- Train Life A Railway Simulator releases today and this is part 1 gameplay from the early access release of the game. This is Euro Train Simulator! I'm working through the Train Life tutorial in the first two parts of this series before working on my own railway/train company to take over Germany and eventually the whole of Europe.

Behold! While some may describe this section of the video as the link graveyard, I offer you treasures, delights and mischief. This section of the description rarely changes, except when it does (*).
Okay, that's a total lie, it's a link graveyard. It is however delivered with the kind of panache you have come to expect.
Why is any of this interesting? Because I try to make the nonsense that occurs behind each of these links worth your while. You can trust me. No reason is offered why you can trust me, just know that you can.
Let's do the commercial gubbins first. Anything you procure from the below will help out the channel, although I might spend some of the kickbacks I get on "projects". If any of these projects see the light of day, you'll be the first to know.
Would you like a personal video? Maybe you fancy sponsoring the outro, sending a birthday message, life tips or buying a video? Get yourself to the Wisio! www.wisio.com/...
Perchance you would care for some merchandise? Only the very best will do for the Colonel's table! freshmerch.fm/...
If you'd like to support the channel and get some rather magical bonus videos, access to the lunacy of the Discord channel and more offers to play games than sticks should be shaken at. More importantly you'll be part of the last emergency service - The Fail Brigade. Zesty! Two ways to get with the program-
Option 1 (several different tiers available): Patreon - / colonelfailure
Option 2 (one size-fits all): RUclips - www.youtube.co...
Last but not least, if you want to know my current "rig" (that's what we young people call it) consists of visit the ole Amazon storefront where I will tempt you with things, all of which I do not regret using my own personal pocket money on: www.amazon.co....
Let us move on from tales of commerce to things more fun-loving.
Do you want to follow a Twitter account that is actually cheerful? Not in the kind of way that offers life-affirming, inspirational text with a waterfall in the background, but in a jolly, acerbic kind of way? Follow me on Twitter. That's what I do. I almost never shill my latest video entertainment. / cnlfailure
Do you want to know what videos are coming up each week? A few people do. I don't always get around to publishing the schedule, but when I do, I do it on Facebook. Not sure why I chose Facebook, but there you are. / cnlfailure
Okay, you've made it. You clicked at least two links, now get your reward.
(*) - Today's secret: The trains themselves handle nicely enough, but the success of this game will come down to how alive the world feels in career mode. Derail Valley has the similar carrot-pursuit style of gameplay and the trains are a lot of fun to drive because they're so visceral, but the world is dead. Train Sim World (BIAS WARNING) is far more intricate and works hard to achieve an authentic experience, but the reward is in the journey, not in the completion of a journey. It remains to be seen how Train Life will fare...
Anybody else the "Try not to derail the train." would be a casual piece of advice, when the Colonel plays it feels like it's directed specifically at him, like the game's gone "We've seen your previous work, try not to derail this one."
"Don't derail the train"
"HAHA, Run 8, 4ever m8"
"It kinda feels personal."
This was made with Colonel Failure specifically in mind ;)

[long-suffering sigh] "And try not to destroy the train, 007..."
Having the "Switch tracks" button in real life would make my job so much easier :)
"Welcome to Munich in Germany..."
*stands in front of not a German signal with not a German loco under not a German catenary
Game devs. We need to talk.
Yeah it's... not a simulator at all.
@@tm4609 Also, brakes apply&release instantly
Speed is in kph. Near enough for me.
And the German tutorial was so broken that they replaced it with the English one with a hotfix.
I can't believe that you didn't see the saw mill. Glad to see that the station generates logs, just hope that it doesn't fill the hard drive up. Red flashing light, shepherds' delight. Thanks for the video.
For those on PS4/Xbox One with FPS problems, try this - The fps slowdown seems to be related to minimap zoom level (the more zoomed in the worse the fps). Yu can test this by turning off the hud and watching the FPS improve dramatically. Go into the options and switch the minimap to MANUAL and set it to around 500,000 and now when the train slows down, the map no longer zooms in and the fps stay much higher. The price you pay is not being able to see the tracks in detail on the mini map but as long as you pay attention to the LEFT/RIGHT switch indicators its not a huge problem. So anyone still on PS4 or Xbox One with fps slowdown, give this a try!
I bit the bullet and bought this after seeing the video. Purely from a gameplay perspective, it's basically Derail Valley with catenary tracks and German town names, but massively simplified train running. Got fined €500 like 6x in the first 5mins of playing career mode because I was allegedly on a blocked track - eventually I did discover a train but it wasn't really in my way or anything, but at least the presence of it is a positive. That being said, this seems alpha-esque, not even beta, so beware. Tons of potential in the idea, though.
Too-Early Access
"Notice the dwarf signals bla bla bla change to green color"
Colonel talk to the normal signal
Me: "Well, the possibilities he lost the dimensions' sense are notable"
You need to be completely stationary before using the reverser, you say?
Nice to see the colonel playing by all the rules [ that won't last long ]
This is curious and interesting TSW + ETS 2 progression + sandbox kind a gameplay
where is das hooter :P, i like your commentary skills, loved it +1♥♥♥
Will your cousin Peter Zwangsbremsung make an appearance in part 2, I wonder?
We lovingly call him PZB
@@TronicJohn Good point. I don't know Peter, but used to work with his wife, Liz.
Looks like people are getting sick of Dovetail and they start to make alternatives...good
As a Dutchman: That's blue. Now why the heck would you be one of us if that's green?
Huh! Waarover heb je het? The color is neither blue or green, it's turquoise :)
@@Wereldburger01 Well, there's your link: We have had some beautiful turquoise locomotives. The Colonel really knows his stuff, probably.
No colonel cam? Thats disappointing but a good game and video as per usual
5:16 That loco looks like a baby version of those typical American freight diesels.
Derail valley... with less derailing?
As a guy with the second name Hans and as a guy born in Berlin
1. We are able to speak English properly
2. Currywurst is trucking delicious
3.we do eat sandwiches
Are you sure you're not Ian Dury?
Anyway, this was thoroughly entertaining, thank you.
I would like to ride the train around Europe, do not want to drive it. Is this possible? Is it VR compatible?
Yes this will be great
Graphics are phenomenal. But it seems to be more game than simulator
very cool 😎
At 10:15 you really got me, I had agreed 100%
Just wish the game sound and commentary sound was on the same level, now you have to sound up and down all the time to hear what they say in the game.
Oooo... doing the tutorials in front of us... and in 2 parts. Bold. ;-)
Awesome video as always!
Poor mechanics had to fix all those wheels because you kept accelerating and breaking so hard, they were constantly slipping lol
It looks not German. The signals, sign shields and (Polish) catanary so far I have seen are not German. The game seems to be developed by Polish. Also the city that I see the opening screen looks typical Polish. And "Kaputbahn etwas" looks as not native German, meaning in this case "A somewhat (etwas) broken railway business".
Only somewhat? Blimey, Google Translate must be really letting the Colonel down!
@@mastertrams Even Google comes up with failures ;)
@@Wereldburger01 Don't I know it!
Kaput = word for collapes/Exploed/Broken
Bahn = Rail (railway)
I love that you immediately ignore the tutorial
Is there ever any of these games where you can just get on the train as a passenger? Even if you need to do a route first, would be nice to be able to actually look at the scenery
Train Sim World is your best bet on that front
@@colonelfailure thanks! The ludicrous amount of pricey dlc is a bit off-putting but since train sim 1 and 2 are delisted and the bundles descriptions are so confusing i never know whats a new route and whats just trains. So im scared to buy dlc i won't care much about.
What about Hobos? any hobos on these trains?
The sound of that train.. Anyone listened ? It some suspense-enhancing ambience from horror game. No , really, listen to it in background , this is totally sound of train of horrors.
New game, came out today. Ive been on a train kick so this is interesting but what im really looking for is electric passenger trains in VR. Everything i see here can be done in train sim world 2 if you wanna walk around like that.
Derail valley is honestly the best train sim for VR at the moment - and its honestly my favorite over both TS and TSW gameplay wise. Its lack of trains and train mod support are being fixed by december of this year with a huge new update. So I feel like this new game, and both TS and TSW have a very limited lifespan with me. I probably wont play any of them if they dont offer VR once derail valley supports electric passenger trains.
I feel DV needs a new, bigger, map for electric trains otherwise speed will be very limited. A challenge for sure and certainly not boring but perhaps incredibly frustrating not being able to get up to speed like you'd expect with a passenger service.
@@Pjs-ge7gk supposedly they have 3 more cities planned and a new world dlc. Far in the future though.
My biggest disappointment with this game is that the track switches aren't animated and it's just rails clipping into each other :( It's pretty much the first thing any self respecting train sim should sort out and has done so for decades.
Derail Valley clone it seems, was hoping it would be more like DTG, maybe SimRail will bring more simulation side 🤞
Actually Derail Valley is more thought out, the cars for the contracts are already in the stations and you need go couple them. In this game they just spawn behind you (on a single, dead-end track) and you have to go into the service center to turn the train around o_O
Ps5 Just bought enjoying it.
I'm not sure about them going their own way on keybindings, just to prove that they haven't been looking at any other train sims prior to making this. W for increase throttle? X for horn? Crazy.
When using a gamepad, you control the camera with the left stick. They did this so you don't have to move your thumb from stick to buttons, but it seriously hurt my brain.
Is this any good on ps4 ?? Looking to order it
nice another train Simulator it looks good i am going it. is out now ?
EA in Steam, yes.
Looking forward to part 2 🥳🚄💨
On its way...
@@colonelfailure Cool 😎 👌🏻
So basically kinda like Derail Valley?
I’m really enjoying it. Currently trying to figure out how to set a hired driver to a route.
Can this game be played in the us?
So this is some kind of upgraded, non-VR Derail Valley?
Derail Valley is perfectly enjoyable Non-VR.
Sounds like Dovetail games reviewing
Looks promising
What the. Is this Sam from dowtail games ?
Like this looks great
You've definitely driven a train before...
Way better than Train Simulator
where's the steering wheel, cant find it
"Welcome to German! Mind the hooter and don't be this guy.
So every train sim game is DV now just like any game that's slightly pixelated is "Minecraft" 🙄
That looks pretty fun… wish i had a good pc to play it.. im a mac guy
Can anyone explain the signal indications to me? They don't line up with what I thought they would mean.
Hey! Game Dev here :)
We are working on the signaling system to make it more fluid with the gameplay and player experience. Make sure to follow us on YT and join the Discord channel to stay up to date with the game :discord.gg/ZQKWez8S
Have a good one!

That narrator for the tutorial sounds like a bored and sad MatPat...
Hope this comes to consoles
Kaputt with two T :)
After Derail Valley, other simulators looks a joke to me.
how many rail sims are there O_O
kaputbahn :D
AI is currently turned of due to problems with some systems
train life: a "railway simulator"
I reconise this voice from years ago! I cant put a name to it but its YOU and it wasnt this name or account lol
That's highly unlikely. This is my first YT foray (been going around 8 years).
@@colonelfailure Ok I am sorry, just sounds so similar, which isnt a bad thing because I love the voice and video
No apology needed, just wanted to save you time trying to figure out a name.
Is it me or this looks too much arcade? :(
Tutorial sounds like it was narrated by a 16-year-old.
That isn't a simulator, so don't call it one.
Looks like one 😂
@@TarolinSchofield to the amateur eye it might
Bro, what? 😂 amateur eye? You sound like a Reddit moderator😂
@@christopherbrown4500 and what are you? Some kind of scammer finance guru? I haven't touched Reddit in my life...
@@tm4609 Scammer finance guru 😂 that’s funny, but nah man that ain’t me. You’d fit in on Reddit though, just saying. 🤷♂️
Also, they need a new voice over guy.
I much prefer this over Derail Valley
A little bit of a difficult kind of game but I dig it so far.
I am very happy after long Microsoft train simulator will be fucked badly by train life incredible.
Kaputtbahn Etwas D:
hans sifasifasifa😂😂😂😂😂
19:43 maybe he's related to Ron "Shorty" Bongoes?!
in before the one or two obligatory thumbs-down trolls that are part of CF's life seemingly.
How did you refuel without buying the "allowed to refuel your train" license! What version of Derail Valley is this...
wtf plays simulator games anyway
