    Oh man have I been needing this guide. I've been having issues getting my z-offset right with the autolevel. Following this, in one try, I'm getting a beautiful first layer. Hands down you've made filament printing a breeze.

    just this minute did my setup using the e-leveler2. Looking at the left front side the lines seem, to me anyway, a little more squished the the right side. Does mean the nozzle is a little low. To be fair, the lines look really crisp all round, just a tad wider and squishier on the left front. Great piece of kit Chep.

    Probably not the preferred method, but I set the z offset by eyeball during initial extrusion and running a brim on every single print. I've had some nice prints

    In the video, you subtract 5.7mm for the e-leveler 2.
    Please note that this value doesn't seem universal to me, as the switch's release tolerance must be taken into account.
    In my case, removing 5.7mm is too much, as the nozzle is much too low.
    You'll need to re-calibrate the E-Leveler2 to find the actual value to remove. For me, it's 5.3mm.
    Once calibrated, this tool is very handy (running on an Ender 5 with EZABL)
    Thanks Chuck.
    🙂

    • @FilamentFriday
      @FilamentFriday  11 месяцев назад

      If you adjust as I suggest at 2:00 mark until the LED just turns off it should take care of the release tolerance.

    I found that my Ender 3 prints best when the Z-offset is a little too high, i.e. when Z-height is at 0.00, the head is about 0.15mm above the bed. The bottom of the print looks super nice, and it also sticks well.

    setting the z offset doesnt really seem to work, ill set it down till it turns the light on using my ender 2 v2 and then once it touches the e leveler it kinda stops allowing me to adjust z offset. can you please make a video on how you got a live feedback z offset? cause using your method isnt working.

      You have in creality slicer or creality app on phone cordinates of nozzle. When you connect it to network you will get ip adress. You can se under network tab on printer lcd ip, you type that to web browser and you will get bed mesh/level. I haved with front left being +0.70 all other corners at -0.20, -0.40 etc... you need to print small round plastic or you type ender 3 v3 ke bed lvl. And print from 0.1mm to 1mm and put it under bed holder plastic where on other printers are spring, and put plastic to bottom not up to have contact with heat bed because it will melt from heat. To se level values on printer you go to settings( on printer lcd) and equp. Self test, there you check all 2 box automatic z offset and bed level. On end you will get grid from multy box with values. And you look that all 4 cornes are not more than 0.10 all from others cornest. So i have cornesr at 0.02, -0.01, -0.4, -0.3, that should be pretty close to level ground. And z offset settings you can find under printig options where you can move bed and printing head, options are in right top corner or last option. In same settings menu first 2 options you can find extrude option for getting out filament and retrude for getting in fillament.

    Step 1: auto home
    Step 2: move z to 0
    Step 3 Z-offset with the device. After calculating it comes out at -03,2.
    Step 4: save settings
    Step 5: print the gcode
    When I do step 5, the nozzle is so high above ground that I can't twist any further. The wheel will fall off and it still doesn't hit the tool. When I go to move z, it stands at 6.3 even though I saved the settings. If I load the settings, the Z-offset is still at - 03,2 and the z will be 0 but once I start "printing" the gcode, the z will go to 6 point something

    Have you ever tried bed spacers instead of springs? Just saw something about this recently, wondering if its worth the upgrade.

    • @safargris815
      @safargris815 Год назад

      When the bed is heated it expands slightly and with spacers instead og springs your risk warping the bed. The springs gives it the little flex it needs, for the ender 3 you could buy the upgrade springs which are harder tighten all the way and then loosen 3 turns and level the bed.

      @@safargris815 I have the upgraded springs. I also have an auto bed leveling probe, so slight differences are accounted for. Seen a couple newer machines use spacers.

      @@maxcole4126 i know, Elegoo had spacers for the Neptune 3 pro series but moved away from it again on the newer Neptune 4 due to the increased risk of warped bed. So i would just stay with what you got and dont replace the springs with spacers.

    I found that, by using the calculated number, I had the nozzle touching the bed.
    Why don't you need to add an offset to this? I.e., the z-offset can't be zero (nozzle touching the bed), the nozzle has to be a small amount above the bed. There has to be room for the material to extrude and for the nozzle to move (if it's touching the bed, it will drag on the bed when the bed/nozzle moves) When you set the z-offset with a piece of paper, you're setting a gap the thickness of the paper between the nozzle and the bed.
    With this, if I set my z-offset and z-position to zero and then adjust the z-offset with the light like you describe, the nozzle is at some known height (5.7mm) above the bed when I remove the leveler. Then, I subtract the known height from the readout of the z-offset, (since the z-axis is still at 0), which gives me a negative number for z-offset, i.e. how far the build surface is below the machine's arbitrary "Z=0" point. This is all fine and makes good sense.
    BUT, we don't want the nozzle touching the bed, we want it a little bit (about 0.1mm, according to Ender) up, right? So shouldn't the calculation be ([z-offset from given process]+0.1mm)-5.7mm?
    Neat tool and my squares came out nice. The mechanism is super simple but ingenious, and the "bed up/down" arrows are way more helpful than I thought they'd be.

    I'm sorry to be the fly in the ointment, but in the time you ran the Z offset with the E-leveler, then manually leveled the bed with the E-Leveler (time speed up 4x), then Auto Leveled the bed, I could have manually leveled all 3 of printers with a post-it note. I truly don't understand what the advantage of the Z offset is. If the bed is level, what function does the Z offset do? Why do you have to make an adjustment?

      One thing is having the bed at the same relative distance from the noozle across the board (let's call it a a leveled bed) and another unrelated thing is the absolute z-offset number you need for your machine. You could have a perfectly leveled bed and if the z offset is 1 million meters away then 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @123masteryoda123
      @123masteryoda123 Год назад

      But doesn't the Z offset adjust the distance between your bed and nozzle? And if so, if your bed is level, then why do you adjust the Z. I have 3 printers, 1 has a BL on it and I have to play with the Z, the other 2 do not, and I have NEVER, EVER in 2.5 years adjusted the Z on those 2 and my prints are spot on. @@Drumaier
