I feel this shows the lack of Justice League that DC has had since Dark Crisis (Yet Justice League hasn’t been readable since before Scott Synder’s Run Went Crazy for Death Metal)
I find so strange that both DC and Marvel have all these actual completely evil characters that they are trying to depict in the best light possible (Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Mystique ecc.) and then they have morally grey characters like Amanda Waller or Maxwell Lord and they have to play them as pure evil characters.
I'm not interested in any of these Trinity of Evil characters and the fact that apparently so many people turned on superheroes in a universe where every proper hero has a mind control villain in their rogue's gallery, you have extremely skilled evil technology experts since the Golden Age (like Thinker from Jay Garrick's rogue's gallery) or just straight up shapeshifters like Clayface is simply baffling.
Mark Waid tries to talk about A.I. in a realistic matter forgetting that they live in a universe where Amanda Waller can simply go to any super prison, pick up a random evil genius and build an evil robot version of every DC hero ever that looks extremely similar to the original...why do you need deepfakes when you can just hire Deadshot, force him to wear a fake Batcowl and shoot random citizens like it's nothing?
I'm cool with Amanda Waller. I always liked her character. Absolute Power kind of reminds me of the Project Cadmus story in that Justice League Unlimited show years ago. It involved Amanda Waller having her own team to replace the Justice League.
My only thing is what's DC going to look like once this story is over.

I thought it was pretty solid.I liked how the tension kept steady building up throughout the issue as Amanda Waller progressively unfolded her plans.I liked the feeling of dread, chaos and hopelessness that ensued once all the heros lost their powers ,and we got to see just how far Waller had gone just to halt any fighting chance the heros might have had.The artwork by Dan Mora is great as always

The concept of the story is really silly, but i think that Waid with the help of Dan Mora's amazing art crafted a really cool story, and i felt tension during it, the Amazos look like a real threat.
I am confident for the main book, but i am not so sure for the tie-ins, i guess Green Arrow will be the most important one, because of the possibly double agent thing.

@@garycannon4644 That is just the beggining of the issue, there is so much more than that.
It just feels so odd knowing the big bad for some of these supes is just AI images. It just feels like the type of storyline a bad movie adaptation would have as it just feels so disconnected that these heroes are battling fake images.
I have recently been catching up with Williamsons run on superman and I am loving it so far and wondering what you think about it??
I've enjoyed Williamson's run for the most part, not a fan of what he's done with Lex and the ending of House of Brainiac was kinda weak tho.
@@TheRealComicBookGamer I’ve been having a good time with it as well and I do find the choices with Lex quite odd but I really enjoy seeing some stories where the villains and heroes work together sometimes so this has been a fun read. I wasn’t aware that absolute power was going to be a thing but from all the previews in the issues flashing forward to future stories it wasn’t difficult to tell an event was coming. Just feels underwhelming the way it’s done with AI cause it just feels off to me. Almost like that Steve buscemi meme of him trying to fit in. With waid talking about AI when for superheroes there’s so many other more interesting ways to go about turning the public on supes it does just kinda feel very ehhh. Again just feels like the storyline a bad adaptation would use to prove that superheroes are grounded in reality and it’s very reactionary to how AI is used.
I actually liked the issue. I agree with you on Waller being overplayed but I’m curious as to her motives here. GA, yeah it’s kind of strange but it’s interesting. I’m not a fan of Failsafe either (really both secondary antagonists feel just thrown in because reasons.)
You’re right about Waid sounding like a grumpy old man but at the same time, I do think he makes a fair argument about how much of the internet and communication in general is an echo chamber so I figure that this is pretty plausible in terms of reaction. Curious to see who will lead the powerless heroes and just generally, I was more interested than I thought I would be
While I do thought this story was good mostly because i like mark wade and his writing especially with his work on world finest which is amazing by the way and plus Dan mora artwork is god tier and fantastic, I have sneaking suspicion that my boy Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy is basically screwed and is now a monster which again proves my point more and more that DC should listen to me and deage Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy back to his little 10 year old self and stop doing these garbage with are boy which isn't going to be good but bad in my opinion.
I'll take this over Blood Hunt any day...

Does it explain why Failsafe and Lady Brainy are helping Waller? They are definitely out of her league.
Failsafe (Uber-Batman) has the same goals as Waller and wants to eventually free Gotham in every multiverse. Brainiac queen is being manipulated by waller

Where is Cyborg Vic Stone? Couldn't he just takeover everyone's tv and explain the deepfake deception? This is a very weak plot. It would work perfectly for an Xmen story, where most of society is already waiting for them to fuck up. But the Justice League is on another level.
The deep fake stuff really didn't bother me, other than it felt rushed. It would have been cool if they had seeded the fake videos of heroes being evil in the back of other books kinda how they did Doomsday breaking free before the death of Superman. Maybe even variant covers of heroes doing evil shit the month before Absolute Power came out. I dunno. Anyway, Dan Mora's art is amazing as always. I really liked how he drew Aquaman. The beard and the darker orange scale armor look dope. The story is just fine. Not terrible, not amazing, but just fine. The heroes fighting Amazos feels like a retread of the Metamorpho story arc from World's Finest. Waid is one of my favorite DC writers, so I'm on board, but, maybe a bit underwhelmed by this first issue.

How would you say House of Brainiac is since that is a Superman Story that ties into Absolute Power.
I liked it. Ending was mediocre and I'm not a fan of turning Lex into a good guy (again) and bring his family into it, but other than that I thought House of Brainiac was pretty good.
Is dc absolute power the main earth or a new alternate universe ? I stopped reading after new 52 and I’m trying to get back into dc comics without reading a bunch of history.

AI isn’t evil here, it’s a tool used by Waller
