Depends, but probably as most of those rigs are top-heavy. You can use different counterweights that are more or less universal. These should work, although I haven’t tried them personally… amzn.to/3KupZMM
I just ordered the Crane M3 and many months of research and reviews. Even though I only plan on using it with my cell phone and Gopro, I wanted the security of the strongest motors for its size. I just hope I made the right decision. Time will tell.

Solid build. Thanks for sharing. Does the problem of dot flares, from lights facing the lens, gets solved/minimized after anamorphic + Nd/macro filter? If it doesn't, is there any way of doing so without the DOF adapter?
It gets minimized some I’d say. But not eliminated. I just did that short film shoot in mentioned in the video and got zero green dots, however, it was all day exterior - but with some flares and sun shots. So that was good. Need to try it at night too. Thanks for watching!
@@iphoneographers I have experienced the green dots in artificial lights, mostly. Will be on the lookout for the video where you talk about a night shoot. Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it.
I have the Crane M2 and you’re absolutely right about it not balancing phones. I tried to do it with the 13 pro max and couldn’t get it to balance. It works well with the ZV-1 though. However I also have a Weebil-S from Zhiyun for my bigger camera set up. So I just put the phone on that since it can support up to 7lbs.
I have the Crane M2 and to get it to balance Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (a big phone!) I had to remove the little memory lock so that the arm could move more to the right to balance. Not to mention that I am using an aluminum 67mm ND Filter with Moment's 67mm Aluminum filter phone mount aswell as a full front and back case on my phone, I used a magnet to mount a VIJIM 100c light to the back of my phone while on the Crane M2 to act as a counter balance aswell as gives me a source of light for dark environments. This setup works perfectly!
@@rickymedina7563 I am thinking of buying the new Crane M2S , but can I ask some question ? Can you use all the gimbal modes without any issues ? How is the Zhiyun app on phone ? Excellent review. The best I've seen, thank you very much. I really prefer the beastgrip pro cage, although it seems more cumbersome, it is actually less heavy and once it is out of the gimball it has a better grip. Good job.
Great Video. I also have crane M3 I normally use with S22 Ultra phone. Can you please do a video on how to shoot video vertically with this Gimbal as I found portrait mode doesn't hold very well. Would you have any special setup for holding it vertically as it doesn't balance very well.
Thank you so much for this video! Enjoyed it!! Question: I thot the M3 cannot be sync-ed with mobile? I mean, the buttons of the Gimbal cannot control the mobile camera right?
I think you can get the record button to trigger on mobile (like the native camera app), but that would pretty much be it. But for me I don’t use that and so it’s just an overall great gimbal. Thanks for watching!
Ok, I’ve got to know how you feel. I know nothing about gimbals and might like to try my first timer gimbal for a month in Europe. M3 or Movi Robot for iPhone with Moment anamorphic, or secondary consideration running with a Samsung 23Ultra?
Nice setup, Blake! Hey, does the gimbal have a record button and if so, does it control the record function on the iphone? I have the Crane 3s and it does not. I've been trying to get them to incorporate that function with the 3s, but that hasn't happened yet. I gotta pull the "reach around" move.
Nope! At least not with Filmic Pro (it might work with their app though, but I haven’t used it for recording video yet). It does with traditional cameras via a control cable you plug in.
I have the Moment Thin case on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. The Zhiyun smartphone clamp could not properly span the wide of the cover and actually pulled it away from the phone’s body. That was unacceptable for me. Plus it caused the phone to be too far to the rear, causing it to be back-heavy. The first issue was solved by ordering the Ulanzi ST-02S Metal Phone Tripod Mount (opens much wider and has a cold shoe on top) from Amazon for $14.95. That took care of the mount properly holding the phone (not pulling the case away from the phone’s body). The next issue was the phone needed to be moved forward of the Crane-M3’s “default” location to enable properly balancing. I already had a Ulanzi ST-16 Metal Tripod Mount which had a plate with multiple screw holes that allow for adjusting the entire mount forward or backward on a tripod head. I cannibalized it by removing that plate, attached the ST-02S to that, and mounted the whole thing on the quick release plate for the Crane-M3. This configuration allowed moving the iPhone forward of what the Zhiyun mount was allowing. Thus the iPhone can now be truly balanced as any other camera would be. I hope this is clear enough to help those who are frustrated by the “default” mounting provided by Zhiyun. Yes, it's added expense (minimal), but well worth it considering what you get in return. If you would like to see photos, email me at no_spam_2001 (at) hotmail (dot) com. I’m more than happy to share them with you.
Thanks for sharing… That’s interesting, so you’re able to balance the phone like you would a traditional camera without the gimbal being on? Cool. The only way I’ve been able to do that in the past is turning the phone upside down, especially if I’m using a third-party lens. And that works, but sometimes I don’t like shooting like that as it feels a little bit cumbersome, again especially with a filter and lens etc.
@@iphoneographers With the adjustable mounting plate, external lenses are not an issue. Add to that the gimbal's built-in sliding adjustment, it's just like using a traditional camera. Believe me, no one was more surprised than I was when I saw that it worked.
That would be pushing it. I’ve set up a rig like that but I used a full scale gimbal from Moza, the AirCross 2. . I don’t think the weight is an issue as much as it is the balance and top heaviness. But if you used a very small lens that might work.
Hi. Thanks for the great video. I have been looking everywhere for the shape quick realease plate youre using. But i cvant find it? Does het have type name or number? Or did that one follow with the M3?
I’ve got a link in the description. Evidently the Shape ones are either made by or are identical to the Ulanzi ones - so I use both. The Ulanzi are easily found on Amazon. Not sure why the Shape aren’t anymore though, but again they’re identical minus the name logo.
Hey man, love your videos. I am wondering if it was possible to flip the beast cage, so the lens is closer to the arm body, especially with that quick release?
I haven’t tried that with this setup, but definitely have on other rigs and it works well. Main reason I’ve done that is to have the Lightning port open to the outer side and also if using a heavy lens setup it makes it less top heavy, which is probably why you’re asking. I need to play with some more scenarios like that, but I see no reason why it wouldn’t work. Thanks for watching!
"You wouldn't use this setup for travel style videos or vlogging". Why, specifically? It seems pretty minimal still to me compared to DSLR (extra lenses, etc) on a gimbal. haha Also, thanks for sharing this (and other videos) in such great detail. Just the quick release idea alone in this helps me a great deal haha.
Typically speaking when I travel or do vlogging I much prefer a minimalist setup. This rig is actually on the heavy side even compared to using a mirrorless camera. And there are much better travel options for gimbals like the DJI 0M5, etc. But, it really just depends on what you’re doing. Thanks for watching!

Hello! Looking for a gimbal recommendation for an iphone 13 Pro Max/Moment Case+ Moment Lens & ND Filter setup. It's not a full cage with added microphone and lights, but certainly weighs a lot more than just a bare iPhone phone. Would the M3 here be the way to go? Or could I get by with a beefier phone gimbal? Also, I believe there was an M2-S released in March with a similar weight spec for $100 less than this model, would that be a viable option?
The Smooth 5 could handle that setup, but I’d probably go with the M3 to give you some breathing room. The M2S is similar but not as robust. Also doesn’t have the awesome touchscreen display like the M3, but it is more affordable and will do the job. Good luck!

My main concern at the moment is if the Gimbal can move all the way up, by a hand movement. I am using an iPhone 11 Pro Max with a Beastcage plus filter mounts and filters 67mm (also planning on buying the Ulanzi quick releases you showed). I also want to mount a VideoMicro from Rode, but I believe putting it on top will obviously crash with the gimbal if I raise my hand all the way. Very similar, but this new M3 has stronger motors. I still really like and recommend the G6 Max, but this one is better IMO. I can only assume the G6 Max will get an update soon.
I normally don’t connect it to my phone I just shoot with the app and control it manually, but you can using the ZY Play app (it’s not very good though).
It depends. Only a few apps have “clean HDMI” out Like FiLMiC Pro. Otherwise the way I use it a lot is for a screen recording. Keep in mind (on an iPhone anyway) the signal is compressed and HD only, so it’s not used for high-quality recording. Android might be different.
I’m a fan of the G6 Max and recommend it all the time (and still do), but so far this M3 seems more robust. Since Zhiyun doesn’t publish the payload capacity (which I think is very weird) it’s hard to say. Some people claim it will hold 5 lbs! I don’t believe that. The G6 Max holds 2.65 lbs and my feeling is this one is in that range. But the main thing is these motors seem stronger either way. But again, the G6 Max is great and yes - less expensive.
Terrible. I returned my after 5 day because when I turn up the light, the gimbal vibrated every time. Turned down, got quiet. Also, gimbal would often vibrate or shake a bit when going “low slung” mode (close to floor).
It would seem you didn’t have it balanced properly. I’ve not tried the light, but that would be a weird side-effect. Maybe defective. I’ll test that. But I’ve had zero issues so far. Putting it to a true test on the new short film next week and will report back!
Yeah having a traditional camera is great. But everyone already has a phone that just so happens to shoot great video. So for many they don’t need both.
Not sure, didn’t realize they quit making it. It’s very good. But I’ve started using this one as well for my 15PM… ruclips.net/video/20VjcnWQRkw/видео.htmlsi=-HNjiPkKRS0aqrTi

Please let me know how we can mount iPhone 13 Pro Max if we haven't combo kit ?
Just use any phone mount like from Ulanzi, etc. and attach that to the quick release and balance from there.
Do you prefer this over your Movi Robot?
Yes, especially for these kind of setups.
Hey there I don’t have the counterweight from the movi do you know of one I can get that would be secure enough to add to my M3
This one or similar should work fine… amzn.to/3T2FJdj
Do you guys know what counter weight he is using ? Bought everything but still need to get the counter weight.
Using one from Ulanzi, similar to this amzn.to/3VKzviw. Can’t find the same one right now. But SmallRig and Neewer also sell them.
On 07:00 i saw you use field monitor to Iphone. How to set them? I use Samsung Galaxy S10+
Got a Lightning to HDMI adapter. In your case you would need USB-C to HDMI.
@@iphoneographers Do you have to install apps to set & connect them?
It depends. Only a few apps have “clean HDMI” out Like FiLMiC Pro. Otherwise the way I use it a lot is for a screen recording. Keep in mind (on an iPhone anyway) the signal is compressed and HD only, so it’s not used for high-quality recording. Android might be different.
But doesn’t the Feiyutech G6 Max have a higher payload at a lower cost?
I’m a fan of the G6 Max and recommend it all the time (and still do), but so far this M3 seems more robust. Since Zhiyun doesn’t publish the payload capacity (which I think is very weird) it’s hard to say. Some people claim it will hold 5 lbs! I don’t believe that. The G6 Max holds 2.65 lbs and my feeling is this one is in that range. But the main thing is these motors seem stronger either way. But again, the G6 Max is great and yes - less expensive.
can this shoot vertical videos?
Yes, you just need to manually mount the camera or phone for vertical shooting.
The link for 10% off your filmic pro course in thiE video description is expired. Accidental or true?
Oh, thanks for the heads up! Definitely accidental. Will fix it ASAP.
Can I do this with an iPhone 15 pro ?
Yes indeed.
@@iphoneographers what would a full kit like that cost me ?
@karimdemachkie9291 Depends what all you get, but the cage is about $150, the gimbal is about $250, then other accessories or lenses.
First!!
Yo seriously Rip movi
What happened to movi cinema robot?
Discontinued back in late 2020… www.iphoneographers.tv/post/rip-movi-cinema-robot
Why not buy a real camera for the price of the iPhone? 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah having a traditional camera is great. But everyone already has a phone that just so happens to shoot great video. So for many they don’t need both.
Why did they stop releasing it? Is it suitable for iPhone 15pro max now? What can you recommend that is similar to this device?
Not sure, didn’t realize they quit making it. It’s very good. But I’ve started using this one as well for my 15PM… ruclips.net/video/20VjcnWQRkw/видео.htmlsi=-HNjiPkKRS0aqrTi
