A review of the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, in a slightly different style. I wanted to try something a little more informal, something more casual and feel like a conversation for this review. This is something I'm trying for reviews of new game releases, since in this style I can get them out a little faster. I'd love to hear your thoughts of this format in the comments!
Also, hit me with all of your Final Fantasy 7 Remake theories. I tried to give myself some time to digest and think about the whole thing instead of diving straight into a review.

Dragonball fans: "You guys don't?"
Lol this is so fucking true. OG bardock is always cannon in my eyes.

I am so glad they didn't go the Emo Cloud route this game... He actually was a great main character alltogether...
Yeah i agree
@@Blizz3112 I am glad he is not AC trauma Cloud. But... a nitpick but this may work "if Square is interested in this idea" in part 2. Make Cloud less stiff,, more out talking and have him have as punkish hair as Ps1 artwork of Cloud on motorcycle. Just to develop the character and make old school fans happy. Or i hope Square does it. I heard Square said Part 2 is 100% gonna be almost like PS1. So i am interested to see

Barret disheartened af: Aw c'mon man
In this alternate timeline, Red XIII is a bard. Hence why he's not in your party.
LOL
He can be in after Cosmo Canyon
The fact that Jared survived his tar and feathering gives me hope for this world
His content is great too
He survived because it was not as bog everyone thought. If all of what he was accused of was true he should not be okay, but it wasn't
@backtothefuture1066 It is. One of those things that comes with fame
@ right? He didn't do anything wrong and obviously didn't deserve all the bs he got.
The internet is an awful place, and jared did not deserve what happend to him.
all I can say is that the sequel better be called "Final Fantasy VII: Remake - Disc 2"
Truth be told I was a little disappointed that the message they ended it on was "The Unknown Journey Will Continue" instead of "Please Insert Disc 2". Even though it's a simple joke it probably would have caused issues with compliance, with there not actually being a disc 2.
It's gonna be Rebirth and Reunion probbably...
Naw the sequel will be a crossover, showing cloud and Co. being drawn through another shadow portal to a town surrounded by darkness where they will meet up with a kid in baggy shorts, a talking duck and an anthropomorphic dog.
@@oriondye3212 I'm so glad I never played a Kingdom Hearts game. I would hate to have it ruin my experience with such an amazing game as FF7 R.

@@victor_734LOL 😭😭😭
Not sure why you didn't like Red XIII... his voice and character were both EXCELLENT. Remember, Barret called him a "lab rat dog" so Red retaliating by implying Barret was a 300 pound sack while Barret was being annoying (complaining about their crappy car), felt perfectly appropriate! Banter throughout the game was TRULY top notch.
I kinda like that after Barret's relationship with Cloud goes from 0-100, he goes kinda easy on Red instead of having The Great Wall with cannons and spikes around himself like in the beginning of the game
True Red XIII was a great character
So, it's not FF7 remake. It's "FF7: REMAKE".
you're confusing the term Remake with Remaster. A Remaster is a graphically enhanced version of the base game. A Remake is a new game using story/characters from the base game.
@@Ekiyashi You clearly don't know what a remake is lmao.
@@KingOfBlades Remake: "to make anew or in a different form"

Surprisingly appropriate.
The Hydlide theme was such a nice touch.
Yeah! I'm glad someone else caught that. :D
Regarding Red XIII being a bit of a butthole, I reckon he'll "mellow out" over the course of FF7R-2 (or whatever they call the second part of the remake saga), much like how Cloud and Barrett come to become bros.
This. Remember Red is basically a teenager.
GmodPlusWoW agreed. Can’t have all the character development all at once
Reds still a lil miffed at being referred to as *it* by berrett in the lab.... ;p
yeah, in the original Red XIII purposefully ignored Barret as well in midgar and straight up told the party "Hey, I'm only going with you guys as far as Cosmo Canyon" when you guys leave midgar.
If anything the remake made him more friendly at this point considering he sounds on board to help as it is with the sephiroth thing when that wasn't the case before (He's convinced by Bugenhagen at cosmo canyon to go with the party rather than stay there)
@@TheDapperDragon Exactly. I can't remember his exact age in the OG, but Buganhagen does say he's basically a teenager in human terms, and the years(?) he's spent as a lab rat probably didn't help his social niceties that much either. I think it'll be kinda fun seeing him try to act mature and wise, despite being the same approximate age as Yuffie, only for him to act a little rebellious at times.
Barret: "Come on! Do you see the piece of shit we're driving here?"
Red XIII: "Says the 300 pound sack of it."
Favorite part ever right next to the 'Get help' part
Nothing beat Madame M poor man's course pain of pleasure.
Thing about Red is that before the Cosmo Canyon event, he doesn't actually like people very much and has some deep seated thoughts about the weakness of human nature. This abrasiveness is to start building on that.
When you hear the hylide theme all of Jareds painful childhood memories of it come back
That being the case, why would he ever put that on any of his audio devices? 😋

Those 3 whispers definitely represent the future of Kadaj Laz And Yazoo, their weapons match them more accurately and they fuse into Bahamut.

@@charleybrown8650 huh huh yes sure dude can you hate in another place please? be respectful idiot
That Cloud dancing scene alone is worth the 10/10 score
I didn’t expect cloud to kill it that hard!
Imagine looking at FFVII’s original convoluted plot and thinking, “you know what this needs? TIME TRAVEL & ALTERNATE REALITIES!”
They made it worse.
Honestly, the original isn't convoluted, it just has a lot of story. The only thing that's convoluted is really when is Sephiroth himself and when is he Jenova.
That sort of summarizes my loathing of the Remake's direction
Worked for star trek
Even if the FF series has time travel - FF7 does not. Time travel being added into franchises/stories where it was not originally conceived of is probably one of the most hated story-telling devices at this point. I'm not sure why people reacting negatively is a surprise.
Every FF7R review -
"Great game, I have a couple nitpicks. 9/10."

Haters gonna hate. This game is 11/10 and absolute GOAT tier and no 9/10 haters can change that.
@@cf3304 wow, really got yourself a boner for this game huh? It was fine, but definitely suffered from some pretty major issues, in story, character, gameplay, even in audio and visual aspects. Would I say its a bad game? No, not remotely, I would personally rate it around a 7 out of 10, or so. Is it a perfect game, a '11/10'? Well, I guess these ratings are subjective, so I guess if you like the poorly put together aspects, then I suppose it is.

Tifa's my favorite character to play as in the remake. I love her special attacks and fast attacks.

@@raziyatheseeker I think you'll really enjoy playing as her. She's really fun to play. Plus she's best girl!
Frank Grizzaffi We love our Wafiu, Tifa Lockhart
One huge thing that bothered me about the combat was fighting a boss and almost filling its stagger bar... but then the boss moves onto its next phase. And the stagger bar completely resets. Super frustrating
Nvm the stagger mechanic in general is bad and annoying.
I don't care what the ending implied, it was just thematically way out of place. The whole game was about Midgar and Shinra, and suddenly you're having this epic battle against gods, for reasons that were very poorly described. Aerith's exposition scene was dumb; she suddenly convinced them that this is the most important battle ever, when nobody cared about it minutes ago. And, like, ProJared said, Sephiroth's presence was based entirely on reputation, not anything established in this game. The ending felt like watching Die Hard, but after Hans Grubber is thrown off the building, John McClane goes super saiyan and has an epic battle against the Egyptian gods in the sky. Visually great, but completely out of place from the rest of the story.
It's even more bizarre when you realise they could have completely removed the sequence, skipped to the epilogue, and there would have been no changes to the implications of the sequel. Definitely feels like the Nomura Effect.
Rioplats that’s when you know something is poorly written. If you have a scene or sequence that doesn’t influence the plot, lose it.
I have to disagree with the Sephiroth part. (And spoiler I am not a fan boy of VII. VI cannot be taken from the top spot)
I saw him coming in throughout the game, as a means to
A - Fuck with Cloud, and get him going down the path he does.
B - Keep the focus on him, when it detracted from him.
Reminder of his ability to manipulate Cloud. All the black screens with Cloud in the original, I already took as Sephiroth playing with him. So for me, those were just either put on screen proper, or ramped up.
@@rioplats the only problem with this is that the epilogue to the midgar section is a terrible ending to a game. It was fine in the context of the original, but in the original, it was the beginning of a much larger arc, not the end of one. From the moment they announced this remake would only take place in the midgar portion, it was obvious there would HAVE to be a new story element introduced, without it, your narrative arc just doesnt really have a climax. It does feel slightly out of place, but it's really not all that bad when we arent overly critical of the concept of whispers. I dont care too much for the whisper story element but it isnt THAT bad, and the outrage some have over the idea that they are going to fall into poorly written heavily alternate universe based plot points, is a bit unfair at this point in time. While everyone has a right to fear about the future of this series, nothing is concrete enough about the ending of this game to make such assumptions yet. I dont think it's fair to be outraged about something that hasnt happened yet, and something we are only assuming is going to happen. I dont personally like the whispers much, but, I recognize that SOMETHING had to be added to allow a climax at the end of this game, and us fans of the original weren't going to be happy no matter what that was. It did give for some shocking moments, like with Barret however, that I appreciate. Overall I'm still looking forward to the next game.
On the subject of sephiroth being mostly a villain based on reputation, I agree that the writing here is a bit weak, but honestly, the original was the same way. We did get a bit of backstory in Nibelheim, but even then most of his villainy is pretty vague. I agree it's a flaw, but I feel like it's mostly nostalgia that makes us feel like this is somehow a new flaw.
@@hazeldaniels1679 I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with the concept of whispers. I actually like it. The only problem is that they weren't set up very well at all throughout the game. We got that they were nuisances, but the major concern and focus of the plot was always Shinra. The massive epic battle against a god in the end wasn't earned at all in the game. It was a complete 180.
Also, you're completely wrong about Sephiroth in the original. We got a shitload of info and scenes with him in the game before the final battle against him. He tormented Cloud and controlled him throughout the game. We learned his full backstory (injected with Jenova cells as a fetus, lived a life as a supersoldier, thrown into Mako, sitting in North Crater absorbing lifestream for 5 years). We learned his plan, which involves summoning meteor so he can create a new wound, absorb more lifestream, and basically become a god. We even had a huge portion of the game where everyone thought it was the apocalypse, and were terrified. The final Sephiroth fight was VERY well earned by the story. In Remake... not even close.
Even if there were some mysterious aspects of Sephiroth in original (I would argue no more than that of a typical villain), what matters is we _know_ why we were fighting him. Most of the time in the game's story is spent setting up the stakes of Sephiroth. In contrast, almost all of the time in Remake's story is spent setting up the stakes of Shinra.
I agree that they needed something climactic. But they could have done many things, besides this bad ending. They could have done a much better job setting up the stakes of the whispers throughout the game, and have the final battle be against them (no Sephiroth). Or they could have introduced a new Shinra villain who terrorizes you throughout the game, and made _him_ the final boss. Or they could have not made the game end at Midgar. The possibilities are endless. A good writer need not be constrained by the structure of the original.
Imo this game could so easily be a perfect 10/10 if they just polished up a few things. Camera is wonky, air combat is wonky, textures don't load, if you run through a town all of the town's-people's dialog goes off at once and everybody is just screaming at you, things of that nature.
b.A.m. Fair
honestly, the game's pacing and tendency drags it way down for me, whenever the game stopped to warn me about side quests being permanently kissable I just frowned. the new quests never really added much to the story and the rewards didn't feel meaningful enough so I could sulk it up and just do them, I guess the combat Intel ones were the best since I never needed to go out of my way to complete them and the summon fights were pretty fun.
even without the side quests tho, the game has so many moments were you're just walking with a character while listening to them talking that could easily have been just a cutscene, I love some character development but it was a slog to get through the beginning of Sector 5 lol
it's definitely a good game that would rank comfortably in a 7/10 because it's designed to be padded and incomplete, maybe it will pay off in the next part
To be honest, a ssd helps a lot against the popups xD not sure if its worth it though.. ps 5 is coming soon.. with heat problems.. guess i wait a little longer
It would certainly help if the excessive padding was removed, and if the dialogue felt more natural. Still, I'm liking it so far.
b.A.m. I feel like, if the game wasn’t in an episodic format the pacing would be a TON better.
I dunno, the a-hole archetype works for me regarding animal characters. Also: "This part dragged hard." *shows Cloud in drag*
"Nailed it, I know. Thank you. Moving on."
it kinda lines up to the fact he was used as a guinea pig too and was literally expected to fuck aerith.
Is there another animal character like red that joins you or an enemy? Because you said animal characters and I only see one
@@Joshua_Cartus Pretty sure they just meant animal characters in general, not animal characters specifically in FF7.
Regarding those 3 whispers you talked about: Those ain't Cloud, Tifa, and Barret. According to remake's Ultimania, those 3 were (ahm) that trio from AC.
Kadaj and the bois?!
@@Grizzlow2 yes
Oh. So Sephiroth versions of Cloud Tifa and Barret.
@@greylithwolf Makes sense. I thought it was weird the yellow whisper had two gun arms if it was representing Barret. The guns arms even look like the ones the gun wielder used in AC. What doesn't really make sense is that the Assess description says "they shaped the future" even though in the grand scheme of things they only resurrected Sephiroth for 5 minutes. Is that impactful enough?
@@chrisdaughen5257 Essentially the Sephiroth in remake is the Sephiroth from AC.
It explains him knowing what to change, parrying the Omnislash and having the black wing he gets in those 5 minutes.
So essentially yes it is, those 5 minutes are the basis fo FF7R in theory.
The whispers take me out of the story completely. Square doesn't need to justify changing things. As a remake, the story is in their hands to change as they will and since this game expands such a small part of the original, changes are inevitable. If they carried out any changes they planned on without the whispers, it would just be the way things are moving forward.
i think the whispers worked well enough for what they were supposed to do.
I mean, they beat fate now, so the whispers don't matter going forward anyways.
Or did i miss something again?
It's a valid point. I think whether or not a creator (or team of creators) inject new elements of a story to justify meta-textual changes to that story is largely a matter of personal taste, but there are arguments for when such is necessary. Like, if a character dies in a serialized story or book, then in later editions the writer decides to bring them back to life there pretty much needs to be a fairly strong justification built into the narrative for that change or the death feels extremely cheap (looking at you, American super hero comics).
But that's usually for Retcons in an ongoing story about past events. What's going on here is far weirder, since, yeah as you said, this is a remake starting from the zero point of the story and any changes they want to make can just be included as they need to occur very naturally. So the effect of in-canon justification for potential story changes seems like a large scale narrative intrusion. Look at so much of the game as is - there didn't need to be magical ghosts justifying why Cloud takes on a bunch of sidequests in places he visited in the original FF7 where they didn't occur, they just include those new elements naturally in to the narrative.
On the other hand though, it boldly establishes this series as going down a divergent path, which creates a large question mark as to the outcome of the events going forward. Which does potentially generate more interest in future installments based on wanting to know how it turns out in a genuine sense that wouldn't be there in a more straight forward remake, and potentially eases some fan pressure from those who would demand a more 1:1 rendition of the OG game's events by 100% declaring that things are going to be different here.
@@MidlifeCrisisJoe My opnion is that this game isn't really a remake but a sequel too (Requel like everyone seems to like that new term) somehting about characters coming from the future that alter the present so they have to justify to changes if not this wouldn't make any sens so the Whispers are valid (in my opinion)
Are you using logic despite the fandom panned the latest installment because of the look of the protagonists and because they get from a point to another because it doesn't show it - despite the information you have from before is way more than enough (especially for a fantasy story)?
That without considering how fans hate remakes even when they ask for it, simply because they want their childhood to be untouched.
This way no story is retconned but they are just telling a new one. Smart move if you ask me.

@@TheMaestro116 Dunkey thinks their padding out the game (having a part 1, 2 and 3) for money. After watching everything Max has covered about the way the devs are approaching this remake, I'm baffled.
Goblin idk a lot of of did feel like padding though. There’s a lot of things that just serve to make the game longer than it needs to be. The side quests are for the most part not fun. One of them is just finding cats. Then there is so much of very slowly walking and squeezing through tight spaces. Like A LOT. I swear that take up like 1/4 of the game. Allies being inactive when you are not controling them must ruin immersion for some people or something. I personally loved controlling all party memebers myself, and it works really well.

Honestly she is the most fun I’ve had in any combat in any game probably ever... and I’ve been gaming since Atari so I’ve pretty much seen and played it all.
I never understood why everyone likes playing as Tifa the most but maybe it’s cause I did not know about cancelling combos. I just keep hitting the same button really quickly trying to keep up with her. I prefer Aerith and Cloud gameplay.
@@saif0316 Tifa is fun af if you've played brawler/punchy punchy chars in games with decent combat mechanics. Like uhhh... Idk any off the dome, but you get the jist.
I have a screenplay that I'm thinking of sending to Peter Jackson. It's a modern remake of 'Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring', updated for a modern audience. In this film, we follow Frodo and Sam on their epic journey to reach the 'Prancing Pony', during which they're accosted by Ringwraiths, Orcs and Sauron himself.
After the prelude showing the wars of the ring, Sauron makes a second appearance in the Shire, during Bilbo's 111st birthday party. This is to establish him as a credible threat and demonstrate the tortured relationship between him and Frodo. After Frodo has received the ring, he must collect 20 turnips, have a horse-and-cart race with the Sackville-Bagginses and help his neighbour find her cat before setting off on his quest.
While travelling to the 'Prancing Pony', there are many epic battles between the hobbits and the Uruk-Hai, which they are able to defeat due to Frodo's mythril armour and magical blade - Sting. A mysterious elven archer also makes an appearance to save them in the nick of time, but he disappears into the shade of the trees. Frodo wants to go to Rivendell to do sidequests with the Elves, but the wraiths keep forcing them back towards Bree.
As they cross the river to Bree, Sauron appears and blocks their way, saying this conflict is destined to happen (I think it's a good idea to have this showdown in the first film, because everybody already knows what happens anyway, and Sauron is no longer this mysterious villain having since appeared in Smash Bros and fans will definitely complain if we don't get to battle him). Luckily Gandalf appears just in time and says "a wizard is never late" and "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!", then the mysterious archer shoots Sauron and kills him probably. His dwarf companion says amusingly "That still only counts as one!".
But seriously, screw this game.
Let's be reasonable here: those "whispers" only exist so SE can take a plot that wasn't convoluted and make it convoluted!
It's a convoluted way for the next game/s to be allowed to alter the timeline, 'changing destiny'
Exactly
I wouldn't exactly call the original plot "not convoluted" to be honest.
Or a aay to show how gaia and the lifestream were "guiding" the characters in the original
OG ff7 was absolutely convoluted
The ending kills it for me, everything with the whispers, Sephiroth popping up, and everything at the end, just feels like a huge fanfic made real
Typical nomura bullshit he is infamous for doing that with Kingdom Hearts
Ya, deleted the game after that. Was just a big bundle of sad going through that whole fight sequence. O well, at least Doom remake was decent. Guess I’ll go find another universe to invest my feelz into.
Well it is AC after all. Not a well recieved movie but Im okay with them giving it justice in the remake. As it all ties together, and hoping we can see it flourish in a more "new" ish kinda way rather than just throwing all the cast in.
Jared is a legend, he survived the "cancel bastards" from twitter and then here he is talking and making what he loves the most, videogames.
lol Okay.
@@colorcola1464 lol Okay.
Beat this game when its first came out. This is the first thing I've watched on it since. Great video. Thanks!
I agree with everything you said. The enemies are so damn spongy some times. Chapter 16 I turned the difficulty down to easy and just whooped everything’s ass
He’s talking about the game for real! And not the demake!
Thank god

To think I missed this review the first time you uploaded it. I am so happy to sit down and watch your videos again
He's one of the only reviewer that really mentioned how bad the pacing was respect to him
Sorry I just realized I came here only to hear good things about this game that I love to bits. I'm perfectly fine with watching lots of different reviews from a one year ago while I don't play it, it's that good.
You’re an amazing guy, most people wouldn’t have been able to get through what you have.
Agreed! Keep up the great work, Jared.
My thoughts exactly.
I loved all the extra characterisation, especially the friendship between Aerith and Tifa because I really wanted to see more of it. While, personally, I am a fan of Cloud x Aerith, I never liked it at the expense of Tifa, if you know what I mean, I liked that these two women got along just fine because, imo, Aerith and Tifa are both absolutely wonderful and iconic characters. And everyone, absolutely everyone (okay, I did find Jessie a little annoying at some point, but her death (?) made me sad, so she's fine) was so much fun to watch. Barret, already one of my favs, became an extra favorite because his motivation was so apparent and so understandable, not to mention touching. Loved that, loved the music, loved seeing familiar locations and constantly thinking to myself, "I remember this!" So many times I had to stop just to look around and admire the detail.
But halfway through I switched the difficulty level from normal to easy because battles were starting to get frustrating due to useless AI and I wanted to focus on the story, not that I struggled much but since I wasn't controlling the entire party at once, whoever I was playing as was carrying most of the weight and, to be honest, I just got lazy because I did not buy this for action, I bought it because I loved the original story, plus the pacing was... suffocating, considering that it's 10-15% of the original turned into a game of its own, and I already think that Midgar begins to overstay its welcome just a bit near the end of its segment, so... there was enough of it. Iconic location, great start of a great game, but I'm not sure I wanted this much of it.
And, of course, while I am not completely opposed to the idea of reimagining and changing the story of 7, I have some concerns. On one hand, I am curious to see what is going to happen if we are given the freedom to shape the story more or less to our liking or at least a chance to experience a different scenario, but at the same time, personally, I just wanted the same good old 7, a little dolled up with extra content, but true to the original, so I am skeptical and cautious. We'll see, and then we'll judge, I suppose.
But at the end of the day, I did not regret playing it, I'm glad I did, so hey, it was a worthy purchase for me personally.
13:09 Nah man.
They're Loz, Yazoo, and Kadaj.
That's lame, but knowing modern Square-Enix, you're probably right.
Exactly. Disappointed jared hasn't sought answers
This is definitely true. The gun whisper uses an attack called velvet nightmare which is the name of Yazoo's gun in FF7:AC. Also, my theory is that this is new game+ for both Aerith and Sephiroth.
This needs to be further up
Crusader Galve yeah, so many people talk about how Sephiroth is trying to change the past, but almost no-one mentions how much the Whispers keep attacking Aerith as if she was also an anomaly
They did this RIGHT! And im the worst critic on everything modern these days (meaning i usually hate everything, but this was actually exciting and much like cobra kai season 1, was astonishingly refreshing)
So while it ain't worth much, I gotta say my biggest complaint about the remake are the Whispers/Arbiters of Fate/Insert Dementor joke here. At times a good number of the [let's say] "non-canon" events happen simply to literally just have them come and... do, nothing, really. Like Aerith in the church or Barret and Sephy or whatever the heck happened in Sector 7 post-platefall. Like, imo, that's bad padding.
*Spoilers*
On that note, my other biggest issue about them is that they are, seemingly in the most literal sense of the term, deus ex machina. I actually kind of genuinely wonder how drastically the story could have played out had some of the "non-canon" events happened. Like, again, Barret v Sephy. Maybe not having him die, necessarily, but having it be a bigger story beat than "Oh no he got sta-- oh he's revived". Or having Aerith fall prematurely in the church. Again, not really dying, exactly, but it could have really shaken up the story and maybe led to some really interesting developments. I don't mind them changing the story. I don't mind them adding new things, or removing dull stupid shit. But if they're gonna change the story in frankly weird ways, I wish they would run with it. And yeah I know the whole "It's part of what they originally wanted in the game but couldn't fit it in" thing, and that's all well and good, but it certainly couldn't have hurt to be a bit more... experimental with things.
That being said, the ending as a whole I did enjoy, despite it being a little too Nomura-esque. It did set up and introduce a lot of really intriguing aspects that hopefully will be fleshed out and given at least mostly satisfying and conclusive endings by the end of the project.
Or they could pull a KH3 and fuck it all up. But hopefully that won't happen.
I adore how Square-Enix brought the original game back into the spotlight, and kept it just as important as it ever was. Instead of creating a Remake that essentially replaces it.
I'm looking forward to your review of FF13. They've all been great, dude. One thing I remember most about playing that game is constantly tapping the X button when in battles, even though you've got to wait for the bar to fill. I guess I just felt like there wasn't enough to do. I was just watching a lot of cool shit happen and pushing a button every like 3 seconds.
Woooo, can’t wait for this video. I loved this game. 56 hours so far. Gonna platinum this one
Vincent Mallory Godspeed!
Get ready...because it's a doozy lol. I did a more casual playthrough, but I got the platinum at ~120 hours.

“The original had decades of expansion. Should we all just forget that?”
Could we?
I can. I don't remember anything about that piece of shit. It was a kiddy game with kiddy graphics. THIS is the new and definitive FF7 experience and the old is now obsolete. Haters need to deal with it!
C F bruh the new game doesn’t even show real blood.

Well it's not a pro review, it's just a normal one. He's always done plain numbers for standard reviews.
A Star Trek Into Darkness /10. A story that can't stand on its own without having prior knowledge of the original story.
I enjoyed how sassy they made Nanaki. The original game emphasized that he's basically a teenager.
Honestly my biggest gripe is calling this a remake when it should be called a reboot
With the potential directions the storyline is going with all this fate stuff, I think it could end up being more like a direct sequel. In a "Dark Tower" kind of way
Reboot/sequel
DEFINITELY feels like a reboot 👍
Did the word remake change definition? it's a re make as in it's being re made not a remaster or a re release. re make.
@@ionfalcom1 idk what you're on, remake means to do something again, not make something entirely new. Xenoblade, crash, and spyro are examples of remakes. Kh1.5 & DMC HD Collection are examples of remasters.
I don't agree with everything negative you had to say about the remake but your review is really good and really fair. 👍

Hey Jared keep up the great work! :) I'm wondering if you might do a video on XIV's latest expansion Shadowbringers? :O I know you've been a supporter of that game since it's miraculous rebirth back in 2013 and both Heavensward and Stormblood were both featured in your Best Of videos for their respective years. It'd be great to hear your thoughts on the latest expansion, especially considering it's been received by the community as one of, if not *the* best FF story in years.
Hey. Try this. In combat, fill your atb bar, issue a command, switch character, fill atb, issue command, switch character. And on and on. Try it, you'll see that it is how it was meant to be played
I get your gripes about the battle system but when you talked about limit breaks being interrupted but then show clips of characters getting them off without any issues it kind of undermines your point? I never felt like the game was fucking me over, every time I was interrupted I knew there were things I could have done to avoid it. The slow mo is key to this.
FF7 may have made some mistakes, but just remember: To Aeris to be Human
The whisper that you think that where a version of Tifa, Cloud and Barret at the end, they are not them. They are Kadaj (sword), Yazoo (gunner) and Loz (fighter) told by Kitase and Nomura in a interview.
FML....that explanation just makes the whole thing make even LESS sense than it already did....
The three whispers in chapter 18 are actually Kadaj (who wields a katana in his left hand), loz (who wields a tazer gauntlet, the wisper uses thunder based attacks), and Yazoo (twin pistols).
The theory goes even further saying that the Sephiroth we fight is a wisper-copy of the one from the end of AC.
Red - "Says the 300 pound sack of it"
Barret - No AVALANCHE snuggles for you!
Great review. Your usage of cutscenes is hilarious!
By the way. Came to you first for a review.
There's something so relieving about hearing Jared say "this is today's sponsor". Keep kicking ass man ✌

My friends and I always rip on each other so it makes them seem more realistic to me
Man, I love lab rat dog, he was the best.
HEY!
A very fair and honest review, thank you Jared!
Those ghost things were annoying even before I figured out what they were. And that ending means I'm definitely waiting for the full experience to continue this series. Kingdom Hearts is not really my thing, and the convoluted^2 plot is a big reason why.
The combat was pretty dope though, interrupts aside. Definitely a good game. But those ghost and that ending... ugh. B+ overall.
Those whispers are not tifa cloud and barret representations, their actually kadaj, loz, and yazoo
I’m happy Jared recovered for the incident. It’s almost been a year!!
@Nightling Bosconovitch exactly, doesn't matter anymore.
@Nightling Bosconovitch it's for the best you don't know
Same I was worried that he would have trouble finding sponsorships but thankfully that doesn't seem to be the case.
Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to realize, but I think Square Enix has a specific bone to pick with fans who want everything to remain the same. *Long-winded spoiler explanation ahead*
As anyone who’s made a wildly popular piece of art would know, what people tend to appreciate about that art is often at odds with the artist’s intent for creating it. In my own observation, this often leads to discontent between fan and artist, especially when the artist wants to make more of that art. Some are discouraged and never touch it again, and others give in to demands while the art itself loses that “heart” which made it so special. I think Square Enix is instead deliberately mocking its own fanbase with the inclusion of the whispers, and their subsequent destruction.
For all intense and purposes, it seems like the whispers are a personification of fans and their desires. They appear to be omniscient beings for this world that keep the familiar story going even when you can clearly tell they’re not needed in scenarios they show up in. This seems like Square’s strange way of giving the fans a bone, while also giving themselves the creative freedom to do as they please moving forward.
By having the whispers destroyed at the end of the game, Square Enix seems to be making a bold statement that they want to remake the game the way THEY see fit, and I get the sense people are going to have to live with that. From an artist’s perspective, their original art that everyone fell in love with is still there, and it can be returned to and enjoyed all over again at any time. However if they’re going to spend valuable resources to re-tell a story they’ve already told in an entirely new form gameplay, this move seems like they’re going to continue doing as they please for as much creative freedom as possible; it preserves their integrity in a weird way.
You can disagree all you’d like (and it seems like most old-school fans do) but after playing this Remake first then the original for the first time, I get the impression that Square would rather remake *all* aspects of the game as though it was first released in this day & age.
Personally I actually don’t mind these changes. It sure as hell isn’t perfect and I truly do think the original game is leagues better, but I have to appreciate Square Enix for sticking by their guns and actually making something new in a world we love. Is that not the definition of RE-making something? I guess many would disagree… you’re welcome to tell me how stupid I am in the replies ;)
I agree, you still have the original and I still love seeing the ff7 compilation expanded upon. This was basically Square saying this isn't a remake in the sense you'd first imagine but a remake as in a sequel. Storywise all the story beats of the original had to have happened for this "remake" to happen, for those people in the FF7 know they would realize that. Frankly this is a good entry point for newer fans as this stuff would go overtheir heads but this also brings in new fans to the franchise and make them more interested in the story. I love the way they went with it
this remake brought concerning amounts of demands from people that the original story to be changed. now I kinda regret the remake even happening just for that alone. people act like if aerith dies, they will riot, despite her dying being a crucial part of the game.
11:00 Talks about how you're glad they are doing the new timeline so they trim the fat and remove the dumb stuff.
Like... huh? Trim the fat? Did you not just complain about how much padding was in this game? Also, I don't know what qualifies as the "dumb" stuff. Cait Sith? Already confirmed. Genesis. Confirmed. And Roche has to be as goofy and weird as anything in OG FF7. So I don't really know what stuff it is that you are hoping they would change.
Hey Jared. This is the year of Final Fantasy 7 Love.
The three whispers are confirmed to be a form of Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo.
Who also mainly use a sword, his fists, and a gun, respectively.

Zer0scope that would be fucking epic. I’d hate to see my girl die but damn would that be epic.
Zer0scope oh gosh I can’t believe I’m saying this but I want Tifa to die.
I'd be fine with killing Barret, replaying the original now and I saw how he let Shinra in the village
I think it's Cloud. Think about it. He had a vision that Aerith died, and Sephiroth told Cloud he has 7 seconds until the end. He's telling Cloud he has 7 seconds to change Aeriths fate. He's going to take the blade this time.
@@chadkirk150 cloud dying would be more of a cop out, cloud left the party in the original due to mental issues and such, so this would be a way to combine parts of the original story and throw in a dash of crono trigger.....

7th Heaven is a mod installer/program for FF7 Steam version which adds updated graphics, models and soundtrack. The new update is a serious quality of life update so it has become very simple to upgrade the original to HD.
So, now is definitely the time to play the original. Which I'm going to do now, now that I have finished this part of the remake.
I love that you ended the video with the Honey Bee song XD. Watching this video and your live streams for this game have helped me a lot, especially with everything going on in the world. Thanks for being awesome!
So much for a remake. I mostly wanted to play for the story, and now I know I will NOT be getting the story original writer wanted to tell. Fuck this.
As soon as I saw those earbuds in his ears, I knew Raycon raided this video
I forgive Red XIII jerkiness because Aerith calls him a "child." Still love him so that's a big factor lol.
Apparently Red's just a teenager for his species despite being longer-lived in the original? It's fun foreshadowing to have him be the pot to call the kettle... red, I suppose?
I love him because he has the same voice as Leo from Fire Emblem: Fates
