It's that time of year again, the float-flying season is nearing an end in Canada. That means another grass landing, this time on a field of clover. Check it out.
Right on the numbers if they were there. What great video. Lots of moisture in the clover for a good runout, no brakes required. I love the transport dolly. That’s awesome.
Excuse this, if I'm repeating (I didn't read all the comments). The thing that impressed me the most, is the fact that he touched down LESS THAN A FLOAT LENGTH from the beginning of the clover! Boys and Girls, you've witnessed a real show of skill here.
Awesome video! Didn't know you could land a float-plane on grass (clover in this case) and not damage the floats. That's a neat operation you showed there.
Great Video ! I have never commented on videos. Having come from an audio and videography background I must say...that your cinematography is exceptional and the editing is well placed....Thank you. I'm also a private pilot and so enjoyed watching your plane.
Thanks for your comment, coming from someone with your experience that means a lot. I am certainly an amateur cinematographer. I have learned a lot but have a lot to learn. Cheers!
Used to enjoy watching Beavers and Otters landing on the infield area at Uplands on the grass, early autumn mornings in preparation for chnge over to wheels/skiis before heading back north. Very cool.
That’s was a great video! Sound of the airplane came through beautifully through a pleasant song. The piloting was superb and the camera angles were great. New viewer and definitely going to subscribe.
Nice job, great looking paint scheme. My dad was a bush pilot he would also land on grass as well as snow right at Twitchles airport in Auburn Maine to remove the floats and switch to skis. Thanks enjoyed watching and super video by the way.
Well that touch down couldn't have been more on the money if you'd have asked for it. Judged to perfection. Great little set up you have there...... not at all jealous.
I landed an Otter 4 times today and it wasn’t nearly as smooth as that. You can tell a lot about a man’s wood pile. Oh. Was not expecting a track mini loader for a dolly vehicle. Very slick.
Nicely done all the way around. You obviously take good care of your equipment and yourself. Your video technical quality was top notch, the content was intriguing and you nailed the landing.
Thank you RUclips algo. Liked and subbed. Great colour scheme. I love commenting on Canadian channels. I don't have to modify my spelling. Not like with our neighbour to the south. I know I don't have to modify my spelling, I just do it as a favour. I'll stop now. I believe the lift off shot looking back at the plane was with a long handle 360 camera mounted on the float. Don't know how you get the camera to pan. I've been seeing some tremendous shots in other videos, but this shot was AWESOME! Sometimes getting old sucks, and sometimes it just means you have had time to get the best toys. Not that you're old. Lol. As a 62 year old Canadian from the B.C. Rockies.
Hey, thanks for your kind words fellow Canadian, I’m really glad you enjoyed it. The 360 cam is on a selfie stick mounted on the strut, you can see it in the video. The panning is a cool feature in the Insta360 software. Cheers
Hey, thanks for your comment. I am curious because of the 100+ comments there is a handful that don't like music. What is it about music in videos that you don't like?
@@flyingdundee43 Pretty straightforward. Fundamental to video in general, and RUclips in particular, is capturing some aspect of the world (universe) and allowing vicarious experience. In your case, for example, the sound of your beautiful aircraft in flight, and expertly piloted by you, include sound as part of the experience, were we actually present, and an added music soundtrack interferes with that experience. An analogy might be how two or more people traveling in a car, can only rarely agree on what music to play, so best to just not play any. There are some videos where the visual is so compelling, I just mute the sound to prevent that annoyance. Most of the time, where there is added music, not worth watching.
Nice you got your cat setup with the picker, i was beginning to think to many other pilots spent to much on their planes and no support equip! Nice to see a fellow Canadian pilot with same equipment! Time for winter flying!
Masterful landing. I was hoping to see the next video of you taking off from the clover with the floaters on, but i see that you took it there for a wheel changeover 😅
As a boy I worked at an old ww2 Canadian local airport around about 1953 and they regularly landed float planes on the grass beside the paved runway. Including Sterman’s . As I recall not all pilots would be qualified to do it. The more exciting part was when they used a dolly for takeoff and did that thing go after they lifted off. In many cases I think the EDO floats were worth more than the aircraft.
@@flyingdundee43 I don’t recall see a beaver or Norseman . J3s equipped to crop dust we’re very scary even to youngster as I was . We did have an avenger we climbed around being prepped for forest crop dusting. We also had a j3 duster that caught its vertical stabilizer flying under hydro power lines crop dusting. We all were in love with the mooymite and an aerocoupe. I got my pilots licence in 1969 and the Canadian government paid part of every pilots cost to get certified.❤️👨🏻🎨
I watched a "mowed grass field, Maule- w/ fiber form floats.... launch from 2?plywood 4x8 sheets, towed by a pick-up truck at Maule field, Napolean, Michigan. hi Brian. Many many great memories+
I lived in Syracuse, NY for a couple of years. We would have a couple or so float planes land on the grass for winter storage and maintenance work. My biggest regret in flying was not getting checked out in the flying club's J-3 that had ski's installed for the winter. Only drawback... you were not allowed to land on the frozen lakes!!
I would think those floats work ok on snow also? Or you do need special floats for using on snow and water? I have seen videos of snow takeoff with floats.
I have taken off from snow on floats but the airplane is not very maneuverable on the ground and ice chunks can damage the floats. We use skis in the winter. Here’s how:ruclips.net/video/JPblZeVX3Zg/видео.htmlsi=c2enBs0xkQQ2kEAO
A guy that flew canoe trippers way back had me weld his worn skids because of the abrasion sliding on beach. Clover on the flat would be less wear I guess.
Right on the numbers if they were there. What great video. Lots of moisture in the clover for a good runout, no brakes required. I love the transport dolly. That’s awesome.
Thanks for watching.
That man knows his airplane. He dropped it on a dime!
Thanks
Aeroplane.
He loves this plane so much he refuses to let himself drop the ball.

Thanks, you are too kind....I get lucky sometimes :)
Awesome video! Didn't know you could land a float-plane on grass (clover in this case) and not damage the floats. That's a neat operation you showed there.
Hey thanks, I appreciate your comment
That’s some great flying. This guy knows his plane.
A plane on floats just has adventure written all over it!
Picture PERFECT landing . A pleasure to watch .
Hey, thanks!
Some airplanes just look right.
The Cub just looks perfect.👌👍
Thanks👍
I love your colours - oxblood and cream. classic. Nice landing.
Beautiful Super Cub. Some of my most fond memories are flying a J 3 cub. Thank you for sharing your podcasts.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.
What a beautiful setup you’ve got there!👍🤩

I for one could do without the music.....
@@RetiredPilot thanks for your comment, if you go on RUclips and search “where’s my volume button” you can turn off the music:)
I'm 85 years 0ld & that is a first for me. Just goes to show you are never too old to learn. Thank you!
Dear Connie, thank you for your comment, you made my day. So glad you enjoyed it.

Fantastic! I wish I had a seaplane and those wonderful facilities!
Nice landing, just on the spot!
I’m jealous of the contraption used to haul the plane to the hangar!
Who needs wheels? Thanks for the music too!
What a beautiful aircraft. 👍
Beautiful paint scheme on a beautiful airplane!
A piece of cake for a talented pilot!
that was some close flying between the trees.nice landing.awsome flying.
Nice landing and beautiful plane
Beautiful aircraft!
i must say that is one beautiful Super Cub (presumably). Great flying and wonderful video. A joy to watch.
Thanks, The aircraft is a North Star kit plane modeled after the Super Cub; with a wider cockpit, larger flaps and ailerons and other mods.
Great vid and very good points of Views.you can go every where you want with this kind of plane and with such a good pilot !
That’s was a great video! Sound of the airplane came through beautifully through a pleasant song. The piloting was superb and the camera angles were great. New viewer and definitely going to subscribe.
Glad you liked it, thanks for your kind comment
Looks like it just flew out of my old Cox U-control box - Love It!
Love the CUB ! (Learned to fly on one) Beautiful airfield ! Very nice landing, Captain ! Welcome home.
I did too, you can't beat a Cub for learning. Thanks for your comment.
From Leith, Edinburgh, I enjoyed your choice of music ! And sharing your wee adventure.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks. PS: Love Scotland
Buttery smooth. If you ever decide to puddle jump down to Puslinch lake, come say hi! I'll be on the dredging barge.
Will keep that in mind. I’ve flown into your lake years ago. Thanks for the comment

Oh wow, I never realized a floatplane could be landed on clover. Very nice video, good engine sounds and music too.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks.
Excellent !! 😎
And….that’s how it’s done. Great video and flying 👍
Thanks, much appreciated
Incredible!
Neat! Never new that could be done.
You nailed it partner. Great vid.

REALLY A GREAT VIDEO ENJOYED IT
What a great video! The music sets it off, too! Is there anything better than the freedom of float flying? Thanks for sharing.
I couldn’t agree more, thanks for your kind words.

Great job! Had 3 float planes over the years.. did skis and wheels but didn't land on grass. Good job ..
Hey, thanks for your kind comment, wheels, ski's and floats, nice. Glad you enjoyed it
Very neat! I've always wanted to do that with mine, but I don't have a fancy hydraulic trailer like that to move it afterwards!
Great music
Brilliant 👍
Pretty dang cool 😎!
Well done. 👍👍👍

Just beautiful. And while I disapprove of music in most videos, “500 Miles” somehow works for this one.

Some of these planes have retractable wheels at the bottom or alongside their floats.?

Nice!
Maravilloso,increíble,bravo
Perfect landing on his floats with no problem
Thanks mate, appreciate the comment!
