll service them as long as they can find the parts. The Alero is pretty much the same car as the Buick Skylark of the same time so just take it to Buick.
There was no Buick Skylark or any Buick counterpart during the Alero's run. Its only direct platform cousin was the same-generation Grand Am. But as you said, most any GM brand dealer will service them.
Have you done a review on a 1999 Oldsmobile 88 50th anniversary edition yet?

as of Monday June 10th, 2024, Final 500 Alero #415 was sold on Bring a Trailer for $24,000. It has 84 miles on it. Will this sale help boost the Final Oldsmobiles' value as a collectable vehicle? I am intrigued to find out in the next few years or so.
Greetings from germany
Would love to see a sebring Convertible
from 99 to 03 sold as an Chevrolet Alero here in Germany.
i ha for an year an 99 2,4 with automatic transmission
I'm probably just not clear with what you're saying about keys during the trunk segment. But my 2002 Alero GLS sedan came new with two ignition-door-trunk keys and two fobs. (I think you may be saying that on this Alero, there's incidentally a separate key for the trunk.) Btw, we gave it to my father in law in 2012 - and 22 years on the road, it's still going.
302s owner here. The original key was long gone when I got the car. So i couldn’t lock the car because the replacement ignition key didn’t work in the doors. And the key fob was gone too. So i went to a GM dealer with the VIN and had a key cut so i could lock the car lol also got a fob and receiver from the junkyard so it has keyless entry again.
Wild this would be $40k with inflation.
I follow the owner on Instagram! Funny how it’s his car 😂
these cars often end up on Judge Judy.
Had a 2000 brand new GLS. Very good car except the front seats that were to hard on long trips.
Beautiful, timeless, modern to this day, and special and different from all the cars if today, Saturn and Olds shared the same grill. Saturn Alero.
Oh well
@@zythr9999 oh well what
@@redneon06 The discontinued makes.
@@zythr9999 unfortunately. I wanted more of both!
@@redneon06 I can actually understand that. Thank you.
My first car was a 1986 Oldsmobile Delta '88....I beat the crap out of it.
Do the Aurora!
I see a final 500 Aurora on my commute somewhat regularly in Northern California. I always wonder if the guy knows what he has..
Youd be shocked at the number of people who dont know or even care that these things are as special as they are. Hence why most of them were daily driven, wrecked and scrapped. Ive seen some really sad Finals in Junkyards. It breaks my heart every time.
@@dylantran8492 they really aren't worth anything
Olds rules.
The rot on the passenger side rocker is odd considering the drivers side rocker does not appear to have any.
The rockers are a bit bad on both sides but most of the rust is mainly contained to those parts. Its very savable.
Lol
The right side of cars tend to be more rotted out or damaged. The right side of the road is where all the debris, salt, whatever gets washed to.
@@wigletron2846 It's actually the left side because you get oncoming traffic throwing salt on your car. I live in one of the worst states for rust and the left is always worse than the right.
@@666cemetaryslut where I am it's always the right that's more rotted out, suspension more beat up, paint more chipped.
The badge spells out Oldsmobile if the line the letters up correctly. Try it Zach!
To this day I still don't know why they axed Pontiac and Olds but kept Buick
China now owns Buick
@@Jerry-ok8gjGM owns Buick but builds them in partnership with SAI Motors in Shanghai, China.
This is definitely a car.
Olds had some winning vehicles in their day and I personally think they usually had the best designs of the shared 80s platforms as well. Always looked more proportionate with better details creating a more subtle look. But seeing this Alero makes me cringe even now with it’s Fisher Price looking interior design and plastics. Even the ride height looks “ off” to me creating a cheaper look on a mid/ higher tier GM product. That said… nice video as always and look forward to what’s coming next.
You should start scoring the cars somehow. It would be interesting to see how they compare.
We already have Doug DeMuro doing that on his channel. Definitely don't need one RUclipsr copying another. Too much of that going on.
@@captainchaos0666 and we definately don't need another Doug Demuro style of scoring. "0-60 in 5.5 seconds it gets a 2 for acceleration."
My dad had a black 2003 model fully loaded he bought brand new. That car was a piece of crap he had for about 2 years and one day the car finally stranded him 3 hours into a golf trip. So he had enough of the car and junked it that wasn’t the only time it stranded him. But I will say GM seats are pretty nice and I can also remember the smell of the alero with the tan seats I do miss the old 2000’s cars but not this one.
I wanna see pontiac Aztec
I had a 2002 Alero. I gave that car so much hell, drove the wheels off of it. It had a few light issues and the engine would sometimes just shut off while going down the highway, lol. Other than that, I had it for about 5 years without any other problems. Definitely not a very good looking car this many years later.
Wow for a connector car especially they did not take care of that car. Looks like they left it outside year round
Had a Red 2004 Brand New -- Biggest POS with so many issues...good times LOL
11:33 bro started to get a little too real 😭
Would have been worth it to reupholster the seats
That’s alot of money I don’t have right now lol though my friend found another Final Alero in a junkyard and got me the seat skins from it. They’re not perfect, but they’re better than whats currently in it. They’ll be installed come springtime. Its a slow process, but the restoration is happening. Things just take time.
Owning one of the last Oldsmobiles is like owning the signed albums and memorabilia of an artist literally no one remembers, rare yes but no grandpa will pat you on the back for good taste. Not saying the car is bad, it's just a bit akward.
We don’t save these for the recognition, but because it’s the right thing to do. Yes most just disregard these as poverty spec cars or whatnot, but to people like me who see the cars true value, its literal automotive history. So that in itself is a reason to preserve these as much as possible.
@@dylantran8492 i understand you completely, liking cars that few respect. i am into land rovers so i get it. The point i’m trying to make is it’s sometimes hard to love them for the treasures they are
i really didnt give an f about this car. i was just sad it was the last of olds. now im not. i just wish it were more powerful.
Basically a grand prix
Grand Am*
These are N bodies (small car) GP's were W bodies (midsize)
