Please help! I am having to cut down most of my beautiful huge monstera bc I put it near WiFi without thinking and went on vacation I came back to a radiated plant! I had it properly fed per usual. Properly watered. Misted. Dusted. Brought in from outside in the sunniest area of house. And now I have to start all over with it. Have had it for 5 years! It’s heartbreaking! Any suggestions or am I at the mercy of destruction? The stock is nice and thick do I cut back dead branches & let it build back up?
I received a Monstera from a friend, and over the years - not really understanding the plant - it became leggy and I was clipping the air roots, and generally not treating it right. Then I learned more about it, and made cuttings. Just a couple of years later, the main plant has more than doubled its leaves, and I have two more Monsteras that have continued to grow well and produce beautiful fenestrated leaves. I think I found just the right spot for lighting them. Thanks for your info and insights!
What are you doing now with the air roots? I had a monstera that grew huge! But when moving, my new appartment barely had any sunlight.. my monstera started doing bad, didn't grow anymore except for air roots, and had trips twice. I'm propagating the last surviving leaf now, and bought a new one to start over as well (it drained my energy and money from trips, literally). When my previous monstera started doing bad, it was just overfilled with air roots, very very ugly. I cut most of them off for the aesthetics, yeah I know.. Got any tips for what to do with the air roots if they overtake again?
I recently potted a Monstera rooted in water that I got in a trade. It fell victim to my cat who liked the way the leaved wiggled when batted at. I cut off the damaged leaves and was surprised to find a new leaf coming out of the middle of the cut after a few days. I put the damaged leaves/stems into water to see if the other side would put out roots. They have no nodes, however. No roots yet, but the stems are not dead.
Update: one of the damaged stalks is now putting out roots in the water without having a node. The other one is still alive, so I will leave it and see how it does.
Thanks for the great video. I have a monsters deliciosa in my bathroom. It looked a lot like yours. I had it loosely tied to a coir pole. I recently tied the stems (using some Velcro tape) to the pole and it looks so much happier. It is now more upright and isn’t a mass of leaves spreading out. It no longer looks like a monster taking over the space. I did this in autumn so I’m not expecting new growth. I’m going to try propagating some cuttings next spring. You’ve inspired me

Just for the record of an experiment I tried as a beginner, I chopped 3 pieces of Pothos. 2 leaves, 1 leaf, and 0 leaves. I put them in the water on a bright spot with indirect sunlight. The piece with the two leaves has two nodes underwater with one if its leaves underwater as well. I was planning to chop it off if I see it rotting.What surprised me is that after a month, the underwater leaf is completely undamaged. Of course I change the water every week. The piece with the two leaves has 3 big roots now on the first node and 2 on the other one. The piece with one leaf has one root. And the piece with no leaves has no roots yet. All the roots are completely white and looking healthy. I know there are many factors and this doesn''t prove something, I just write it as a notice. In case photosynthesis plays a role.

Yes that’s exactly right. They fruit and the sends drop onto the forest floor and the seedlings crawl along until they can attach themselves onto a tree to climb up.
Hello, dear. Just got a leaf from a well grown 15+ meter tall monstera. The leaf is very young. It seems to have no node. Is there any chance it can grow roots? Will potting it, keeping it wet, and with plenty of sunlight work? Or is it a death sentence to it?
My monstera is down to two leaves, on the same node.we’ve moved three states the past two years and I have four cats. He’s held on strong! I put it in a glass of fresh distilled water in great light but I’m worried my plant is done😞

I have a plant that has broken the last leaf, 10cm above the place where a new leaf would grow. I would like to prune that part to make another plant and but I don't know if I need to wait until the new leaf comes out or it's safe to prune it anyways and put that piece that have a couple of aerial roots, in water? I've learned soo very much from your channel : ) Question and forgive me if its a silly one, but I purchased some cuttings from Etsy a while ago and they arrived with soft, rotting roots. I chopped and tried to prop them. One of the leaves didn't have any nodes on it but I stuck it in water anyways. Its surprisingly growing roots, but without a node, will it still grow into a plant? Or is it just a pretty leaf in water haha thanks for the help!

New to the channel! Thanks for the info. Iv recieved 2 monsteras a for free that arnt looking very healthy at all. Brown leaves etc. I wasnt sure what to do to rescue it. Thinking of propogating like this although dosnt have many healthy leaves. Is there a follow up video to this?
I have a new monestera that I've had a couple weeks. It's been in quarantine. Cleaned, inspected it last night. Eaten leaves, brown spots, white specs on the leaves. No obvious bugs that would fall off. I treated it with neem oil and still have it in quarantine. Anything else I should do? Those big damaged leaves are ugly. My older monestera one part actually fell out of the pot. I've ordered a moss pole to stake the rest of the plant. There's too much distance between the leaves so I've moved it to a brighter spot. I have a leaf cutting from a variegated monstera which I have had in water for about six weeks and it still has no roots. It has nodes and the leaf is still alive. It has also developed what looks like a shoot but it still has no roots. I have been changing the water about once a week so it doesn’t get too yucky. What can I do to help it develop roots or do some of them just take a long time? Thank you.
I'm trying to propagate my Monstera Deliciosa in water. After almost 2 weeks there are some that didn't get roots at all and there are some that got many tiny roots but growing from the air-roots. Will those roots growing from the air-roots do fine once placed in soil? Thanks :)

I knocked mine on the floor and the top broke off. I stuck in sphagnum moss in a plastic cup. it's rooting. Tried the prop box method with a cutting when I first got it. Nasty, mushy and wilted.
Got this MD clipping and wanna propagate. It has 2 longer aerial roots and one smaller one that’s growing right now. You think I can propagate straight in soil or should I stick to water prop?
I bought a cheese plant leaf of Ebay which had been cut off mother plant and it had a air root so I presume they grew it in water. I've had it months and no new growth at all. Pretty disappointing as paid a bit for it as its variegated. How do I encourage it. Thanks

My monstera is full of aerial, very long roots and I don't know if it is healthy for the plant to cut them off? Those roots grow very much and get to the floor. I see your plant has no such roots.

If there is a node then it should grow roots. The bit on the plant you mean? Just tidy it up and forget about it.

Might be difficult without a node but worth a try. I’d be tempted to propagate in water so you can keep an eye on progress

If you cut the leaf off it will grow a new stem. If there is stem on the leaf you can propagate it
Do you use bottled water for propagation?? Can the chlorine in tap water damage the roots?

The nobule experiment worked! Got a little plant with 4 new leaves. Very small at the moment but growing happily.

Normally takes a while but the root should come before the leaf. More light is needed probably

Yes they normally start from the aerial root. Give it longer than 2 weeks

Yes you can but it will be slower so needs a bit more patience

Are they mealybugs? Dabbing tubing alcohol on them kills them and then clean the plant

Does it have a piece of stem attached? If roots aren't coming it probably needs more light.
