I was going to say. I personally wouldn't say getting the game from free from Square makes it an add since you can still give an honest review. And if it's bad you can say it's bad. Usually ads are someone is being paid to say certain things. But if square is making that policy then all you can do is be compliant. Great vid as always.
Skip to year 2060. I'm now 73 years old. Sitting there next to my playstation 32. Finally downloading the final part of final fantasy 7 remake. After spending probably well over $500 on all the parts of it, I will finally defeat sephiroth and I will be able to die at peace.
So here's my opinion! For me this is the FIRST time I play this game. Never had a chance to play the original version of the game but lots of people told me that it's one of the best video games in the world. I originally not a fan of the FF series, however I started to pay attention to this series since I played FF 15. FF 15 was OK in my opinion, not that %100 perfect game but it's a must play FF game. Then out of the sudden, , Square Enix decided to remake FF 7 and everyone went crazy about it. Even my cousin who has quit video game for a while, decided to come back to video game one more time. I remember about a month ago he told me that he couldn't believe that this FF7 is coming in April and for him this game was his childhood. My cousin was a big fan of this series and especially FF7. He kept telling me to grab the game and play it as soon as possible. So, I bought my FF7 remake about 2 days ago and still haven't finished due to my countless homework. But here's how I think about the game, I f***cking love it. Right from the first moment of the game, I was shocked and I swear this game was epic. After an hour I started to feel like gosh how long has it been since game companies started to pay attention to the storyline of their games. I mean video games on these days are great but their storylines are not that deep like what they used to be in the past. FF7 was different, I just can't wait to finish homework and get back to the game. I'm at chapter 4 right now and everything is just wonderful so far, Seventh Heaven, Tifa, Cloud ... gosh they're wonderful. It's kinda weird because I never had this feeling back in the day when I was playing FF 15, I still think that FF 15 was missing something, I'm not really sure. FF7 was different, I absolutely fell in love with it. Now I understand why people love this game so much and why Cloud has become one of the most Iconic characters in the game industry. I've read the comments and some people said that they were a little bit disappointed because it didn't meet their satisfaction. They were disappointed because It was episodic not a full game. For me, I've never played the original version so I don't know how the game is supposed to be like. I don't care what people say about this game. For now I don't have any problem with it, It has proven to me that this is one of my favorite games of all time. I don't know how it's going to be in the future but everything is great for now. Great read Ethan Winters (LOOOOL!) Huge FF fan here, I've almost played all games in the series. Honestly, FF15 was my worst in the series. It was bad. FF7 my best and this remake did it justice, it was really really good
Just finished it myself. Had to wait to watch. My play through was 47 hours on normal, doing everything available. It lived up to the hype. Wish the textures were better, it was the only downside.
Honestly, for me, Midgar was good but honestly leaving Midgar is when the game really clicked with me. When I think about my favorite FF7 moments it's not the Midgar stuff. Maybe that's the point, to make Midgar seem more important, but for me I just wanted to see the stuff outside of Midgar.
When this remake was first announced I basically had no faith in Square Enix and predicted that if they even were able to get the game out the door it would take place entirely within Midgar. Then they announced the remake would be episodic, and I predicted the first episode would never leave Midgar. Seems I was technically right about that part, but thankfully my long-time dread that the game would be a dumpster fire seems to have been proven wrong. I still really wonder if they have a solid plan for the rest of the game though, because the outside world is where the "wacky 1990's JRPG" dial really gets cranked up. They surprised me by actually putting Cloud in a dress, but will they... actually have an open overworld map? That RTS mini-game at Fort Condor? Preserve the "optional" nature of Yuffie and Vincent as party members? Put Barret -- and Red XIII balancing on his hind legs, pretending to be a human -- in sailor suits? Will we get the Tifa vs Scarlet slap fight? Snowboarding? Will Emerald Weapon still be underwater? (that never made any sense, to be honest, I would be fine if they changed that aspect of it)
Weird. I feel completely the opposite. I had played all the us ff games at that point and to me, the game fell off a cliff after Midgar. The plot is mostly a rehash of Chrono trigger and FF6 smashed together and once that started to become apparent? Yuck. Not a fan of 7.
well yeah cuz midgar was basically an after thought in the original, so ofc it wouldnt be that big of an interest for original fans. The point is to expand on the universe and make things that they glossed over have their own fleshed out moments.
I never played this game when it came out. Got the Switch version in anticipation of the Remake. I honestly hated the over world. Felt like a pain in the ass way to just drag out the game time. "Okay, onto the next area." "Sorry, no. You're gone to need to catch a Chocobo!" "Well, as long as it will get me over all of this flat, boring world, so I can get to the places of interest." "...Well..." "....Damnit!" Like, I get it must have been amazing back then. But to me, the open world was as fun as a loading screen. All it did was impeded my progress. Having vast fields of nothing as I slowly traverse it, just to go from point A to B, wasn't fun at all. And sure, there's areas you can go to that are off the beaten path, to 'explore'. But it never felt like it served a purpose, beyond creating an illusion that this world was big. Big, flat, low poly, with a lot of the map looking the same. It just hasn't aged well at all. :/

I love what SE has been able to do with character development and growth, the exploration of side characters' lives, etc. I'm especially blown away with Aerith. Like, the sass on her is amazing! From what I recall in the original, she always had this almost overwhelming air of purity and innocence; in the Remake, that's still definitely there, but it's also very clear she's grown up in the slums of Midgar, and can hold her own handily.
I'm really excited for this, but seeing as how my favorite character is Cid and I'll probably be 84 before we make it to Rocket Town I can't say I'm not at least a little disheartened that this is only a sliver of the full game.
I love this game. They did a fantastic job!! My younger self approves. Glad they expanded on the original and happy that theres more to come. Highly recommended

im afraid that there wont be data conversion and each part will just stand on its own. that would be a crazy dissapointment almost as much as the fact that i wont get my pre orderd hard copy till corona clears up
i will also say 10 years would be alot longer then i would think most of the assets and such are there they dont have to build a game from scratch every time at least and there were 3 disks originally but disk 3 was largely extras/ the fact you could visit the entire game so i think 2 more full title maaaaybe 3 releases would rap it up. im curious what they do with the world map or if there even will be one i have a feeling it will just be fast travel and unlock new areas thru questing/ talking to npcs.
Yeah, I was really thinking about how they might implement the world map, and I don’t know if it’s feasible to consider a whole open world considering how big it would have to be, and then considering how much detail they are putting into each of the city/town areas... I don’t imagine they would consider redoing how they did flying the Highwind around a small scale map? Maybe they could just scale everything up a little more. Other RPGs are able to have large environments along with detailed towns, but I’m not sure it would fit with the hyper-realistic look of this game and considering how long it took them to develop FFXV which is a similar idea but on an even smaller scale.
Dillon oickle I mean what other way is there? chapter two start everybody at the same level, like level 10, everybody has the same items and experience, materia, etc. there is literally no way they would do something like that.
I think the world mal will end up working like it did it FFX where h kind of just visit each and all the in between travel will just be done for you coz each episode will be in chapters! It’s not gunna end up being an open world game like we all want it will episodic the whole way through

So, having the complete versión of this game within a timeframe of ten years (assuming they got almost everything beyond plans and concept) is sadly a given. What concerns me the most is how every single part of game is going to be tied to each other, in terms of save files, gameplay, etc so that in the end it becomes one full complete experience instead of several different ones. And of course, do not forget we are talking about at least 3 different generations of consoles (PS4, PS5 and most likely the next one as well) which will do nothing but make everything way more complicated... Im no expert folks, but achieving the full remake in a satisfactory way is becoming less and less likely.
What Awesome Genome said -- this is a sequel to FF7 (Hint: Back to the Future/The Terminator) and the story drastically changes after Midgar. Therefore they can probably write the new story to tie up in just 1 more game.
When I heard it wasn't even a third of the original game I became way less interested. I understand how massive the original was and how long that would take to recreate but spreading this across console generations could be concerning. I am also sure that at some point they will get lazy and drastically cut out large parts of the story that were important in the original.

I needed on normal mode almost 40 hours, but I did every sidequest and I played the minigames a bit. This game took me through all emotions and I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a game like this. It is beautigul and exciting and you have so much of action^^ It is better than every action film!
If you pick classic the game is on easy mode. Plus you can still move the characters around. If you want more of a challenge just deal with the new combat and pick normal because it’s never gonna operate like the original. Plus you can hit X and pause combat no matter what anyway.
to me this doesn’t look and/or feel at all like my experience of FFVII and is more of a continuity of the huge disconnect between Squaresoft and Square Enix.Its not that it does not look good but its far from being Final Fantasy at all. FF died a long,long time ago.
SushiHamster it’s weird that FF has gotten so different (and a lot of ppl don’t like that) and in some ways worse. Meanwhile SE just published arguably the best dragon quest game ever. Weird how differently different IP’s can be treated.
I received my 1st class edition two days early and I've been playing nearly non-stop. The game is fantastic. I love the old game and this one just enhances the experience. Bravo Square Enix! Bravo!
Its the waiting that sucks. Even after waiting forever already, we get less than a 3rd of the story. I'd take quality over speed but only to a point. Another decade to get the "complete" remake would just be cruel.
Yeah, I don't understand how old players of the original game even accept it. I don't. If you haven't played the original during its release, then the Remake is probably great for you. But for someone like me it feels like a nostalgia-infused cash grab when you call it a remake and you remake like 8% of the original game. I get that it's difficult to do such a big story justice, but frankly I'd accept a lot of downgrades in order for the entire game to be released in one package.
@@princemwamba5230 We get so much more backstory on the characters, and more character development, it is very silly to want the older short story. We already have that, it's on multiple platforms and you can play it right now. This is a remake and should be different.
@@Krytern yes but it shouldn't have to be spread out over who knows how many different versions you could make it 70+ hours on one disc or two for 60 bucks while still giving enough backstory to the key characters hell persona 5 at it's fastest takes like 80 hours to beat all one disc even with royal its adding extra stuff but no one could complain about the original not having enough content
I don't know if this is going to be 10+ years. Mosat sequels seem to be every 2 years (Tomb Raider, Mass Effect, Uncharted, etc.). They already announced they've been working on the next game for over a year, are using the same engine, and same combat structure. I think tweak some things, but I believe they will be 2 to 3 years between games at most. Also, I think this will be a trillogy. Midgar was the most dense part of the original game. The third disk of the original only had side quests that weren't closed off, the world map, and the final dungeon. I think the next part will be Kalm to Aerith's death and then game three will be Forgotten City to the Northern Crater.
6:26 I'm sorry but "Crazy chocobo" from XIII-2 is still the best chocobo theme imo, btw as a little bit of a tangent: my favorite version of the "Prelude" is the one from Type 0.
I'm guessing there will be three parts. A lot of people massively overestimate how long it takes to finish the original FF7, while assuming each part of the remake will be of equal length. A bare bones run through of the original game can be done in under 20 hours if you know what you're doing. Obviously you get more mileage if you do all the optional stuff, although it's worth pointing out that Ruby and Emerald weren't actually in the original game release in Japan so I'm wondering if they'll be included in one of the remake segments. That said, I expect part two to lead up to the events in the City of Ancients, with the final and third finishing the the series. Considering assets being reused to a certain extent, I'd estimate 2-3 years between each release, meaning we should have the final product in 4-6 years time with some luck. I could be off here obviously, but I'd be willing to place at least a small bet on my estimations.
Square basically saying a big “fuck you” for giving us your money with that ending tbh. Lets be honest. They played on nostalgia to deceive us. Cause you know they wouldn’t have bought the game knowing they were going to basically just switch up the plot/story with timeline garbage . Its basically a cop out. The ending gives me no faith in any the final fantasy series as a whole going forward. Square should feel ashamed. And i seriously hope someone comes at them for false marketing/promotion. Because i for one feel ripped off.
Well they are adding an changing stuff. Some of the stuff they change will affect the story later on so it can finish in the next game or the 100th sequel.
Honestly I was skeptical at first too, but after playing it, the amount of character development and world building for this game is so huge, I don't think they could have done it any other way. I do hope It won't take too long in between, one every 2 years at least is what I'd like to see. I also hope they don't make too many games either, but seeing how surprised I was with how good it is, not sure if I mind anymore or not.
unless they fix it from the demo, classic mode is not turn base it more auto play with the option of selecting a few things. Basically 24 hours for the bare game... what happen to our 60 hours jrpg from this series?
None of the previous FF games ever reach 60 hours on casual playthrough so I don't know what the fuck you're talking about. You clearly never even play the games from this series to begin with.
To be fair. The original is not that long either. I beat it couple of months ago again, took me 27h with all side qs done except chocobo breeding and the waepons ofc. But i feel you, i hate that square split the game up. And I got the game early and I think it's a good game, but i prefer the turn based combat of the original. Let's just say I'm not so hyped for the next part lol
I love ff7. It changed my life as a 12 year old in 1998. But I'm sorry this remake had 5 years+ to recreate magic and it lacks SO much. You look at a game like horizon zero dawn. That game has graphics, open world, acting, storyline, true weapon and skill building. Ff7 remake only has the success it does due to the name and nostalgia. If it was from a random designer and called "Avalanche: Free the people" it would get a 7/10 and no one would talk about it.
The "pixelation" are asset streaming issues. The I/O is pulling data and a lot of those background and minor textures are being pulled on a low priority queued thread. Those textures should pop into high res eventually, depending on load. Probably either a low priority thread queue not being managed well or a bug causing events in that queue to get dumped prematurely.
Considering that the game isn't officially out for everyone yet, I bet Square-Enix tosses out an update on the 10th that fixes some of those graphical problems. Fingers crossed anyway.
@@jasonyim2027 I honestly dont think it falls under PS4 limitations as most games have been able to render background well beyond that a "still image." When was the last time you saw the background looking that atrocious in a AAA PS4 title? I mean for heaven's sake, it literally is a jpeg image. They could've at least added some illumination on the building's lights to give it some sense of realism. It blatantly looks like an image that the foreground was layered on to. They clearly were slacking on this aspect of a game.
@@laribaalbert there seems to be LOD and texture streaming issues in some of the outdoor areas that are most likely a bug. They literally created thousands of unique assets so each sector looks unique, they didn't skimp on graphics here.
Looks really cool. The imagination used to compensate for the simple graphics of the original and how you remember it is a hard thing to match with a remake like this, but it seems they pulled it off, and then some!

I got the game Friday and I feel it’s an absolute masterpiece I’m at the end of chapter 8 so I’m so excited to see chapter 9 now the music is incredible the way they have upgraded let the battles begin blows my mind great review others seem negative and keep stating it’s not a full game but we already knew that we’ll done keep it up
Dude they sed they had so much content in midgar its a full game..... But it seems they lied n padded it out with generic side quests. Its the shortest 3d final fantasy game there is, JRPGs tend to have near 100 hours of content most the time even back in ps1 days

Its no Masterpiece. The ending is kingdom hearts tier trash. There's a lot of nostalgia in the air....Some reviewers are somewhat banging on the ending but not enough. All they had to do was remake it but they changed the ending completely. Square enix is finished after this. Trials of Mana will be the superior remake in April.
@@spiritualsoul2711 so far, Final Fantasy is considered to be a critical success and will most definitely be a commercial success. So no, they aren't done with anything after this. Count in the fact that they just announced a Nier remake, things are looking up. It was pretty obvious this game wasn't going to be an exact retread of the original the moment they announced it was going to be episodic. I doubt that nostalgia is blinding any large group of people. If anything, its blinding you from seeing a good game because it's not a 1:1 repaste of the original. And how is Kingdom hearts trash? If it was trash then it wouldn't be as popular as it was. Kingdom hearts 3 got panned for its lackluster story pacing but other than that, the story is pretty serviceable
I agree with nearly everything he said. I have also finished the game. 44hours. The main story on normal will take most people 35 hours or more. The game is not perfect but it really is close to it in my opinion. Square has completely exceeded my expectations. 9.5/10

My favorite FF7 moment had to be when Cloud and Barret were talking on the train about people living in the slums. I think it was that point in the game that hooked me. "Its like this train, can only go where its rails take it." Later in the game they tribute this moment with the whole crew. I can't wait to see Barret and Cid together in the same party. Below I've listed how I feel the games will be Sold. These are the potential ending points of each game. Part 1 Leaving Midgar Part 2 Leaving Cosmo Canyon Part 3 Meteor /Weapons appear Part 4 Reunion/Sephiroth
Good question as to how many parts there will be. They stretched out Midgar to 35-40 hours, but I imagine they could just as easily condense future parts to keep this to a trilogy.
That's what I'm afraid of, they either rush the other parts and make a mess with less story depth and everything mush together, or they gonna launch like 5 more parts.

FF7 purists who complain about the new combat system not being "turn-based" like the original have forgotten that the original wasn't turn-based either - it was ATB based. The only difference is that Remake gives you actions to perform in the interim to charge your ATB faster.

Good review, but your gripe about how you're always going to the next area came off as odd to me, considering you weren't hitting the side content that would've kept you in each area longer.
100% loved it. I truly feel like you're missing the best part of the core experience by playing on classic (you'll get good at it if that's the worry) but i like that the game encourages you to play through it multiple times. The combat to me felt like the vision of the future action/RPG combat that Chrono Trigger promised us in terms of making gameplay and cinematics a seamless experience that isn't reductive to either.
Johnny, I would highly recommend playing on at least regular difficulty. Maybe even hard since you initially beat it? "Classic Mode" makes the artificial intelligence (A.I.) set to easy. You may get more out of the combat, and in turn the game, by more difficult and engaging combat.
I'd be mindful, I've been lambasted for thinking it was a convoluted mess. Some folk are absolutely hellbent on defending this game as the best thing to happen to the franchise.
The ending isn't bad, it's bad because you don't like change. You are afraid of change. You want it the be the came as the original game, that's the problem. You need to stop being a dumb purist.
I've been playing on normal mode, and I definitely have some opinions about the combat. It feels alright to play but the way the battle system works is not as skill based as it is just very very high maintenance, like unnecessarily so. I'm 7 chapters in and at this point only playing for the story and characters, the gameplay is hooking me less the more I play it. Still hoping that changes though, I got a long way to go.
I thought the writing in the demo was bad and cliché. Square really didn't go with the times. From a narrative point other games have upped the standard, like Witcher 3

I was so bummed out when I found out this wasn't the full game. Such a long wait for only the first part of FF7. At this point I'm just going to wait for a complete edition with the whole thing in one package. I'm sure it will be a 10 year wait.
lol. people make no efforts in proper research for their favourite hobbies that it's almost unbelievable...when the foundations of a game are done, it becomes a lot easier to produce a sequel. That is the reason why games like Uncharted were released smoothly over time. FF VII has its own engine, same used to develop FF XV which main reason for its really long production time came down to that same engine development. The release of FF XV was very likely one of the reasons why Square Enix announced the Remake so early in time, back then production of the Remake barely started, but were confident on the capabilities of the engine. So expect a 2 year wait at most for the next one, maybe less depending of the complexity of the world map and how long has that been in development in parallel. The 3rd one will definitely be a 1 year wait, there won't be anything else for it that will require a major feature. So 3 years time for the next 2, unless ofc there is another pandemic or worldwide tragedic event slowing down development or next generation demanding a bit of rework pushing it to 4 years time.
Not only the save file to transfer over issue but, how will the next part connect the outside world with Midgar? Say you wanted to go back to the city, are you going to have to close the game to open the other game with Midgar, or will the outside world and the city be combined in the same new game, or is the current Midgar game going to have the new game as an expansion pack? I guess we will find out in a few years

They had a sale on the ff7 on the e-shop for 7.99 recently, I picked it up and have been enjoying it. It is still worth playing for sure, very good game.

I'm 31 hours in (I'm upto shinra HQ) it's just absolutely incredible - the original FF7 is my favourite game of all time but I think this remake might be taking over it when it all comes out I can't wait for it to hit PC, its only downfall is the fact it's on ancient hardware
You could have the best hardware but could still make the worst game. Example persona 5 is a ps3 game, but it's better than 85% of games on ps4,Xbox one and PC.

Between RE2-3 and FFVII i'm in my glory. 20 years iv'e wanted remakes for these games, and here they are! The demo blew my mind with how loyal it was to the source material, while being fresh and new, everything from the environments down to the little speech bubbles they included and the amazingly redone soundtrack. Please tell me they included Under the Rotting Pizza!
I already bought the game, I'm a diehard fan of ff7 since it was my first rpg, but with the info we have today, I sincerely wouldnt be able to reccomend to someone to buy the game. The reason is because you just won't be able to enjoy the full story of the game in one playthrough. That's criminal. SE dropped the ball here. I would have been willing to pay SE their 240 bucks for 4 parts of the game even if they all came out today, but separating so much of the game will take out so much from it in terms of enjoyment, and I feel for the new generation of gamers that wont be able to enjoy this story fully in one go. It's just not the same. When ff7 came out, I played it non stop. My friends and I only talked about this game for months. It was a journey. Today, we get to play a SMALL part of the game for around 40 hours and then we completely stop and need to wait we dont know how long for the next part. Let's say it takes 1 year for part 2, by then new games will have come out, and not only that but we would have lost track of a few details from the game. In its quest to monetize the game, SE just did the greatest disservice it could have done to ff7. They could have easily released the game in two parts instead of 4, and made this first part reach all the way into Juno maybe or a bit further, and that would have been enough content to at least put gamers to play for HOURS and also grind levels. But the game as it is now, will truly hurt the ff7 game we all knew and loved for the new gen.
It should have gone EXACTLY to Aerith's death. And then there should have been ONE more part. In my opinion that would have been the perfect amount of fleshing out.
The worst part is that Square completely revamped the story and removed some of the best parts of the original story while making those stupid dementors play a central role through the whole game.
I don’t think it will take that long to wrap it up. I’m sure a lot of people (myself included) will wait for the “complete” edition to play it and Square knows that.
That's the only issue with how they're doing this I think They won't get the big money until the final part comes out but I think it will be finished within 4 or maybe stretched to 5 years

So here's my opinion!
For me this is the FIRST time I play this game. Never had a chance to play the original version of the game but lots of people told me that it's one of the best video games in the world. I originally not a fan of the FF series, however I started to pay attention to this series since I played FF 15. FF 15 was OK in my opinion, not that %100 perfect game but it's a must play FF game. Then out of the sudden, , Square Enix decided to remake FF 7 and everyone went crazy about it. Even my cousin who has quit video game for a while, decided to come back to video game one more time. I remember about a month ago he told me that he couldn't believe that this FF7 is coming in April and for him this game was his childhood. My cousin was a big fan of this series and especially FF7. He kept telling me to grab the game and play it as soon as possible. So, I bought my FF7 remake about 2 days ago and still haven't finished due to my countless homework. But here's how I think about the game, I f***cking love it. Right from the first moment of the game, I was shocked and I swear this game was epic. After an hour I started to feel like gosh how long has it been since game companies started to pay attention to the storyline of their games. I mean video games on these days are great but their storylines are not that deep like what they used to be in the past. FF7 was different, I just can't wait to finish homework and get back to the game. I'm at chapter 4 right now and everything is just wonderful so far, Seventh Heaven, Tifa, Cloud ... gosh they're wonderful. It's kinda weird because I never had this feeling back in the day when I was playing FF 15, I still think that FF 15 was missing something, I'm not really sure. FF7 was different, I absolutely fell in love with it. Now I understand why people love this game so much and why Cloud has become one of the most Iconic characters in the game industry. I've read the comments and some people said that they were a little bit disappointed because it didn't meet their satisfaction. They were disappointed because It was episodic not a full game. For me, I've never played the original version so I don't know how the game is supposed to be like. I don't care what people say about this game. For now I don't have any problem with it, It has proven to me that this is one of my favorite games of all time. I don't know how it's going to be in the future but everything is great for now. Best game ever!

Great read Ethan Winters (LOOOOL!) Huge FF fan here, I've almost played all games in the series. Honestly, FF15 was my worst in the series. It was bad. FF7 my best and this remake did it justice, it was really really good

Honestly, for me, Midgar was good but honestly leaving Midgar is when the game really clicked with me. When I think about my favorite FF7 moments it's not the Midgar stuff.
Maybe that's the point, to make Midgar seem more important, but for me I just wanted to see the stuff outside of Midgar.
When this remake was first announced I basically had no faith in Square Enix and predicted that if they even were able to get the game out the door it would take place entirely within Midgar. Then they announced the remake would be episodic, and I predicted the first episode would never leave Midgar. Seems I was technically right about that part, but thankfully my long-time dread that the game would be a dumpster fire seems to have been proven wrong.
I still really wonder if they have a solid plan for the rest of the game though, because the outside world is where the "wacky 1990's JRPG" dial really gets cranked up. They surprised me by actually putting Cloud in a dress, but will they... actually have an open overworld map? That RTS mini-game at Fort Condor? Preserve the "optional" nature of Yuffie and Vincent as party members? Put Barret -- and Red XIII balancing on his hind legs, pretending to be a human -- in sailor suits? Will we get the Tifa vs Scarlet slap fight? Snowboarding? Will Emerald Weapon still be underwater? (that never made any sense, to be honest, I would be fine if they changed that aspect of it)
Weird. I feel completely the opposite. I had played all the us ff games at that point and to me, the game fell off a cliff after Midgar. The plot is mostly a rehash of Chrono trigger and FF6 smashed together and once that started to become apparent? Yuck. Not a fan of 7.
well yeah cuz midgar was basically an after thought in the original, so ofc it wouldnt be that big of an interest for original fans. The point is to expand on the universe and make things that they glossed over have their own fleshed out moments.
I never played this game when it came out. Got the Switch version in anticipation of the Remake.
I honestly hated the over world. Felt like a pain in the ass way to just drag out the game time.

Like, I get it must have been amazing back then. But to me, the open world was as fun as a loading screen. All it did was impeded my progress. Having vast fields of nothing as I slowly traverse it, just to go from point A to B, wasn't fun at all.
And sure, there's areas you can go to that are off the beaten path, to 'explore'. But it never felt like it served a purpose, beyond creating an illusion that this world was big.
Big, flat, low poly, with a lot of the map looking the same. It just hasn't aged well at all. :/

I love what SE has been able to do with character development and growth, the exploration of side characters' lives, etc. I'm especially blown away with Aerith. Like, the sass on her is amazing! From what I recall in the original, she always had this almost overwhelming air of purity and innocence; in the Remake, that's still definitely there, but it's also very clear she's grown up in the slums of Midgar, and can hold her own handily.
I'm really excited for this, but seeing as how my favorite character is Cid and I'll probably be 84 before we make it to Rocket Town I can't say I'm not at least a little disheartened that this is only a sliver of the full game.

i will also say 10 years would be alot longer then i would think most of the assets and such are there they dont have to build a game from scratch every time at least and there were 3 disks originally but disk 3 was largely extras/ the fact you could visit the entire game so i think 2 more full title maaaaybe 3 releases would rap it up. im curious what they do with the world map or if there even will be one i have a feeling it will just be fast travel and unlock new areas thru questing/ talking to npcs.
Yeah, I was really thinking about how they might implement the world map, and I don’t know if it’s feasible to consider a whole open world considering how big it would have to be, and then considering how much detail they are putting into each of the city/town areas... I don’t imagine they would consider redoing how they did flying the Highwind around a small scale map? Maybe they could just scale everything up a little more. Other RPGs are able to have large environments along with detailed towns, but I’m not sure it would fit with the hyper-realistic look of this game and considering how long it took them to develop FFXV which is a similar idea but on an even smaller scale.
What possible reason would they have for doing that..? Not sure why anyone would even think its a possibility
Dillon oickle I mean what other way is there? chapter two start everybody at the same level, like level 10, everybody has the same items and experience, materia, etc. there is literally no way they would do something like that.
I think the world mal will end up working like it did it FFX where h kind of just visit each and all the in between travel will just be done for you coz each episode will be in chapters! It’s not gunna end up being an open world game like we all want it will episodic the whole way through

So, having the complete versión of this game within a timeframe of ten years (assuming they got almost everything beyond plans and concept) is sadly a given. What concerns me the most is how every single part of game is going to be tied to each other, in terms of save files, gameplay, etc so that in the end it becomes one full complete experience instead of several different ones. And of course, do not forget we are talking about at least 3 different generations of consoles (PS4, PS5 and most likely the next one as well) which will do nothing but make everything way more complicated... Im no expert folks, but achieving the full remake in a satisfactory way is becoming less and less likely.

Don’t worry, this isn’t ff7 original this is a sequel to ff7 original. The events of disc 2 are going to happen in a completely different way.
What Awesome Genome said -- this is a sequel to FF7 (Hint: Back to the Future/The Terminator) and the story drastically changes after Midgar. Therefore they can probably write the new story to tie up in just 1 more game.
When I heard it wasn't even a third of the original game I became way less interested. I understand how massive the original was and how long that would take to recreate but spreading this across console generations could be concerning. I am also sure that at some point they will get lazy and drastically cut out large parts of the story that were important in the original.

I needed on normal mode almost 40 hours, but I did every sidequest and I played the minigames a bit.
This game took me through all emotions and I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a game like this.
It is beautigul and exciting and you have so much of action^^ It is better than every action film!

If you pick classic the game is on easy mode. Plus you can still move the characters around. If you want more of a challenge just deal with the new combat and pick normal because it’s never gonna operate like the original. Plus you can hit X and pause combat no matter what anyway.
to me this doesn’t look and/or feel at all like my experience of FFVII and is more of a continuity of the huge disconnect between Squaresoft and Square Enix.Its not that it does not look good but its far from being Final Fantasy at all. FF died a long,long time ago.

Its the waiting that sucks. Even after waiting forever already, we get less than a 3rd of the story. I'd take quality over speed but only to a point. Another decade to get the "complete" remake would just be cruel.
Yeah, I don't understand how old players of the original game even accept it. I don't. If you haven't played the original during its release, then the Remake is probably great for you. But for someone like me it feels like a nostalgia-infused cash grab when you call it a remake and you remake like 8% of the original game. I get that it's difficult to do such a big story justice, but frankly I'd accept a lot of downgrades in order for the entire game to be released in one package.

I don't know if this is going to be 10+ years. Mosat sequels seem to be every 2 years (Tomb Raider, Mass Effect, Uncharted, etc.). They already announced they've been working on the next game for over a year, are using the same engine, and same combat structure. I think tweak some things, but I believe they will be 2 to 3 years between games at most. Also, I think this will be a trillogy. Midgar was the most dense part of the original game. The third disk of the original only had side quests that weren't closed off, the world map, and the final dungeon. I think the next part will be Kalm to Aerith's death and then game three will be Forgotten City to the Northern Crater.

6:26 I'm sorry but "Crazy chocobo" from XIII-2 is still the best chocobo theme imo, btw as a little bit of a tangent: my favorite version of the "Prelude" is the one from Type 0.
I'm guessing there will be three parts.
A lot of people massively overestimate how long it takes to finish the original FF7, while assuming each part of the remake will be of equal length. A bare bones run through of the original game can be done in under 20 hours if you know what you're doing. Obviously you get more mileage if you do all the optional stuff, although it's worth pointing out that Ruby and Emerald weren't actually in the original game release in Japan so I'm wondering if they'll be included in one of the remake segments. That said, I expect part two to lead up to the events in the City of Ancients, with the final and third finishing the the series.
Considering assets being reused to a certain extent, I'd estimate 2-3 years between each release, meaning we should have the final product in 4-6 years time with some luck.
I could be off here obviously, but I'd be willing to place at least a small bet on my estimations.
Square basically saying a big “fuck you” for giving us your money with that ending tbh. Lets be honest. They played on nostalgia to deceive us. Cause you know they wouldn’t have bought the game knowing they were going to basically just switch up the plot/story with timeline garbage . Its basically a cop out. The ending gives me no faith in any the final fantasy series as a whole going forward. Square should feel ashamed. And i seriously hope someone comes at them for false marketing/promotion. Well they are adding an changing stuff. Some of the stuff they change will affect the story later on so it can finish in the next game or the 100th sequel.
Honestly I was skeptical at first too, but after playing it, the amount of character development and world building for this game is so huge, I don't think they could have done it any other way. I do hope It won't take too long in between, one every 2 years at least is what I'd like to see. I also hope they don't make too many games either, but seeing how surprised I was with how good it is, not sure if I mind anymore or not.

None of the previous FF games ever reach 60 hours on casual playthrough so I don't know what the fuck you're talking about. You clearly never even play the games from this series to begin with.
To be fair. The original is not that long either. I beat it couple of months ago again, took me 27h with all side qs done except chocobo breeding and the waepons ofc.
But i feel you, i hate that square split the game up. And I got the game early and I think it's a good game, but i prefer the turn based combat of the original. Let's just say I'm not so hyped for the next part lol

I thought this game was amazing! Had a wonderful time playing it. I will definitely buy the next part of the game when it comes out.
I love ff7. It changed my life as a 12 year old in 1998. But I'm sorry this remake had 5 years+ to recreate magic and it lacks SO much. You look at a game like horizon zero dawn. That game has graphics, open world, acting, storyline, true weapon and skill building. Ff7 remake only has the success it does due to the name and nostalgia. If it was from a random designer and called "Avalanche: Free the people" it would get a 7/10 and no one would talk about it.
Yup! This game feels like someone created ff7 characters in unreal engine and only had a rough concept of what the story and game was about.

The "pixelation" are asset streaming issues. The I/O is pulling data and a lot of those background and minor textures are being pulled on a low priority queued thread. Those textures should pop into high res eventually, depending on load. Probably either a low priority thread queue not being managed well or a bug causing events in that queue to get dumped prematurely.

Considering that the game isn't officially out for everyone yet, I bet Square-Enix tosses out an update on the 10th that fixes some of those graphical problems. Fingers crossed anyway.

@@jasonyim2027 I honestly dont think it falls under PS4 limitations as most games have been able to render background well beyond that a "still image." When was the last time you saw the background looking that atrocious in a AAA PS4 title? I mean for heaven's sake, it literally is a jpeg image. They could've at least added some illumination on the building's lights to give it some sense of realism. It blatantly looks like an image that the foreground was layered on to. They clearly were slacking on this aspect of a game.
@@laribaalbert there seems to be LOD and texture streaming issues in some of the outdoor areas that are most likely a bug. They literally created thousands of unique assets so each sector looks unique, they didn't skimp on graphics here.

I got the game Friday and I feel it’s an absolute masterpiece I’m at the end of chapter 8 so I’m so excited to see chapter 9 now the music is incredible the way they have upgraded let the battles begin blows my mind great review others seem negative and keep stating it’s not a full game but we already knew that we’ll done keep it up
Dude they sed they had so much content in midgar its a full game..... But it seems they lied n padded it out with generic side quests. Its the shortest 3d final fantasy game there is, JRPGs tend to have near 100 hours of content most the time even back in ps1 days
@@zamon8erz10 - It seems like it's an extremely impressive remake of 1/8 of FFVII. I understand it's complicated because of how much bigger of a scale they are going but to me it's still not a good look. I have a feeling this game will never be fully remade or some big chunks will be left out.

Its no Masterpiece. The ending is kingdom hearts tier trash. There's a lot of nostalgia in the air....Some reviewers are somewhat banging on the ending but not enough.
All they had to do was remake it but they changed the ending completely.
Square enix is finished after this. Trials of Mana will be the superior remake in April.
@@spiritualsoul2711 so far, Final Fantasy is considered to be a critical success and will most definitely be a commercial success. So no, they aren't done with anything after this. Count in the fact that they just announced a Nier remake, things are looking up.
It was pretty obvious this game wasn't going to be an exact retread of the original the moment they announced it was going to be episodic.
I doubt that nostalgia is blinding any large group of people. If anything, its blinding you from seeing a good game because it's not a 1:1 repaste of the original.
And how is Kingdom hearts trash? If it was trash then it wouldn't be as popular as it was. Kingdom hearts 3 got panned for its lackluster story pacing but other than that, the story is pretty serviceable

I agree with nearly everything he said. I have also finished the game. 44hours. The main story on normal will take most people 35 hours or more. The game is not perfect but it really is close to it in my opinion. Square has completely exceeded my expectations. 9.5/10

My favorite FF7 moment had to be when Cloud and Barret were talking on the train about people living in the slums. I think it was that point in the game that hooked me. "Its like this train, can only go where its rails take it." Later in the game they tribute this moment with the whole crew. I can't wait to see Barret and Cid together in the same party.

Good question as to how many parts there will be. They stretched out Midgar to 35-40 hours, but I imagine they could just as easily condense future parts to keep this to a trilogy.
That's what I'm afraid of, they either rush the other parts and make a mess with less story depth and everything mush together, or they gonna launch like 5 more parts.
Yeah screw that I'll wait for all the parts to finish then I'll buy the collection that we know will be put out if they even finish the dam game.

FF7 purists who complain about the new combat system not being "turn-based" like the original have forgotten that the original wasn't turn-based either - it was ATB based. The only difference is that Remake gives you actions to perform in the interim to charge your ATB faster.

Good review, but your gripe about how you're always going to the next area came off as odd to me, considering you weren't hitting the side content that would've kept you in each area longer.
Yeah dude, 24 hours sounds absurd to me. Took me 40+ on normal and I only died maybe a dozen times.
100% loved it. I truly feel like you're missing the best part of the core experience by playing on classic (you'll get good at it if that's the worry) but i like that the game encourages you to play through it multiple times. The combat to me felt like the vision of the future action/RPG combat that Chrono Trigger promised us in terms of making gameplay and cinematics a seamless experience that isn't reductive to either.
Johnny, I would highly recommend playing on at least regular difficulty. Maybe even hard since you initially beat it? "Classic Mode" makes the artificial intelligence (A.I.) set to easy. You may get more out of the combat, and in turn the game, by more difficult and engaging combat.

I'd be mindful, I've been lambasted for thinking it was a convoluted mess. Some folk are absolutely hellbent on defending this game as the best thing to happen to the franchise.

I've been playing on normal mode, and I definitely have some opinions about the combat. It feels alright to play but the way the battle system works is not as skill based as it is just very very high maintenance, like unnecessarily so. I'm 7 chapters in and at this point only playing for the story and characters, the gameplay is hooking me less the more I play it. Still hoping that changes though, I got a long way to go.

I thought the writing in the demo was bad and cliché. Square really didn't go with the times. From a narrative point other games have upped the standard, like Witcher 3
it is a JRPG after all, they are generally pretty cliche.

I was so bummed out when I found out this wasn't the full game. Such a long wait for only the first part of FF7. At this point I'm just going to wait for a complete edition with the whole thing in one package. I'm sure it will be a 10 year wait.
lol. people make no efforts in proper research for their favourite hobbies that it's almost unbelievable...when the foundations of a game are done, it becomes a lot easier to produce a sequel. That is the reason why games like Uncharted were released smoothly over time. FF VII has its own engine, same used to develop FF XV which main reason for its really long production time came down to that same engine development. The release of FF XV was very likely one of the reasons why Square Enix announced the Remake so early in time, back then production of the Remake barely started, but were confident on the capabilities of the engine. So expect a 2 year wait at most for the next one, maybe less depending of the complexity of the world map and how long has that been in development in parallel. The 3rd one will definitely be a 1 year wait, there won't be anything else for it that will require a major feature.
So 3 years time for the next 2, unless ofc there is another pandemic or worldwide tragedic event slowing down development or next generation demanding a bit of rework pushing it to 4 years time.
Not only the save file to transfer over issue but, how will the next part connect the outside world with Midgar? Say you wanted to go back to the city, are you going to have to close the game to open the other game with Midgar, or will the outside world and the city be combined in the same new game, or is the current Midgar game going to have the new game as an expansion pack? I guess we will find out in a few years

They had a sale on the ff7 on the e-shop for 7.99 recently, I picked it up and have been enjoying it. It is still worth playing for sure, very good game.

I'm 31 hours in (I'm upto shinra HQ) it's just absolutely incredible - the original FF7 is my favourite game of all time but I think this remake might be taking over it when it all comes out

You could have the best hardware but could still make the worst game. Example persona 5 is a ps3 game, but it's better than 85% of games on ps4,Xbox one and PC.

Between RE2-3 and FFVII i'm in my glory. 20 years iv'e wanted remakes for these games, and here they are! The demo blew my mind with how loyal it was to the source material, while being fresh and new, everything from the environments down to the little speech bubbles they included and the amazingly redone soundtrack.
Please tell me they included Under the Rotting Pizza!

I already bought the game, I'm a diehard fan of ff7 since it was my first rpg, but with the info we have today, I sincerely wouldnt be able to reccomend to someone to buy the game. The reason is because you just won't be able to enjoy the full story of the game in one playthrough. That's criminal. SE dropped the ball here. I would have been willing to pay SE their 240 bucks for 4 parts of the game even if they all came out today, but separating so much of the game will take out so much from it in terms of enjoyment, and I feel for the new generation of gamers that wont be able to enjoy this story fully in one go. It's just not the same. When ff7 came out, I played it non stop. My friends and I only talked about this game for months. It was a journey. Today, we get to play a SMALL part of the game for around 40 hours and then we completely stop and need to wait we dont know how long for the next part. Let's say it takes 1 year for part 2, by then new games will have come out, and not only that but we would have lost track of a few details from the game. In its quest to monetize the game, SE just did the greatest disservice it could have done to ff7. They could have easily released the game in two parts instead of 4, and made this first part reach all the way into Juno maybe or a bit further, and that would have been enough content to at least put gamers to play for HOURS and also grind levels. But the game as it is now, will truly hurt the ff7 game we all knew and loved for the new gen.
It should have gone EXACTLY to Aerith's death. And then there should have been ONE more part. In my opinion that would have been the perfect amount of fleshing out.
The worst part is that Square completely revamped the story and removed some of the best parts of the original story while making those stupid dementors play a central role through the whole game.
I've never played a FF game before. I'm downloading it right now. Got it for free on ps plus.
