    The Ford Advanced Course guides taught us that we can switch to Hill Descent Control under all climbing conditions: up and down. I tried that on my 2019 4WD 2.2 auto, and it works like a charm even when going up a mountain. It just imparts a sense of control that is unbelievable. In laymans terms I think the system senses torque and adjusts braking effort accordingly: control when freewheeling and waiting when under torque. On level XLS and up it can be used along with cruise control. On XL trim, there is at best an aftermarket cruise control, which does not 'talk'with HDC. No sweat, I use the accelerator as required to go up and to what going down allows.

    Great work - it feels like your efforts are really aimed to get guys out there by giving the right information that everyone asks but isn't easy accessible. I was contemplating whether to go 4x2 XLT or 4x4 XLS as a now Joburg City boy - but you have sold me on the 4x4 - thanks for that. It is also great that you inform people on where you are doing what to your bakkie and giving estimate costs in the comments. Subscribed and will spread the word of your videos.

    Great tip.. I used my down hill assist this weekend on my Ranger. I'm new to this, I just need to know if I should keep my clutch in or out when going down? I put the vehicle in 4L and 2nd gear.

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica
      @4x4ventures_southafrica  4 года назад +1

      Yeh, it is a great bit of tech and a system that works, as uneasy as it feels. 1st or 2nd gear (depending on the gradient and gear selection is to be made before entering downhill) switch rear diff lock on and dont touch the clutch or brake. The system will manage slips and rotate breaking between front and back depending on forward decent. The faster / steeper the gradient the more the system will work. I like to hover my foot over brake and clutch in case. It is something I feel safer doing, but just don't touch the brakes. If you are slipping too much, stop and engage first gear. The compression of the engine will act as a stronger braking method in this gear, than 2nd gear. Good luck and enjoy

    Very nice channel! Quick question I have the XLT 4X4 and am looking at upgrading my suspension with an Old Man Emu suspension my tyres will need to be changed as well. What is the max size that you suggest on the 17" rims that will not run on max articulation and at full lock?

    You can fully dis-engage traction control by pressing the button more than approximately 10 sec.

    • @tugsaykulaksz2029
      @tugsaykulaksz2029 6 лет назад

      4X4ventures In my 2017 2.2 ranger, if I press the button once, it partially disengage and when I try to drift it holds the car in the middle of the drift, that is what you say, but if I long press the button, the TC light on the dashboard flashes after about 8-10sec(I didn’t count) and I can drift and no traction control works on the car. You should try that.

    • @tugsaykulaksz2029
      @tugsaykulaksz2029 6 лет назад

      4X4ventures thanks for this info, I’d never tried to drift or turn hard over 60km while the traction control fully off, I think they put a safety feature on speed limit, it fully disangage it on slower speeds and engage on faster speeds like locked differantial option.

    Hey, great vid. I see in you were running the same wheel and tire setup as mine a 285/75r16, just been given some raptor wheels at a very good price. Question is would a 295/70r17 fit? They're practically the same size just slightly larger, wheels are same +55 offset etc. Any ideas?

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica
      @4x4ventures_southafrica  4 года назад

      Thank you Joe. Ummm, I'm not sure tbh. It would make sense that they should fit. Best advice would be to go in for fitment of one, then drop vehicle back down and do full lock right and left to see if there is any rubbing. I know that the Raptor is 150mm wider than ranger, and not sure if this extra width is in axle or body only. Let me know how it goes, and good luck mate

    Great Video !! Can you tell me how many HP your Ranger have ?? It has 150 or 120 HP ?? And also how many torque, 325 or 375 Nm ?? And for climbing this strong slope did you have to keep the clutch or the Ranger without problems ?? Thanks

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica
      @4x4ventures_southafrica  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your comment and support - so my Ranger is the 2016 2.2 XL 4X4. It is 118 Kw and 385 Nm of torque as standard. I haven't done anything to the engine. When going up you need momentum, no clutch. Steady and continuous revving to climb up with 4x4 4L engaged and rear diff lock activated, same when coming down, but i used the downhill assist, which worked excellent.

    In the Philippines, the Ranger Wildtrak 2.2L 4x4 MT doesn't come with diff lock.. what a let down. Only the 3.2L 4x4 have.

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica
      @4x4ventures_southafrica  5 лет назад

      What a pitty. Diff lock has helped me in so many knarly off road moments that it doesn't sound right to not have rear diff lock. You guys do have the best lift kits though. You dont get that here in South Africa, unless you have very deep pockets.

    I plan to own my first 4x4 soon. What is your recommendation for me as a beginner to choose the right model? Is it better for me to get XL2.2 auto transmission or manual?? Then what is different between both XL and XLT??

    • @papayaasamboy3052
      @papayaasamboy3052 7 лет назад

      Thanx ya for your advice since this is my first 4x4 definitely i'll choose XL. However do u recommend me to get used model XL rather than brand new?? If i choose used model i m more doubt about the engine or performance condition. Possibility to spend additional money is there rite? In case if happen something bad to the engine or suspension although the different price is quite high (around 20k-30k) compare with brand new. Of coz to play safe, for me better get the new one. But is it value for money for me to have brand new if i plan only for temporary usage until i familiarize with this 4x4 and later on upgrade to XLT 3.2 Wildtrack (maybe someday....hehee)??

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica

      Cant say, its ine of those conversations like Mac vs PC, or BMW vs Mercedes. Everyone has a POV relatable to the brand or product they use. I haven't compared the various brands thus I cannot give a top product opinion. What I can say is that I have been using BFGs now for more than 9yrs, and haven't had an issue. BFGs are a competitive brand in the way of compound and rubber technology, and although expensive, have many key selling points that work for me. Good luck on your choice.
