    Would really like to thank you for this video .. I’ve been really worried about the risk assessment part of my standards check ... I used your mind map (on my lap lol )to keep me on track and make sure I was thorough and didn’t go off piste .. today thanks to it,I got full marks in the risk assessment section and got an A overall .. I’ve recommended your channel to my colleagues .. thanks again ..Sam

My last Standards check was cancelled due to Covid and having re registered will be due a Standards Check soon. Your videos are excellent and provide very good guidance.

    Howard, this is really good content. The way you talk about subjects and explain them is absolutely amazing. You make it really interesting and so easy to understand. If and when you get a chance, could you please do a video on lesson structuring. Like each lesson has a recap of previous lesson, then the new lesson will be introduced, then you'll have a middle and end. An explanation from yourself would be great. As always keep up this impeccable work, it really helps.

    Hi you are brilliant and explain very logically and it makes all sense, i need a help here i am going for my part 3 test in a week and i know due to pandemic test time is shortened and we are only allowed to do quick intro of lesson theme and risk management/agreement etc. and during drive only allowed to stop if dangerous fault is witnessed .... so question is for example you said in this video to pull up some where safe before getting to traffic light to do briefing to reduce risk,, are we still allowed to stop to brief pupil now in May 2022 ? or we have to do this briefing and agreement right at the start of the test..?
    your answer will help me hugely in my up coming test.. thanks

    • @How-2-drive
      @How-2-drive  2 года назад +1

      Do any briefings or explanations of new topics prior to test so you can keep moving. You CAN pull up briefly to change the plan or help your pupil understand what they should have done differently following a safety critical incident. Or even if your pupil doesn’t understand something and you want to ask if they’d like to spend some time today to resolve the problem. Keep it short and to the point tho!
      So you have 45 mins, 40 mins wheels moving.

    • @How-2-drive

      Thank you. My advice if its real pupil or role play, have a conversation with the pupil, find out how they feel with their progress, ask what do they think they need to do. Listen and then agree a plan for the lesson. Then it will be client centred as opposed to instructor led.

    Thank you so much for your videos. I really appreciate them. Especially now that practical training has come to an end because of the new covid 19 winter lockdown, so helpful to keep thinking like an ADI. After watching your video I wonder how the risk management conversation with the client works when you're doing a part 3 test or SC check during covid 19 restrictions? Is it correct that you have to get moving as soon as possible once the examiner gets in the car, if so could you make a reference to the previous risk management conversation that you had prior to the examiner getting in the car? Once the examiner gets in then discuss the change in risk profile with the client. Should you repeat everything you've already discussed with the client about risk while on the move for the sake of the examiner? Thank you once again.

Knowing when to instruct and when to say nothing. Working together in equal partnership to help the pupil achieve their goals! Have you got Practical reaching skills for Driving Instructors?

    If on a part 3 on sharing of responsibility you ask the pupil about say roundabout if she need any help, and the pupil says yes. But a lesson you have already done with the pupil, does it mean that you have talk about that and sort the issue before continuing.

    • @How-2-drive
      @How-2-drive  4 года назад

      IBRAHIM ISSIFU it. The lesson must focus on the needs of your pupil. You need to recognise if they need help and agree a suitable plan to ensure learning and skill development takes place, just like any other lesson. Your Part 3 test is just another lesson

    There does seem to be some conflicting opinions among different trainers as to what constitutes RISK management on a SC/Part 3. Some say it is simply about ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES, others say, as you do Howard, that it is also about dealing with hazards. Obviously, there is a potential risk when dealing with hazards but is that what the DVSA is looking for? Having been an ADI for 15 years in the past, left and now returning (and having to go through the tests again) I have also had a trainer say, "just keep doing what you've always done", implying that it's what all good instructors should be doing anyway. I wonder if there is a tendency to make this more complicated than it needs to be. I guess the 'proof of the pudding will be in the eating'. I have my part 3 coming up in early October and have watched probably 100's of videos from various trainers. I'm not sure that some of them are doing me any good! However, you Howard have a great way of explaining things and your advice and tips I'm sure will be invaluable to all PDI's, me included! Keep up the good work.
