On February 23, 2018, at approximately 10:09 a.m., I responded to Vedder Lane in reference to a suspicious incident. Upon arrival contact was made with complainant Sila Battaggia Lopez who provided the following in a sworn written statement:
Battaggia Lopez stated that at approximately 9:00 a.m., his golden retriever had gotten out of his garage and ran off toward DeHaven Street and Randal Park Blvd. Battaggia Lopez stated that he got into his vehicle and drove off to bring the dog home when a gray GMC pickup truck did a U-turn and pulled up next to him. The driver of the vehicle - an unknown white male possibly in his thirties - then identified himself as a police officer and showed him a police badge in an aggressive manner, stating that his dog is always running free and threatening to kill his dog. The truck then sped off and parked behind a nearby residence.
Battaggia Lopez followed the truck and was able to take a picture of its license plate. He then called the police, because he wasn't sure if the male was a real police officer.
A check of the vehicle tag that Battaggia Lopez provided came back to a Daniel Gomez, just a few residences down the street. Contact was made with Gomez, as seen in this video.
The Office of the State Attorney ultimately charged Daniel Gomez with one count misdemeanor unlawful use of police badge or indicia of authority, Florida Statutes 843.085. Lopez pleaded no contest to the charge, and adjudication was withheld, with fines and fees due in the amount of $436.82.

Like everyone else you did not watch the video carefully. It's a honorary badge, some departments allow officers to give them out to their loved ones as keepsakes, they do not contain a badge number or rank, usually has a the state or city emblem and the county/city as well as the type of department police/sheriff/FD.

@@present3348 places give out "honorary badges". Police departments tend to keep track of every badge to ensure they dont end up in other peoples hands, like inventory. I don't think it was an official badge.

Tell guilty people to confess and more of them would do it. Not all, but significantly more.

If I had a badge I would definitely use it if I got pulled over. Ticket writing cops piss me off. They're losers who go after hard working people and ticket writing cops won't be seen serving felony warrants or doing drug bust. They're idiots. I maybe get pulled over once every few years so I kinda believe him. If I had the badge I would've used it one time in 5 years because that's the amount of times I was pulled over in 5 years
The negatives to be found here usually get enough mentions, so I will go with a positive and say that I appreciate the complainant & his mother's sunny dispositions. From what can be assessed on this video, they are both seemingly very intelligent, considerate and just plain nice people, that we could use more of.
As a deputy myself of 12 years the thing that blows my mind out of all of this is a legit law enforcement officer gave a regular citizen a legit badge, that to me is mind blowing and I can guarantee she lost her job. He’s trying and hoping to save himself so of course he’s gonna throw her under the bus but for her to do that to begin with is cause for termination right there and extremely unprofessional!
Secondly IMO these officers should have arrested him right then instead of going to the DA. They had MORE than enough PC to charge this guy with impersonating. The dude incriminated himself as well as Iv ever seen! But with that said kudos to the investigating officer for following up on this and not just ignoring it, that is the kind of person you do NOT want acting like he is a LEO and having a badge as you can tell this is not his first time doing that.
Lastly and most important, if you’re trying to act like the popo but your not really the popo nor have ever been the popo, please for the love of everything holy don’t say 10-4 to me and you’ve never served a day in your life, and call of duty doesn’t count. You sound like such a poser and dork when you say 10-4 and all it does is make you look stupid and me more upset .

However, they have one of the lowest rates because they're so typically not aggressive. The 2008 "Breed differences in canine aggression" University of Pennsylvania study has excellent information on it, and you can find the full article with a google search. The Dachshund is reported by them as most aggressive. Pit bulls though have by far the greatest risk of death (reported in other studies). They are killing machines once they start.

As the officer in the video stated, he was not supposed to have it and his friend was NOT supposed to give it to him. I was making a joke about him possibly getting her fired because of his stupid actions and now owing her a job.
So it turns out the girl he got the badge from was arrested and fired what a good friend.

How ELSE do you find out if someone is IMPERSONATING AN OFFICER? You can’t impersonate an OFFICER IF YOUR A POLICE OFFICER. Did you now think thru what you said? The ONLY WAY to tell if someone was impersonating being a police officer is going and TALKING TO THEM, the same exact way they woulda find out if he actually WAS a police officer. The purpose of a friends and family badge is to show officers when you get pulled over and say I'm a close friend or family member of an officer. I don't like that this exists, but it does. And obviously you would need the badge in the car to do that. He also has a CnC license (you can see it in his wallet), so the gun is reasonable too (it's Florida). And finally 10-4 is an incredibly common response in ANY job where you use a radio. Whether you're trucking, working in certain types of warehouse (which I think he said he did), or operate a ham or short wave radio.
Is he guilty? Yeah. Is he dumb? Yeah. Are the guesses people are making intelligent? No.

I feel like that could have been a genuine misunderstanding. Perhaps he intended “I will report it” and the other person interpreted it as “I will kill it.” It’s not so far-fetched.
Good on everybody including the responding officers for not needlessly escalating the situation. This seems like a situation easily resolved with an apology and a handshake between neighbours.
I think it was a misinterpretation as well. He probably said he didn't want to see the dog get killed. After all, he said he turned around to make sure the dog was ok since it was in the middle of the street.

The clue that he probably is a habitual serial Police Impersonator is that during two separate telephone conversations,.he used the term "Ten-Four" which is the Police code meaning "Received and understood" where someone else might have said "Okay" or "Got it". If someone said "Ten-four" to me instead of "Got it", I would be inclined to ask them if they were or had ever been a Police officer.
