Had this one back in the day. The PC was just severely lacking in wrestling games and I was mainly a PC gamer. Definitely had more fun messing around with the entrances than in the actual matches.
I can concur wit hthe entrance customization of RAW. I made a character to the song the Philosopher by Death for my custom character, and to this day I feel that it is the best entrance I have ever made for the game. The red lihging, pyro that started right as the main riff of the song kicked in with a fog effect, I still think about it each time I go and create an entrance in any other wrestling game.
The games are so stiff, but their variety is really what makes them special. The best arena creator, the most weapons, the biggest roster, all with alt attires, for Raw 2. It's a shame the gameplay is painful

I remember Fred Durst playing this game as himself in a music video. That's the only memory I think about when WWF RAW comes up. I played it once and forgot about it. RAW 2 was much better. You did the best possible job covering this game. It was so minimal. They nailed the entrances and putting on a different hat thing, I wish more stuff like that was in current games. Create an Entrance on the Xbox RAW games was really incredible for the time. The amount of customization was inspired, not to mention you could add your own entrance music by burning a CD and adding them to the Xbox hard drive (you can do that in RAW 2, not sure about this one). Now that I've bring back my Xbox from the dead to play this long lost friend, I'm baffled at how we used to play it without raging at the screen, it just does not hold up anymore unfortunately. P.S: Ian just wanted to mention that if your Xbox is modded, make sure you update your Wrestlemania 21 since that game is filled with game breaking bugs and glitches without it.
I remember enjoying both this an Raw 2 as a kid. I particularly like Raw 2 with the a reeeally fun and ridiculous CO OP season mode. My uncle and I had a BLAST playing that together. I CANNOT wait for you to do a Retrospective on that one.😁

@@mistermann3225 I remember going to the game store for my birthday looking for WM 2000 & they were out of stock. I had to settle for attitude 😔😂 but best believe I made the absolute best out of that game.
@@MR.__G I was a PlayStation kid. My cousins however, had a Nintendo 64. We put hours into Attitude, even though I hated it. When Wrestlemania 2000 came out, it was like a godsend...lol. Absolutely love that game.
@@mistermann3225 wm 2000 was the first wwf game that was great ! All of us who played wcw revenge knew it was going to be great with the same gaming engine in place. I think smackdown dropped not too long after that. Smackdown was also pretty good. I was blown away the first time playing it as well
This was one of my most played game on back then, because it was the only wwe game available for PC at that time and me and my friend used to play many matches with each other using a single keyboard. Fun thing is I didn't even know how to do finisher in this game for years😅 and I still didn't mind, I used to create my character and play Exhibition match all day with it, since there is no career mode, and although this game didn't even have enough content but it was still my jam as a kid. still miss those days.
I was a ruthless aggression era kid, started watching in 05, around 08-09 I owned SVR 06 and Day of reckoning 2 but I always heard cool stuff about the attitude era so when I got Just Bring It I was addicted to it lol, I loved the backstage areas and roster. I remember how badass the cover art for Raw looked so I bought it but the gameplay sucked so bad lol
Great review for anyone unfamiliar with that era. I only played the XBox version with friends as I was always a Playstation guy but much like you I got a $5 copy for the PC. Unlike you however I had no issue getting a PC controller to work with the game & had no major input delay. Might have been a hardware issue? This game is gorgeous, I'm still waiting for another wrestling game to allow you to put on hats/glasses during a match! Attacking a guy like Rikishi during his entrance & putting on his glasses was so innovative
I remember watchmh the reveal to this and once I played it I was like omg😑 one thing I always loved is how you can attack opponents during their entrances! That feature alone was amazing man. #ThanksForWhatYouDo #WeAreTheDanDans #MuchLove #Retrospective
My brother had this game. Couldn't quite get to grips with it, much preferred the arcadey feel of the Smackdown games, though memory tells we had a good table match where I won by reversing a cross body into a slam through a table
This is not a complaint lol. But when u mentioned raw2 I was like oh shi- he's hitting us with a classic ian double feature swerve lol....then u hit us with the "next week". I was ahhhh he got me lol. I love everything about how you do your deep dive video essay style videos. They 2nd to none. & your history of's are now & forever will be my favorite thing on RUclips. U da man ian
Thanks man, I appreciate it. Hate to disappoint, but I didn’t say “next week,” I said “next time.” The RAW 2 episode of TXSO is probably a month out. But next week is the Frankenstein episode of SCREAM SEQUENCE, so there’s another retrospective coming next week either way. =)
My bother had the Xbox at this time and we were big wrestling game fans at the time...I had the PS1 and PS2 with the Smackdown series, and he had the N64 prior with all the legends there so this was a no brainer to play when it came out and we just....laughed. We couldn't stop giggling playing this game at how atrocious everything was. You gave a lot of positives to the presentation, but I still remember something we laughed at was how they walked in this game, it still looks weird to me. I put it down pretty quick, I think he played it a lot more than I did...but yeah this wasn't something I stuck too for very long.
Thanks man. I haven't said anything about it publicly just yet, I kinda want to wait until I can get the silver plaque and make a video about it. I'm not sure, we'll see!
So I don't enjoy the game but I have fond memories playing it. Raw 2 on the other hand was my personal favorite game for the Xbox wrestling wise. Luckily at my mom's house we had a GameCube and I got Day of reckoning one and two and WrestleMania 18 , I wanted 19 but beggars can't be choosers
Great video as usual! Looking forward to the next two games from the "WWE XBox Trilogy" of exclusive wrestling games. I played this back when it came out and yea, it was not bad and the presentation was there. But it was just really shallow compared to the other wrestling games back in that era. Makes me wish Yuke's made games for XBox so they could have either ported over the Smackdown games or make it's own series like they did on Gamecube. But I theorize that because the XBox was such a huge flop in Japan that they didn't bother developing for it. That was before the XBox360 era of course.
I actually had this one on PC, before i was able to play the other better ones on PS2 as they weren't as easy to find in stores where I lived. Despite beign absurdly basic, so were many other games back then so it didnt feel so crap .. i had hours upon hours of fun, being it from making my own wrestlers. making real wrestlers that were not in the game , Messing with entrances, creating 2d characters with how absurdly flexible the CAW was. And then, the collect a thon aspeck with items across matches was a cool thing to have and compare with your friends that had found different things.
Ian I assume that you realized this (i would be scared if you don’t) but your incredibly close to 100k, and I just wanna say congratulations. I’ve watched since 2018 or 2019, and since then long from content has been my favourite and that’s inspired me to play long form mortal kombat videos
Thanks man. Yea I'm aware, I've been hoping to hit 100,000 for like 4 years now! Hahahaha. Really exciting, really exciting. Thanks for sticking around.
I went from WWF No Mercy to this game. This was the first time I got bamboozled (and not my last). Anyways, great job on this retrospective, Ian. Btw, I hold a speedrun record for this game (IC title mode). lol
Visuals still to this day are beautiful I love the arena atmosphere. I just wish the game had the smackfown type gameplay to go along with raws superior visuals and it would have been am absolute classic
I always liked the variety of weapons in this game, like how there was all kinds of random stuff like a stuffed dog. The fact you could wear other people's gear too was fun. I also would spend a long time reading the bio's and listening the the entrance songs/titantron videos in the gallery mode.
Though not amazing per day, RAW 2 had some great features. Custom entrance music, custom entrance lighting, ability to edit wrestler attire, finishers from every grapple position
I’ve never really though about it…but after 40 years of playing any wrestling game that crossed my path I really do think I have the best memories of Saturday night slam masters or wcw vs nwo.
Excellent retrospective, very funny and entertaining and you pace your videos so well. The presentation on this is the stuff quality... And then the bell rang. By the way, Haku was also in WWE 2K16 as part of Stone Cold's showcase, only because he was one of the final few in the 2001 Royal Rumble. Good enough excuse to get that badass back in a game right?
One thing about this game Is It released a few days after the ruthless aggression era began so obviously the game Is around the end of the attitude era but the game box features the then new WWE RAW logo for the time
i remember downloading this game for pc from a certain file sharing program around that time. It felt underground as fuck. and because there were no other wrestling games on PC i had quite a good time playing this.
Never played this one back in the day, I have it now because I collect for the OG Xbox and I will have to play it some day. RAW 2 I have played a lot at one point and it is good actually.
Man, I feel so bad for this game, Anchor Inc., and all the Xbox kids growing up. This one had SO much potential and could’ve been an amazing game, as this was the Attitude Era for God’s sakes, but with the lack of gimmick matches, lack of modes, lack of anything special, it boggles my mind thinking, “How the hell was this released in the first place?”. This could’ve been better or on par with SmackDown 2 or No Mercy, but with what we got, it truly was a let down. But the details tho that they did add, I’ll give major points to. Regardless tho, I hope to try this trilogy one day tho, as my twin cousins had an Xbox growing up, and they loved this trilogy, regardless of their flaws, with Raw 2 being their favorite, and one day, they want to relive the nostalgia. One day, one day. Thanks for another fun video, Ian, and I can’t wait for you to cover the rest of this trilogy. Love you and all the DanDans, and I’ll see you next time.😊❤️
I totally remember this game with a story mode where me and my friends could sabotage each other to lower each other's stamina. Weird, now I gotta find what game that was
I cannot wait for you to get to RAW 2. I logged over 1000 hours just in the CAS alone. And the level of customization in the entrances is going to blow your fucking mind. Combined with custom soundtracks - nothing has compared since.
The customization is a high point indeed. The game itself, to me, isn't as amazing as some of these comments make it out to be. But we'll get there, we'll get there.
HHH wasn't the only character in that game that got shafted face-wise. Chris Benoit did as well. I thought I had heard/read somewhere that could have been Road Dogg's face on HHH. Also, I forget which title it was but Fred Durst was unlockable like he was on SD: Just Bring It. I spent more time messing around in Create a Wrestler mode than I did trying to figure out how not to get my butt kicked every single match.
Just like you, Ian, I was and always will be a PlayStation Guy. That being said, I remember watching the commercials back in the day. The game looked so realistic. It looked impressive. I was surprised when I heard all the backlash and how disappointing the game was.
I remember the first time I played Raw, the graphics looked so frickin amazing compared to what I was used to. Played a little sluggish, but it was a different game than Smackdown
Like you, I've never been financially stable enough to be a multi-console household when it came to current-gen consoles, and I was a massive PlayStation fangirl, so when the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox era was in full swing, Sony's machine was my jam. It's only been within the last year and a half I've been digging into the Xbox and its library. I've considered picking this game up before to see if it was on par with my beloved Smackdown series. On the one hand, I feel bad for this game, because the marketing around it at the time was intense and there was no way it was living up to the hype. But on the other hand...man, what a missed opportunity. The stuff it does right, it appears to do really well. But everything else being mediocre at best? Yeah, I just can't pop for that. Sorry, 'WWF Raw'. You'll have to do better to dethrone 'Here Come the Pain' in this house. :)
I think the biggest thing I remember this game for is that you could still copy music onto your Xbox and use them for your created wrestlers. Haven’t seen that since
I remember buying this back in the day, but I was just about to hit a phase of not gaming much, so I probably got 10 minutes of play time outta it. God I wish I had kept all the old gaming stuff I used to have🤦🤦
So glad i was a ps boy back in the 90s 😂 & yes still am today. 1 of my buds did get the Xbox so glad i didn't yea ps2 over here . Good work man ✌. Thinking about getting a GameCube. DOR 1 & 2 they look good wwe games to try out
Yes! For some reason I always wanted you to review these Xbox titles. I never owned these games as I never had the original Xbox but my cousin did. We played pretty much played every wrestling game (wwf/wcw) together and this by far was the least fun we had. Now it did have its moments but the barebones gameplay and janky controls just made it very bland. I do like how you pointed out the little details as a positive especially the entrances and camera angles because those are very good but I definitely didn’t notice as a kid. The graphics were pretty good but the physics were just weird. It had so much potential. Can’t wait for the Raw 2 retrospective since that’s the Xbox title we played the most. (We never played WM21)
Yea, even with a bad game, I like to make sure I cover the positives. I think most people imagined I was going to bury this for 20 minutes, I didn't want to go that route.

I’d argue you’re better off playing wwf attitude lol
And that truly is sad. Attitude is terrible, it was the bane of my existence as a kid lol.
I was blown away the first time playing it as well
Also does anyone know if Maven Huffman was in any of the games?
Definitely a letdown, definitely.
Congrats on 100K Subs!
I remember watchmh the reveal to this and once I played it I was like omg😑 one thing I always loved is how you can attack opponents during their entrances! That feature alone was amazing man.

My brother had this game. Couldn't quite get to grips with it, much preferred the arcadey feel of the Smackdown games, though memory tells we had a good table match where I won by reversing a cross body into a slam through a table
Excellent spot.
16:28 haku was in WWE2k16
Congratulations on the 100k subs. I told you it happen. Also before June 16th ? It was meant to be! 🙏
I might be late to the party on this, but congrats on reaching 100k subs brotha 👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🥳🥳🥳🥳
Love your vids brotha-
Great video as usual!
@@616Entertainment no problem man
I went from WWF No Mercy to this game.
It’s kinda crazy we haven’t seen this raw arena in a game since at least not to my knowledge
Lmao love the season mode
the thing you forgot to put out there and this was my experience. when you go to the CAW mode. the height was insane. 8 foot 11 was the maximum height
One thing about this game Is It released a few days after the ruthless aggression era began so obviously the game Is around the end of the attitude era but the game box features the then new WWE RAW logo for the time
I had Raw 2 when it came out. I only remember 2 things about it… Goldberg was on the cover, and you could use custom music for entrances
This game looked amazing from the images in GameMaster magazine... but that was it.
Ohhhh it’s a good day 🤘🏻❤️
Yessir yessir.
i remember downloading this game for pc from a certain file sharing program around that time. It felt underground as fuck. and because there were no other wrestling games on PC i had quite a good time playing this.
at least someone had a good time
Never played this one back in the day, I have it now because I collect for the OG Xbox and I will have to play it some day. RAW 2 I have played a lot at one point and it is good actually.
Next episode!
Almost 100K subs (again) Ian! This time for good!
Love you and all the DanDans, and I’ll see you next time.😊❤️
"How was it released" is a great question. Definitely a "put it out, it'll sell, we'll just start working on RAW 2." Not very consumer friendly, lol
As another Playstation guy, I agree with everything you said about Xbox but I did get the 360 for left for dead
You’re probably thinking of Fight Club in regards to the Fred Durst thing.
Holy shit that did look like road dogg.
Just like you, Ian, I was and always will be a PlayStation Guy. That being said, I remember watching the commercials back in the day. The game looked so realistic. It looked impressive. I was surprised when I heard all the backlash and how disappointing the game was.
Just waiting on the p.o box for the money order for ya Patreon buddy 😂😂
"it's like we're wrestling on the moon" hahahahhaahaha 😂 exactly that
It really is!
Haven’t seen that since
That’s RAW 2, and I’ll talk about that next time. =)
You seem reasonable enough. I’m gonna subscribe.
Awesome video man 😎!
Thanks man!
I remember buying this back in the day, but I was just about to hit a phase of not gaming much, so I probably got 10 minutes of play time outta it. God I wish I had kept all the old gaming stuff I used to have🤦🤦
NOT the game you want to come back from a break, hahahaha
