Your story telling has simply jumped to an elite level as has your onboard footage.... whatever camera, settings and post production you are doing is awesome. You both should be very proud!
As a Canadian fan of cycling I am well aware of who Geoff Kabush is. For you to hang with him most of the race, lose him and later reel him back in and finish literally right on his wheel is a testament to your dedication and racing excellence!! Well done Macky....well done!! 👋
Kabush is one of the heavy hitters. Mackey doesn’t comment on the other racers, but he’s riding with some big names and does fairly well. Dude’s an impressive racer.
What I noticed is that your climbing skills have improved much. You used to get dropped pretty bad on the climbs. Now you're competitive on them and you've always been a great decender. Great job Macky. All the hard training during the off season has really started to pay dividends. Best of luck in tomorrow's race. Go get em!! 💪👊👍
Never seen Macky so worried before a race...you can see what it means to him!! Great footage as usual guys, love Syd's words of encouragement, "If you're gonna lose, Lose BIG!" ...A Limited T-shirt and sticker slogan maybe?? Edit...nearly forgot, "All the Crabs in One Bucket" ... absolutely love it!! 💕
New subscriber...lol...seeing Mackey sit down at the end of the XC right there with Downiville Fire and Rescue in the background...priceless! Omg...I've ridden Downiville...but not uphill! OMG...BIG RESPECT!!!
It's been great to watch all of the BCBR videos through your lens. I did BCBR this year as my first MTB race ever, and one thing I learned is that my race doesn't look anything like yours! I saw you guys at the meal hall but didn't want to be a cyber stalker so I left you alone, and finally said hi to Macky on the last day as he was getting B roll shots. I gave him my Co2s :) I wanted to do Downieville this year. I had spent 5 months training for BCBR and felt I could make a good go of it, but then I realized it was the weekend after BCBR. NO way. It took me almost 3 weeks to fully recover. Good on you Macky for doing it, and in 100 degree weather. Absolutely brutal. Huge props to Katarina Nash for winning both. Bonus I just got back from Downieville last night. Again great to see these trails through your lens. Man does this place eat bikes. I rode my race bike my first day (because I did the climb from town to the tower, and back down to town) and I broke a spoke on Butcher. Day 2 I switched to my much beefier trail bike, and broke a spoke in the same piece of trail. I guess it was still hungry. I'm looking forward to the next video and seeing your downhill run.
Macky , you and Syd rock. I’m just starting to watch the Downeyville episode and remember how much I wanted to do this when I lived in Northern California. Wife got sick and never was able to do it. Enjoy your wife, your life and your time doing these races. You guys are awesome thanks for the entertainment and training advice. Still love to ride. Your videos were part of my motivation, trying to race again after almost 15 years.
Just amazing how far both Syd and Macky's climbing skills have improved with training. From the downhill standpoint, Macky is an absolute demon on two wheels in the gnar. I have a good feeling for Round 2 - I feel like Macky pulls out some stops against a class field. I wanna see some fun park days, you guys deserve just some fun runs.
Just, wow. You aren’t human on descents - more like a Minority Report Pre-Cog dude! Insanely reliable line selection with zero hesitation. I think I was rocking 120 BPM just watching this insanity! So good 👏🏻
I can't stress enough how high quality the production is for your videos! The riding and athleticism is another level and I must say I keep coming back for the story elements. Following along with yalls journey is pretty inspiring. Never thought I'd enjoy XC style videos but honestly they're making me want to give that a go vs enduro. Keep up the strong work Syd and Macky!
Hats off to you bro😎👍🏼 you placed 7th in a field of ?? people and you were only a couple of seconds shy of 4th, don't beat yourself up (mentally). Keep your head up, you're surrounded by a great support team + those of us watching on this channel.Anxious to see the next video.. Continued success to both of you 😀🌞🌴 Kissimmee, Fl
Wow. The exposure on some of those downhill sections was umm .. terrifying! Especially seeing how Macky is absolutely rippping thru there. Don’t look down! Macky: 🦅 Me: 🫣
Great ride and video. Holy crap, that descent section where you came over the hump and the trail just falls away to nothingness on the right was terrifying! I know there is a bit of a GoPro effect but I still don't understand how one can descend that fast over that kind of terrain - and I also know this was the "easy" descent stage! Really enjoy this channel.
So inspiring, the work put in has obviously been paying off. So close to 6, 5, and 4. Can't wait to see the descent part next. I know you'll be really hard to beat there Macky. All the Pajarito and Glorieta training will now come in handy!
That’s the thing about racing. You can feel absolutely awful and think you’re going to do horribly and end up doing really well. I had a few great races hungover with no sleep in which I would have expected to do horribly (although I don’t recommend that as a strategy). Sometimes you can feel really great and think you’re riding strongly and end up blowing up. The human body is a mystery and it’s never really predictable how it will perform.
Hey guys, when you come to Fort Collins, Co, you should do the 4SOH. Gentleman’s mtn bike time trial. I’d love to see what you can do. Georgia Gould did it when she lived there. Good training run for you guys.
Wow that was awesome! It's always cool to see someone at your level nervous and self doubting. Gives us back of the packers hope. Kudos to Syd for hustling to the water handoff. CREW!
Awesome, I'm enjoying your videos more and more. I thought a little speed counter in the corner of the screen would make these videos even more interesting. You can do this with a gopro app.
So cool to watch from your perspective and it was a pleasure to finally meet you guys! Your previous DV DH POV (2019) was a god send for my preparation :) Hopefully see you both next year on a mountain somewhere... ;)
Great job Mackey!! I bought a pair of Shokz at your suggestion... love them!! I had a pair of ear buds previously but could not hear other things nearly as well as I can when wearing the Shokz. Good battery life on them too.
Macky, are you and Syd going to do the Iceman Cometh this year. FYI. Like your videos guys. Hope to see you in the race Macky. I’m usually the second to last pro. Trying to hang in there at 51. I hope to do a lot better this year. You guys inspire me. Still hanging on. Keep up the great work guys!!
One of the things I've tried to get past/let go, since I"ve stopped racing pro in my 20s is the idea that I should or have to "feel good" the day before a race. As I've gotten older, it's been so much better for my mental health to just not worry about that, as I've had great races the day after feeling terrible on a ride/run. Granted this probably doesn't really apply if you're still racing at a pro-level.
I am completely in agreement with you. At age 61, I have learned that I can feel fairly terrible the day before, or even the morning of. I have started riding thinking I'm going to suck, and halfway through realize I'm feeling REALLY good, and suddenly do a PB.
I know you are pros and have recovery dialed, but just asking if you have invested in any full leg recovery air compression boots. they do make a difference , the key is the foot to hip gradual staged and held compression and the fast full release to allow blood flow back in. Key for me in multi day or heavy recovery periods. They are not all the same and some are useless. but the good ones have gotten so portable there is no reason not to have them in the van, tent or hotel. Anyway, great job and great to verbalize for everyone the translation of "feeling" to "performance" isn't alway 1 to 1.
Great Video! Nobody else comes close to covering MTB events like you two. Onboard action like we are right there with you and strategy/logistics explanations that help us understand what it takes to do these events.
Nice work! I had a feeling you two would be there. I did this race this year as well. It was my first bike race and wow was it tough! Can’t wait to see the DH and the speed on Third Divide. Can’t wait for next year.
Nice job. You were flying there. Have you ever tried ESI Grips silicone foam extra chunky grips. I like them better than rubber grips, my hands get less tired. The chunky rocks will still suck but a little less.
Macky, a brilliant XC result! I'm stoked to see your downhill run! (Possible RUclips Shorts from the XC, "Climbing With Kabush" and "Chasing Kabush" 😜👍‼️) Keep doing what you do 😁👍‼️
I saw a video of y'all setting up a light on a bike for a night ride. Have y'all ever considered doing a night ride, and are there any races at night. Good luck and keep on racing. 👍 PS. Be sure to wear reflective clothing at night. Would not want to lose anybody.
Great watch guys its weird how you can feel really terrible then ride really well i have had this happen alot. Is that Brendon Johnson the aussie in the results he is fast in the dry stuff one to watch good luck tomorrow 👍from down under .
Oh HELLLLLLZ yes! Great job, Macky. Great support job, Sud. Curious, but how in the world do some of the riders recover so quickly? Wondering if you guys can do a video on PEDs in the sport??? I mean, we're humans and competitive humans will push the boundaries of physical ability for peak (and... peak-er???) performance. Can't wait for next week's video.
I’m new to your channel at 51 years young (I retired from law enforcement last year after 25 years of service). I’m wanting to to stay mountain biking as a hobby to stay busy….). I’m 6’, 195lbs with a 36 inseam (my legs are not proportionate to my torso I feel & trying out a out a large frame bike it feels to small for me, would you recommend me getting an XL MB even though I’m 6 foot? Love your guys channel I just can’t seem to stop watching! Very inspiring & getting me into this fun outdoors sport ! Thanks for putting out such a great entertaining channel!🚴🏽🚴♀️🚵🚵♀️
If you can, try demoing both a large and an XL and see which one feels better. In general at 6' I'd say large, but better to try both out and decide from there.
What Syd said. Bikes vary from one manufacturer to another, so it’s impossible to give a generalized recommendation. Certainly with your long legs and height, L to XL will definitely be the way to go; but choosing which is a matter of testing the individual bikes. Sorry it’s not possible to be more specific.
Such a great mtb concept. I've been thinking... What if you take XCO or XCM lap, timing different sections of it separately. And make all DH and technical sections more valuable than XC by using point system. Of course you'll need electronic time splits but otherwise... Isn't it UCI Downcountry? 😁
Super curious how often you cycle your dropper on a race like this ? Would give us some idea if we’re under / over using ours .. We watch all your videos every time they post ! Really, really enjoy them and always look forward to seeing you two on your journey ! Keep up the great work and thank you ! Cheers ! 🍻
Macky! Youe descending skills are insane....in the best way possible. I am always saying Holy Crap! when I watch your descents. Do you know what your max speed was on the cross country descent?

Well done…every time I watch Mackey descend, I’m on the edge of my seat.
It's mindblowing how fast he's able to go down on xc tires. I would wash out so badly, he has incredible skill.
Me to😂

You're the dark horse. Probably your best result ever in a stacked field.. Great tire choice, my favorite.
Great job. Your speed on the downhill is incredible!
