Back in 1976 my grandfather use to save all his change, had large bottles, IE 1 Sparklets bottle filled and a large plastic wine display along with some other buckets. No Coinstar back then, we spent about 3 days counting and rolling it, had to use my large red Radio Flyer wagon to take it into the bank, just over 10k in change. They went out and bought and paid for a new car. Always pays to save change. I am just bad about looting the quarters.

These coin machines charging 12% is a little excessive/scam imo. I don’t know where else to do this because all of my local Chase banks said they stopped offering this service years ago.
So is this 12 percent taken from your bank account? Or do you have to give some of the bills you just earned from the machine? Like would it be considered stealing if I just walked out after the machine depenses the dollar bills and i take'em?

To save them the 12% charge for trying to cash the coins for paper cash they opted for having it all on a Amazon gift card which doesn't cost anything. You can only use that Amazon gift card for Amazon purchases online only.
I always roll my change and take it to the bank whenever I need it. Covid hit hard and when I can’t make it to the bank or they’re closed early on the weekends, that’s when I’ll use coinstar. It’s not ideal if you need cash because 12% adds up if you bring tons of change, but sometimes you just have to take the hit. A lot of places in my town just won’t accept rolls of change.
Not true, Banks are VERY eager for rolled coins!......I just delivered a couple hundred dollars in rolled coins, they were Very happy to see it....there's still a Major coin shortage.

I go to the local grocery store every day. And I always check the coinstar machine. Some days nothing. But today Dec 7 19. The tray was full of dimes. I filled my pocket up. And went home. I put them on the table. And took a picture with my iPad. And I started to go thru them with my magnifying glass. They turned out to be silver dimes. I ended up with 162 silver dimes. One was a 1941 mercury dime. I’m going to give them to my nephew for Christmas. So don’t give up the hunt !!! You never know !!!
If you look at the stock market today those silver dimes are worth like $1.60 per silver dime so you basically found $250 dollars laying in those coinstar defect trays good job. But one thing that doesn’t make sense is coinstar should be able to detect silver dimes and not put it in the reject tray
At the end of the day it's better to roll your own change because you don't pay fees and you can check for silver quarters and dimes,,,, those little guys add up real quick trust me.

I prefer to take all cash 💸 💰 , don't care to put it on store giftcard. You have to use it to purchase an item. Cash better so can use it to pay for bills grocery, or what you want to spend it on.
I know this video is 2 years old but im against the coin star. I dont believe you should have to be charged money to use money. I work hard for my money and i roll all my change up. When i need to buy any items and im a little short on the amount i will pay the rest with rolled change. I think walmart puts them coin stars in to reduce the cashiers.

Back in the day when they didnt have coin counting machines they had this plastic try that they could set and type of roll in without the paper and it would show weather your short or have the full amount. But people with money could care less about spending 10 cents for every dollar that them machines count. If i was a cashier at a store and someone had to pay in rolled change i would not mind 1 bit im actually pretty fast at counting Change by hand. But feel free to throw your money away.

This is way I got the coin wrappers from my bank and started filling those out. At the end of the year i brought all the change and $1 i saved to a totap of $670.
In the uk they have these in supermarkets. The self service checkouts deliberately give u a tonne of change knowing ul probably cash it in there giving coinstar a profit, sneeky

If I do my change there about $700 in there if you almost $300 so they would charge me over a $100 just to change it in. I put them in the jar. My fiancé hates when I pay for things using coins. So I just put them in a jar. I want to eventually take my coins to a coinstar machine and have them counted. My dad said the machine keeps a percentage of your money or something like that.

I don’t know if the machines are accurate, but they can’t be worse than the counting machines at the bank. When you select e-gift card it will show you where you can use it, but some options are amazon, Nike, and basically anywhere a visa can be used

From my research, however, the gift card options are limited… so I intend to bite the 11.9% fee and get my slip for cash. Well they worked hard to count it for you which is the concept they count it for you so you don’t have to do you pay them for that

This was useful....but it took about 8 seconds to give us with all of the info we needed.
