@@scottnewman1300 they're mutually exclusive. As for it not being the same thing, I've played hundreds of games since 97 and will continue to do so. What I can't do is have a faithful remake of the original game. Now you have a kudzu plot, padding, dlc infested mess that has no idea what it wants to be. Not even the writers care enough to answer the idiotic questions they raise with the new additions.

I genuinely don't know how anyone who hasn't played the original game can remotely follow what the hell happened in the final hours of remake. The remake was a way for a whole new generation of people to experience the story of FF7, and they are probably assuming that this IS that story. It isn't.
Sephiroth is the final boss of Midgar? When we haven't been given a single bit of explanation who he is? That must've been great for newcomers. Oh, and he is aware of the events of the original game? Who is this game made for?

Honestly this was super cool, watching someone who's only other Final Fantasy experience was FF13+15, get to experience and fall in love with one of the best FFs of all time. The genuine excitement is so great to see in a newfound fan, gotta love it.

No Joe cloud got a “hand” job
Just a hand massage. It was an intentional play on words that gave subliminal messages of a sexual kind. Theres alot of these events in the original that are reversed: made to look like non sexual but is in the extremes.
This games subtext would make for a great hentai (very mature themes at least) and that probably exists already somewhere on the internet.
Cloud got hand massage, but it implied something similar like puff puff from dragon quest.

My mother has been a big fan of Final Fantasy 7 since it first came out on 1997 and she loved playing Cloud Strife she’s obsessed with Cloud and she’s been waiting for this remake for 5 years and I have played and it’s an absolute Masterpiece.

If your needing a final fantasy fix didn’t square enix just release the Trials of Mana Remake on Switch PS4 and Xbox? It’s also really fuckin awesome. Complete different in tone and visual style than FF7 but still fuckin awesome. In fact I cannot fuckin understand why they would release two major releases in the same month, it’s set up Trials of Mana to fail. It was really stupid on square enix’s part to do that because both games deserve praise and attention

I didn't realize how important this kind of take really is. Most of the reviews I've seen are from FF diehards, but this is the first proper review from someone who goes hard on the games while also having fresh eyes for FF. This goes a long way to proving that the changes achieved something good

He's definitely no FF diehard, and he never touched the games that made the franchise great and defined it's perception among the core fandom
It really just shows how far standards have fallen. Especially for this series. It's definitely the best thing out of the trash that he's played from Final Fantasy but that doesn't say much.

It really sucks this isn't the whole game. You have a situation like what Joe is in. The original has a mindblowing story, but the combat doesn't age well. You have the remake with the awesome combat, but it's not the full story.
I actually liked the combat when I played it earlier this year
It does, but I completely understand why they did it now. We got a pretty meaty 40 hour game in the first part though

i think they gave us a satisfying narrative to justify a whole game. After all the Midgard segment always followed a normal three act structures, doing a full game based on it made sense. It led to us desiring more while feeling mostly) satisfied, kinda like empire strikes back or something. Although the final boss should have been the five turks against our five main heroes rather than a purely fanservice driven (but freaking awesome) final boss

Final fantasy has arguably some of the best music period.
If you ever get the opportunity to go to a Distant Worlds concert I cannot recommend it highly enough!

This, it really makes me sad and wonder wth happened with DQ11 because the music in that game was so subpar to the point of shocking how garbage it was. The music in this game is some of the best and rivals all the music from the glory days of Square as the SNES PS1 games.

True, until then I had no interest in buying a final fantasy game or even picking up the 7 remake. But the fact that it was a 2020 game that's still basically brand new made me want to give it a try and today I first started playing and my mind has been blown by how amazing the game is. But idk if I should pick up the dlc or expansion bc i got the game free with plus and if I ever cancel it then there goes my access to ff7 remake

I've played Final Fantasy VII remake and The Last of Us II and I can say without a doubt Final Fantasy 7 remake totally worth the money and if you could only buy one or the other I would definitely recommend ff7 remake over Last of Us 2

Joe, I know you don't really do reviews of older games, but I would love an overview of your thoughts on the original after you finish it on Switch! Hope you love it!
As someone who Played the Remake First without playing the Original I give this game a 10/10 I had so much fun in this game reminded me why I love games the Music was Awesome, Combat was a great combination of Old and new, Characters were given a lot of depth. I then recently bought Final Fantasy 7 on Switch and played the Midgar Section and I noticed how in the Original the Midgar Section doesn't flesh out any character especially, Jesse, Biggs, and Wedge are just throw away characters. While in the Remake we get more interactions with mostly every character. Also Second reactor is basically the same as the first almost one to one which kinda sucks in the original. Now Story is were I saw some Significant changes to characters some things Cloud does are different in Wall Market Section, Leslie doesn't exist in original not the Roche character. Not sure if these characters will be more utilized in the future I'm thinking yes. Also ending is Quite different at the Bridge, but I enjoyed the Remake version more because it would have been lame after 40 hours of gameplay that it would end at the Bridge. I was hyped to play Sephiroth at the end even though the story got a little confusing by the end. But I believe Square decided they need new and old players an incentive to keep questioning what's next, although I still believe that Square will continue with the meat of the Original for new players like us to experience the Original story. But from what I played in the Remake I think it was very faithful to the original, as I was playing the Original I was imagining that I've already played this section so it wasn't a Bad Remake as most people have been saying. Maybe it's because I've played the Remake first but I'm excited for the future of Final Fantasy 7.
I know about a few major plot elements from the original, but overall I haven't experienced it for myself. I love the Remake tho and it definitely makes me want to play the original.
