This does make sense. Something I’m unsure about though is - are we expected to pull up EVERY SINGLE mistake a learner does in a Part 3 Test? So, let’s say in the first 2 minutes of the Part 3 Test, the learner only checks his left mirror when turning left, and doesn’t also check the centre mirror, do we stop and have a discussion about it even though it did not pose a safety issue?
It potentially could pose a safety risk. It’s important a driver checks to the rear before changing speed or direction. You’d certainly need to incorporate this into the lesson and help your pupil overcome this weakness.
Good evening, sir. I have passed my part 3 today. Thank you so much for your help and support. I am really appreciate it. Videos and RUclips videos are very helpful information sir keep it up, and I would like to thank your dad's his great Acton. It was very helpful to me
Hi Jonathan Although I appreciate some of what you say and you are entitled to your opinion. I disagree with most of this video. It comes across as very test focused. 'Do this to pass the test, and then do what you want'. I'm sure you wouldn't give this advice to a learner, so why give it to an instructor. The 17 competencies go towards making up a good lesson. This should be done in EVERY lesson, not just on a SC. The DVSA have explained on several occasions that although the SC/P3 is 45 minutes long, the lesson should have started prior to picking up the examiner. So the lesson is not 45 minutes. Shouldn't we as trainers be helping instructors to raise their standards instead of teaching them to pass a test? Thank you.
This is how I perceive the Standards Check. I know! It's an original thought and I'm not repeating the same advice which everyone else gives. I choose to perceive the SC as a demonstration of competence; and I choose to view the SC as a 45 minute lesson with a start, middle and end. What happens before the 45 minute SC is irrelevant to the ADI examiner no matter how good a job you might have done. And what happens after the 45 minute SC is equally irrelevant in terms of your SC result. The ADI examiner only cares about what happens within those 45 minutes. You have to identify goals and needs at the start of the 45 minutes (the start of the SC lesson), allow the pupil to practice, and then encourage the pupil to reflect (at the end of the SC lesson). This 45 minute SC lesson needs to be planned and structured to allow you to demonstrate the 17 competences. Everyone is free to perceive the SC however they want to. As with any advice, take it or leave it. You quote: ‘Do this to pass the test, and then do what you want’. I didn’t say that. I’m just saying that perceiving the SC as a demonstration of competence is helpful for me. And it might be helpful for others.
