Scenes like this show why James Horner was such an incredible talent. A brutal, unpleasant scene made to really tug at the heartstrings but with any other music it would be too much to watch. I feel very lucky to have seen him - only 8 weeks before he died - as he made me the cinephile I am today through Titanic, Braveheart, Apollo 13 and Aliens. He is so missed.
The most important achievement of Braveheart was to remind the world that SCOTLAND is a country. SCOTLAND was a country long before England existed. The French Philosopher Voltaire said this "For all our ideas of civil satin we have to look to Scotland"
Agricola invaded the Caledonians in the 70s and 80s. There was a Roman victory at "Mons Graupius" which became the namesake of the Grampians. The Romans then received submission from local tribes, establishing their border of actual control along the Gask Ridge
This scene is epic. The English have caught William Wallace and have already chosen his fate. Hes going to die. So when he is taken out before the crowd he is humiliated and then began his torture. First he was hung and he refused to give in to the English man orchestrating his death. Then he is stretched and again he refuses to let them beat him. But this part when they began to cut him open while he was still alive brought tears to your eyes. He is given the chance to let it stop all he has to do is say the word Mercy. The crowd cheer him on to say it. Hamish and Steven are watching him and even they are praying he will say it watching this! But Wallace refuses to give in and when he does say a word it silences the crowd. He shouts with his last breath Freedom! It was so sad but a brilliant ending to a brilliant movie!

It's been 700 years (I Think) since the Battle of Bannockburn, a Major victory for the Scots in the First war of Scottish Independence, If this referendum is a success, Your doing your ancestors proud :) . If this referendum happened in their time, It's no question the vote would have passed.
I agree, but since that time there has been a degree of breeding into the Scots by English, this was a tactic used to infiltrate and divide the population, and although it doesn't mean that these people are no voters but that they have ties to other parts of the UK. We have the commemoration of the battle of Bannockburn running now and the commonwealth games coming up so hopefully this will add to that sense of Scottishness and pride.
Found out I have some Scottish blood. Makes me proud to have that in my ancestry. I already loved William Wallace. His legacy continues to appreciate with time. A man like that inspires people from any race who love freedom.
Yeah lol but even then you are not free and will never be free in the system we are in at this time. Lets just say you are not a slave that gets tortured by their bosses and forced them to hard labor. But you are more of what is called a modern capitalist slave in which you have to work 8-10 hours a day everyday just to get the small crumbs of money that your boss gives you after he gets the big money of your hard labor. In this you work really hard for just a little insignificant amount of money and in this you are exposed to being treated bad by your boss and other workers if a mistake occurred by you. So lets just say we will never truly be what is called "free" while living under a system and there being people getting more than others for less work when it shouldn't be like that and not to mention the millionaire individuals who make/rob a lot of money month while others barely make about 3,000-10,000 a year average. I would love to have a revolution against the people that have more and the injustice that we have everyday with the government nowadays. Not mentioning the secrets the government has that that they don't want us to know and all other secret projects being done right now. So lets enjoy the movie and believe we are free when in all reality we are far from being "free" my friend.
michell gomez No, I do have freedom, it is you that lacks freedom and it is why you are so angry at society. Freedom can not be taken from you. You choose to give it. Even with a gun pointed to your head, you have the freedom to do whatever. Yeah, you might die if you don't give up your freedom, but even then you do not have to give it up. That was the moral of the Braveheart story. William gave up his life before he gave his freedom. That said, you are a camel who's lion is building up within him. I say that metaphorically. You see, everyone is born a child. Perfect, pure. As a child grows into a teen the child begins to carry the burdens of society. The teen therefore is a beast of burden. A camel. One day, usually around the age of 17-23 that camel is called to adventure. He wonders out into the desert where he meets a dragon named Thou Shalt. On the scales of that dragon are all the things society says you need to do. "you need to have a job!" "you need to have stability!" "you need to go to college" "you need to have good credit!" "you need to have insurance!" "thou shalt" "thou shalt." It is your mission to kill that dragon. In doing so, you will become a lion, whose name is NO! and I WILL! If you do not, you will stay a camel the rest of your life. Now, you're probably thinking "god, this guy's a nut case!" Keep in mind, what I just said is a metaphor, it is not literal. It is very true though. Right now, you are upset because in order to fulfill all of societies "thou shalt" commands, you must give up your freedom. You must bow. But the lion is developing within you. A lion does not bow. A lion will starve before he bows. That dragon is society, and right now you're fighting it and losing. You're angry for the fact that society wants you to give up your freedom. Guess what, you don't have to! As William's father said "your heart is free, have the courage to follow it." Yes, I have a job. But I am no slave to it. I CHOOSE to work my job not because society wants me to, but because I want to build capital to start my business. It's MY choice. If I ever decided I didn't want my job, I would quit, regardless of the consequences. Believe it or not, I quit my last job with little money in the bank, with no notice to the employer and with no new job lined up, why? Because I was being under payed. Now I make more. Sure, I might go hungry, I might go homeless. But freedom is risky and requires courage. Like I said earlier, a lion will starve before he bows. In your case, you are also struggling to work up that courage. You are afraid to starve. Now, regarding your economic philosophy. Capitalism is great. Again, our system has only caused people to lose freedom because people have chosen to give it up. Nobody ever had to. That said, wage inequality does NOT equate to having less freedom. Your boss makes more than you because he is more skillful than you. The cost of labor is determined by supply and demand. The more people can do it and the less profitable the position is the less money it will pay and vise versa. How hard the job is is irrelevant. If you don't like what you make, you are free to find another job, but doing so may come with a risk. You need the courage to take that risk. If nobody is willing to pay you well, then you need to make yourself more profitable. Develop a skill.
richard mark Sure you are. You are free to do anything, but there could be consequences. If you don't want a job, to survive you must find a way to be self sufficient, or you'll die. But you can take that risk. You don't have to live, in fact, you're going to die at some point either way. Furthermore, you don't need money to live, money is an imaginary entity created by humans. You need food and water to live. The point however is that you don't have to do anything. People lose their freedom when they create imaginary boundaries that don't exist.
I have been in Scotland all my life now, It`s such a wonderful place, So much powerful history behind it!. This scene always makes me feel proud to live in Scotland. They say god bless america, I say god bless Scotland.

We have the commemoration of the battle of Bannockburn running now and the commonwealth games coming up so hopefully this will add to that sense of Scottishness and pride.
bigvalz iv got family in england but theres no way they would influnce my vote :)
Found out I have some Scottish blood. Makes me proud to have that in my ancestry. I already loved William Wallace. His legacy continues to appreciate with time. A man like that inspires people from any race who love freedom.
BraveHeart and The Patriot are the best films in the 21st century ever made both give me goosebumps and fill me with courage and pride for my country.

"FREEEEEDDDOOOOOOMM!!!!!!!!!!"

No, I do have freedom, it is you that lacks freedom and it is why you are so angry at society.
As William's father said "your heart is free, have the courage to follow it."
Yes, I have a job.

Free to find another job but not to do what you want if you don't want any job !
richard mark Sure you are.
Philos791 Woah you're like... whats his name? uhm.... oh yea now I remember C.S. Lewis you're like C.S lewis with all those metaphors man.
makes me wanna cry every single time!

caralho, que feels man. Que trilha, que grito. Que lindo!
To silence a crowd of people who hate you is a powerful thing. They were shocked how brave and how loud he spoke for him and his people to be free.
Grâce à ce film je me suis intéressée à l'histoire de l'écosse et de son peuple fier. J'ai visité ce magnifique pays en 2009...mon plus beau voyage.
Us Scots will always remember William Wallace as a hero and will live in our hearts forever
As a Scot this film is embarrassing
@@allthekingshorses7178 why?
@@moatezmoussi9751 probably the many inaccuracies of the film that portray William Wallace.

Wallace never wanted mercy - his mission here on earth required him to die without so-called "English Mercy" - May the Almighty Architect of the Universe help to free the Nation of Scotland from the yoke of Westmonster. Be a Nation again. Alba Go Brach. So Mote It Be.
You should be grateful England and Wales have freed you from Brussels.

markhorneyuk Maybe you should shut up and think! Think about how English and Welsh children are being denied further education Not FREE - paid for by taxes, prescriptions/personal care not FREE - paid for by National Insurance contributions. Scotland voted unanimously both to remain in Europe and to scrap Trident at a saving of £275,000,000,000 - and you still believe your way is right????
You poor deluded souls, you think you are subsidising Scotland. No no, you have paid your taxes and your National Insurance contributions, then you voted in a Tory government who stole the right to a National Health Servise from you and gave it to their sick capatalist supporters. Make no mistake about it my English Friend (I am married to an Englishwoman, my children are ,arrived to English people) You and your Countrymen should rise against the German Royal Family and your Masters in Westmonster.
"Married"
The irish dude closes his eyes and that´s the moment when you say "i´ll never see a movie like this, ever" FREEEEEEDOOOOOOMMMMM. Cheers from Argentina.
