Thanks! Pretty slow. Stop start. But an occasional faster sweep or lift of the rod will sometimes trigger them to latch on if they’re just following. Mix it up a bit, but slow is usually best. 👍
Hey Starlo! Enjoyed the video 😊 I wanted to ask, seeing as though you tend to reel with your non-dominant hand and work the rod with your dominant hand on a spin outfit, does the same go for baitcasters? Or is that only for spin gear?
Hi Ethan. I crank my spin reels, fly reels and centrepins with my non-dominant (left) hand but use my dominant (right) hand to crank baitcasters, overheads and sidecasts. I have a go at explaining why here: ruclips.net/video/iBQvIgTW7_I/видео.html
Awesome, Thank you! And thanks for always getting back to everyone! It really means a lot getting to converse with such a legend and icon in the fishing industry 😊
@@Ethan-mk2jf no worries! I try, but I know some comments slip through the cracks and don’t get answered. But I do my best to respond to most of them. 👍
I just cut up without scoring, flash fry flat in olive oil and then hit with some sea salt without free flowing agent. No other flavouring required. I always mean to save some for bait, but never do. I even eat the head. Without the beak and eyes.
Great video, Steve! Just goes to show that you should never discount squid when spinning the rocks during times of low light. Steve, I have a question for you as I have recently taken an interest in spinning the beach for tailor and salmon and have bitten the bullet and have decided to try using braid. So, here's my question, when fishing an area which has tailor up to 3kg, how do you avoid bite-offs? Should I be using a short trace of single strand wire? Cheers, mate! I value and always have valued your opinion. Frank :)
Thanks Frank! Yes, big tailor can be a dilemma - although not a bad one to have! But yes, I think I'd try a nice short (12 - 15cm) trace of single strand wire with a very small swivel or solid ring at the leader end. I'd have a crack at making your own, too. If you haven't done so before, I'll put a link to a how-to video I did on it immediately below this reply.
I shouldn't have watched as hungry after work as i am. Looks amazing.
Ha! Love it!
Well done again mate.
Cheers! 👍
Awesome 😊
Thanks!
Excellent video as usual, Steve. Hmm... must get myself some breakfast!
Thanks!
great vid again starlo
Thanks!
I also love a good feed of squid, But what happened to the heads and tentacles? They are really tasty too.
Agreed! I keep those as well to eat or use as bait.
Would love to see more cooking
Definitely more coming. Check this one out: ruclips.net/video/0KQEdsd2BJg/видео.html
Mmm squid.i recall the days of having a spare 10 in the freezer
👍
Another great vid, I like what you do with cooking the squid, it made me hungry.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic video. I'm keen to do a bit of squid fishing for the first time this winter. How fast is your lure retrieve for them?

Tomorrows dinner recipe!
Hope you enjoy!

Nice! I wonder how to rig a live squid?
Single hook through top of hood keeps them alive longest, but you do miss a few takes that way.
@@StarloGetsReel Thanks Steve, under a float or a baloon, also another great recipe for squid... ruclips.net/video/scyPT3TdF9Y/видео.html

@@StarloGetsReel Hi Steve. Thanks heaps for your input. Yes, I'm a novice when it comes to wire and making up wire traces so cheers for the link.
