If you're using thinner fabric, use polyester fabric lining(with self adhesive) to stick it first to the fabric, then glue it to the leather. This prevents the glue seeping through the fabric.

Been hoping for this one for a while, I've done my own fabric lining in wallets but haven't been as happy as I could with them. Thanks so much for having such great content and useful tips!!

I use silk fabric to line wallets all the time but would never glue the whole of the fabric down, just the edges are glued with a 2mm gap before the edge of the leather so it doesn't interfere with edge slicking.

I used contact cement with a cotton fabric. It did seep through, I used a rubber abrasive cleaner to remove the seeped cement. It got rid of the residue.

Thank you so much for all your great videos. If you can't find waxed canvas, doesn't the glue go right through the lining?

I've used many types of lining in wallets and the fabric ones never last. I think it has to do with stress and moisture they collect and are unable to breath off. Considering that most people keep wallets in their pockets, this rings true. Think of it kinda like a sport footwear. Leather on the outside and fabric inside. How quickly does the fabric soften and degrade? Pretty quickly. These days I really only use thinly split goatskin for lining as it's really soft, flexes well and lasts a long time.

Yeah goatskin and pigskin are great for lining leathers.

      Q. When did the English-speaking portion of the world forget about the word "breathe"? I see that mistake ALL THE TIME on reddit. Was there some global memo that I missed where the use of the word "breathe" was outlawed???

I find turned leather edges over your lining works well.

Thank you. I suspect for non waxed fabric, care must be taken to ensure no bleed through. I think I'll try my luck with heat and bond for my smaller clutch purse.

Have you experimented with RFID blocking sheets (perhaps similar to whay Tandy sells) between the leather and the liner? Have you found interest with your customers for RFID blocking tech?
Thanks for all of the wonderful information you share with us. You have been very helpful in my ability to use leather. I realky appreciate all of your videos.

The RFID wallet thing is unnecessary. A data defense expert said in the last 25 years he hasn’t seen an actual crime that would have been prevented by an RFID wallet, and the cases where an RFID crime happened was when the card was used at a terminal like at a gas station. Plus these days the way data is handled by RFID isn’t much use to criminals . The safest way to pay is by using an electronic wallet like Apple Pay, google pay, Samsung pay etc because each transaction is using a token ID and not sending out actual card numbers.

I placed 5 orders with Buckleguy because they sponsor you. 4 of those orders arrived with half the parts I ordered or got an email days later saying they don't have something in stock followed by an email saying that part is in stock (it's not) leading to more confusion. The team there seemed not to take things seriously. Hope they treat sponsored artists better than paying customers.

Another trick you can do is to leave the top edge with more than you need and skive the edge and roll that over the top of the fabric.

It's super easy to wax your own canvas and it's way cheaper. I used to make waxed canvas interiors for leather wallets. Looks cool but it was a bummer when the waxed canvas wore out just when the leather was getting great patina.

Can you wax your own fabric? I learned how to make beeswax tissues in the summer, and I was wondering if that would work? We ironed beeswax into a cloth over baking paper.

I always avoid Barge like the plague because of how toxic it is for leatherworkers. As a former RN who cared for many Oncology patients, I recommend that all of us do the same.
