You fail to mention that under his rule the average Libyan enjoyed a very high standard of living. I myself witnessed a plane of Libyan patients arriving a Geneva airport for medical treatment in Switzerland.

He also wanted to drop the US dollar hegemony and trade in the gold backed dinar, which would have been bad for the US dollar....
