Red-light-running crash test demonstration

  • More than 800 people died in crashes involving red light running in 2016, an increase of 17 percent since 2012, an IIHS analysis shows. The increase comes as fewer U.S. communities are using red light cameras to enforce the law and reduce crashes.
    This demonstration crash of a 2010 Ford F-150 striking a 2007 Chrysler Sebring recreates a real-life red-light-running collision. In the real crash, which occurred in Yuma, Ariz., in 2012, the Sebring's driver was severely injured.
    To encourage cities and localities to use automated enforcement, four national safety organizations have developed a red light camera checklist for local policymakers, law enforcement agencies and transportation officials. Released by AAA, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Safety Council, the checklist provides practical instructions for planning, implementing and evaluating red light camera programs, including steps to help communities build and maintain public support.

    Roundabouts aren't a silver bullet, but they can highly reduce this type of crash and, imo, they're severely under utilised in the US.

      In the U.S we have places where there is an intersection every couple of yards. Isn’t possible. As for Rurual areas, they don’t permit left turns. You get off loop around and then a light will allow you to turn.

      Roundabouts cost at least $3 million each.

      Alot of other smaller countries use the roundabout because there aren't as much roads around like the united states

      Nobody in the US knows the rules and how to use roundabouts like they do in Europe. People here stop in the middle of it, or just don’t pay attention to the right of way rules. Also, a lot of roundabouts that are in the US are awfully designed, like having a gas station on it which is super dangerous and inefficient.

      There’s videos of roundabouts being implemented into some areas in the U.S and they literally have no idea how to use them. Roundabouts are great but Americans would probably cause more accidents with them unless they get retrained on how to drive

      Lets consider this to be an EV. Chances are, it would explode or catch fire and the driver and more than likely, passengers wouldn't have time to get out. They would be ---------------toast.

    Wow its almost as if you brought this upon yourself, these cars only stay on the pavement, why does a utility vehicle need to be so tall? Not only is it more dangerous but it's much less practical, you can achieve the same amount of bed space with a shorter vehicle

    This is also an example of why using a giant truck as a regular commuter vehicle is stupid and dangerous. If this was a car-on-car accident the impact to the Chrysler would have been much less severe.

    I survived one...a Toyota truck t-boned me at an intersection and AVOIDED an INSTANT death when a semi truck with a trailer cut a red light from the left while my light was green, about to make a left turn.

  • @johnwight6041
    @johnwight6041 2 месяца назад

    I think people can make the risk of this type of accident extremely low by simply looking both ways before going through the intersection when it’s green. It’s saved me a couple times from getting t boned. I learned this working as a driver for UPS and adopted it for myself
