    I hit a pot hole when I was on the highway doing about 60 miles an hour and broke my entire steering column I found a new steering column at a used part store which came with the key in the ignition and black box attached to it I removed my old black box and put it on the new steering column and then I also replaced the ignition switch because I had the key and in order to get your same ignition switch you need to have the original key to the new steering column to be able to take it out once I changed all my old stuff “black box and Ignition switch “ it fired right up

    Using parts for more than one model, who'd think of that. Business schools charge tons of money to "teach" this to people. You saved everyone a lot of time and money 😂😂. Great video. I'm chasing an electrical gremlin right now, and removing dash assembly, enjoyed your video.

      First off let me say thanks I appreciate it a lot. Richard. It means a super amount
      And just a word of advice , if you’re looking for an electrical issue on that particular vehicle at the main fuse box it’s integrated. it causes a lot of different scenarios like trailer lights not working brake lights not working items inside the vehicle not working because underneath all the fuses and relays. There’s more relays…… it messes with headlights, blah blah blah

    Great video. In the video the Dakota column appears a bit shorter than the ram. Is it just the steering wheels that are tall/shorter because one you put it in the intermediate shaft bolts up.

    Why no mention or demonstration for the shift indicator? Gen 2 dodge ram 1500 shift indicator is vertical, durango is horizontal.

    You didn't show install? How do you know when steering wheel is "centered between the lock to lock? I have the shaft marked even though it can only go 1 way with the bolt. But the wheel just spins freely before you join the shafts. Isnt there a spring or something inside that has to be in a certain spot?

    I have a 95 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5.9 engine.
    Ignition went bad and would not start.
    I cannot get the new or old switch to fit back flush due to what looks a web covered piece at the bottom of the bottom hole where the switch goes. It has an o ring on it like it is supposed to fit into something. It is a little high not letting either switch fit flush.
    Suggestions?

    Clay
    I just watched it again. For some reason I thought one of them didn’t have keys? I picked up a column from a junk yard no keys! Do you have a good procedure to remove key cylinder

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  4 года назад

      The one I took out didn’t have that’s why changed it. With out the keys . I don’t think you can get cylinder out with out drilling . But not 💯 sure sorry

    What does the steering column bolt to? I hit something with my tire while sliding on ice last winter and now my whole steering column and steering wheel move as one unit and hit something above the column, its really annoying when on a bumpy road. It seems as whatever the steering column bolts to broke and now the steering column and the respective bracket are able to pivot even though all bolts to it are tight.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  4 года назад +1

      Hey good evening chase it bolts right to your dash assembly underneath the dash there’s a bulkhead that is made of steel and it’s very very strong more than likely a bolt or something broke if you take the plastic covers off I’ll bet you see within a couple moments what happened. It’s probably a relatively simple fix for you and your situation I doubt very highly you would ever break that bulkhead . I hope the information is helpful have a great day

    How about the airbag in the wheel??... Is there any step that needs to be taken to avoid exploding the airbags?

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  2 месяца назад +1

      I’m sure I said in the video … they don’t just explode. But I think that that’s the part where you would disconnect the battery.

    I have a 03. I hit some ice last year. My rear bolts are still bolted in. But the front two are like keys teeth. And the column is moved back. It needs to move forward about an inch.
    I have watched dozens of vids trying to fix.
    Any helps guys?
