I think we are the point where both these pianos and keyboards sound amazing, but different. I used to feel one was better than the other due to the sounds and functionality being better. We are now at the point (imo) where it comes down to personal preference. I now feel with either of these keyboards, anyone can get the job done as both are very, very good and even if you choose one without knowing crap, you would still be doing damn good.
In the end it is a matter of taste. Both instruments sound good, showing remarcable achievements of the respective manufacturers. The Yamaha is a MODX8 featuring 88 keys GHS keyboard (7 steps dynamically sensitive), whilst the Korg Krome 61 is endowed with semi-weighted 61 keys keyboard with touch dynamics. A better comparison would have included the MODX8 and the Krome88. By chance, I use the Krome61 and I am pleased with it.
Korgs pianos are warmer than the modx. I have a kronos and a modx. Modx is great with guitars and synth sounds, but kronos is also a beast! Both greatly unique in their own way. If you ask me the best way is just buy a modx and a korg. And if you can, grab a Dave smith Prophet. Enjoy
The krome has more than 5 variations of its Steinway German D grand piano sampled sound on its presets, it will definitely sound different to the Modx with different effects on its settings.
I own both of these and Both sound great! No clear winner as both use high quality samples! In this video, the Krome sounds darker and meatier in the mids and the MODX is thinner and more bright.
Great playing. I Do'nt have the MODX but a MOXF8 and a Krome EX6. For me the Yamaha sounds bright and rich but the Korg more intimate. I like intimite :-)) On the MOXF i had to add 3th party piano samples. I also like the warm pianos in my Integra7

I am a critic of the piano sounds of the Korg brand. but in the krome krome you see an improvement and for the price is more than acceptable. The MODX yamaha is the same as the yamaha xs and xf. they are the same sounds that they use in all pianos and they change some effects and DX parameters.
There's actually a huge amount of new sounds from new waveforms not found in the Motif XS or XF that are in the Montage and MODX both. Some are better, some are equivalent, some in my opinion are not better. But, in addition too all the new stuff, the entire Motif XF soundset is also included. What made me not get the Montage and go for the Motif XF instead was the screwed up midi implementation and lack of a sequencer in the Montage/MODX.
Nice playing-style, muzyk ! Very easy to listen to. I lean towards the modx, tho' I've a longer history w Korg. Prob is, I've edited my mox so much over last few years, but my edits are not tranferable to modx

This just simply isn't true. There is no difference in the piano samples used on the 61, 73/76 or 88 note versions of either the Krome or the MODX (especially given that the smaller models still need access to the full keybed range via octave switching and can also still be played via an external 88 note board). The only difference will be that the 88 note hammer action will allow more expression in the play, which could then therefore make it sound more realistic (in the hands of a decent player that is). I have used both the Krome 61 and the MODX6 with an external 88 note hammer action controller, and it adds more dimension yes, but the sample I'm playing is exactly the same as it would be on the 88 model itself.
I've always prefered the smaller footprint of Yamaha because they place the mod wheels on the top left of the keyboard instead of the far left which Korg uses. I didn't like the new higher price point so I'm hoping the new Krome will debut at under $2,000 USD.
not a pianist, not even a keyboard player, a normal human being...not biased to any of them as I have a very little knowledge. but the sound that reached through my headphone from Korg is acutely sharp and crisp, no extra vibration, whereas the sound from MODX is a little harsh as it contains a bit more after-stroke vibration, even I checked that through my software too.
Man, that yamaha sound horrible in comparison to the korg and I'm a Yamaha person. Just way to bright and thin. Of course, once it's eq'd and jas layers and stuff, it'll sound amazing! If u gonna compare pianos u can't have one keyboard an 88 key and the other a synth light weighted.. The 88 weighted obviously gonna sound more expressive... That's just common sense.
He should have controlled both from the same 88 note keybed, that would have been the only way to truly test them. Pretty sure he could have controlled the Krome from the MODX if he'd wanted to with just one Midi cable!
I love korg but I would buy the Yamaha modx6 because I can sample my own sound's, I hate the pitch bend and mod wheel in yamaha I wish they get the joystick it's much easier to Play
It is a good kb for beginners and experienced players, you don’t need a DAW, it has a 16 track sequencer incorporated, and hundreds of instruments in different Banks, this version comes with a piano roll, very useful to edit the recorded notes, similar a DAW. The only you will need are external speakers.
You were comparing 88 hammer keys with a 61 cheap keys. My experience, with the same keyboard but different version hammer keys and 61 keys are already different quality of sound touching.
In my opinion, for acoustic sound, Yamaha is always win. But for Korg, acoustic sound is pretty bad. Korg is pretty good at effects sound such as, pad, synth, and other sound. I recommend Yamaha for acoustic sound performance or recording. And Korg for effects and stuffs, and also recording. I have both... And I think they're pretty good.

Korg is so well sampled. I can hear those dampers and the velvety hammers striking the strings like an acoustic piano, but recorded and produced well.

This just simply isn't true.
Are you using the same sound card with same amount of gain to record these sounds? Sounds to me that the Krome is being favored by a much better DAC!
YES ZOOM H6
I guess Krome performs much better than I expected.
i'm surprise the 88 krome price is little bit higher... maybe due to better key and aluminium finish... both good midrange keyboard
I don't care about that keyboard,I just hear your chord play.
Hi pls upload the same comparison with synth sounds pls!
Gostei mais dos pianos do Krome
comparison should be in all timbre not only piano ........
O Krome dá um Banho se é que meu ouvido musical de anos ainda consegue distinguir o peso do piano virtual;
Yamaha sound was way better. Immersive sound of the best sounding pianos in the world.
should compare between 61 keys simi-weight
SO damn true and I wish more people understood this concept.
KORG ! THE MOST COMPLICATED USER UNFRIENDLY MACHINES !
If u understand the tones. Tone quality is good in Korg
The MODX8 sounds way better in the Australian Summer.
Did you edit the piano preset on the Krome Ex?
No
Thanks
Bought a Krome EX Copper
Krome!!!
