Man I love the 90s. Very little out there compares to this! I was in a band with my brother and my cousins. We loved this song because of the many chord changes and progressions.
John Rzeznik wrote this about his childhood. He sings it to his sisters who raised him; both his parents died when he was young and his father was an alcoholic. The line, "We're grown up orphans who never knew their names" reflects his past. (thanks, Caitlin - Yardley, PA, Would be happy, if you check out my cover of the song.
100% Epic.....just saw them performing live (for my 3rd time) 3 nights ago and the GGD's are as totally amazing as ever. My total fave band. No one writes better songs, performs better, and damn, they look hot, too! They are the total package!
One of the best songs ever written. "Don't it make you sad to know that life is more than who we are?" is one of the best lines ever fabricated. I've seen these guys live 3 times and absolutely respect the hell out of them. If anyone gets a chance, I have covered this song, and would love to hear some constructive criticism of it.
And even though the moment passed me by I still can't turn away... Scars are souvenirs you never lose, the past is never far.. I think about you all the time, but I don't need the same, it's lonely where you are...
I'd be honored if some true Goo's fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal cover of their first big hit NAME on my channel. Real live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and peace out.
Me too at the time they didn't seem better but yea,,,,they were we opened. Up for them for three straight months after a boy named goo was released it was fuck#!$ amazing to see the crowds go from 200 to selling out 5,000 6,000 seater s altho we didn't get any more money and got cut down from 45 mins to 30 minutes meh more time to polish my drum kit...ok ok..i just lied to you I never touched my drum kit before or after a show some One else dud that I went to the bus then to a club with those guys...we still talk but however our studio time got pushed back for our album so we signed on for a month in Canada name had just gone number one there so me in my infinite wisdom decided we should open our show in honor of our friends number one song in the great white way.....well they thought it was crazy and I sang it and it was the first time they ever heard me sing their manager however did not the next day our gear sent back to South Carolina on a plane us 6 4 in the band two crew bussed it back to the palmetto state from freaking Vancouver all the way good God my ass was tired of sitting lol
Did a gig recently and I was sitting on a spinny chair for a bit. This video came to my mind when I was playing and started spinning around. How I love a bit of the Goo Goo :D
happy dad's day-- love your song- remember...you always belong to someone...you are never alone in a world full of love & people...SMILE:) Loved your TN concert ...it was a blast! Love you z...
I think it is so awesome that we have something like youtube to see these awesome performances that we may never get the chance to see. Cause I live in Tx and was 10 when they did this performance. Anyway just felt the need to say that :)
Well, this song was originally recorded in 1995, so Johnny was 29 since he was born in late 1965. So 1996 and his being 30 is about right for me, just looks really young, good on 'im. I actually think he's gotten better looking as he's gotten older. I'm a straight guy, just jealous. ;)
john was a major influence on my acoustics. ive written a few songs in his open tunings. wish i could sit and play with this guy. almost as bad as i wish i could sit and play with dave mustaine from megadeth
the tuning allows you to do that. the bass note comes from the top string (using your thumb) and you can highlight the chord with high notes from the bottom strings
If you're referring to Johnny, I've seen that technique before. My brother & cousins & I used to be in a band. My cousin Jack played rythm & acoustic guitar. He used that technique too. I played bass- four & five string electric and four string acoustic. I'd use a technique similar to the bass player's on occasion, although I used more of a percussive technique as well.
a suggestion of two groups Silversun pickups and #2 Great Norther. I think you will like a lot. No I am not a promotor just a music fan Long live John Rzeznik !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@HispanicPenguin Yeah I noticed that too =P Awesome! And agree they make awesome music and so full of emotions ^_^ Theres two guys I think look like Mr.Cobain and that Mr.Rzeznik here and then there's Jay Smith =P Best part Jay sounds like Cobain too, lol! AWESOME SONG-ONG-ONG!

Goo Goo Dolls are a really great band. When you hear them you understand the words and you relate to them.

thanks for adding this it is so great when people add older video of them! The quality of this video is great for being a '96 video.
