I remember when installing vortec heads on my 350 Chevy corvette and a comp cam 218/218 from 15.7 it went down to 13.7 , did install headers and exhaust and Holley carb (750 secondary vacuum and upgrade for more fuel because it was asking for) I still think it can run faster but haven’t done anything to it in a decade
You can get aluminum AFR Enforcers for less than that. I got my vortecs off a junkyard engine, had them magnafluxed, machined and a valve job all for less than $600. That was 10 years ago. They are still great head.
1996-2000. 2001 vans. went on into the marine industry. Volvo Penta 2005. My 04 has this engine and it was all cracked in the Texas freeze from not being winterized.... 310 hours only..
My brother has a 1988 chevy 5.7 350 with the Smog pump heads. He took those heads off and put the iron vortec heads on along with a vortec Dual plane airgap intake...my question to anyone with Knowledge... what's the biggest camshaft he can run without having to put a Stall converter in and without the valves hitting the pistons...and we was wanting to know about how much Horse power we could expect. This setup will be running on the streets and it will be doing some street racing.......Any help
Just bought a set of these from Clearwater for $900 out the door (free shipping). Screw in studs, already machined for .600 lift, 2.02"/1.60" valves. Making my '93 Sierra 4x4 all terrain rig.
I have a 95 chevy 5.7 TBI . Can I replaced the heads for vortec heads to increase flow and cam? And of couse I belive Im going to need a different intake and carb and fuel regulator .. can it be done?? Im planing on sendind the block to the machinche shop and add flat pistons and oil pump??
@@125artfox depends what you want ?? But it's best to replace it when the a beef up engine , trany and computer . The other way just waisting money for little extra power and a lot of trouble.
Some of them might be, or at least go through final assembly after receiving rough castings from foundries in the US. GM has been using suppliers and final assembly plants from outside the US for decades now.
Got your vortec head and TPI intake combo back on 2003. Love it.
Awesome love the vortec. But your rt. Aluminum is the way to go

LS6 valve springs ,bigger exhaust valves and a port and polish job and you got some serious heads .
Even with ls6 valve springs it’s a superb bang for buck head

I run a vortec 5.7 with edelbrock heads, a cam, pushrods, rpm preformed intake, Holley terminator, long tube headers true dual…
run an H or X pipe, you'll love it
Up to 2000 in suburban and Tahoe, I think. Code r 5.7l were also found in those Isuzu cab over trucks and vans.
My 04 has them.
Too bad the prices tripled in 10 years on those heads :/
You can do a set in your garage for 400 bucks
They’re $400 assembled brand new from Rock Auto.

Stock .470 lift.
Want to run .500 lift... how much do I machine off and can I run factory springs?

Can't argue with that, nice snag!
Clearwater Florida?
@@freshbutplain1144 Clearwater heads yes in Clearwater FL eBay seller too
2.02"/1.60 valves in this head won't make much of a difference over the 1.95/1.60 valves but for that price over SD $1300 is worth it lol
@@Sdpartscenter do you sell vortec heads for sbc 305
Richard Holdener just talked about ya'lls vortex heads last week in one of his RUclips videos.

True, unless you're just dead-set on using that setup, or you got them at a swap meet, the cost is climbing.
