Maybe it's a little harsh from you but i must say i always thought of Al as a virtuoso musician playing incredibly "hard" music to listen to. I just can't follow. The reason is what you described ... even though i can listen up to an hour of Coltrane Japan tour, and truly enjoy it and be inspired, i don't think i listened ever in my life more than one song of Al in one sitting. But then again, i value him even more because he has particular and distinctive sound and style. He's Al.
Sorry bit ruff I was, try older stuff like Mediterranean Sundance, Splendid Sundance and Dark Eye Tango by Al. I Agree this Piazzolla influenced style not so easy always 😀
