Ive been playing darts for 30 years..Anytime I speak to a nubie I always say a good throwing action starts with your feet and stance and balance is part of that as you will typically have 80+% of your weight on your front foot. My stance is pretty solid but newbies might find this usefull
Great to see you back playing Ben, watched you growing up and looked up to you as a young keeper... I'm a 28 year old dad for 4 now who's probably 28 stone overweight to go with it. All the best for the rest of the season
Another great tip edgar struggling with my balance after just having a knee op and being a young player (20), im finding a big difference already by just changing stance slightly, thankyou keep up the good work buddy
Totally agree that the back foot is just for stabilization. My mantra is the more one can minimize superfluous movement the more accurate one will be. I've demonstrated to many people that it's possible to actually hit the board with wrist action alone (to show that men don't have any advantages of strength over women). I wouldn't recommend to shoot that way but it shows that any body movement should be eliminated and the shot should be reduced to just the arm. This eliminates extra variables that can cause problems. Watch the best players and look at their heads. There's never any movement. They isolate their arms for the shot.
I've always had this problem I find myself lunging foward as long as I went forward I was ok but sometimes I would go sideways which was not ok. Anyway good tip
Great vid. I also think filming yourself can help loads. I realised what my dominant eye is and also how much I move my head back on throw. It's ok saying its your natural throw but make adjustments and you will improve
@@kevspencer5744 he definitely is... u see him bring the dart across his left eye first when he is drawing the dart... I too am right handed ,left eye dominant...I have a scar on my right eye, causing me to be left eye dominant
I definitely had a hard time getting my weight balanced. Both feet have been operated on, and they have arthritis and frozen joints. (I experimented till I didn't wobble anymore)
Great video! Also wearing no drop shoes instead of shoes with uneven cushion that wear out and give more variance in your game! I recommend Vivo barefoot shoes, I believe they look the best. This tip is crucial^ for the same consistent shoe every time you practice.
Late to the party but I didn't quite get what I have to do with these cushions. Find a way to stand on them first without falling off and then try to find a position that no longer wobbles?
Hi Mattiew, if I find a perfect balance stance position on these guys, should I copy that stance on the flat surface (floor) and that would be a perfect solid stance for my throws is that right? Thanks mate. 🎯🎯🎯😜
Once you got a good balance on uneven surface. Lift your arms as that changes the centre of mass. If still balance try applying a bit of force. If all is good then move to the flat surface
Hi Matt your vlogs have helped me greatly but I always worry about the age I started playing darts at 40 was is it too old or doesn't it really matter can you get to a good standard with practice if you have good hand eye co-ordination
I had back and knee problems when i lean forward. When i stand straid up without leaning its working better for (me). i think there are also PDC players had this problem ?
A bit of a lunger myself , not sure if this happened because it took years to get over severe Dartitis . But also tend to throw low on dart board also . Also Mathew i currently throw 23 g . Would a lighter or heavier dart help. Any tips greatly appreciated thanks .
Very interesting and informative video. I will definitely give them a go. My throw has been absolutely wrecked for about ten years from dartitis, and I genuinely think it's more of a balance issue now - I'm just used to throwing myself all over to compensate for trying to release the bloody dart! How long would you suggest using them per day to start to make a difference?
For balance just 5-10 minute exercises are fine. For using them as a throwing aid as suggested in this video it’s just to feel out what’s stable when the floor is it
Shut your eyes and throw your darts. Start from 3 feet and get your mind using to throwing free. Then just focus on hitting a part of the board, then each number. Its just lack of focus. Mind over matter. I went thru it myself.
@@gooddeedsbeatbad2625 worth a try! Thanks for that. I can never ever feel that the fluency will ever come back. I can be technically spot on but it just doesn't feel right. I'm envious of anyone who can just go to the board and throw

Just to make sure I got that right, you use the wobble thingy until you can throw darts on it without loosing balance and then do the same on the floor? Basicly, I could only use them for 5 minutes and not need them anymore or it could take ages.
Are we really not supposed to lean? It would not be possible to balance on those and lean. It would seem you are asking us to do something that no player does. What am I missing?

But can they walk. As an saq coach I notice around 9/10 people who walk and run incorrectly. Been able to walk doesn’t mean your doing it at the best of your body’s ability.
When I practised balance, well I still practise it, just not as much..... I do a Jethro Tull; Take the stance, then put your left foot on your right knee and throw. It's probably not as effective as those.....whatever they are called in english, but it worked for me. (Because I am a cripple of sorts, I've been practising balance for a long time with those things. It didn't have anything to do with darts at the time)
