RIP Alan Arkin. (March 26, 1934 - June 29, 2023) Thank you for sharing your wonderful humanity and talent with us all. You broke my heart open with your portrayal of Abby Singer in this heartwrenching 1968 film. You taught me the meaning of compassion through your amazing performance.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's the story of the young girl but also about the deaf mute boarder who came to live at her home. The film is more about Mr. Singer, and how his life affects everone he comes in contact with. They all come to him for help, and when he needs help they don't even notice it. It's very very sad.
RIP Alan Arkin (March 26, 1934 - June 29, 2023), aged 89 And RIP Sondra Locke (May 28, 1944 - November 3, 2018), aged 74 You both will be remembered as legends.
One of my favourite movie ever! I saw it the first time 1969 in Budapest/Hungary at a cinema, since 1987 I have it on VHS-tape in German and a few years ago I got it on DVD original English from South.Korea. I saw it perhaps 20.-25 times.
I’ve never read about a bunch of people with so many ridiculous physical problems all bumping into each other. In fact as I read the plot I had to burst out laughing at how silly it sounded. Mick lost her virginity because her dad is going to be permanently disabled, lol 😂 lol 😂 hahahaha as one ridiculous example. But looking at the movie made it all better.
No, Carson McCullers wrote this a decade before Grace Metalious wrote Peyton Place. Plus both topics of each book are completely different. Google is your friend

He was a great man.
There is no Abby Singer in the book. There is Mick Kelly, and there is John Singer.
Saw this when I was 16. Became a social worker. R.I.P. Alan

First movie I saw Alan Arkin in, and I've been a fan ever since.
Sondra Locke was brilliant in the movie. She's really underrated.
R.I.P. Sondra Locke: "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" was a lovely and poignant movie.

I’m reading the book right now and i’m loving it. The movie seems to be good too.
Thank you for being a reader. I am too!
RIP Sondra Locke
It's a shame he didn't win the academy award for this but at least he won one for something else, he deserved it. Wonderful actor
Powerful movie based on a powerful novel.
Damn good "Southern Gothic" novel, for I've read the book, and need to read it again, one day.
R.I.P Sondra Locke.
I'M *STOKED* TO SEE "OFFICIAL TRAILER"!
Rest in peace Sondra.

@@sclogse1 I can’t remember the name of the movie?
She did it because she was forcing herself to grow up. She was being made to drop out of school to support her family.
Is this spoofing Peyton Place.

@@auboy77 Thank you, google.
I'd like to go look at her party.
Terrible adaptation. But you can't make a movie about a book as brilliant as this. Read the book. Carson would have hated this film.
