Not sure that I would be putting braid on a very cheap rod/reel as it will cut into the guides unless they're suitable for it. Also braid is harder to tie for knots etc and prone to air knots for those that aren't used to it.
Mono isn't as good in some ways but much more forgiving imo.
Here's hoping that we don't have to fish for our survival as it will be a hard task imo.
I have lots of gear, a bit of experience and a 4wd to get me places and a feed certainly isn't guaranteed when I go out.
Hobo fishing kits are interesting though.

You've reminded me that I need to put mono on the spare spool, going to try and catch something later 👍

Nice little set up you've got there, I've got a similar set up but mine is slightly bigger, got it from Lidl for a tenner but swapped the reel out as it wouldn't last,i use braid and its brilliant for spinning and float fishing, did you put a wire trace in your kit ?,i just need to get out a bit more and try different baits next, disgorger is a must and a multitool with pliers for pike and bass and wrasse,as for the survival fishing kit it needs to have three metal eyes to put onto a branch or pole as you know so you can cast it out further, that's just a kids kite handle that they've used, ive got a hobo reel fishing kit that I got from a wood turner made for me and its ok for still ponds.

As a non fisher person (but wanting to learn), would a plastic bag be a good add to your kit for getting your fish home ?
Let's see if this post gets deleted - last video it did 😞
