Candy corn is amazing, but I think people hate it not because it tastes bad, but because it's confusing. It's like a candy wearing a costume, it's actually buttercreme candy, which is sooo good, but because of the colors and the fact it's shaped like corn, people have a totally different expectation, dont know what to make of it, and deem it gross. It'd be like Oh Henry changing the name of their chocolate bar to Candy Poop. It looks like it, the idea would be in your head as you ate it, and you'd greatly dislike it, when in reality Oh Henry's are amazing.
Great video even with Candy Corn on the good list! And maybe there is a fourth category… “Banned Halloween Candy” (see Candy Cigarettes anyone 🤣) Thanks RetroDaze for another delightful Saturday trip through time and back to the good ole daze!
Dear Tony; The Writer, The lack of enthusiasm about Smarties was great, I could trade all the chocolate and nut filled treats that I was mildly allergic to for tons of smarties and strawberry candies. So many smarties. I will never financially recover from eating all those smarties. I could be a smarties millionaire now.
I dunno, Necco made this tie-in for "Twilight" with candy hearts that were either cooling (Edward) or a bit hot (Jacob). I don't think they made a Trick or Treat size for it, but I'd like them to bring them back.
12:02 The guy's "Hooray!" in that old commercial just cracks me up; didn't think it'd be possible to sound enthusiastic and forced at the same time but he pulled it off.
Good: candy corn, Smarties and popcorn balls. I know that last one isn't candy, but I still like them. 😋 Bad: circus peanuts, black licorice and especially peanut bars 🤢 Forgotten: white chocolate crunch bars. I rarely see those anymore, at least not in the US. Also, I could be wrong about this one, and I know this one is in candy either, but I really see the small snack size microwave popcorn packets for trick-or-treaters anymore. Speaking of which, you guys should do a video on non-candy Halloween treats, both edible and non-edible.
I can't believe that Candy Corn is the lowest rated Halloween Candy. On the survey that asked 10,000 people, I'm I the only one that thinks Candy Corn was great as a kid on Halloween?
ZMan!!! You are too kind with the donation! Thank you so much! As for candy corn, it was actually ranked 3rd worst, with circus peanuts as first. Even so, what is wrong with people? 😆
Note how most of the Palmer candy packages say "Chocolaty" or "Chocolaty-flavor". When I see that, I know it's gonna be terrible. Oh, and I like Smarties and Circus Peanuts (speaking of which, who has ever gotten Circus Peanuts in their trick-or-treat bag? I definitely didn't).
A good candy corn is terrific. In my parents neighborhood when I was a kid there was a candy maker. His house always had lines. He gave out fresh candy corn in a 1/2 pound bag. He may have been trimming his backlog of inventory but I can't eat Brachs because of having that candy corn as a kid. My wife loves Circus Peanuts, the staler the better for her. Two quarters? in a Halloween bag! We got pennies. One thing I do miss from being a kid of the 1970s was our ability to go Trick or Treating by ourselves. We had no supervision with us. My mother (my father hated Halloween) would instruct me that I was to only Trick or Treat in a certain area, which I ignored, and that she had to see the candy before I ate any. We used to get fruit, cookies and at special stops in the neighborhood apple cider or cocoa. When our kids were old enough to go out my wife or myself would go with them and we would only go to houses where people we knew lived. It's kinda sad that we and now my kids have to go out with our grandchildren.
It is an unfortunate necessity in many places these days. Sad indeed. That is super awesome though that there was a candy maker with fresh candy corn in your childhood trick-or-treat outings!!!
Palmer use to have those peanut butter and chocolate coins in Jack-O-Lantern wrappers. But now they're just plain chocolate. I'd say the old version has been forgotten.

Candy corn and the similar pumpkins come from a time when “sugar” or “molasses” was considered a flavor. I agree that a good place for them is as a decoration or as part of a mix.
As a trick or treater in the 80’s, I remember getting toothbrushes or dental floss, or religious materials like chick tracts, and sometimes even 5 pennies wrapped up in masking tape, and lots of the lousy candy you mentioned…wax lips, smarties, Mary Jane, even those strawberry shaped granny candies.
I knew someone who said it wasn't fall until he had his candy corn and peanuts combo. The most hated candy i can think of is the little rounds of super hard pink gum that my gramma would always include in her trick or treat candy. It was like the gum that was included in baseball card packages that was super sweet and hard to chew. I think she used it like filler so it wasn't too expensive.
