  • Short video on a really cool piece of vintage test equipment I purchased at the Orlando Hamcation 2024 Tailgate for a few dollars. We discuss the instrument , how to tune and operate the instrument, perform a test, and compare the results obtained to those obtained from a legacy Marconi service monitor testing the same radio. Together we can preserve radio history saving artifacts such as this and sharing what we have learned.

And as Bret stated before, “the real action at Hamcation is in the tailgate and swap buildings!”
Great find and glimpse into the past of “how we used to do it” these discreet test appliances are still viable and work fine for those on a budget.

Dang you have some nice equipment on that bench! I only wish I could make it to Hamcation on the first day - when all of these types of items are still for sale. Saturday is just too late for finds like this!

The good stuff at the Dayton Hamvention goes fast the night before opening in swaps between the sellers in the flea market. Quite common in all swap meets. If you want in on the deals find a buddy who is planning to go sell stuff and have him get you a sellers pass, you get in early for the deals but don’t forget to pay him for the pass and give him a hand during the show so he can get out as well.
      73 and happy hunting!

@@Subgunman Exactly so ! Its one of the main reasons I tailgate every year. The experience alone is worth the expense IMHO.

Did that for 20 years, from 1985 until 2006, then I moved to Europe. Not much around here now. There is a big show up in Germany in June but nothing like our hamfests. Now I have to rebuild the power supply to my 1200S. Have to ID all the electrolytics and replace them, hopefully it will wake up again.

@@Subgunman Does that use a big switching supply ?

I love old test equipment. That Model 920 was a nice find. Now you need a Sinadder! Was your DUT an HT 1000?

I do too ! I Have a Sinadder 3 and an RF millivolter (with probe) in my collection. Helper instruments are good stuff. Radio is a JT1000. I picked up some other cool stuff that I will be making videos on. Thanks for watching !
