He’s a friend of a friend. Just before he released this song, Jamey played it for us while we sat drinking beer late night around the backyard firepit. We were floored to say the least.

You definitely need to see the music video!! It’s a powerful one!! I grew up not far from Jamey and we had many mutual friends, so hearing this song brings back a flood of fun memories and emotions. I will never forget the first time he played this for us down at the farm, and then when he finally got the courage to play it on stage, in one of our little hole in the wall bars in town. He was skinny, baby faced and still in the reserves…lord how times have changed lol but he’s still the same ol boy from backwoods Alabama that I met all those many moons ago. He’s such a sweetheart and never let fame go to his head!!

The video brings the meaning home is what it does. And you get it already. I'd watch the video though because his voice 8s much better in it and seems to be deeper even . I love big ,beardy men of music .they seem sexier for some reason.

This one always makes me get all misty eyed. Makes me think of my parents who have both passed now. They lived through the great depression, raised six kids, and would still hold hands when they walked together right up until Dad couldn't walk anymore.

    • @cassandrashelton3690

Beautiful story🖤 I think of my Granny and granddaddy too. They raised ten kids, lost a set of twins, thru the depression and the war, many of their sons served. They all came home to coal country and raised their own kids. Granny and granddaddy went to church and held hands every Sunday until he couldn't walk anymore and finally passed. Granny continued on, always said she was gonna outlive him, in years, and she sure did. By one year I do believe. Sadly she passed of dementia so the last years were not the best. But boy do I miss them both and their old home🥰 and all those photos.

There is no other artist like Jamey Johnson. He is true country and doesn’t cater to what radio stations will play. He said he has a deal with them. They don’t play his music, and he doesn’t listen to theirs. He’s a former Marine that doesn’t put up with anyone’s disrespect. I’ve seen him 5 times in concert. He’s the best.

This is the story of my Grandfather's life. He grew up on a farm during the great depression. He was a Marine during WWII and met my Grandmother, also a Marine, and loved her until he passed. There is a picture of them in front of their house and this song always reminds me of it in the last verse.

I really enjoyed your reaction to this wonderful hit. I gotta say, growing up in the south and hearing this song as it was released, I never thought about how country he sings the lyrics "in colerrr" because that is how most of my friends and family speak on a daily basis. So having you point it out is the first time I've ever noticed how country the phrase sounds around here. I love your content and cannot stop watching your genuine heartfelt reactions to music.

My Grandfather, Dad's Dad, grew up during the Great Depression. He told me he and his brothers would take buckets down to the train tracks and wait for the trains at the tipple to pull out loaded. After the trans would pass, they'd pick up whatever pieces of coal they could find that fell from the train to fill their buckets. That's how they heated their house.

This song makes me very emotional because I lost my grandmother and she went through the great depression and ww2 and never complained or had anything bad to say about these times I used to love sitting with my grandparents and listening to them tell about the times they had When people still loved each other and stuck by each other through the good times and the bad times and Marriage meant so much more than it does now I don’t know why people even say marriage vows anymore because they don’t mean the same as they used to When you fall in love with someone it’s supposed to be for life Not just the here and now My grandparents was married for 65 or 70 years and my parents stayed married for the same amount of time I wish so much that people cared about each other and loved each other like they used to It’s really hard to find true love anymore So if you have a good partner and they treat you right You better get down on your knees and thank God Because this is a thing of the past I have lost out on love so many times No body stays together anymore It brakes my heart that people don’t have love for each other anymore I fell in love with a girl when I was 19 and she was 17 and we had so much fun and 8 years went by and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this woman I have not seen her in 30 years and there’s not a day that goes by That she doesn’t run through my mind I should have known that she was not serious about me after she got pregnant and wanted to get a abortion But I was so in love with this girl I even let her talk me into paying for this because I don’t believe in this I think when you Choose to do this You are taking a life that never had a chance to live But I stuck by her and I told her that I loved her but I would not do this again Some how she sucked me back in and got pregnant two more times and she choose to do the same thing two more times and after this I couldn’t see how I could go on knowing that I had three children that I never got to see or hug and tell them how much I loved them If I make to heaven I hope so much they will except me and know I didn’t want this to happen And I have been a single man ever since Because I can’t take all the pain and the hurt people do to each other these days I still love women but I threw the key to my heart away a long time ago Because I feel like I was robbed of my children and I could not go through that hurt anymore So I chose to end my relationship with this woman that I loved so much it was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life I only hope our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Will forgive me and let me be the father in heaven that I never got to be here on earth I am 53 about to be 54 in a few weeks and I would have give my life for this woman and I still think about her every day I only hope Jesus will for forgive me Sorry for saying this But my mother is 81 and I lost my pop about two years ago and they still don’t know that I have three children in heaven Well my pop does because he has already gone to be with the lord I am so sorry pop for not telling you and mama You know I could not have asked the lord for a better mother and father than the ones he gave me I know they wondered why I never had a family But I did they just went to live in heaven before I did Or hope I get to go if the good lord will forgive me I tried really hard to talk her into not doing this But I couldn’t convince her or make her see that I did not want her to choose to do what she did I loved her with all of my heart and I let her talk me into paying for the first one But I told her that I would not do that again and I didn’t and this is what led me and her going our separate ways But there’s not a day in my life that goes by that I don’t think about her

A lot of people try to react to this and just seem to think it's just about the difference between B & W and color pics. Not many get that it is also about the difference between seeing pics and having lived it. Oh and the video for this song is pretty cool. This is one of the few things in the world that makes me just start bawling like a baby. I have a picture of my grandfather when he was about 10 standing there with his brother, about 2 years older than him in dusty overalls. This would have been about 1935 in west-central Illinois and it fits what Jamey is singing about. It makes me realize when you grow up with your grandparents as a kid you are so self-centered you don't really think about what their life was like. You just let them worry about you. Or maybe that was just my dumba$$. So many things I wish I'd asked them before they died. Grandpa lived to 83 and Uncle Hershel made it to 97 or 98, I believe.

I was beyond blessed to get to spend a ton of time with both my Grandfathers... I got to hear so many stories of both their lives.. When my Grandparents passed, a good majority of the family focused on what they get.. What possessions to they inherit.. How much money do they get... Go ahead and have it all.. I got the most valuable thing.. Their time... Their knowledge... Their true story...

Jamey’s first song “The Dollar” is another great storytelling song.
Jamey is that songwriter like Chris Stapleton with a crazy amount of hits that he wrote.

You should definitely see the video. I can't think of any bad songs from him, but The Dollar (I believe his first hit) and The High Cost of Living (definitely one of his most powerful) are definitely worthy of channel reactions.
