Bluefish are good eating skin and all of course scale them so many choose to label certain fish trash fish when they are really not
I agree with you they are good eating and I would rather fish for Bluefish over Striped bass, its funny how there are people out there who claim to like seafood but there are levels to how much they like it in terms of how fishy it tastes.. Lol
@@monstermashed6266 Lol that's exactly right🤣
They are good cooked or sushi but the key is to eat them fresh. They produce an enzyme that degrades the meat quickly after they die that makes them taste off. Cooking them does not destroy the enzyme so no leftovers!
Elias, another great day of catching! I too was down then and got into a school of those blues in the surf moving up the island chasing those bait fish. They would follow the bait into the surf onto the sand and beach themselves! Never seen THAT before. They tore up my Hopkins treble hooks (got to get some of those you mentioned) and of course my 30# braid. I don't see the link to your equipment on this clip - I need some heavier gear for those blues in my kayak. I've got to backfill my tackle box after that run!
PS - cooked some that were delicious. Skinless filets, S&P, dredged and lightly coated with breadcrumbs, squeeze of lemon juice and sprinkled with parmesan cheese. Baked in foil for about 20 minutes. Absolutely delicious like 8.5-9!
Fun stuff, Elias!! Thanks for taking us along with you!!
We camped out there this weekend and caught 15 large bluefish on Saturday. The waters were calm low tide. We were at the Ferry loading store and heard someone place an order for spoons at the island and we knew what was biting. We are from Southport and follow all your videos.
Too much fun!! Looks like you had a blast.
This is more like it.. brother. Big blues are the balance between sport and teethy danger haha 😊
That looks like a blast man! Thanks
More than wonderful video. I hope you enjoy fishing ❤️
Loving the longer vids rexently
Any size bluefish is pretty good when smoked. Worth a try. I use hickory up here in NJ. Don't forget the cheeks!
Awesome vid Elias. Since you rarely do top water bites this was a rare treat. Keep them coming
Nice video and it looked good to eat! I love to make fish cakes with Bluefish and they always taste great! Maybe try it next time!
When I was 12 fishing under Montauk lighthouse fishing from the surf I saw a guy try to unhook a 10/12lb bluefish that basically nearly swallowed a pencil popper that had two treble hooks. That guy stuck his hand in its mouth and lost his thumb. He was standing on a rock the size of a mini van and the whole thing was red.
I’ve been catching those small blues here around Nag’s Head, and they make killer sushi!
yup! Delicious
Cool stuff man. The gator blues are running on the south shore of Long Island right now too.
Dude the blues have been THICKKK the last couple weeks, cool eats and fun fights for clients
Bluefish like that’ll take a finger off….great video!
Wonderful video! One warning however as I was bitten by a snapper blue 75, yes seventy five years ago, and I can still show you the scar on my left hand!
Gotta love the Blue Blitz. By the time those choppers reach me in NH, they will be twice as heavy. Send em on, Elias!
Awesome video as usual!
Great video! Enjoy it when you cook and share it with your wife!
Wow great blue bite. We use to catch them blitzing off of the beach back in the day.
The sound is a great place to fish….
Very cool that you grilled the fish. I always heard that they were to fishy tasting, high oil content.
Love the adventure, thanks for bringing us along.
Cheers
Bluefish are both fun to catch and eat
The little 3 and 4 pounders are less oily which i prefer.
Totally agree. Growing up in the city and then the island nothing beats the savegery of bluefish pound for pound. Loved this vid. Pirranah of the eastern seabourd. Thx. Great vid
I’ve been out to Ocracoke for two blue blitzes, it’s a super fun time! It was insane at Mercer’s two weeks ago, couldn’t score a Spanish through that mess of blues lol
Hi, Meg! Good to see ya! That boy love you, he gave you the cheek meat!
Nothing like a big blue even if they get no respect. Some giants pushed up the neuse this year. Been a learning curve, making wire leaders, having o rings pulled, but they've been fun
No respect - the recent lean years changed my outlook on them a bunch.
You're so good at catching them. I even enjoyed the delicious food.
Love the Blue Fish bite like this. This is a similar bite that I travel up to New York towards the end of May to catch them in the Peconic Bay on Long Island. Unfortunately I was there too early this year so I will miss the bite. I appreciate your video to make me feel like I won't miss it.
You still have all your fingers, that's a good day.
Enjoyable video Sir. Lots of action, cleaning/filet techniques, cooking,,, Excellent way to spend my evening, Thanks, looks yummy
I am assuming this is the Cape seeing that lighthouse behind you. We have a house on Harker's Island and always love going out there.
Great segment Elias.
Hey Elias do you have a specific rod holder you recommend for trolling from the yak?
Getting in your core workout from those Blues!
It's interesting how different our Blues are to yours (we call them Tailor). Ours are generally smaller and the big ones hardly ever hit lures when the sun is on the water - especially not in the shallows. We target the big ones in the surf or off rocky headlands in the pre-dawn.
a lot of anglers spend their whole lives trying to catch a blue fish/tailor that big here in australia and fail . awesome session .
Hope you enjoyed your time at the Crystal Coast!!
Tons of big blues around Kure through Topsail this week
You look like you having too much fun!!!
Glad I'm not the only one that's been on Bluefish. I was catching them all day up in the creeks in Cherry Grove, SC. Definitely didn't have the shark problem though.
Big ones there too? That’s pretty cool don’t hear of the choppers too often inshore in SC.
@@EliasVFishing I think it's just because all the creeks in Cherry Grove are right next to an inlet. They weren't as big as what's in OBX right now. Biggest of the day was 24" but all of the ones I caught were 19" an over. They were all mixed in with trout at creek mouths and deep spots farther back.
My knees hurt watching you pedal lol
Thanks for sharing
I don't always watch RUclips, but when I do, I prefer EliasVFishing😂
I've caught plenty of Albies right there Oct teenth, great fun
Brings back memories from the 80's along the Rhode Island shore and inner bay areas!!
pike have that anti-coagulant too
Awesome. Brings back memories of being on the Long Island sound as a kid. I love eating bluefish and I think it’s the old saying that there is no bad fish only bad chefs.
What a wonderful video , thanks.
Hawaiian Tropic Dry Oil Sunblock..100% effective against no seeums and other biting flies. Only caveat is the sunblock is waterproof but the insect repellant is not. If you get very wet you need to reapply. Always in my fishing bag. Amazing how many people I have saved from misery with this stuff.
Awesome video as always dude 🤙🤙🤙 what water shoes you rockin ?? I'm looking for some 🤙🤙🤙
So crazy. I'm pretty sure the others attack them right when they get hooked.
lots of makos with the choppers too (when they are schooling in deeper water) - be prepared and know the regs cause you want some mako steaks. these fish fight incredibly - you definitely need and want the first aid kit! good change of pace - just some incredible drag smoking fishing! the motor really helped on this one and good followup catch and cook too - grilling is perfect method #beasts #googan hospital visit #sharky's machine
I’m always thinking , wouldnt it be nice to be salt water fishing and then I saw a shark rise up behind you and thought , “ I ll stick to Crappie”😂😂
Elias… at 5:37 that thing comes so close to taking a chunk out of your face and you don’t even flinch! 😂
You are terrifying me throwing cranks on a big spastic fish like those. I had a med sized trout last week hooked up on upper trebles and the sucker shook and hooked the palm of my hand. Really hard to hold the fish still and pull the hook w the other, accidents happen and I fish alone 95% of the time. Good job as always Elias.
More out in the 25 to 40 ft mad schools coming through. King fish everything
"An Ode to Bluefish" as a Cape Cod rat, Amen to that
If this is cape lookout. are you able to bring your kayak onto the ferry?
Come back to Florida
Wondering of the brand, of that folding measuring board that you always use. Thanks!
This made me miss home
What was, "and some of this" , you put in the mix ?
Capers
@@EliasVFishing thank you man, your my favorite..
Looking forward to this one! Looks like a solid class of bluefish this spring on the east coast. Getting good numbers/sizes of fish up in the Virginia Beach area for the first time in several years it seems like.
When you hook into one of these alligators you will never forget the fight these fish give.
Sup ! You that's a 10 that's exactly what you want to do with a bluefish
That is one of my old gigging locations. May brings schools of young sharks. So thick they will jump out onto the bank. Drove my lab crazy. The no see-ums are noting but mouth and butt hole. Don’t get choked on them.
Elias, what leader knot do you tie? Those blues were awesome! My adrenaline was pumping on every cast, shew!
Uni or a loop knot
Fishing topwater from a kayak, instead of "traditional" NE methods, has an extra benefit: Since there's no chum slick, big Blues don't puke it all over when brought aboard.
What part of Obx you fished ?
Those were huge alligators you were catching, what is the State regulation for fish per angler? Peace.
3 per person.
Your Carolina salmon almost has more followers than me :)
Didn’t you catch a bunch of choppers when you first moved there?
Yes it was an incredible run in 2018 - this year has a lot of fish too!
Which lighthouse is that?
what mic do you use for the gopro?
None
Your Night Ranger rod, is it the 1 to 4 oz one or the 1/2 to 1.5 oz rod?
This one is 1/2 oz to 1.5
@@EliasVFishing
Ok, good to know. Thanks
mini tarpon
I hate sharks but that was cool to see him having fun and teasing you a little bit
HAHAHAHAA I KNOW THAT SPOT WELL!!!! AWESOME MAN!
I see bodie island lighthouse
Smoke the bluefish, they come out great
did you take the kayak on the ferry?
Nope pedaled over - maybe next time if I have to fight tide!
@@EliasVFishing Damn dude that pedal assist is no joke.
I mean your are obviously in good shape. but damn that's a haul.
if you were ever in that area on a Saturday and you would let me come on the channel and fish I would. In between Shackleford and Beaufort there are miles of sandbars and id like to try that Pompano drift once. there's a ton of sandbars.
@@flipmoto1Maybe in the summer I might be able to wiggle another drift. Think you are on the money to try for those guys.
you mentioned carolina salmon.. there is actually carolina Kokanee salmon.. might make for some good content .. but its a haul from the coast to Nantahala Lake
You are a mad man for bringing them in the yak so quickly. Although with the taxman hanging around you don't have much choice. also you cannot reel a topwater too quickly for a big blue fish. i only slow down for the smaller ones.
YES, I also use barbless hooks for easier removal of the treble hooks. On a Kayak you have to be careful or you will lose your third leg.
21:15 Luckiest Bluefish in NC
Yucko.
anchova
Catching 10.0. Eating 0.00000000000001
Bluefish is only good if you trim all the red meat from under the skin. The red contains the fat/ oils which melts when you cook and contaminates everything with a very fishy (think anchovies) flavor. Bluefish should always be bled and kept on ice..unless you like mush and anchovy flavor.
First (Real Comment). Suck it, Bots!
Another sheep on artificial!
Anti-coagulant
Yall need to be Real… it’ll be so much believable… Sorry….
