  • It is very widely debated in regards to what sort of average is needed at different levels in the UK. We do have a development system in the UK and a clear progressive path. But how good do you need to be at each level ?

I've almost given up darts, we have 3 guys in our local bar league that average 30 or higher per dart in 01 games, made me think there was no chance. I've been playing a year now and I'm averaging 23-24 per dart. This video shows me we have 3 exceptional players and not to compare my darts to theirs. Thanks for the video

The pressure of just playing in front of people is a great leveller, it's crazy how nervous you can get just playing pub level darts. If you want to improve whatever level you are you have to play against the better players so if you are throwing 40 averages go to a pub team you'll steadily improve and progress up to super League.

Wow! Look at the 4:25 mark. The #14 player in Bedfordshire Super League was Martin Lukeman! He was 3rd best on his own team and averaging 75. It would be interesting to know what clicked with him that allowed him to raise his standard by 18 points or whatever. In fact, it would be fun if you did a "where did they come from" series. Everybody loves the Rob Cross story. So is Martin kind of the same thing? Are there a bunch more like them that something finally clicks and they take off? Love your vids.

    In 4th tier 51.72 won 68% of 240 singles
70+ was only averaged 10 times by a single player over 4 singles in a night

1 of those people was a former famous pro, and 2 others have played the circuit a bit

    • @LukePettit
      @LukePettit 2 года назад +1

@@snipermonkey8777 typically each player gets 1 singles 1 pairs and 1 team game. Best of 1.
      So your night is:
6-7pm get to the venue, practice with your mates
7-730 more practice with your mates while waiting for the opposition to arrive / get ready to go to the venue
800 both teams in the building
      830 match starts
singles round first to 1 leg
      random draw eg.
      1v3
      2v4
      3v1
      4v2
      5v6
      6v5
      pairs first to 1 leg
      1+2v1+2
      3+4v3+4
      4+5vs5+6
then maybe a 3/ss and / or 6/8s to finish.
      Leave around 11 o clock
You typically play 3/4 legs in 3 hours in most leagues so it's mainly drinking with mates with some darts in between.
If you can find a 4 a side league I would def recommend that cos then you play 4 singles 3 pairs and 1 4s so 8 legs in 3 hours.

How is a youngster averaging 55 going to develop if he gets smashed by players such as Keane Barry, Josh Rock and the like. The players like that have such an advantage. They can play on three tours and get more money on Dev tour than challenge tour players and pay less to play on it. the system needs tweeking. Maybe an idea for a new video from Matt.

good video, but id say a little genourous on the numbers, 35-45 average would compete in pub games, 50 would excell, 50 average is 30 darts 501, go watch some pub games your see the vast majority will go over 30 darts. i played super lge some 16 years ago, perhaps the standard has changed a little but i competed with a overall average of 20. so 60. my best was 23.8 but my worst was 17 or something i was all around the 20 mark per dart, i lost more then i won but i did compete and win some games. the players at the time that exelled were throwing 25+ very rarely you see a guy with a 30 average. ans was always told to be looked at for county you would need to be throwing 25+ consistantly but more importantly winning your games.

anyone who is scared to at least try should know what they are missing out on. nights with great guys and great gals all cheering you on. even if you are the worst player in the team you find out who 2nd worse is and chase him down and have that determination and then the next guy until your at a level thats your best, then nobody will annoy you cause you must be winning as your better than some, i was same within my pub and was told oh you are great you should go play super league but i waited to improve first i went from a 60.39 in pub as my best average then in super league i improved just over 10-13percent so i was now trying county darts and it was horrific watching guys i know not in ma team batter 180 after 180 cause they can and im usually a guy who wants to play best player in the room because thats the guy i will learn from my average which finished 7 legs against a new pdc card holder this year . he hit an 12 dart hold i was on 201 after 9 2nd leg i through first 60 then 125 then 85 131 he took out 94 on bull for a 12 darter he won again with a 15 and i was on 221 after 12. this leg was mine i started 140 121 100 81 to leave 60 after 12 he sored 59 136 119 97 left him a ton i think but the we spoiled it with me missing 2 darts at d16 for 22dart leg i bust score 2nd dart and he hit d1 with 3rd dart for a 24 or 27 dart leg. shocking last leg but i lost 4-1 and have had the best day ever, such a laugh

Its not how good you are in practice, its how good you are in a match! superleagues and counties differ in standard, hence why some counties are playing in division 4 and some are playing in division 1.

@misfit: Totally agree. Back into darts after 25 year absence & saddened to see most of the pubs i played in without a board or turned into restaurants or hairdressers! I found a convenient pub with a board but disappointed there was no team & whenever I popped in to chuck a few, very rarely did anyone take any interest or give me game. Strange considering how popular darts still seem to be on TV & social media

This may be a basic question, but how many darts in a leg count towards your average? I've seen different ways of counting it (1st nine darts, darts until score less than 100, all darts until checkout, etc). Just wondering which method they would be using in your examples. Thanks.

    • @JackT-ht2pg
      @JackT-ht2pg Год назад +2

So your average is just the points you scored divided by the amount of darts thrown. Here you can work out your 1 dart and 3 dart(times one dart by 3) average for anything, 1 leg 501, a whole match, first 9 darts, first 15 darts etc. Playing in a pub league you don't count averages, although you could keep tally yourself to track progress. In my local superleague they record match averages so you will see the score of a match and then the average that both scored for the entire match, literally it could be 3000 points scored divided by 250 darts thrown times 3 for example and there's your match 3 dart average, 3 dart averages are whats shown on TV for the pros. Some superleagues only show your 1 dart average. Superleagues will also keep a leaderboard of all the averages scored. So u will often hear such and such is 'top of the averages' which means they have had the best performance in that league that season up to now. You will often see ex pros and current pros at the top of leaderboards. Just go on different counties county darts websites and you can look at these boards and understand the averages better. Like Matt says here though they are a guide. In my pub league if you play a 65 average you will beat 95% of people. There are some superleague and County players who play for their pub and smash it every week. Playing pub darts is amazing whatever level you're at its a very respectful game you will never get laughed at or feel stupid

  • @pauloneill914

Can I ask why averages are much talked about. I gauge it on visits as opposed to scores. In addition to that I have played poorly (low average) and won and vice versa. Is it not about giving yourself a chance and then believing in yourself and taking that chance? I point out though that I only play pub leagues in a poor second division team but good third division team.

Bonjourno Matt. Bedroom average of 80 will not usually translate into a superleague average of 80. Very unlikely to translate Into 80 average for county. You need to find your levels organically by coming through the system. You'll need to acclimatise and adapt. Once you become comfortable at each level kick on to a higher level. Throwing in your bedroom practicing watching sky sports news is a different kettle of hot dogs to playing on stage isn't it? Also forget averages. Lakeside average was 79 wasn't it? Just win your game and forget the average . You'll win because you e put pressure on your opponent or hit your doubles and times your scoring and finishing. Who cares of you won with a 79 average or 93? He's sitting dow with an 88 average n and you're in the next round after a 79. People end up with worse averages because they are worried about their average lol then it costs them the game too. Ive been playing brilliantly in practice. 11 and 12 darters in practice , on return to match play I've felt tighter, however I've started focusing on mental techniques the last week or two for online games and the results have seen a significant improvement and consistency. It's not there yet but I've seen value in improving the mental game and the process has been validated. I'd love to see some videos on state of mind or overcoming pressure situations but then again if it helps players then maybe keep it to yourself lol. I also personally feel that a darts coach for people that can play is of less use than a sports psychologist or self improvement by studying sports psychology. I don't think the mental side of the game is given enough focus.

Most players aren't super consistent like the PDC players or people that have played league for 30 years. Bottom line, just get out there and learn. There's no replacement for experience and you can't buy it, you have to earn it. Pick the mind of the best players around and enjoy the journey.

London super League averages first week were poor. I was going to play London super League this season but it seems a bit of a closed shop . Having seen the averages I'm glad I never played . Also a lot less teams than there used to be and the general standard looks poor with just a couple of handfuls of proper super League players and averages. I might try and play Kent super League and see if that's less of a closed shop .

All best of 11 to best of 19 so longer format than county . I think I could play county A easy but as it's hard getting into the closed shop super League I've decided to play Vs Taylor and Deller and co next year.
