i've been in film and video for just under 30 years, always looking to learn more. Your videos are some of the best thought out and laid out I've ever seen. What a great combination of supporting shots with excellent explanations. I learn something new every time I watch you. Nice Job. Joe
Thanks for the video. I have been using DJI OM6 for vlogging for my kid but was not really holding heavy lenses and filter setting. That is why I got Crane M3 for heavy phone setting which is about 400 to 500g which will allow u to use gimbal compare to OM6. I really love it. OM 6 only for face tracking indoor LOL
Thank you for sharing! It appears that you balanced the iPhone 13 Pro without any issues. I just received M3 for my iPhone 13 Pro Max and can't balance the Forward / Backward axis at all. I updated to firmware v1.76 before I began the balancing process. I followed several video's for balancing which all were consistant with the balancing procedure. I tried three different clamps with just a PolarPro case on with and without the VND filter and with the camera on the top and flipped to the bottom like yours. Clamps used were; Simple light weight spring loaded clamp, PolarPro Lightchaser w/ thumb remote and a lockable aluminum one. Using the PolarPro and aluminum clamps, the iPhone was off by approx. 70% due to falling backward. Balancing was best with the light plastic one (mine looks to be lighter than yours at 4:00 but, still off by at least 25%. I moved on to the other axis adjustments and performed auto calibration with each one being successful which surprised me. With the heavier clamps the balance meters showed the Tilt / Back being in the red but, close to yellow. With the simple spring loaded plastic clamp, it was about 2/3's blue. I'd like to add, the axis motor was getting warm. As you know the weight of the iPhone is behind the center of the base therefore, gravity takes over. I believe using counterweights would have to be close to the same as the iPhone. A better solution would be an adjustable and/or offset plate centering the iPhone in line with the arm instead of behind it. I've been trying to find something like this but so far, no luck. On the other hand, maybe it's my gimbal since yours worked out but, balancing it wouldn't be any different from one to another. Very frustrating to say the least..... 🤔🤔 Thanks again for sharing, you two did an awesome job! 👍
Haven’t ever commented here before but we have been using the 13 pro max to film. A little tip that I just figured out , did you know that if you film in cinematic mode, then choose the file and edit it on the phone itself, you can change the point of focus to wherever you want. Doesn’t matter what you originally took it as. Just helps when the phone has problems in environments with trees leaves etc
Honestly, it's nice to hear a gimbal *may* be needed on shoots. A lot of RUclipsrs tell you to do everything handheld and it can be very difficult for client shoots that are short on time or have to 100% nail it. Definitely might pick this up! Also iPhone + gimbal for helicopter/airplane
you guys inspire me so much with your film school jargon teaching me how to get my own thumb out of my behind and get a clue on filming. so grateful to you two gentle Canadian souls for sharing such profound knowledge. Thanks.
Here's the perfect setup to get rid of that horrible Cinematic mode: Use a Smallrig Phone Cage and combine it with the Moment lenses to get real physical out of focus backgrounds and only use the main lens of the phone since it has the biggest sensor. This will give you the best image quality, more background blurr and better low light capabilities. Use the Moment App to actually dial in your settings instead of using the native iPhone App. All of that in combination with the Gimbal will give you killer shots and possibilities. I actually use the iPhone 13 Pro Max for B-Roll quite a lot as long as there is good lighting. It also performs really well in controlled environments such as Interview setups, and it's perfect for events as travelling with a smaller kit is so much easier. Combine that with the Rode Wireless Go II to get amazing sound, and you're all set.
I was able to balance my a7c with Tamron 17-28mm, would say that is it’s absolute max. And also say there is no sense in getting it just for a phone, considering there are more affordable options for that, or for the price of the M3 you could just get a DJI Pocket 2, which has similar or better image than most phones.
Great cinematic clip and narratage! I haven't imagined mobile filmmaking could be done in such a remarkable way. I can't wait to buy my own CRANE M3 since it is so compact and no sweat to carry both camera and smartphone.
I like this new gimbal M3 . For me I use the equipment I already have at home , My old Zhiyun Crane 2 . With my new iPhone 13 Pro Max on it . I had to add 400 grams of weight because the minimum payload is 500 grams , yes it's heavy but it work . And because of that I'm really interested to change for the new M3. I make a video about the iPhone 13 Pro Max on a Crane 2
Fantastic video illustrating the outstanding professional looking shots you can get with this small gimbal. I have been looking for a small gimbal and this helped me decide on the Crane M3 as my choice. Thanks to both of you for sharing this experience.
So perfect y’all reflected on Vancouver shooting in this video. I just started on the first season of the vlog on Thursday . Just finished the episode where Chris got called a nerd for saying Siri’s directions were protracted
Thanks again for your video! I have this gimbal along with using the Beastcam App in which you can either leave the 13 pro max stabilization on or off. Question if you don't mind; Have you found it better to leave it on or off? Thanks again... Great job you two!
Loved this!!! When Becki was in the leaves it gave like a euphoric avatar kinda video, but watching your videos for awhile now this phone video still blends in nicely with your style! 👌🏾
Lol 😂 Did we pretend we didn’t shoot this all in one day…yes! Lol 😂 CHOICE! 👌🏽 Great job Becki the story boarding did help lol 😂 I can’t draw a straight line straight so you are not alone lol 😂 🤷🏽♀️
Small doesn't mean not professional. I purchased the M3 because its compact, but still built for (and looks) professional. So you can take it on a shoot without your client thinking its a Walmart toy.
I thought your video turned out great! Its amazing what you can do with some video skills, iPhone 13 Pro and a affordable gimbal. Awesome video, and thanks for sharing.
I just came across your video. I just purchased an iPhone 14 and this is inspiring for Not using a 3rd party app. Can you show your color grading process?
I've owned all iterations of Zhiyun M except the last one (as well as few other Zhiyun and Ronin gimbals), and M3 genuinely looks great. M2 was good but it seems like M3 is something I want to own even though I don't need to run gimbal with a phone because I use C70 on RS2. Also - glad you included bloopers!
Filmmaking is (as you all have pointed out already) about the story, as long as you have good audio and lighting the cheapest camera on the market will do. These gimbals are great, but for what you did the smooth Q series or DJI OM series, and not even the newest models, will work and are cheaper. I realize you all are doing this for as a sponsored video, however if you are on a budget and wanting to just use a cellphone this IMO is not the best option unless you're dual hatting it with a mirrorless style camera. But either way great video, I appreciate you all taking the time and effort to product great content!
Hello guys! After this video I’ve been willing to buy the crane m3 but couldn’t find info on precisely what is the workflow with iphone? Which app do you use? They say it doesn’t have integration with the filmic pro What is connectivity with iphone? Can I use it for controlling zoom?
I have a Zhiyun gimbal and I have mono pod that I can fit on the bottom of the gimbal. Think of all the things you could do with mono pod and a gimbal. Ben
I have Zhiyun crane 2. Is it properly I upgrade gear? Instead, I already get the functionality in zhiyun crane 2. If upgrading any recommended stabilizer for either mirrorless and DSLR?
Superb you two and funny😀One question…is it possible to remote from M2 the App Filmic Pro? or iPhone App? like the Smooth 5 can do? Best regards from Germany, Kalle😘
“And chips.” Lol. Awesome vid you two and love the short film. I often overthink my videos and then talk myself out of it. I need to get better at not doing that. Thanks for showing shit can be done, if that makes sense.
Were you able to control any of the iPhone's native camera apple settings from the M 3? Did you have the Bluetooth module? If yes did you test it and if so could it control any of the native camera settings?
Dang, that was shot with an iPhone?? I mean, it's obviously not the iPhone but rather how experienced and talented you are, but it's very cool to see what a pro can do with such gear anyway. Well done! (p.s. I just love the relationship you guys have! Everything about you is goals!)

I know we were so sad, have to go next time! That’s a good question, I haven’t used it so hard for me to say but I’ve heard good things. I’ve been happy with the 6400 and I know it like the back of my hand but I’ve been thinking of upgrading it to the 6600 just for the batteries.
Every time i’m holding something that’s remotely close to the shape of a microphone, I have to say “microphone check” into it.

Where can I get hold of a quick release plate for a Sony ZV1 to use on the Crane M3...?? Thanks
Did you have to buy the clamp holding the phone separately or is it included with the M3
Hey looking at this Crane M3 I’m sure it can handle a iPhone 13 pro max with smallrig and a rodeo Go wireless set up.
As an FYI - you can shoot Log V3 on an iPhone using the Filmic Pro app.... but not in ProRes (yet...)
So good, and yes, HILARIOUS 😂
